Sorry, serious error, shut down...

I've experienced this problem for many months (Premiere Elements 7).  I've tried the dozens of fixes found on the internet.
Clearly this is a huge problem for a vast number of users.
Apparently it's a serious bug in the application that Adobe needs to properly address.
I need a one-time permanent fix for this.

Unfortunately there is not one size fits all magic fix -- any more than there is a single specific problem that every person is experiencing. You'll kind of need to troubleshoot it to find out where things are failing.
What operating system are you using?
What processor do you have and how much RAM? When did you last run Disk Cleanup and the Disk Defragmenter? How much free clean defragmented space is on your C drive?
What model of camcorder is your video coming from and what format and resolution is it? What are your project settings, as listed under the Edit menu?

    Welcome to the forum.
Well, it worked one day, but not the next. That indicates that something has changed. The trick is to find out what has changed.
    Here are the usual suspects:
1.) video driver - these get killed even by simple OS updates. The fix is to get the latest and install that.
2.) audio driver - these get killed even by simple OS updates. The fix is to get the latest and install that.
3.) QuickTime Player - check that you have the latest one (7.6.2, IIRC)
Now, other things could well have changed. This ARTICLE might help you find clues as to what is now wrong.
Next, this ARTICLE might help you find ways to trim your system of its "baggage."

  • Serious Error Shut Down when Burning DVD

When attempting to burn DVD, Premiere Elements 3.0 immediately says there has been a serious error and program must shut down. Video was captured from camcorder, is about 12 minutes, just a couple of scene buttons on scene menu. Using an HP 2.4 ghz quad-core PC with 3 GB ram. I'm using DVD burner in other programs with no problem.

Success---I followed some troubleshooting links and the one that worked was as follows:
    4. Re-create the Premiere Elements PluginCache.
The PluginCache is a Windows registry entry that contains information regarding the status of all native and third-party plug-ins used with Premiere Elements. To re-create the file, hold down the Shift key while choosing Start > Programs > Adobe Premiere Elements 7.0. Release the key when the Select Initial Workspace window appears.
Thanks for all the help...hard to believe the fix is as simple as holding down the shift key as the progam starts!!

  • "Sorry - serious error requires PrE3 to shut down" - every time?

Hi - I've been using Adobe PrE3 for years to digitally enhance and transfer old home movie film (8mm-16mm) to DVD without any dramas. Always worked fine in a computer used specifically for that task.
A few weeks ago, while trying to open an existing file, up popped the message: "Sorry - a serious error has occured that requires Adobe Premier Elements to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project."
Not once, not twice, but every time I try to open any file in the programme. Have tried removing and reloading (authentic software) and still the problem persists.
I'm using Windows XP in this computer and have no idea how to fix the problem.
Even tried removing and installed PrE9 which I use in second computer but it wouldn't work at all.
    Can anyone help please?

    Pleasant dreams, ATR
Windows XP (professional) is installed in the computer with PrE3 I use almost exclusively for film transfers.
My main computer has Windows 7 and PrE9 installed in that for fancier editing I do with videos, slides - that kind of stuff.
When I was having the initial troubles with PrE3 computer I thought I'd load 9 to see how that performed. Well, it didn't. Wouldn't work. So uninstalled it immediately and have been persevering with 3 ever since.
I also installed PrE3 in the Windows 7 computer but it would not open up the "capture" window - just sat quietly in the corner, brooding. Mind you, PrE9 works fine in this same Windows 7 computer.
Problem first started 7 days ago.
Tomorrow will take the Windows XP computer to a local computer business that has been quite helpful in the past and see what he makes of it.
    Thanks anyway.
    regards
    David

  • Open in new window error shuts down Muse

In latest version of Muse when I like to set "Open in new window" I get this message:
and Muse is shutting down immediately. I am getting this message when I am setting the link into Lightbox widget.
    Please advise.

In your documents folder, you should have a file MuseLog.txt. Could you send this file, as well as your .muse file, to [email protected] with a link to this thread? Also, if you could include a description of what element or text you were trying to apply this to, that would be helpful. If your file is over 20mb, you can use Adobe SendNow or SendThisFile. We'll take a look and see if we can't reproduce the issue.

  • Error Shutting Down DB 10g from EM on Vista Ultimate????

    Hi there,
I installed Oracle 10g Rel2(10.2.0.3) on VISTA ULTIAMTE, all the services are up and running with no error, am trying to shutdown the DB from Enterprise manager and it doesn't do that and a message comes to the screen saying:
Oracle Enterprise Manager executable has stopped working and was closed
got a message from Vista that can be related to "nmesrvc.exe"
Tested Host credential after loging to the DB from em, and look like it raises from Host credential issue, can someone tell me what should I do step by step, I followed Oracle installation doc, for Loop back adaptor, and static ip address as well as set "Local security policy".
am totaly exuahsted, even tried to install in winXP compatibility. No point.
Can someone tell me Why there is no clear answer for that and if ther is I'd be happy to know as i am running out of time.
    Thanks

Oracle once told me that RAC was certified and supported on Apple Macs.
Not knowing better a friend of mine built the first RAC cluster on Macs in the world.
And by first I mean before Oracle and before Apple.
Certified and supported only means nothing they will help you fix it if you open an SR.
It does not mean that anyone has ever been successful doing it before.
The end of the RAC-on-Mac story ... It absolutely screamed. Beat heck out of Sun Solaris and Linux.
But this lesson came with a lot of bricks on the foot.

  • On a sx40. When I turn on camera I get Lens Error Will shut down automatically. Restart camera

I need help.  I bought a sx40 camera on ebay.  After only a month of occassional use I now get a lens error message.
It states Lens Error, shutting down automatically Restart Camera.  I have not dropped the camera or abused it in any way.  But there is a really loud screeching sound as the lens tries to come out but can't.  Anyone have any answers.

yes first see if you can get the extended warranty thru Square Trade if its not to late or what the return agreement with the seller was...do that first. If you used PayPal they also offer automatic purchase protection too. Lens problems are not cheap to repair. Second use some compressed air and see if you can gently blow out and thing that may have gotten inside the lens assembly. Blow the air from inside the battery compartment and any other open space...the key it to blow anything out. Also blow the air around the lens assembly. That sound you hear is not a good sign.

  • Shut down because of an error

How to fix the error "shut down because of an error"

    Perform an SMC reset.
Read all the steps. If the MacBook Air never gets beyond the login screen before it spontaneously shuts down you won't be able to perform the "Before Resetting the SMC" steps, so just skip to the next section.
    Before Resetting the SMC
Try each of the following steps in this order before you reset the SMC. Test the issue after completing each troubleshooting step to determine if the issue still occurs.
Press Command + Option + Escape to force quit any application that is not responding.
Put your Mac to sleep by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Sleep. Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
Restart your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Restart.
Shut down your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Shut Down.
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if it's not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Determine if the Mac starts and allows you to log in.

  • Error Message:  Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premier Pro to shut down.

Hi. I'm having another serious problem with CS4 (the version that comes with CS5 when you don't have 64 bit capability. I just finished a project, had saved it, and then had switched over to Adobe Encoder to create a finished flash video (which worked perfectly). I shut down CS4, went home, tried to restart the main project to create a video from the same project (wanted to make an mpeg version as well) and got the following error message:
Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premier Pro to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project. Then the system shuts down.
Not only can I not open the project I was working on, I cannot open any of my prior projects without receiving the same error.
Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this issue and how to resolve it?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
By the way, is everyone else having the same amount of problems with this software? I've never had any software that has had so many problems from the beginning. My opinion of this software and Adobe in general has gone down substantially.

Not enough information for anyone to even make a guess
Work through all of the steps (ideas) listed at http://ppro.wikia.com/wiki/Troubleshooting

  • Error Message: Sorry...serious error PRE 7 must shut down

PRE 7 was running well. In fact I edited four movies successfully.
But now whenever I attempt to Open Project or New Project I get the message:
    "Sorry...serious error encountered...must shut down.
It is really frustrating to pay for a product and then not have it work.
Any suggestions will be sincerely appreciated.

I am running Windows XP. (latest version).
The properties window for my drives says:

    I use camcorder: Sony VX2000.
I have deleted all previously made (4) movies, hoping for a clean start and hoping that would help. It did not.
So now I don't even get a chance to load from the camecorder because when I click on New Project, I get the message: "Sorry..."
Since PRE 7 has worked in the past, I can only assume that somewhere in there I did something wrong to cause this problem.
Side note: I down loaded a tril version of PRE 8 to see if that would work. Same thing. I have since removed PRE 8.
I will most sincerely appreciate any help because I am a total computer dummie.
Note that I did update to the latest version of Quick  Time. Did not help.
I am so frustrated over this. I recently videoed a Puppet Show and gal is really on my case for the finished product.
