Sorry... newbie question: Zooming in on multiple layers

I have about 20 layers of graphic artwork.
How do I zoom in on them, and then zoom out again?
using CS4

You can do this different ways.
You could parent them all to one object and keyframe the scale of that object up and down
You could turn them all into 3d layers, add a camera, and keyframe the camera to move closer than further
You could turn them into 3d layers, add a camera, and keyframe the zoom of the camera in and outYou could turn them into 3d layers, parent them all to one object, and keyframe the movement of that object closer and further in z space
This is very, very basic After Effects stuff. I would highly suggest you start here and work your way through all of the linked resources. They will save you much frustration in the future.

  • Total Newbie Question ... Sorry :-(

I know it's a windows thing, and I am now converted to Mac but I gotta know this because it's doing my head in. It's a complete stupid green gilled newbie question.
When installing new programs on a Mac can you create shortcuts to the programs on the Dock? I did what I THOUGHT it would be, i.e I made an Alias and stuck it in the dock, but on rebooting my Mac later on, in place of the shortcuts where 3 question marks which when clicked on did absolutely nothing???
    Help?

You aren't installing something from a dmg file are you? The dmg is a disk image – kind of a virtual CD. So when you double click the dmg and then get the little disk/hardrive/custom icon on your desktop that is the same as if you had mounted a CD. You then need to drag the application off of that "CD" into your application folder. Then it is truly installed.
You can then "eject" the icon your your desktop. This is what happens when you shutdown and without remounting the image your dock shortcut can't find the original.
    Just a thought.

  • Multiple version of JRE in company..How to manage? (newbie question)

    Greetings..this is a newbie question
We have 48 versions of JRE running in on XP IE6 in our company.
Some version beat up other JAVA applications.
    It's a mess.
How can anyone manage this many versions?
Can we consolidate down to a few versions?
I saw some posts on changing the JRE dynamically or perhaps using a wrapper with a product from "sourceforge".
    Are these viable?
    Thanks in advance

  • Please sorry this very newbie question.

    Hello people
Again, please sorry this question I'm very new in this Emerging Technologie.
I Wish to know the difference between Fiber Channel and Fiber.
I assume please do not laught, That a Bundle of Fiber ports conform a Fiber Channel am I Right ?
Can anyone point me a good web site where I can find this difference
    Thanks for you Help

Fibre Channel is a technology/protocol for networking Storage. See http://www.t11.org/index.html for all the standards. Fibre is either Multi Mode(orange) Or Single(yellow) and is the actual fiber Optic cable used in Storage area Networks to connect switches, storage and Host systems together.

  • How to multiple layers in the MAP web item?

    Hi experts,
I'm working on a demo with BWGIS. I encounter several problems with the MAP web item.
    My demo:
QA results visualized on global (region object - e.g. Europe, Asia), country (country object) and plant level. Use geo-drilldown to navigate into the lower layers functionality to get from the global view to the countries within one region and plants within one country.
    My settings:
Region is a static geo-characteristic. For region I used the cont200.shp file. Also country is a static geo-characteristic, here I used cntry200.shp. For test I used ARCGIS to draw (points) some example plants in the country shape file. I uploaded this shape file to the plant object (also static).
    My success:
I'm able to display the QA results in a separate global or country view within the 3.x Web template.
    My problems:
    A) The map web item in 7.0 does not display any data: it looks like no link can be made between the query result and graphic although we installed the latest IGS.
    B) I'm not able to drilldown from a global view to the countries within one region (doubleclick on one region in global view) within the 3.x Analyzer and 3.x Web template.
My first question is about the concept of BWGIS:
    1) I want to use geo-drilldown (double-click) to navigate to the lower layers. For example in the global view I see only the QA result per region (shape file of region object) -> doubleclick on Europe, I expect to zoom in to Europe and see the QA results for all the countries in Europe (shape file of country object). How do I modell this in the web application designer?
alt. 1a: 1 map – 1 layer - 1 dataprovider - underneath 1 query with region and country in the row is not allowed, so how to navigate between the two geo-relevant objects?
alt. 1b: 1 map - 2 layers (2 shape files) - 2 dataproviders - 2 queries, one with QA result per region and one per country -> in that case both will be displayed at the same time, is not what I want. How to navigate between the two layers?
    alt. other ?
    2) I know how to make maps with multiple layers in ARCGIS, but do I need this for BWGIS, because one layer is one shape file? So do multiple layers in the map web item correspond to multiple layers in a ESRI ArcMap Document.
    More specific questions:
    3) Is there a lot of experience with the map web item in 7.0, documentation and working examples? Are there known problems (I can't find anything in sap notes). Is it better to still use the 3.5 Web Application Designer for this?
    4) There is very little information on SAP help, SDN and other forums about BEx Map and moreover the MAP web item. Does anyone have more documentation for me?
    Thanks in advance.
    With kind regards,
    Rick Stoll

    Hi Rick,
I am working on the same topic. I am strongly interessted in solutions to your open questions, that you pulled forward in the past.
    Did you make any progress?

  • Custom keyboard shortcuts and editing multiple layers in Flash CS4

    Hi, all -
CS3 -> CS4 transition newb here who's getting increasingly frustrated with the new motion tweens; however, for this project, I'm working in a 3D space and require using them, so I'm dealing with this bit by painful bit. I found the tip about Split Motion, but first question: how do you apply Split Motion across several layers at the same time? I have six different tweens, and in CS3, I used to be able to shift-click or click-drag across frames and apply a command to all of them (for example, hit F5 to add frames), but Split Motion is requiring me to right-click on each and every layer. This is really laborious, and I worry about future animations that might be more complex.
Similarly, I tend to add custom keyboard shortcuts to each of my Flash versions for commands I use frequently and don't want to right-click a menu for (such as "add motion tween") - however, I can't seem to find where to create a custom shortcut for either that, or Split Motion.
Any and all help would be appreciated as I muddle through this. Honestly, guys, I WANT to like the new version and there's so many added features, but it's hampering my workflow so bad I want to pummel it with sticks.

    Hey there,
I definitely hear you about Split Motion. There is an enhancement request for supporting multiple layers, and adding it as a keyboard shortcut. The first one is tricky, but the second one is not. I think there was hope that splitting motions wouldn't be necessary much (especially since you have to be careful when doing so when eases are involved), which is why the eventual need for more functionality related to split motion was realized a bit late in the schedule.
Now regarding other operations, such as you mentioned F5 to insert frames - that and other operations (inserting certain types of property keyframes, F6, and so on) work just fine.
You can apply a shortcut to Create Motion Tween in the custom keyboard shortcut dialog.  Not all operations in the program are available though (most context menu items aren't), which is why unfortunately why we don't see Split Motion yet.
It might be possible to avoid Split Motion though with another workflow. What are you using the feature for?  Just curious in case I can help.
    Jen.

  • Vector file - newb question

After reading the user manual, I still don't understand how this works. Let's say I use Adobe Illustrator to draw a picture of sayyyyyyyy.......a kitty. Is there any possible way to take my kitty picture, export it out of illustrator as a vector file and import it into Motion so that motion can scale that image more or less indefinitely and maintain the crystal clear image no matter what the size. Like, can I zoom in on kitty's eyeball in Motion and still have the image look good?
Sorry for the newbie question but I just have not worked with vector images much. Thanks for any help.

The answer is yes. All you do is save the file as .ai or .pdf, bring it into Motion, and turn off fixed resolution for the underlying media (import the file to the Canvas, select it in the Media tab of the Project Pane, select the Media tab of the Inspector, and uncheck Fixed Resolution). You can now scale it as large as you wish with no loss of resolution.

  • Compressing time of multiple layers

sorry this is so basic...how can I select multiple layers (and their keyframes) which may span, say, 2 minutes, and reduce this to say 1 minute for all the layers, compressing all the keyframes closer together, etc.  Thanks

Your question makes it seem that you're trying to compress the time of the layers themselves (i.e., make the video footage run faster). If that's true, then you could just precompose the layers and then apply time remapping (or time stretching) to the precomposition layer.
If you're just trying to compress the keyframes, then the answer is different. You can contract a group of keyframes in layer bar mode or do it in the Graph Editor.

  • MEGA-Newbie Question

This has to be the most newbie of all newbie questions. Interestingly enough, it is the one that is most rarely answered in a non-technical way that the novice can understand.
What exactly do I need Motion for? What, in common-sense, regular-language terms, does it do?
My manuals tell me how to do all the things it does. But they assume I am an experienced editor (I'm an experienced filmmaker, but only just started working in editing) who already knows all the things that CAN be done and only wants to know HOW to do them in Motion. This is not me.
So, say I am making a 90-minute HDV feature music doc. I have footage, I have stills. I will need captions, titles and text on screen. I will need an end credit roll. What is it I will probably want Motion to do for me that FCP can't do on its own?
I'd appreciate an answer in somewhat non-technical language that addresses the practical use -- from a filmmaker's point of view -- of this no doubt amazing program.
    Thank you.

    hi Paul,
You are right you can do much of the things Motion does in FCP, but Motion takes them further and often makes them easier to do.
Briefly whereas FCP is generally for editing moving pictures from rushes to a coherent whole, Motion is used to composite or layers of moving pictures to make a new coherent whole picture.
So i plain words, you can meld different sources of video, stills text and other sources together to make a new end peice. You can animate text, warp pictures, create fires, smoke, hide bits ( masking), animate graphical elements. In short whenever you need to layer up multiple sources of imagery Motion is your man. Sure FCP can handle a lot of this, but Motion is designed specifically and only to do this, and does it very well. ( You would not want to edit in Motion!)
In your 90 minute example you could do it all in FCP and make it look very nice. But you might need to go the extra mile with the title sequence, perhaps the captions will have some kind of generic strap line ( lower third) under All these things could be done easier and better in motion. However you would not want to import the whole 90 minute programme into Motion and start throwing captions on it. Rather you would want to build each element ( strap line, animating titles, opening sequence etc) in Motion and then import them into FCP for the final mastering. Motion is for short sequences, and FCP is used to collect them all into one programme.
I make music commercials for a living, do all the cutting on FCP and build all the graphic elements in Motion, take a look at my site for some examples if you'd like,

    Hope this helps you

  • Photoshop CC 14.1 editing paths on multiple layers disabled?

Has editing paths on multiple layers with the direct selection tool been disabled in Photoshop CC 14.1? I can't seem to figure out how to do it now, shift- or command-clicking doesn't do anything. In fact, I can't even click to select individual paths on different layers, something that Photoshop has had forever.
While it was at times problematic the way it was in 14.0 (always selecting multiple layers and having to go into isolation mode to edit just one), there were times when it was useful to edit multiple layers, or even just click between layers with the direct selection tool.
I've seen this documentation on the site, but I'm not sure it's very helpful. Can someone give me some assistance?
Also, what is the custom keyboard shortcut for entering/exiting isolation mode? It is mentioned in the above image, but what actually is it?

You can still work with paths the way you could in 14.0 -- just choose the All Layers mode in the Path Selection tool or Direct Selection tool options bar. We added the Active Layers mode for users who prefer to isolate which paths can be selected based on which layers they have already selected in the Layers panel.
    To clarify:
-Active Layers mode: Clicking or dragging on the canvas with the vector selection tools will not affect which layers are selected in the Layers panel. Double-click to enter isolation mode is disabled.
-All Layers mode: Works just like in 14.0 -- clicking or dragging on the canvas with the vector selection tools can change which layers are selected in the Layers panel. Double-click to enter isolation mode is enabled.
If you find yourself switching between these two modes a lot, you can add a custom keyboard shortcut that will toggle which mode is selected. In the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog, choose Shortcuts For: Tools and scroll down to the Direct Selection Mode Toggle option. Add your new keyboard shortcut here.
As for your question about isolation mode keyboard shortcuts, this just means that you can assign a custom keyboard shortcut to this command as well (Select > Isolate Layers).

  • Newbie Question. just installed IE7.. how do I set up a local host to preview sites?

Sorry for the newbie question... but it's been a long time since I have done this
    Thanks!

Just define your site in DW as always.  For a static site, that's all you need to do.

  • Newbie question: JSP x JSTL (Will JSTL kill JSP?)

    Hi,
I'm newbie in java development and know I'm learning about jsp and jstl.
I'm reading some articles about jstl, but my doubt remains...
Was jstl create to kill jsp in apresentation layer?
Please, if possible, show me an example that I really need use jsp instead of jstl?
What kind of things can't I do with jstl?
    Thanks a lot

I'm sorry, my question wasn't very clear.
When I said JSP, I wanted say Scriptlet...
My central point is that Scriptlet is very confortable for me at the moment...
So, I don't see a motive to change:
    <% if (1 == 2) }....
    to
<c:if test="1 eq 2">...Lots of motive to change.
Now... you can say that jstl is more easy, Or you can say that JSTL is easier.
but if a big number of people start to use it, it will increase and will turn another programming language...It sounds like you think this is a new thing. JSTL has been around for a very long time. 2001 vintage. It's already here, dude.
Besides, it's not a programming language per se. There will be other tag libraries, but those are custom. JSTL as written hasn't changed in years. The standard won't expand.
So, why create another programming language if we have Scriptlet to do the same?Like I said before, scriptlets were the mistake. They're unreadable, ugly, and encourage putting logic in JSPs. Very bad, indeed.

  • Domain name settings - Newbie question

    Sorry for a newbie question!
I am already pointing a domain name to web hosting for email account. Now, I need an application server to run ERP software and Oracle, and installing Solaris and Oracle need a domain name.
If I point my domain name to the server, how do I receive emails from web hosting???
Install an email server to the application server instead? What can I do if I want the same domain name? Any option?

Setting up a mailserver and making sure it doesn't suddenly turn into a spambox is not something you do with the use of a few commands. I suggest to dive into the Solaris admin guide on docs.sun.com and read up on e-mail and network services.
If that is asking too much of your time you'll be better off getting your ISP to handle all this for you.

Your questions are completely off-topic for the forum.
These SunOS forums are for questions on <i>"how do I install my OS"</i>
You particular question is in the <i>"how can I install Solaris while using the CD drive"</i> forum.
So, if you had a question on how to edit the /etc/inet/hosts file to establish a FQDN on the computer, then it might be appropriate for the forum.
Unfortunately, I don't have a clue on where to redirect you, except perhaps to the Sun Java Enterprise System suite of applications?

  • Copying multiple layers

    Hi,
I'm a newbie using Illustrator CS4.  I have an artboard that is full of graphics on multiple layers.  All I want to do is make a copy of this artboard but maintain all of the layers.  However, when I copy and paste all of the layers onto a blank artboard, then all of the graphics are pasted into a single layer.  Help, please?
    Thanks!

In the Layer panel flyout (upper right) of the new document, make sure Paste Remembers Layers is checked.
