Sort bookmarks alphabetically

Hi,
I created bookmarks in Indesign using a TOC, but in Acrobat they appear in reversed order (bookmark on last page appears first in list).
1) can I reverse that order, so the order of bookmarks follows the order of the pages in my PDF?
2) can I alphabetically sort bookmarks?
My client wants structured bookmarks, meaning
Chapter 1
A
B
C
Chapter 2
A
So this is what I'm working towards...
Thanks
Vanessa

Tom,
Thanks for sharing this info. Recently becoming a Mac-ite you've taken away frustration of solving this. I'll download the software today.
By the way how's PA doing these days, my folks still live in a small town south of Harrisburg?

• Will Safari sort bookmarks Alphabetically?

Is there a way to sort my bookmarks alphabetically? It makes me a little crazy trying to find my bookmarks when they are just listed the way I added them.
I know I can go in a do it manually if I "show all bookmarks", but that seems kind of archaic not mention really slow.
Anyone able to help me out? Many thanks for advice...
Susan

You have got to be kidding?? Wow. What a design flaw, how can Apple think that we wouldn't want that option? Hummmm...let's see I guess I can do it myself from the "all bookmarks" view. Geez...I hate to move everything to Firefox and import it back. To me that's a real pain.
It's funny but people told me that Safari has lots of problems but from the moment I opened it I totally fell in love with Safari!! Now that I'm hooked I find something simple like arranging bookmarks can't be done. I guess I have some decisions to make. Either go back to Firefox (it does have some nice qualities using my iMAC) or just grin and bear it with Safari.
Thanks for your reply, I really appreciate it.

• How do I permanently and automatically sort bookmarks alphabetically using a Mac?

Have followed various suggestions from info already provided by Firefox, but changes in sorting will NOT remain permanent or automatic. Details relating specifically to Mac might help.

• How do I bookmark a pdf? How sort bookmarks in Firefox?

Since my browser is Firefox, not Safari, this may not be a question easily answered. But I need to bookmark a pdf file, and though the pulldown with correct info showed as usual, it did not appear on my Bookmarks list.
Also, many times I have followed the Firefox instructions for sorting bookmarks alphabetically, but I simply can't get that to work. Any suggestions?

This is a Pages forum and nothing to do with either Firefox or Safari, you will have to find an appropriate user group or Forum to answer your question.

• I have Firefox 3.6.12. How do I alphabetize bookmarks. I go to sort, alphabetize, and then when I open bookmarks, they are not sorted, not alphabetized.

My question is the same as above. I "sort" by bookmarks in alphabetical order, then go to open all my bookmarks and they are not in alphabetical order. Some bookmarks are single; some are in folders.
I have a long list of bookmarks and it's taking forever to find a bookmark because they're not in order. You can email me at <email removed - c>

I want to sort all my bookmarks alphabetically but can't. You only let me drop a bookmark into an already-existing folder. And if that is the only way, how can I create new folders so that I can try to create meaningful folders?

With the iPod connected to the computer go to the Music pane for the iPod in iTunes and check the box that says sync only checked songs. The check the songs you want synced and click on Sync. For more info see:

• How to sort bookmarks alfabetically?

I hate sorting my bookmarks manually. (Safari 4.1.2)
A function for sorting bookmarks - haven´t found it. Does it even exist?

Hi Sverker
Does it even exist?
not built-in, click a button or set a preference, no...
but if you select all the bookmarks in a folder, drag them out to a Folder on the desktop you created (with sort by name enabled, which is the usual default) - you can drag them back in again, duly sorted alphabetically, trashing the un-sorted ones right after.

• How can I sort Bookmarks by name A-Z in the bookmarks drop down menu?

I have tried organize by name but it doesnt give an apply option and doesnt take effect

Sorting Bookmarks in the Library window (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks) is for temporary display. The Bookmarks are not permanently sorted.
To permanently sort, open the Bookmarks Sidebar (Ctrl+B opens or closes the Bookmarks Sidebar ---- Cmd+B in OSX), right-click (Cmd+click in OSX) the "Bookmarks Menu" folder and choose "Sort by Name". See:
• How can I sort bookmarks within a folder by date such that this is apllied not only in the library but also on the toolbar?

Hello,
I have several folders on my firefox toolbar which I use to sort new bookmarks by topic. If I add a new bookmark to a folder it is alwas placed at the bottom (below existing bookmarks) which is somewhat annoying with a increasing number of bookmarks. I would like to have the bookmarks recently added at the top of the folder (above existing bookmarks).
It's no problem to sort them this way within the library. But back at the toolbar everthing remains the same. The only option that seems to work here ist 'sort by name'.
Is there any way to sort the bookmarks by 'date added' such that new bookmarks are placed on top and this is applied also outside the library?
I hope you get my problem!
Thanks!

I do not think there is a way to do that without add-ons
There are a couple of workarounds I am aware of
* Add the bookmarks manually in the bookmarks library and choose the position. That is using Show all bookmarks -> open required folder -> select a position and right click -> add new bookmark
Rather a slow and clumsy process
* Sort a folder and copy it. If you sort the folder contents then copy and paste them they remain in that order when pasted.
There are add-ons but I have not tried them. For example
* https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/simplesort-bookmarks/
* https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/auto-sort-bookmarks/
There will be others available and take note of the advice to backup bookmarks manaully.

• Why aren't there any folders for sorting bookmarks?

I have a lot of bookmarks and having one long list is cumbersome. Why isn't there some way to sort bookmarks so that they can be used efficiently? Do the developers of this browser think that people only bookmark a dozen sites? For this reason Firefox can't be used for serious work or browsing. Are there any plans to change this? And is there a workaround at this time?

Hi,
Unfortunately Firefox for Android doesn't have this feature natively. I don't know why. The workaround is to bookmark your sites on the Desktop Firefox and then use Firefox Sync to transfer them over to your Android device.

• Sorting in alphabetical order

How can I sort paragraphs alphabetically in Pages 09?

Inside the WordService 2.7 download folder is a file called ReadMe.rtf double click it and it should open in Text Edit and says:
"Installation:
+Copy WordService into the directory "Services" (located in the Library folder of your home directory), then log out and log in again. If there's no such folder, just create one using the Finder."+
In the side bar on the lefthand side of every open Finder window should be a little house icon probably with your name next to it. This is your computer account.
Click on it and find the folder labeled Library which should contain another folder called Services. If you don't have a Services folder create one:
+Menu > New Folder > click on it and name it "Services"+
Drag WordService.service from your downloaded WordService folder into the above folder. +Do not+ drag the whole folder in.
Now you will find the contained services under every application (including Finder) menu (eg the Pages menu) in a submenu called Services. There are many services in the menu. The specific services you want are +Format > Sort Lines Ascending/Descending.+
