Sort by CD, then by track#

Hi,
I'm having some trouble with iTunes (again).. I have an album X (Sensation White), in this album X I have 2 CDs, 1 of 2 and 2 of 2 (obvious).
But you have to listen the songs in a specific order so it will sound like 1 big mix. I made a new playlist, called sensation white, and imported the 2 cd's (with a minute between them so you can sort them by CD according to the adding time). But I want them to sort by tracknumber, because now it's like 3,6,1,2,7,etc. Not in the correct order.
How can I do this? I allready added in 'info' of the first cd that's it #track# of 12 and for cd2 #track# of 14, because it has 12 or 14 songs in it. And I said that it's cd 1 of 2 and 2 of 2. But how to sort them now? Can I use 2 sorting fields at once or...
I'm really having struggle with iTunes, it just doesn't work the way I want it to
Thanks in advance,
Jelmer

It's a mix album, so it has different artists for different tracks. First make sure (as you have done) that you select all tracks of disc 1 and enter the disc numbers as *Disc 1 or 2* and repeat for disc 2 as *Disc 2 of 2*. Then select all tracks of both discs and make sure to set the *Album Artist* to something sensible, e.g. *Various Artists* or the DJ who made the mix. Make sure to set the Album value to the same thing for both discs. Also, on the Options tab, set *Part of a compilation* to Yes.
If things still don't link up properly work slowly through the article Polydorus pointed out earlier. Sort fields with random values or invisible spaces are particularly frustrating.
My personal preference is to renumber the tracks on the second and/or subsequent discs so that the numbers are in sequence across the whole album, e.g. 1-26 instead of 1-12 on one disc and 1-14 on another. I've made a script called AddToTrackNumber to assist with renumbering. In this example you would select the tracks of the second disc, call the script and enter 12, being the number of tracks on the first disc. Once the tracks have been renumbered you can select the whole album and enter 26 into the box for the total number of tracks so it reads *Track [ ] of 26*

  • ITunes 11 - How do you Sort by Genre then Artist? Other General Customizations

    Hello,
Maybe somebody else knows how to do this, if so please post it. I am really disappointed in iTunes ever since version 10 I think, where they majorly revamped the whole look for it. No, I am not one of those people who are opposed to change and are slow to adapt when changes are made to applications either. I just feel these new changes majorly suck.
So I am using version 11, the latest one. Apple has made it so uncustomizable that it is ridiculous. Correct me if I am wrong in saying this, that you can’t do any of this stuff anymore. When I open iTunes I like to be able to select Genres and then have the music within the Genre sorted by artist. I don’t see how you can do this anymore. Now when you click on Genre there is no longer an option to sort anything. Everything is sorted by CD Name and you aren’t allowed to sort it any other way. Seriously, who really knows the name of every CD they own, especially when you have several 100 CDs?
So if I want to view my music by artist I have to select Artists, which that lists all artists (regardless of genre).  I hate this because then it is harder to find the exact artist you are looking for because the list is that much longer and you are scrolling through a ton more artists just to get to the one you are looking for. Yes, I already know there is a search library feature. I also like viewing the artist by Genre because it is easier to determine if the newly added CD was placed in the correct Genre. I know some people just add music and don’t care where it is placed or how it is organized, but I like to keep it all organized. I even have it organized on my computer by folders Genres, folders Artists, and then folders CDs.
This is the same for viewing your Playlists. You used to be able to select your playlists and then view a specific genre within that playlist. From there I could sort the playlist however I wanted, like by artists, and then CD. I have several playlists that have more than one genre in it. With this new version you can’t view your playlist by genre, you can only view all of the songs within the playlist.
I also liked in the old version how you could view the number of songs in each genre. Well, you can still do this once you click on the genre, but there isn’t an overview anymore. Like in the old version it would list all the genres and then in a caption underneath each genre it would show how many songs and different artists are in each genre. There was no need to go into each individual genre to view this information. You could also view the number of songs in each genre within each playlist as well.  The playlist thing has been removed altogether. Now you can only view how many songs are in the playlist, regardless of genre.
The new version does have a few tiny benefits, like easily being able to see what playlist(s) a particular song is in by right clicking on a song and then selecting Show in Playlists. I however, don’t feel the tiny tweaks outweigh the view customizable benefits of previous versions. These new tweaks could have easily been added to the older versions without disabling the customizable view settings.

    Max OSX 10.6.8, iTunes 11.1
I had a similar problem: I wanted to synch my playlist to my iphone. I like to have my playlist sorted by genre. But under each genre, albums are not sorted by the track numbers. This is a problem, especially when I am listening to club mixes when the DJ smoothly transitions from 1 track sequentially to the next one. Under the properties of each audio file, the Track Numbers and Disc Numbers are already there.
My perfect solution was to turn On Sorting - Sort Album under View>Show View Options. Then, select all the songs in that album (Shift click, Cmd click, etc) , and Edit multiple item information (Cmd I). You will see Info-Video-Sorting-Options buttons. Click on Sorting. Then, under Sort Album, Enter the name of the album. Then OK.
You should now have the playlist sorted by Genre, then each album individually sorted by track numbers. On your playlist you should see, if you scroll right, the column added called "Sort Album".
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes 11 [Songs view] - Sort on artist, then year

I just downloaded iTunes 11 and there seem to be some features missing compared to iTunes 10. One of the most important issues is that in the "Songs" view, I cannot seem to sort on (1) Artist and (2) Album year. It seems that iTunes is automatically sorting as (1) Artist, (2) Album name alphabetically. For example, for Norah Jones, first the album Little Broken Hearts (2012) is displayed, and after that the album Not Too Late (2007). Does anyone know if this can still be done in iTunes 11 or is the feature missing completely? Interestingly enough, in the "Albums" view, there is an option to sort by Artist, then Year (view --> view options).
Another issue, which I believe has been adressed in other topics as well, is the complete missing of albumart in the "Songs" view. Consequently, this was also the place in iTunes 10 where you could choose to sort on Arist/Year. I really hope that Apple puts this feature back in iTunes 11 as soon as possible.

Yep, I'm seeing the same thing.  Just downloaded iTunes 11 and now I can't sort albums by year in the "Artists" view.  I used to prefix all my album mp3 tag names with the year number to work around this, but removed it when Apple added the Artist/Year sort.  Now it's gone.  Yay!
A note: you can use the free mp3tag.de software to insert your year tag into your album titles using regular expressions.  If there doesn't seem to be any obvious solution to sorting by Artist/Album/Year in the next couple days, then I'll post here with some tips if anyone is interested.

  • How to change sort order when viewing all tracks by an artist?

    When I choose:
    Music --> Artists --> <any artist> --> All
The tracks are organized in the order they apear in an alphabetized list of that artist's albums.
    For example:
    Joe Blow - CD 1
    Track 1
    Track 2
    Track 3
    Joe Blow - CD 2
    Track 1
    Track 2
    Track 3
In the "All Songs By Artist" list, the songs appear as:
    Track 1
    Track 2
    Track 3
    Track 1
    Track 2
    Track 3
How can I cange the sort order, so that they are sorted alphabetically, like this?
    Track 1
    Track 1
    Track 2
    Track 2
    Track 3
    Track 3

I'm pretty sure you can't do that.

  • Bouncing more then one Track directly to CD

    Hi all,
I finished a project and am playing with different ways of bouncing the finals (Logic Express 7.2.3). I have already bounced them all to WAV files and also to AIFF files for permanent backup. However, I noticed the "bounce to CD" option and tried this and it worked perfectly. I played them side by side and you could not tell the difference from the CD and the project played back in Logic. However, what I cannot figure out for the life of me is how to get more then one track on this CD. Once I burn Track 1 to CD (I picked write as a multi-session disc and also tried it without it) I open up track 2, hit bounce to CD and it tells me to insert a blank disc and refuses to add track 2 to the exiting CD. Nothing I do seems to let me burn more then one song to this CD. So if anyone can please help and explain how to burn multiple tracks, 1 at a time directly to the same CD I would really appreciate it, without having to purchase additional software (if possible).
    Thanks!
    Maestro2be

The best way to do this is to bounce the tracks separately and then use either iTunes or BurnX Free to create the CD. Providing you only work with wave files (Wav or AIF), this will not result in any loss of quality.
I tend to keep wave files of all my work on the computer anyway, for reference purposes, so it's no hardship creating a folder with my bounces in and then burning them afterwards. Beats the slightly flakey multi-session disks any day.
    Have fun!
    Pete

  • With IOS 7, the coverflow screen sorts strictly by album title.  How do I get sorting by artist then by title, the way it was in IOS 6 and earlier?

There seems to be no way in IOS 7 to see a list of the album titles for an artist.  The "coverflow" screen sorts just by album title, without regard for Artist, where in IOS 6 and before it sorted by artist (primary key) and then album title (secondary key).
Also, in IOS 6 and before, under the Artist search, selecting an Artist gave you a list of the album titles for that artist, then you could select the album you were interested in (or wanted to shuffle play).  But in IOS 7, the Artist search gives you a list of ALLsongs for that Artist.  There is no overview list of just album titles, and no way to shuffle just one album from that screen.  Both IOS 6 and 7 allow one to shuffle all songs for the Artist.
How do I get back the Artist/Abums sorting or grouping, either ijn Coverflow or in the Artist search?
    Thanks,
    Rainer in Waltham

The large text size makes your post almost impossible to read.
Excessive use of bold or capitals (also) makes posts difficult to read.
You can drag most of the column headings left or right, or right-click on the header to turn columns on or off.
Once you've used File > Display Duplicates or Shift > File > Display Exact Duplicates you can use File > Display All or the Display All button at the bottom of the list to restore the display.
For general advice on organising your library see this article on Grouping tracks into albums.

  • Sorting by artist, then name.

Is there any way to bypass iTunes's sorting of songs by album? I would very much like to sort my tracks alphabetically in order of artist, and then by name of the song.
    For example:
    Amorphouse - Sidestepper
Basement Jaxx - Oh My Gosh
    Basement Jaxx - Red Alert
Radiohead - Up on the Ladder
I've only seen it able to be sorted either by song title in general (disregarding the artist) or sorting it by the artist.

iTunes doesn't provide a way of specifying two sort levels. Once you select a column such as artist, you have to accept the default after that.
You get some extra options in the album column. Clicking on album toggles between album, album by artist and album by year.
The nearest you can get is to use the browse window to selct an artist and then sort by track name within that.

  • Sort order of album ignoring track #

I am having a problem where track 9 of a specific 14 track album is listed between tracks 11 and 12 rather than between 8 and 10. I have removed and re-imported the folder at least 10 times. I have tried all of these things before re-importing:
    Renamed the files
    Re-encoded the files
Updated the ID3 tags of the files
Still I cannot change how iTunes chooses to sort this album. It's almost as if the secondary sort criteria were not track # but some other attribute that eludes me. This is driving me insane. I can't figure out a way to get this album to simply play in order, other than to create an independent playlist just for that one album.... and that doesn't really mesh with the way I use it.
    Can someone help me?
My 20th or so   Windows XP Pro

Try making sure they all have the same "album artist" field filled in. if any of them are blank, these get put at the top. or the end... i forget. also, make sure they all say, "disc 1 of 1" in the track info. that should put them in track order.

  • I have Firefox 3.6.12. How do I alphabetize bookmarks. I go to sort, alphabetize, and then when I open bookmarks, they are not sorted, not alphabetized.

My question is the same as above. I "sort" by bookmarks in alphabetical order, then go to open all my bookmarks and they are not in alphabetical order. Some bookmarks are single; some are in folders.
I have a long list of bookmarks and it's taking forever to find a bookmark because they're not in order. You can email me at <email removed - c>

  • Sorting by "x" then by "y" my table (multiple criterias ascending and descending)

    Hi,
I converted some text to a table using this:
    function ConvertoTable(){
    var myStory = app.selection[0].parentStory;
    var myTexts = myStory.texts[0];
//We now can convert that "texts" object to a table:
//Both arguments are separated by a "comma"
    myTexts.convertToTable("\t","\r");}
I will always have the same kind of data with 3 columns, one with a mark/value, then a name, then a description.
I need to sort my table first by the first column in descending order (99 to 90) and then by name in ascending order(A to Z).
I will then export this table once it's sorted again as a text but it's an another story .
I know that you can do it through Indesign but I would want to automate it. My javascript is really rusted and I've just started to play with the greps and the scripts within Indesign...so I was hoping someone could help me to achieve that?

  • How to deal with previously authorized (then deleted) tracks?

I have a few songs that were authorized by a couple of friends to play on my computer, I synced my iPhone and then deleted said songs from my machine permanently. They somehow got backed up in the cloud and now my iPhone is asking for the authorization password every time - even though I can't play them...they appear grayed out. I obviously don't have these passwords, nor i want these songs anywhere anymore.
I am not subscribed to iTunes Match, so I haven't been able to figure out how to delete these tracks from my phone and cloud permanently.
I tried deleting all songs from my phone, but they steal appear "grayed out" on my phone. I also deleted my phone backups
Has anybody encountered a similar problem?
It would be of great help!!

    Hi Ashwani,
Xcelsius is not a Comprehensive Analysis Tool.
This is a tool which helps you to convert complex data into a visualized dashboard.
Hence pulling a huge data from SAP BW and creating a dashboard is not advised. You have other tools to perform this(Eg:BOBJ Explorer,CR,Pioneer, etc).
Xcelsius is mainly focused for Casual BI users who are responsible to take Business decisions based on the high level data which is available in Xcelsius dashboard.
So the optimized way of creating a dashboard is,restrict the values while designing the Query itself(in Query Designer) and expose only the required details to the business users.
    Hope this helps you!

  • Allow Sorting of Files in Review Tracker

Please make the file list in the review tracker automatically sort by name rather than in reverse of the order you add them. The ability to add subfolders would also be helpful.
When you create folders in the review tracker, they are automatically sorted alphabetically by name*, so obviously alphabetical sorting is possible.
*(at least it appears to be working properly in Acrobat X Pro. That functionality is somewhat random in Acrobat 9 Pro).
    Thanks.

I kinda solved my own problem. I created a new playlist and added all my music files to the new one. When syncing with an Apple TV, Apple TV would sort files primarily according to when they were added to a playlist. I believe this is because iTunes would tag files with a number when you add them in. That's why the new files would end up at the bottom regardless of sort preference. Re-creating the playlist fixed it. I am sure I will encounter the same issue later when I add new files.

  • Sorting by Keyword -then lost sort menu and captions under some pics

I finally sorted all my photos by keyword- very handy. But when I opened up iPhoto again, some appeared without keywords, although I know I either had trashed some or keyworded them previously.
Then when I tried to open the "sort by" menu to re-do them with keywords, the menu no longer appears.
I shut down and rebooted then tried again- but same deal.
Any ideas for what might have happened?
    thanks

Might be a damaged database file.
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    If that fails:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
