Question

I set up my office web apps server according to the directions here:

and

When I navigate to any word document (or any other web apps document) I get the error below:
The event logs on the Web Apps server seem normal, nothing more than monitoring reports all saying "Healthy", no indication
the server is getting the request, much less processing it.

On the server, in the ULS logs I can see the request
Name=Request (GET:http://testarea52.com:80/sp13training/ed/defTeamSite/_layouts/15/WopiFrame.aspx?sourcedoc=/sp13training/ed/defTeamSite/Shared%20Documents/hasbeen.docx&action=default)
The next entry in the uls is a line "Site=/"
Followed by
Microsoft.Ceres.CoreServices.Node.NodeController : Already configured with version (poll) 20
Self-issued token request for 'wopi/testarea52.com@006f5301-2322-44c2-8378-61d313cd9395' succeeded.
Nothing else helpful after that. 
Has anyone else seen or have an idea on what the problem could be? 
It's running on a server that has no SharePoint or SQL binaries installed, all on the same domain, including the win7 machine I am testing from with Office 2010.

Sorry, I should have said that this is an HTTP connection, not an HTTPS.  There are no Certificates showing when I browse to the server.
Additionally I found in the ULS logs on the server the line
WACServer HttpModule: Completed request with status code [404]
which was immediately preceeded by
Librarian.SetCompleted(http%3A%2F%2Ftestarea52%2Ecom%2Fsp13training%2Fed%2FdefTeamSite%2F%5Fvti%5Fbin%2Fwopi%2Eashx%2Ffiles%2Ff546b1fcdd5345e6bac67ccdf20bbdec, Png, p1.img) - status = ConversionError
