Sort by badges

Is there a way to sort images by their badge types? or at least easily identify all images that have the same badge? For example I have a lot of images where the meta data has been modified by another application. Instead of selecting each one and telling LR to overwrite the metadata, I'd like to do it in a batch.
Another problem is that all of sudden I have a lot of preview images that are duplicates. One is attached to a raw file and the second one (an identical preview of the attached one) is sitting next to it with a ? badge on it. Of course LR says it can't open it because it can't find the original image.
I'd like to:
1- Find all previews with missing file
2- Select all and delete them
Any suggestion?
Thank you in advance.
PS. I use LR 1.3.1 on a Quad Mac G5 power PC

Here is the suggestion I made in my own feedback to Apple Developers:
The sortings by Date Created or Date Modified are useful only for files I created myself.
Files created by others need another option in "Arrange By":
"Arrange by Date Imported"
I guess should do it, but perhaps it would work better with
"Arrange by Date Copied"
"Arrange by Date Downloaded"
kinds of options?
Also: When I change a folder name, it is not taken into account as a "modification".
So,
is it that we would need ALSO a
"Arrange by Date Renamed"
category?
Or is it the way "Modify" works that is wrong?
Thanks a lot in advance.
You could sent this kind of suggestion, in a better English (mine is awful, I know)

• How to find out if any masters are in my Library?

Hi!
I've been using Aperture for a while (most masters are on different hard drives, but maybe some are in my library by mistake when I imported them), now want to consolidate all my photo-masters on a separate "photo" hard drive and leave in my Aperture Library only the previews and the adjustments.
I have some projects in my library, and my library is 12 GB. Is there a quick way to find out if any of my masters are in the library so I can "take them out" and put them on my separate HD?
If there was a way to sort by "badge" and see the ones not referenced that would be nice.
Thanks for any help!

Sorry I see I put my question in the wrong category, it should not be in "Book Printing". Sorry, I will report in the right place.
Not sure how to delete this one, though, will mark as answered if I can't find out how to delete it.

In the future I will be more careful when importing to make sure my photos are always in the right place and referenced.
Thanks for any help!

Easy. Add Rule "File Status" = "Managed".
Make a Smart Album, store it in your top level Smart Albums folder (I put all my Library administration Albums there), and check it before doing a full back-up, or regularly. I keep recent shots on my MBP internal drive so I can work on them wherever I am. After a month or so I relocate the Masters to my big external drive.
Note that Managed Masters/Versions are likely already differentiated by badge. Referenced images have a "link arrow" badge. Managed images do not.

• Keyboard shortcut for star shape does not work - arrow keys

I need to use the star shape to make a sort of badge with many points.
In the past, I've used the star shape and held up arrow or down arrow to change the number of points on the star. This no longer works for me in Adobe Illustrator CS4 (on a Windows Vista). Did this shortcut change? All my other keyboard shortcuts work. I tried resetting the preference file for Illustrator just in case, but it didn't fix it.

I have found a work-around for this problem, although it's a bit annoying.
I have a Wacom Bamboo tablet and encountered the same problem with establishing the number of points on a star. I tried everything and noticed it worked sometimes. Well, turns out that it will work only once after changing the settings for your pen. I just moved the tip feel setting leaving the pen tablet properties window open, went to illustrator and the arrow keys worked. If you try drawing the shape again, it won't work. You have to go back to the pen tablet properties window and move or change something, go back to illustrator and it works again. It's a little annoying, but if you're used to using the arrow keys to create shapes, it's handy to know it's there.

• Referenced masters

Just installed the trial last night. Like a lot of people, I just dove in, imported everything, and started cleaning up my hard drives (before reading the difference between aperture managed and user managed photo locations and the difference between projects/blue folders/brown folders/albums).
After importing all my photos (5000ish), I did the responsible thing and deleted them.
Luckily, I actually (for once) had a backup.
I'm not sure what I did wrong, but 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2006 imported just fine. 2005 got 'referenced'. Of course, I didn't find that out until I'd spent all night organizing 6 years of photographs.
So, I thought I'd sort by badge, delete all the 'referenced' files and reimport 2005. So far so good. If I select all images, then choose file>managed referenced files, it says I have none. Still looking hopeful. However, if I go to consolidate masters (just to make sure I'm not messing around with 'referenced files' again) it says it can't consolidate because there are missing masters.
I'm guessing (hoping) that this is just Aperture's way of helping me to find my sense of humor. But I thought I'd check with more experienced users to find out if there is something else I'm doing wrong.
G5 DP 1.8 (4GB RAM; ATI x800) | MBP 2.16 17" (2GB RAM) Mac OS X (10.4.8)

In the general metadata view, for each image Aperture lists a "Master Location" - for an offline master it should say where it expects that master to be.
I would try copying the real master files wherever that is pointed to, then retsart Aperture...
It cannot consolodate masters (bring them back into library) without first knowing where they really are.
If Aperture says the master location is inside the Aperture library, still try to put the master where it points to within the library.

• Is there anyway to make the dock icon bounce on Mac OS X via a javascript event inside a web page?

I'm creating a task management web app, that will be kept open in a tab, and used only when needed to update a your status, an I would like to bounce the icon when new task is assign to the user or other event regarding him occurs.
It would be also nice if I could some how let my application know if Firefox is currently in foreground so I could turn off the bounce of the icon.
And for it to be complete, it would be nice for my app to somehow let the user know that there was an activity it the tab ( to change somehow to color of the tab or use some sort of badge )
Of course, the dock bouncing or the change of the tab state should not take the focus of the users current application or move the focus from one tab to the tab of my web app.
P.S.
I know that I could do an alert() but this option is way to intrusive ( it probably does bounce the icon, but when in browser it takes the focus to my app tab and I hate that )
Thanks in advance

Well ok, and what about some other methods?
I need to get the user's attention.
For Windows 7 I can use toFront() method.
For Mac I need this library, right?!
I think a feature request for something like javafx.application.Application#requestUserAttention() would be fine, no?
And I think stage.getIcons().add("icon") should also set the dock icon for Mac.

• Can I sort the images used in a book's browser by the # of times used?

I'm also producing a DVDSP slideshow of the event's (selected) photos not included in the book.
Q2: Can I sort the images used in a book's browser by the # of times used?
That way I don't have to search thru hundreds of photos. When used in a book, each photo gets a badge showing the # of times used. Can this badge be used in a sort?
Or must I apply a keyword to the used (or unused) photos?
Thanks.

But if the file has been embedded, the file name is lost.

• IOS 5 Bug: Badges on Messaging app

We have stumbled upon a bug in iOS 5 running on the iPhone 4, in regards to the badges showing up on the Messages App.
You can reproduce this bug yourself.
In Settings>Notifications>Messages, set it to:
Notification Center: On
Show: 5 Recent Items
Alert Style: Alerts
Badge App Icon: On
Show Preview: On
Repeat Alert: Never
View In Lock Screen: On
Now, go to your home screen and have somebody text message you a few times in a row. When each text message comes up as an alert dialog box, click on CLOSE.
So far, so good.
However, when you go to look at your Messages App icon, there are *NO* badges to let you know that you just received 2 or 3 text messages. Furthermore, none of those messages made it into your Notification Center either.
In iOS 4, if you clicked "Close" on a Message Alert, you would still be reminded of the fact that you have text messages waiting, because the badge icon would show you how many messages have come in since the last time you launched the Messages app.
This bug is causing us to forget about all sorts of incoming text messages because we don't have a badge reminder NOR a notification center reminder. The badge icon and the notification center reminders should really ONLY DISAPPEAR once we launch the Messages app.
Thanks,
Scott

i tried calling apple about this problem back on ios 5 launch day and i even wrote some guy on infoworld about it. no one even knows what i am talking about or even cares.
im betting on apple made it that way to make the cellular phone companies happy.
im not observing that issue on my ipad, heh

• Problem with 'spread the word' badge?

I used the first (smaller vertical) badge at https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/ on my Wordpress blog but although it shows the badge, it also shows the second half of the HTML: "var pfsNextImage = "https://www.mozilla.org/img/covehead/plugincheck/wb/en-US/180_150/safe.png";var pfsUpdateImage = "https://www.mozilla.org/img/covehead/plugincheck/wb/en-US/180_150/upyourplug.png";"
If I remove that part, it just shows the badge, but do I lose anything but not including the part I've removed?
The whole code is:

<a href="https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/"><img id="mozilla_plugin_checker_badge" src="https://www.mozilla.org/img/covehead/plugincheck/wb/en-US/180_150/loading.png" width="180" height="150" alt="We can check your plugins and stuff" border="0" /></a><script type="text/javascript">var pfsNextImage = "https://www.mozilla.org/img/covehead/plugincheck/wb/en-US/180_150/safe.png";var pfsUpdateImage = "https://www.mozilla.org/img/covehead/plugincheck/wb/en-US/180_150/upyourplug.png";</script><script src="https://www.mozilla.org/js/plugincheck_badge.js"></script>

Thanks for replying. My blog is at http://adeunsheep.wordpress.com/
You will see two versions of the badge on my blog, on the right sidebar. One is 'cleaned up' where I've removed the script tag (and the link seems to work fine), the other, further down, shows the badge with the whole text including the script tag.
Not sure what "inspect the page source" means but I've tried both 'view page source' and 'inspect element' on the text both on the Firefox page where I found the badge and on my blog (from within the widget placing area, on the blog itself logged in and logged out);
'view page source' shows red text, namely numbers preceded by a #, forward slashes (/), &amp, &gt, (there's also a lot of blue and purple, and some bold black);
'inspect element' shows no red text.
As I say, I've found a workaround but figured it was worth pointing out. I must admit I don't understand how the link works without the script tag but then, I'm a complete novice where code of any sort is concerned!

• Custom sort - Bridge

I have been trying to create a plugin for Adobe Bridge that allows me to sort images by specific information included in the file name (e.g. CTR_2001 Cat D7R_SN 1124.jpg where CTR is the code, Cat is the manufacturer and 2001 the year).
First I need to sort files by specific codeOrder[].
Then, files with the same codeOrder have to be sorted by manufacturerOrder[] and then year (newest to older).
So, the result should be something like this:
CTR_2010 Case...jpg
CTR_2008 Case...jpg
CTR_2012 Cat...jpg
CTR_2009 Cat...jpg
CTR_2011 Komatsu.jpg
Once that's done I'll add keywords to each photo, probably sort some photos manually and extract the data into a text file.
I'm a newbie at coding and apologize for any basic mistake. But could somebody please help me? the app.document.sort is not showing me the sorted thumbnails.

I believe I don't need to use app.document.sort since I already have my images sorted in fileList array.
What do I need to do now to load this images to the content pane?

• Sort by Develop Adjustments

I would like to be able to sort a set of photos by those that have Develop Adjustments and those that do not. Is this easily done? For now, I don't want to sort by the type of adjustment.....just whether or not an image has one.
Thanks

I was aware of the +- badge but didn't know about the smart collection "Un-Edited." However, I do not see that "Un-Edited" smart collection. There is a "Without Keywords" smart collection. Is there a way to turn on/off these default ones? I do have LR 4.0.
Thanks
P.S......by the way, about my question yesterday or the day before concerning my mismatch between my laptop Catalog settings and my desktop settings.....I didn't realize I had created so many HDR files on my laptop, along with their corresponding adjustment settings. I was originally going to just forget about these and redo them on my desktop. However, because there are so many, I think I'm just going to have to Export all of them on my laptop with the settings and reimport into my Desktop LR. I'll just have to wait for my backup system to go through its paces and be patient while it does!

• HELP! I've created a template for event badges and have been instructed by the client to insert the (200 ) names and relevant companies into it...Is there a script that can do this in illustrator? Should I be using Indesign?

An events client I'm working for have asked me to create a template for badges. Rather than ask the printers to insert the names and companies of the individuals present at the event though, they want me to create all of the pdf files for (200+) people!
I have an excel sheet of the people that will be present. My question is: is there a way to automate this? to define editable areas in a template and run some sort of batch processing script?
Thanks!

This would be a perfect job for Data Merge in InDesign. You can place your AI design into InDesign (minus the text fields), and then easily create a merge.

• How can I stop "badges" on file imports?

When I import a photo using Lightroom a "badge" appears over the thumbnail in my Windows 7 folder.
The "badge" is a green rectangle with two right facing arrows that blocks seeing most of the thumbnail.
It appears that they are being produced by Lightroom.
How can I stop them from occurring? They are very anoying.
I also find a red rectangular "badge" with a large white check on many of my thumbnails that have been
in my computer for a while. What is the purpose of these....perhaps showing that the file has been backed up?
How do i get rid of these? They too are anoying and I have another backup program that does the job.

Well I am actually using a template. And the flash video that
was created is way beyond my ability. So I tried initially to
separate the two, the intro video, and the navigation. But they are
intertwined in a way that I do not understand. I do need to do the
variable thing. I took a flash class in school, and my book does
not touch anywhere close to this. I know its probably too
complicated to explain through a forum, but can you recommend any
resources online or books that would go more in depth with this
sort if thing. If I can just see the way it works on another site,
I know that I can do on mine.
Thank you!!!
:)

• Smart Album by Badges or External Editor?

I'd like to setup a smart album that includes only images that have been edited by an external editor (specifically Dfine 2.0). However, when specifying the parameters for a smart album, I don't see a way to choose something like "badges exist" or "external editor exists," etc.
I hope I am missing it and that it can be done.
Jeff

Nope,
but you can search by file name including extension - this may help if you are looking for TIF or PSD vs some sort of RAW file.

• I have 2 unread messages in Mail badge area, but all messages are read.

I have two messages that show unread in Mail, but, all my messages are read. I tried to sort by unread messages, but, it doesn't show any unread messages. This is an Exchange mailbox so I tried to rebuild it, but, that didn't work. Any idea why I would have a badge with 2 unread messages. I have also checked all subfolders and they do not have any read messages.
Attached is a simple screen shot.

Thanks, Ernie—
Two accounts. No third-party apps. I see a little red starburst (spiky ball with a white number within) in the Dock. Says 11. But I can't find any unread messages. But I should have mentioned that my "Drafts" folder shows a five. Is this a new thing with Leopard? I don't think Mail used to count Drafts in Tiger. Could those be contributing to the 11? Still can't find the other six...
I'll try rebuilding the mailboxes and see if that helps.
Best,
M.
