My MacBook Pro laptop is less than a year old, and when I got it I stopped using Firefox for 10 months. I want to go back to Firefox, but can't get it to update to 3.6. I keep checking for software updates, but ff is never among them. I've also tried to install 3.6 from the Mozilla site several times, and no problem UNTIL the end, when I get that "you don't have permission to access some items" message and the install is canceled.
Well, now you know what happens when you jailbreak (yes, I know that you didn't know, but hopefully you will not consider it in the future after seeing what happened here).
Anyway, since it is used and jailbroken, I'm guessing you bought it off of eBay or something like that. I'm sure there's a workaround for your problem, but you shouldn't have to go through that hassle. I would recommend attempting to return it and either buy a brand new one from Apple to insure that there are no problems, or, if you want a used one because it is cheaper, be very careful and make sure the seller agrees that it is fully functional, and that you reserve the right to return it if there are any issues.

I purchased a used ipad 2 that turned out to be jailbroken and i cannot update or restore the ipad 2
I purchased an ipad 2 from ebay and a little while after recieving the device I realized that it was jailbroken. So I immediately tried to restore and update to ios5 and it would not update giving me the error message that there was an issue downloading the software and the session has time out. I tried restoreing the ipad both through itunes and manually. It will not let me like its being blocked. Now I am having trouble purchasing anything from the store I get an error message of 1004 or 13019. I've tried every troubleshooting suggestion on itunes and nothing has worked. Not sure if anyone has any suggestions. I had no idea the device was jailbroken. I'm not savvy enough to attempt even using anything like that . I'm looking to just restore this device and start over.

feuw ty about the system requirements part that would have just zipped through my mind. i was acctually looking at both of those. I have been reading and stuff and people are saying that photoshop and aperture are to different things. See, until this i was comparing the 2,(like the ipod vs the zune). I am looking to do gfx design, photography, and all that great stuff. But like i said if you could give some information about the 2 that would be great, or a link with the info.

Sorry, but still another question about ampersands in data.
I'm sorry to raise a question that has been discussed before, but I have searched the forum and have not found anything I understand.
The problem: I have a user requirement to link two pages using a column value on the first page that may contain embeded ampersands. A link on this column is defined on the first report page and the passed value is to be used in a Where clause for the second report page.
This works fine for values that do not contain ampersands, but, of course, the ampersand is escaped from '&' to '&" as it is passed from the first page to the second and thus fails as a Where value in the SQL on the second page.
I have tried many ways to get an un-escaped value passed, and to un-escape the value once it is accessed on the second page, but to no avail.
This is not a user requirement I have control over, but one I must accommodate, unfortunately.
Can some kind soul provide me with help in dealing with such values passed from page to page?

I haven't had much luck understanding just when and how page items get populated and/or processed. As I understand your method, you go to Page 2, to Page Edit, to Source, and use the 'replace' function on the field that was loaded in Page 1. I hope I am understanding you properly. I'll give this a try too.

As per my understanding only a standard Dat file can be compared with one single dat file.Because Eacg dat file will be containing its own values. So multiple files cannot be compared.
Am assuming dat files containing time(s) and acceleration values(g). G value for each file differs.

I'm still not sure I follow you. When you say "Dat" file, do you mean the DIAdem 8.x standard file with the *.dat header and usuall a *.r64 binary file or two that it references, or do you mean some other specific data file with the extension *.dat or do you just mean a generic data file?
DIAdem can certainly load multiple files into the Data Portal at the same time, so you must be referring to either a limitation of the "*.Dat" file you're talking about or correcting yourself that all the data you want to compare turns out to be in one "Dat" file.

Ok, tried message boards everywhere to try and figure this out before having to post a question. Have a 21.5" iMac running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. After updates no wireless capability for ipad or laptop, imac connects fine but nothing else. No dashboard widgets work, Skype won't work. What goes?
Your post is pretty lengthy and I have to admit I didn't read it all. Please try restarting in Safe Mode, if that doesn't work please do both a SMC and PRAM reset. These may take 2-3 attempts.
SMC RESET
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
PRAM RESET
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys. -
I did ask this question before, about a week - week and a half ago. However, it had not received any answers after about 4 days. My browser crashed and I lost the page!
Anyway, I keep getting notifications indicating that I need to download update 3.6.22. This site says that it is NOT to be used with OS X 10.4.11. So, what's the real deal? can I, better yet - should I download and use 3.6.22?
Additionally, what are we supposed to do when, as the notification on this site states, that 3.6 is only temporary, when it is what taken out of usability status? ?
I'm running a G4 DP, 500 MHz, with 512 MB RAM. I'm using an Earthlink dial-up account.
DOES anybody have an answer to the above questions? Do you need any additional information?
ole_pirateYup, your question and Diane's answer helped me also. Tho' I had had problems before getting into the iTunes store I always managed to find a way. Today they had me blocked cold with the "Update to 10" advert no matter what I did. Other questioners are being told, incorrectly as it turns out, that they have to update their OS to accomodate iTunes 10 and upgrade to iTunes 10. I did the download which did not take up much more room on my crowded old hard drive and now I'm back in business.

Since you are using one of the the school's Macbooks, it is quite possible that the time and date are not properly set on the computer that you are using. FaceTime will not work if you do not have the proper time zone set up for the location that you are in. This past week, there were a two other Macbook users I've helped by simply telling them to set the Date/Time properly. By the way, you described your problem very well, which makes it easier for us to help you. Hope this solves your problem -- if not, post back and I can suggest other remedies.

I have upgraded from 10.5 to 10.6 and found that all folders/files/pics in my disk drive have 'dotted' (either white or black) patterns on them. But it turns out fine when I open up the affected files/folders/pics. And this phenomenon persisted even after updating to the latest software. I proceeded to upgrade to 10.8 and updated the latest software thinking that this might resolve the problem but still stays the same way as it was. Could it be the Adobe flash player that is causing this problem? Please help.

Adobe Community crashes when I try to post a question (rare that I am able to even post this now)
Adobe community won't let me post a question. Normally it will prompt me to log in after being logged in already. Sometimes after logging in and submitting, it just reloads to the login screen. Very frustrating and I'm not sure why this is happening. It is a miracle that I was able to even attempt posting this and another question earlier today. Normally, it would not even let me finish typing my question before this happens (see picture below) then it exits the screen and goes back to the login screen.
Anyone have any idea as to why this could be happening?
It says at the bottom in the orange box, "The content that you requested could not be displayed due to an error. You may have been logged out. If this problem persists please contact your system administrator." I haven't tried contacting my administrator yet, but I would just like to get some ideas as to why this is happening. There are a series of login bugs / features.
You should login before surfing the forums. This avoids a bug were the software doesn't notice that you have logged in.
If your login status get confused. you need to clear your web browser caches.
You should pick a forum base like the list of your posts and consider this your home base. You should put this in a separate window. You should find an auto reload add-on to your browser that reloads the page every 15 to 20 minutes. Thus, you avoid the forced logout problem.
It's probably best to use the Chrome or firefox web browser. Chrome seems to work the best on the most platforms ( works on the ipad whereas Safari has problems ).

If you don't have the reply buttons in the screenshot you might have been timed out. If you started a reply copy it, refresh the page log back in. You get timed out every 30 minutes.

First off, i think it's sad that i have to use my non apple device to post this question... Why has my iPad become absolutely useless after updating to iOS 8.1? I am unable to use my mini because it crashes, slow performance, major battery drain.
Restore iPad to Factory Default; do not restore from backup. It may be the cause of the problem.

When I download pictures from my digital camera into iPhoto, they turn out a nice large size (usually almost the full screen), but when somebody e-mails me pictures and I import them into iPhoto, or when I transfer old photos from an old library into my new iPhoto library, they turn out very small--not exactly thumbnail-size, but too small to use for calendars or photo books. I don't know much about computers, so I don't know how this happened. Also, I can't find any discernible pattern to why this happens with some pictures and not others--ie: what I described above is usually true, but I have had e-mailed photos or old photos turn out the way I want them, which is in the larger size in iPhoto. Why is this happening, and how can I make all the pictures the larger size?
Some mail programs, including Apple Mail, can reduce the size of images that are attached to a message. It's happening at the sender's end, and all you can do is ask the sender for a larger image.

I opened a file on my desktop that I don't remember putting there. We use many photos and I thought it was a photo file I was looking for. It turned out to be a keychain certificate from a client of ours. Does this mean that they were spying on me? What is the deal with that? Any ideas?
Interesting tid bit. I created an AAC of the original file, deleted the original MP3 from my library and also deleted the Clean matched track from the icloud.
Result is that it matched with the explicit version of Mrs. Officer this time.
What I am curious about is which songs this is happening for. I've went thru a few batched of about 500 songs at a time and redownloaded in 256k for many tracks. Sadly we don't have people to bring this to our attention and I have so much music that it's impossible to go thru every song to make sure I am getting the right version.
