Sorry for the dumb question...

Sorry for the dumb question but I've never used two hard drives on a mac. On my second installed hard drive on my new Mac Pro, I can not create a new folder (the option is greyed out). What do I do?

Try this:
Right click (or ctrl-click) and select "Get Info"
On the bottom, under "Ownership & Permissions", make sure that the pull down menu next to "You can" says "Read & Write".
Under details, you can make your username the owner of the disk, with the same access.
You can also click the "Ignore ownership on this volume" if you don't want any of those types of permissions.

  • Sorry for the dumb question - connecting to external monitor

Ok, so I have a MacBook Pro 15". I want to connect it to my 23" HP L335 LCD monitor (which I believe has VGA and DVI-I connections). I'm generally pretty tech saavy but I keep seeing DVI-D vs. DVI-I and I know DVI is better than VGA but I never see DVI-I mentioned in the cables to connect my MBP to the monitor (I'm also not sure which port is on this... DisplayPort or MiniPort or whatever). If someone could let me know what it is I'm looking for that would be great!

Which model of MBP do you have, rtr12rtr?
If it is one of the "unibody" models, sold since late 2008, it will have a "mini Display Port", and you will need a "mini-display Port adaptor to DVI adaptor" to connect it to a Single Link DVI-D cable that connects with your display. (one usually comes with your display, so check the packaging if you haven't noticed one - the link is just for illustrative purposes - I know nothing about the quality of that particular brand).
You won't need a DVI-I plug on the display end, as it just has a few extra pins to receive an analog signal. You will be sending only digital signals from the MBP so it won't miss the analog pins. The Apple MDS to DVI Adaptor only has holes for a DVI-D cable, so a DVD-I plug won't fit at that end. See http://www.datapro.net/techinfo/dvi_info.html#Page06 for a good illustration of the different DVI plugs.
If it is one of the "pre-unibody" models, dating from before October 2008, then you won't need an adaptor at all as the computer has a regular DVI-I port. Just use the same DVI-D to DVI-D cable that you would use to connect to the adaptor in the later models. (A DVI-I cable would work just as well in this situations, as the earlier MBPs have a DVI-I socket, which can accomodate the extra analog pins, but it won't make any difference to the picture)
    Cheers

  • I can not export photos onto DVD. After I click export, close iPhoto, click Finder, At this point I can't find the file to burn. (copy to be used on Windows) Sorry for the lame question....new to mac

I can not export photos onto DVD. After I click export, close iPhoto, click Finder, At this point I can't find the file to burn. (copy to be used on Windows) Sorry for the lame question....new to mac

So it sounds like you are trying to burn a DVD with photos on it so the photos can be either transferred to or displayed on a Windows PC, is that correct?
For the purposes of this I am going to assume you are using iPhoto '11.
Gather the photos you want to burn to DVD in one album in iPhoto. This is not absolutely necessary but it sure makes things easier for me.
Select that album, then go to the File menu and select Export...
In the dialog that shows up, select the File Export tab. Select the setting you want to use for export. Click the Export button.
Another dialog will show up. Set the location to Desktop and click the New Folder button. Name the folder something nice and descriptive and click the Create button.
Click the OK button. Quit iPhoto as the rest of this work will be done in the Finder.
You will now have a folder on your desktop with that nice descriptive name. Find it and select it. Go to the File menu and from it select Burn "Descriptive folder name" to Disc...
Insert a blank DVD when prompted.
Let the finder complete the work and eject the disc afterwards.
    That's it. Best of luck.

  • How to delete and pull up empty region - Sorry for the newbie question

    Hi,
I know Avid and Final Cut Pro and both allow me to mark an empty region and delete it. This closes the gap of the empty region and then pulls the two clips together.
Can I do this in Garage Band. I feel lame for asking.
For example, let's say I'm editing dialogue in Garage band and I want to delete an "um". Can't I just mark it and then delete it, pulling the rest of the clip up?
    Thanks so much!
    Kirk

The reason GB doesn't have this is because it was created for music - and there you want the gap to remain, otherwise everything that follows would be out of sync.
If you're only editing spoken word, an audio editor is the better alternative. On the other hand, you can get used to editing audio in GB, you don't even have to do two cuts: Do the right cut and pull the right region on top of the left to where you want it (looking at the waveform). Done.

SYSDBA is a privilege/role, not a user account - therefore the concept of changing a password does not make sense. Pl post the conmplete sqlplus or connect command you used and the complete error message.

  • Sorry for the newbie question NX5U

How do I transfer my standard definition video files on my SD card from my NX5U to DVD? I want to keep the raw footage forever and with tape it was easy. I'm new to this so forgive me.

Treat the DVD as a data DVD, copy over the raw files.  The FULL CARD STRUCTURE files.
If you mean a PLAYABLE DVD, then you either author the DVD, or play out of the camera to a DVD recorder, or your edit system to a DVD recorder.  But that is by far the WORSE way to store your masters.
What you do is copy off the full card to hard drives, as DVDs are too small to hold the amount of data we are talking about here.  Copy the full structure to a hard drive, archive the drive.  TWO hard drives really, as drives will fail.
Yeah, tape was by far more convenient to archive than tapeless media.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience but ♥ But forgot to my secret question and I want to get it back or change it

    Hi,
While creating your Apple ID initially, have you setup a rescue email, if yes then when you enter a wrong answer to your security questions, it gives you link to send reset security info mail to your rescue email address. If you have not setup a rescue email, then you will have to contact Apple.
Please read the following line at the bottom of this article  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312
If you decide not to provide a rescue email address, you can't reset your security questions and answers yourself later in the event you can't remember the answers to your questions. You'll need to contact iTunes Store support to have your questions and answers reset.
Please get the contact info as per your country from this link http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57

  • KRK VTX8 Studio Monitors for Editing (sorry for the OT!)

    Hello everybody,
sorry for the little Off topic post, I hope this is the best place to talk about this.
Do you think would be a good idea to acquire a pair of KRK VTX8 Studio Monitors (http://www.krksys.com/product_vxt.php) to use them connected to a mac Pro through a Matrox Mxo2 (http://www.matrox.com/video/en/products/mxo2/) for a video oditing station? Or maybe VTX6 or VTX4 would be better?
    My studio is 4x3 meters.
Am I risking to make my step longer then my leg? To do too much?
    Thank you very much,
    Stefano Bianchi

KRK monitors generally have a pretty good reputation. The VXT line seems to be their mid-price line between the Expose and the Rokit series. I'm more familiar with the discontinued V series, the KRK V6 was a good near-field monitor in its price range.
I'm sure they'd be acceptable for an editing situation, but I'd question the 8" for such a small room. You might be better served with the 6" or even the 4s.

Adobe Photo Downloader has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
    Error Code: c0000005
    Address: 75e32f71
I clicked on the OK button and the downloader closed.
I did a search on this error code (c0000005) and there seems to be a workaround but no solutions, why is this? I ask that because this problem seems to be years and years old, going back to at least 2005 (do the math that is 10 years).
I don't even have the Camera hooked up and I get this error on download.  I redownloaded everything and reinstalled.  I allso saw the AVI issues reported with this proble so i updated Quicktime though without the camera being hooked up when I get this error I didn't expect that to work.  I tried support and they wouldn't help because I bought it in March this year.  Pretty frustrating as I have re-purchased Elements about every 2 years.  I think I might need a new CODEC?   I had this problem on an Earlier version And I seem to remember that being the Fix but this may be something completely different

I finally found that it was missing a picture so the Catalog was "corrupted".  I just deleted the picture and it started working.
I hate Adobe and their total lack of support - thanks for nothing Adobe .  Also get this - they offered me to upgrade to 13.0 ( My 12.0 is only 6 months old  but they still don't support it on errors.  Only install errors!
I have upgrade and repurchase this product 4 times now.  I will find something else next time!

  • Adobe Reader 8.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience

Ver 8 installed fine but can't get it to launch from any application. Have tried going back to earlier versions (6.1,6.2,7) but the same problem occurs.
    Same error message each time:
"Adobe Reader 8.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"
    AppName: acrord32.exe AppVer: 8.0.0.456 ModName: acrord32.dll
    ModVer: 8.0.0.456 Offset: 00020916
Tried every troubleshooting tip in the Support Knowledgebase to no avail.
Have been using Reader for years with never any problems and now I can't seem to get this fixed after numerous hours.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Is there a free support line I can call or is it paid support only?
    Thanks,
    Dee

Like others my problem was Adobe Reader 8.1.2 died terribly and with a buggy stench with the following error:
    AppName: acrord32.exe AppVer: 8.1.0.137 ModName: msvcr70.dll
    ModVer: 7.0.9466.0 Offset: 000013d6
    RESOLUTION ON XP SP2
    1. Control Panel, Users
    2. Create a new user account NewUser (for example)
    3. Start, Log Off
    4. Switch Users to the NewUser
    5. Wait the mini eternity for new user to be set up.
    6. Start Adobe Acrobat 8.1.2 and you will see a red splash screen along with some license updating things.
    7. Adobe 8.1.2 now starts fine under NewUser
    8. Switch back to your regular user name. Start, Log off, Switch Users
Now a note to Adobe. Do you folks really have to make this such a frickin pain to get working? Do you at Acrobat have any idea of how much time we users blow and how much of our lives pass by while we try to re-download and work with this product? You are directly responsible for a small slow down in the world economy by this. Get the hint.... create an 8.1.3 that omits the secret code steps above.
The only thing that kept my sanity during this were nice songs on channel 86 on SIRIUS. Thank you SIRIUS.
    Thanks,
    Jim

Well I was able to successfully revert back to iTunes8. Here's my steps:
    1. In Add/Remove Programs I deleted all Apple products (iTunes, QuickTime, Safari, Bonjour, etc.)
    2. I then check C:\Program Files\ and made sure all folders were deleted (QuickTime, etc.)
    3. I then ran a Registry Cleaner program to make sure all entries from Apple products were removed.
    4. I then rebooted my PC
    5. I then downloaded iTunes8.0.2 from here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/ipod_itunes/itunes802forwindows.html
    6. After it installed it said it could use my iTunes library file because it was created with a newer version. So I re-created my library by following these steps: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
It took some time but iTunes is now back up and running. And I have all my playlists, etc. I haven't tried to sync anything yet. I'm just thrilled to have my iTunes back!
