Sort by date modified

I'm trying to create a smart album containing all the pictures I modified let's say within the last 3 months. Even though there is a dedicated exif field for this information there seems to be no option to include this as a search parameter. correct me if I'm wrong.
But there has to be a work around.
Help appreciated.

Afaik, the "Last Modified Date" is not available in either the Filter HUD or the Smart Settings HUD.
What I do is create a Smart Album showing all Images, sorted on "Last Modified Date", descending.  I store this Smart Album near the top of my Library Inspector, and select it when I want to review or select from recently modified Images.
Here is a screenshot showing what I mean:
To sort by "Last Modified Date", include it in your "List View - Expanded" Metadata Overlay, click that header while in List view, and then change to Grid view.
I recommend that all users set up "List View - Expanded" to include all metadata fields available.

  • Where has sort by date modified gone in search results?

I'm in Lion. Where has the 'sort by date modified' gone in search results? If I search for all After Effects files on my Mac. Lion gives me a list unsorted of hundreds. Date modified header not clickable to sort. Adding a search term 'date modified' will not sort the column by date modified. Dumb.
Spotlight may be a powerfull search engine but it doesn't do the simplest thing you want it to intuitively. Simple search has been messed up for years. If the genus in Spotlight doesn't guess the file you are magically thinking you are screwed.
Find in OS9 was one of the things that made the Mac so much better than the PC. It was simple and you could find your file in a second. The PC guy would still be searching after 10 minutes.
Why can't simple search still be an option?

The answer is Forklift. On sale now in the App store for $5. Also lets you sync folders and more but has a simple search that works.
Why pay? You can just open a finder window, type in your search and click on the little wheel in the toolbar that lists these options under 'arrange by'. Or customise your toolbar to add the default icon that does this. One less third-party program to give you potential problems, also.

The unix commands you need are:
    GetFileInfo
    SetFileInfo
    and maybe find
for cryptic details use the man command
    Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal
    man SetFileInfo
You may use the SetFileInfo command to set the file type & the program which will open the file.

  • Spotlight Search Results - Sort by Date Modified

Running 10.5.2 on a Mac Pro.
Is there a way to sort Spotlight search results by date modified?
Am I missing something really basic or is Apple kinda going insane?
I also don't like that I can't search my files by filename without also allowing Spotlight to index the contents of my hard drive. I don't want my content indexed.
Why does Apple use AES encryption for FileVault? It has an NSA backdoor...
And while I'm at it, I can't network with my PB180 running System 7.5.5 anymore (OSX 10.2 let me).
GRRR! I hate when progress gets senile.

Rants will get you nowhere on these forums except banned.
If you want to report this to Apple, send Feedback and send bug reports and enhancement requests via its Bug Reporter system. To do the latter, join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report/enhancement request. The nice thing with this procedure over submitting feedback is that you get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering.

  • Why does Bridge always sort images by rating instead of by date modified?

Why does Bridge always sort images by rating instead of by date modified?
This drives me bonkers.  Everytime I look for an image I've been working on, I go to Bridge and I'm always presented with the images sorted by rating instead of by date.
Then I click on the microscopic sized, extremely tiny arrow that allows one to choose 'sort by date modified' and I resort them to find the file I need.  So that's always 3 extra clicks to find the image.
WHY can't Bridge sort images by date modified and STAY that way every time I come back?
    Thanks for any help.
I know I could just keep the recent files rated the highest, but still, I'm wondering if there's a way to make it work the way I'd like it to work?
    jn
p.s.  Note to Adobe: Please make the selection button for sorting images arrow larger than a fraction of the size of the period at the end of this sentence.  Thanks.

WHY can't Bridge sort images by date modified and STAY that way every time I come back?
By default it does stay at the latest selected sort order so this could mean it is due to your install.
First of all try to reset the preferences for Bridge, hold down option key while restarting Bridge and choose reset preferences. This sets it all to default. First try if the problem is solved then set prefs again to your own custom wishes.
Also check and repair permissions for the OSX itself (Apple has disk utility in the utility folder for this job, and there are other 3th party applications)
And be sure to have the latest update for Bridge. (Bridge CS5 should be 4.0.5.11)
In addition to the method Tai Lao pointed you already to there is a third option, use right click mouse button in content window and the pop up menu has also the sort option at the bottom of the row

  • When I drag music from a folder that contains songs by different artists and then sort by date added it shows the songs in alphabetical order by artist?

When I drag a bunch of songs with different artists from a folder on my computer to the itunes library and sort by Date added it puts them into alphabetical order by artist. I am able to workaround this by using date modified. Why does itunes do this? This started happening in July. Prior to that never had this problem. Been adding my music the same way for almost a decade.

They are added in the same minute. I do not see the second area next to that if it should be. I'm guessing an update to a newer itunes build is responsible. It's a shame. I am using the sort by date modified. But now whenever I modify a file in Itunes it automatically moves it to the top of the list. I am trying to keep the newest stuff at the top of my itunes.

  • How to change "Date Added" to "Date Modified"in Open a File dialoge

Ever since updating IOS to the latest version the option to sort by "Date Modified" in the open a file dialog has been changed to "Date Added". How can I change this back to "Date Modified"?

Hmm, in OpenSolaris and Solaris Express, the date format is a preference in the Nautilus Preferences dialog. But I don't see it back in JDS 3.
One way (assuming you're using a bash shell) is:
    % gnome-session-remove nautilus
    % LANG=de_DE nautilus &
which works, but also switches the rest of the nautilus UI into German.
Setting LC_TIME rather than LANG in the second command should work better, because it changes only the dates/times into German. But it still uses the 12 hour clock, with "vorm." and "nachm." instead of "am" and "pm". I suppose that might be considered a bug...

  • Assets Panel Date Modified Mac CS4 DW

I do not see the option to sort by date modified in the assets panel. What I liked in GoLive was I could go to the newest images I loaded in. Is there somewhat to add that column and to move the column headings around so I can have name and next to it date modified and sort by newest?

Making the transition from a familiar program to one that works a different way can be disorienting. I tried GoLive only a couple of times, and found myself hopelessly lost. However, from what I understand, GoLive did have some useful features that could improve the way Dreamweaver works, not only for ex-GoLive users, but for everyone. If you have suggestions on features that would improve Dreamweaver, file a feature request through the form at http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform.
When submitting feature requests, they are more likely to receive positive consideration if you explain why the change would make Dreamweaver better. Comments such as "why doesn't Dreamweaver do it like GoLive?" are unlikely to get a sympathetic hearing.

  • Star rating changes date modified!

Why would changing a star rating on an image change the date modified and the sort order if I'm sorting by date modified. This makes no sense! I have not edited the file. Which file was edited last is far more important than when I gave a file a star rating.
Also when a file is saved as a different file type it loses it's star rating! So then I have to go back and rate it again and it changes the date modified!!!
I have used Bridge a long time and have not noticed it doing this. Am I just going nuts and it's always done it this way?

Yeah I've heard that before but it's really not. In date modified you want to know when the file was edited last not the star rating changed. I change star ratings all the time. That gives me another way to sort the images. The way it is now all the modified files get scrambled. It's frankly absurd. You would never see that in Photo Mechanic or iTunes, etc. If people want it to work like that it should be an option in preferences.

  • Can date modified be auto set to date taken?

Is there any option to save a picture that I have edited so that it was the original date picture was taken rather than creating a "date Modified" file?
When I shoot I use both a video & still camera both of which have had the time date stamp set to coinside.  These files are loaded into one folder for video editing.  If I sort this folder by date taken I expect to see both sorts of media which were taken approximately at the same time to be dipalyed together.  Instead I'm finding that the jpegs are being sorted by date modified which came be much later.
    Any other solutions?

Since you responded that you are using Sony Vegas Pro 10 to do the sequencing of your photo and video files, I think that your question is really about the Sony software instead of being a question about Adobe Photoshop Elements.
Here is more informatio to give you some background :
There are fields within the jpeg format photo file which identify the Date Taken of the photo.
If you wish, you can use Windows Explorer with the Details option
and then choose Date Taken as a field to display within the details for each file.
That way you can can verfiy from the windows Explorer display that the Date Taken within the JPEG format file still shows the date that the photograph was actually taken even though the Date Last Modified (of the Windows file) does change when you Save the edited photo from PSE.

  • Modify "date modified" on images to match "EXIF date"?

    heya,
This isn't strictly a Arch Linux related question, but the community on here is fairly knowledgeable, and it's a scripting question .
I have a bunch of images in a directory, taken by my old BB 9700 phone.
The names of these are a bit mixed up, because BB's tend to randomly reset the increment counter - the files are named something like "IMG00001-20100216-1319", but I've got "IMG00001-20100418-1220", for example, as well.
When I browse these with Dolphin (KDE File Manager), I can choose to sort them by name, or by date. However, this is date modified, not the EXIF date. On Windows, Explorer lets you sort either by Date Modified, or by "Date Taken", which I assume is the EXIF date.
It's a bit annoying that Dolphin doesn't let you sort by EXIF date, but that's another issue. On my phone (Nexus One), the Android Gallery application also seems to sort by Date Modified, not the EXIF date.
My question is, is there any way to say, run "touch" on the files, and get the date modified to match the EXIF date? Any programs or scripts you know of that can do this?
    Cheers,
    Victor

Well... you can write a quick 'n dirty script in you favorite language for example zsh+python+awk
    $ for i in *.jpg; do touch -d "$(identify -verbose $i|awk '/exif:DateTimeOriginal:/ {print $2,$3}'|python -c 'from time import *;from sys import stdin; print strftime("%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S", strptime(stdin.read(), "%Y:%m:%d %H:%M:%S\n"))')" $i;done
(This works on bash+python+awk too, I think). This works for me because my photos have a exif filed with 'DateTimeOriginal' run identify -verbose in your images and select the correct field. My exif field have a format '%Y:%m:%d %H:%M:%S' if this is not your case change this.
EDIT For this simple date format case you can use only awk
    for i in *.jpg; do touch -d "$(identify -verbose $i|awk '/exif:DateTimeOriginal:/ {print $2,$3}'|awk -F : '{printf("%s-%s-%s:%s:%s", $1,$2,$3,$4,$5)}')" $i;done

Not a problem when using iPhoto on a Mac, which the transfer of photos is primarily based on - not manually managing photo storage as seems to be common with Windoze.

  • Is Bridge supposed to sort raw files by date modified?  Not on my systems.

I have just installed photoshop/bridge cs5 on two windows 7 systems, home premium 64 bit, one an i3 chip and the other an i7 chip.  I was formerly using cs3.
I see that Bridge is not sorting my raw files by date modified like it did before.  It sorts jpg files okay.  I noticed that the xmp files associated with the raw files, when I hover over them in Windows Explorer show the correct modified date but the thumbnail icon shows only creation date, which I assume is as it shou ld be.  Why doesn't Bridge CS5 sort raw files by date modified as it did in CS3?  CS3 must have referred to the xmp file modified date to use for sorting, I would think.
I should also mention that the metadata file does not show the correct date modified, but gives the same date as the creation date.  Also the thumbnails for raw images that have been modified correctly show the icon that indicates it was modified.
Also, I see that when you hover over a thumbnail in Bridge CS5 nothing is revealed about the file.  In CS3 Bridge hovering over a thumbnail showed several pieces of data about the file including anything in the file info.
Is this just how Bridge CS5 works or have I missed a setting somewhere in Bridge or Windows?

Curt, thanks for your response.  The tool tips
was not checked and did result in "hovering"
working.  I'm not sure why that's called tool tips, but okay.
I have just installed the software in the last
few days.  I almost immediately got an update
notice and installed the update.  I thought I was
up to date.  Then, just a while ago I got another
update notice.  After installing it the sorting
now works.  Thanks much.  Problems seem to be solved.

  • In Mavericks, is there a way to sort by and arrange by date modified?

In Mavericks, is there a way to sort by and arrange by date modified? I know how to do it in normal finder, however, if I try to upload something or open a document, it will not sort or arrange by date modified. I can sort by, but I cannot arrange by. It always seems to reset itself as well in finder for me. Is there a way to make this the default view?

    Hello Miss Vicky
Check out the quoted section below to change how finder opens up as well as other information on changing Finder views.
Mac OS X: How to Save a Finder View (Column, Icon, or List) for a Specific Folder or Disk

OS X Mavericks: Choose options for viewing items in Finder windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13896
How to set a preferred view
There are several ways you may open a given item in a new Finder window for the purpose of saving a view, but this method is the simplest. Follow these steps:
    Close open Finder windows.
Click the Finder icon in the Dock.
Choose Preferences from the Finder application menu.
Click "Always open folders in a new window" to enable that option.
Open the item for which you wish to set a view. It should appear in its own new window.
Set the desired view in the new window.
    Close the new window.
Repeat Steps 5 to 7 for any item you wish to set.
If desired, click "Always open folders in a new window" to disable that option.
    Close the Finder Preferences window.
