Sort by Artist / Date in List View

I like to have my albums sorted by Artist and then chronologically by Release Date
This is fine in Grid View as i can sort by Artist and within that by Date.
But when i switch to List View it sorts by Artist and within that by Album Title.
There doesn't appear to be an option to specify a secondary sort field in List View.
I could live with this in iTunes since I browse in Grid Mode
but I presume it will download to my ipod in List View.
So am i missing a trick here - is there a way around this?

Would you like some suggestions of where you can get help for that? Economy is in the toilet, people are out of work, losing thier homes, can't retire after working for decades, etc. but that a couple albums released in the same calendar year don't sort in order of release in iTunes...

How can this be? They are so particular about everything and they don't see this as a problem for serious music people?
I can remember before there was such a thing as iTunes and people actually listened to their music and enjoyed it. It didn't matter when they last heard the song, how many times they have heard it, didn't have to write down which were their favorites and which were not, we just knew which ones we liked, etc.. Not anymore. Now people are concerned more with how many times a song has been played, ranking their library in order of their favorites, being sure to know when they last played some song, the order of two albums released in 1968 (even though the "serious music people" should just know that), etc.
It makes me wonder if people actually listen to their music anymore since they seem much too busy cataloging, sorting, rating, and making sure their playcounts get updatred correctly. I honestly think iTunes may have messed up the way people listen to and enjoy music now. It is kind of sad really.

  • Sort order when using "Album by Artist/Year" album list view

In iTunes 10, I seem to have lost the sorting I've been using for the past 5 years at least. I use the "Album List" view, and have the album artwork showing to the left of the songs. I see the new "Album by Artist/Year" sort option in the album artwork column, and that is how I would like it to sort. However, now the album are arranged by artist, and within the artist by the year they were released as tagged in the info for each song. I want the newest albums at the top, and I cannot figure out how to make it sort that way. What do I need to do? Basically I want it in descending order by release date, but still sorted by album.

It appears they are, although I refuse to believe this is the accepted behaviour - has no one else complained about this?
It could simply be a weakness is the way this was all designed. If you look at the information Gracenote uses, it's not unusual for all tracks on a 60's compilation album to be incorrectly listed as the same year, often the year the compilation was released. The same thing tends to happen with re-issued albums. That's down to whoever inputs the information into Gracenote for that album, often a bored record company employee.
First of all, you could try changing the year for each documentary to the year the album was produced and see if that fixes the problem. If it does, then you have to decide how to handle it.
    Accept it as it is.
Change the year for the documentary to the same year as the album and simply kid yourself that it's the correct year. (I'm not being flippant, but if the documentary is all footage from album release year, then "technically", the doumentary is from that 60's year.)
Leave the year of the documentary track blank, but put the year (2010) into the track's "Comments" field instead.
Propose a workable solution to Apple via Apple Feedback. (I am being a bit flippant now. Sorry, but you'll be in for a long wait before anything might change.)
Get Gracenote to change their text fields, get the people who input the information into Gracenote to do so correctly and then get Apple to change iTunes to recognise those changes. (Now I am being very flippant. Good luck with this one!) Oh! And hope Apple never decide to change from Gracenote to someone else!
Number 2 or 3 are probably your best bet.

  • New (8.0.0) vs. old (7.x.x) sorting of albums in the list view

    Hi!
I am having a few little issues with the new classification system in iTunes 8.0.
I have just changed for the first time the album name of a few songs I imported after updating to 8.0. The album name of the CD was starting with "The". After renaming the CD, I have noticed that whenever I try to punch the name of the album directly in the Albums column in the Browser pane of the List view, I can't find it. But, if I strip the "The" from the name of the album, therefore basically punching on my keyboard whatever comes after the "The", I can find it right away. This was not the behavior found in iTunes 7.x, which somehow confuses me now. But, another problem comes up when typing the name of the songs I imported in iTunes 7.x and before. Their album names are still classified as the "The" being part of the Album name. This means that everything I had before upgrading is still behaving as if I was in iTunes 7.x (but in iTunes 8.0), and everything I imported after the update is behaving in the new fashion. I tried renaming a few "old" albums (7.x) in 8.0, and they are now sorted with the new 8.0 style.
I also don't like the new Grid view, as I can't seem to be able to type in to go directly to an album, even when the Album tab is selected. I always end up instead on artists having names similar to the album I'm looking for...
Is there a way to circumvent this new (re)naming "automation"? I like to find my albums the way their name appear on their respective album art...
Anyways, I hope I am the only one being affected by this changing, as I will find myself utterly confused, or will be forced to rename every album starting with "The" I have in my iTunes library which, by the way, seems to be a very popular way of naming albums nowadays!
    Thank you, Martin
P.S. Sorry for the double post, I didn't put it in the right section at first...

    Hi,
As of now, your authorizations still in 3.x. so please check the below tables.
RSSBAUTHGEN - it holds info provider and authorization object
RSSBAUTHGENERATD - it have user name and info provider
    RSSBAUTHTRACE
    RSSBAUTHTRUSER
    RSSBAUTVAL
    RSSAUTHHIER
    RSSAUTHHIERNODE
Coming to 7.x , Above mentioned T code kumar is enough to handle authorization concepts.
There is best document about 3.x and 7.x comparison on Google.
please search for it by using search term "An Expert Guide to new SAP BW Security Features"

  • List View : Opening folder in folder changes modified date in list view

Since my office upgraded me to 10.5.4, when I flip open a folder in List View, then flip open a sub-folder, the modified date in the original folder changes to now. Opening subsequent folders again changes the modified date of the folder above it. I do not remember this happening in Tiger, and since part of my job involves finding and archiving old files, this is driving me crazy. Can I stop it?
    Jeff Work

That's interesting, and probably why the original poster had the same issue, but it does not work that way for me with Leopard 10.5.5.
In list view, the .DS_Store does not get updated when I flip down the folder. The .DS_Store file only gets updated if I open the folder in icon view. That makes sense because the .DS_Store file stores the relative position of the icons in the window.
However, when I go back to list view, even though the .DS_Store file is updated to the current data and time, the Date Modified of the parent folder does not change.
This different may be caused by some setting you are using in Finder that most people do not use, or maybe because of some other Mac OS X feature such as File Vault (which I do not use), or maybe some third party software that modifies Finder functionality. I don't know...

  • Is there a way to sort by description in the list view of bridge?

I am trying to sort a mass amount of PDF files using the description meta tag. Is there away to add that tab in the list view under the content panel, or a way to use another panel to view the details of multiple files at once with description included and be able to sort them that way?

These are the tabs that are displayed and the ones it gives me options for.
There are many improvements needed for Bridge and the default metadata workspace is certainly one of them. In fact, in its current state it is next to useless and no help at all. But you are right, it should provide you with at least the description field but it does not. Oddly enough, the only way to achieve this is using the bottom right icons in the Bridge window. You see three of them, thumbs, large thumb with list and small thumbs with list. Currently you have selected the default small thumbs with list, if you use the middle one (large thumbs with list) and fiddle around with the slider for the size of the thumbs the description field magically appears in view but you are not able to put it in a separate column.
So the find option is still your best option I'm afraid...
You can also try to create your own workspace. Start dragging the borders to change the size of the panels to your comfort so you have a good overview of the panels you want to have in view.
You can also change the order and place of panels in multiple rows but you are limited to max three columns. Place the cursor on a panel tab and start dragging it to a new location. A single blue line means either between a row or a column, a surrounded blue line means add as a tab in same location. You also can drag the tabs for your custom order.
Now with the content panel in reasonable size use the icon bottom right for large thumbs and list view and use the slider for correct position of the description field. Save it as a new workspace (important to retrieve it when messed up). You can also have multiple windows in Bridge (at least on a Mac, you seem to be on Windows) and use one for list view and another for find results. etc. etc.

  • Sort/order contexts in universe List View Mode

Is there a way to sort or order contexts in universe List View Mode?
    Thanks

    Hi,
There is no way to order the contexts in universe list view mode.
If you want to have a specific order I suggest that you prefix all contexts by a number such as "1 - context name1", "2 - context name2", etc.

  • Data in list view

    hi all,
I added some custom fields in detail as well as list view of PCUI. But when I search I am not getting any data for custom fields in the list view. what might be the problem? please help me in this regard.
    Regards,
    Purushothaman.

    Hi Purushothaman,
You need to modify the querypart for this field. Copy the function module CRM_BSP_OIC_1O_SEARCH_FROM_RF and create your querypart for this field.
The field and method of selection has to be in the crmc_repdy an crmc_repdy_db tables.
    Creation of querypart:
    CALL METHOD cl_crm_report_qupart=>get_qupart_by_token
    EXPORTING
iv_entityname = "Class of your method reporting
    iv_fieldname = " field in the search
    iv_token = 'RAN'
    it_rangetab = " Your range definition
    IMPORTING
    ev_qupart = ls_quparts-querypart.
    APPEND ls_quparts TO lt_quparts.
    APPEND ls_qupart_and TO lt_quparts.
    Regards.

  • Any modification possible on mini ipad2 to sort by artist in the "songs" view (like I used to be able to do in iOS6)?

While the new itunes interface has a certain je ne sais quoi to it. I'd still like to be able to view my entire library list of songs and be able to sort it first by artist, not just by A-Z without artist sorting like I could with my older ipads in ios6 and before. Haven't lost that functionality in itunes 11.1 desktop. Any have any workarounds or other programs that would do what Apple seems to have abandoned?

I like being able to scroll through all my stored material without going in and out of two sub folders. Many of the artists have duplicate folders in my library through slight variations of spelling or if they record with another artist (ie. Kenny Loggins vs Loggins and Messina, etc.).  So it's a functionality that has been lost in this "update". Just want a way to get it back....... Personal preference.

  • Calendar itmes not showing end date in list view/when opened

    Hi,
Got a client with a very strange issue with meetings.
Few of the meetings are not showing end date after accepting those although he can see all meetings in calendar.
I have already checked below on his machine
switched the month view to ''low detail'' then back to "high detail"
Show end date is visible in views
    Reseted view options to default
Strange thing which I have noticed during troubleshooting is that issue is happening with Exchange cached mode only and not in Online view.
Client is using Windows 7 Enterprise with office 2010 on his machine.
I hope someone can help here. Let me know if any further infomation is required.
    Thanks

Outlook 2010 would read the local data in local email profile and the view setting is also stored in local configuration when someone runs it in cached mode.(Email profile in online mode would read the data from Exchange store directly)
At this point, I recommand that we create a new profile to check if we could see the end date in Outlook calendar view.

  • Sort options right justified in list view

New to Maverick's, but I can't get my finder window to "stick" with the layout of the "sort options". My biggest beef is that I have the "Name" sort far left followed by "Date modified", etc.. yet every day in every new finder window, the 2nd sort jumps to right justified. I want this sort option to stick to the left alongside name. I use large monitors and scrolling over everytime to drag the sort modifier to the left is frustrating. Is there a solution?

My guess would be the Images folder (Pictures in English) is designed to have the special, contextual grouping types.
I don't know why they couldn't make them available in the dropdown menu, also, but they're not.
I did a little testing and found if I called it Pictures unsorted, the options were available, but if I called the folder unsorted Pictures, they weren't.
Try naming the folder starting with Images
Edit: If I select the dimension and resolution column headers in the folder, then change the name of the folder, the columns are retained.

  • Calendar List View Sort Order

If I have two appointments set to the same time and length on the calendar, the sort order on the "month" view is sorted based on the title (this is great and what I am looking for). If I go to the "day" view or the "list" view the sort order appears to be random. I have tried to figure out what the sort order is for the list view and the day view but no luck.
I am using a second calendar in Outlook for tasks and setting all items to the same time and length. I can then create a task list that syncs to the iphone. Just can't get the sorting figured out.

    Hi,
I have the same issue since one week ago (iPhone 3GS, iOS 4.0.2).
Only 2 calendars on my Exchange mailbox are synced. Items show correctly on the day and month view, but in list view (which I use most), some of them appear under a wrong date. Annoying !
After restart and/or remove/add of calendars, list view takes a long time to 'load'. switching to day view and the back to list makes it appear (but unfortunately with the same problem).

  • Keep album stacked together by album artist, in a library sorted by artist?

I have my iTunes library sorted after “Artist”. Which gives me nothing but trouble with collections or collaborations.
So what I would like to do is have iTunes to ignore the default or general sorting by “Artist”. And instead sort only this album by “Album Artist”.
I have 12 songs with the same album title, same genre, same album artist but with different song names and artist.
But regardless of how I try to tell iTunes that it has to sort this one by album artist and not the artist, it never does.
I have tried at select all the 12 songs, get info. Write the same Albums Artist, the same Album Title and leave the Artist blank. And I choose sort by Album Artist and under option I choose part of a collection.
But this isn’t working for me, As soon I go back to my library, which sorted by Artist. The albums is still spread all over the place.
HOW DO I KEEP THESE 12 SONGS STACKED TOGETHER, without having to chance the Artist to Various Artists and write each individual artist to the song title?
Which in my opinion is the wrong and oldschool approach.

Yes, I have just checked and rechecked it again. I have set an Album Artist value for each songs and the album in general. And even if i add the Album by Artist to my list view and sort after that. It still acts up. It can't for some reason keep the correct collections together, eventhough they are set as a collection in options.
But i don't really, keeping collections together didn't used to be a problem before. But i will keep trying some different things. But it's pretty annoying, that iTunes has such trouble with this.
I really have a pretty tighty library, everything is named and set up correctly (haha, or apparently not).
    But thanks for the help.

  • How to view my music in list view in iTunes 11?

I am largely unimpressed with the new-look iTunes11. Before, I could very quickly scroll through my large music library in list view, but scrolling through the library is very sluggish, as iTunes has to wait for all of the album art to load.
There is a list view option for the movies, but not for music. Am I missing it somewhere?

I know how to view the sidebar. But I'm talking about viewing my songs, artists, etc. in LIST view, i.e. without the album art showing.
The LIST view is available for movies in the sort options at the top of the window, but not in the music section.
EDIT: I figured it out! By clicking on the "SONGS" sort option, then arranging by artist, it is like viewing the music library in list view.

  • One File Out of Order in List View

Okay, this is driving me insane - it's probably something simple that I'm overlooking, but I just can't figure it out. I imported a 17 disc audio book to put on my mother's iPod for her, and for some reason one of the book's subfolders w/i the iTunes music folder is out of order when sorted by file name in list view in the Finder, as can be seen here:
    http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2002-9/54100/FileListPic.jpg
When first imported, the default names of all the files began with "Don_T", except the problem one (Disc 14), which formatted itself more correctly as "Don't". Thinking that this might be causing the "disorder", I changed all the rest to "Don't" as well, but no dice - Disc 14 refused to move from b/w Discs 6 and 7. I couldn't see any extraneous spaces or strange characters, but to make sure I copied all but the number from the file name of another disc in the set and pasted it into 14's name, but still no change. I even tried fixing my permissions and restarting, just in case, but that didn't help either.
I'm sure this weirdness won't make a difference when loading the audio book onto the iPod, but it's making me nuts that I can't figure out how to get the stupid thing to move!
Any help to prevent my imminent cranial explosion would be much appreciated!
