Harry-
Welcome to Apple Discussions!
That may be a good idea for the future.
IMHO, not enough original posters are even using the rating system.
They're saying "Thanks" which is very nice and appreciated,
but they are not using the "Solved" or "Helpful" ratings very much at all.
At the present time, I think there's a wealth of wonderful solutionss that one would never find if looking at the top rated answers.
Again, this is just my opinion as another person who loves these forums.

  • Sorting,  polls, ratings, - want to add to my html page

How's the best way using HTML, CSS and JavaScript and libraries to add sorting, polls and ratings.  Here is what i have and the center content part is just an image.  The image is what I need to create.

Do a Google search for star ratings scripts.  There are various methods with jQuery, Ajax, PHP & MySql.

  • Why don't the ratings transfer when upgrading Lightroom to a new version? I no longer can sort using ratings--which took a lot of time to create.

I have given many of my photos ratings, but the ratings don't come over when upgrading Lightroom to the newest version. Anything I can do to recreate my ratings?

Press CTRL+SHIFT+DEL, change the top option to '''Everything '''and in the bottom menu, checkmark '''Cache '''(uncheck all the others). Then click '''Clear Now'''.
Then go to '''Tools''' | '''Options '''| '''Advanced '''and in the Network tab | Offline Storage menu, click '''Clear Now'''.
Then go to '''Tools '''| '''Options '''| '''Privacy''', click '''Show Cookies '''button and delete the cookies for lumosity.com.
    Then try again.

  • Sort by rating

I think it would be nice to be able to sort posts by their
rating.  This would let you pull up a list of all the threads that
were rated well for one reason or another... I like to read various
posts that receive good ratings for the tidbits of knowledge they
contain, but then without being able to sort that means there may be a
few per page of 50 posts.... lots of navigation work to browse through
    them.

Great suggestion.  I will add this to the list of feature requests, but in the meantime have you experimented with the Advanced Search option yet?
You do have to have at least one keyword in your search, but you can filter your responses by the ratings they have received AND you can sort by ratings once you have the results.  To do that, you just need to click on the Ratings column.  When the little arrow is pointing down, then they are sorted descending and the higher ratings will be at the top of the list.

  • On Export, seprate folders for different ratings?

Is something like this possible now in Aperture? In the export window I don't see an option for it.
It would be great to use the ratings system to offer the exported images sorted by ratings. My choices in one folder, out takes in another....

O.k., I've been fooling with this, and I don't think you can select multiple smart albums and export them. I cannot find any way to do what you want, nor do I see anything that looks appropriate in the manual; you can customize the folder/file names at export, but nothing about dividing out photos into different folders at export. I can think of one way you might work around this, although it's ugly and may not work in a high-volume environment.
If you're opening the exported images in another application that has access to keywords and can sort according to them, you could try assigning an additional keyword to each image based on your ratings and then exporting metadata with your images. This process could be simplified by making smart albums in the project, such as one for all of your 4-star+ photos, and one for everything <=3-stars. Then select all images in the first smart folder and assign a keyword ("best"), then do the same with the other folder ("outtakes"). Export the project (all go to the same folder), but you could sort by keyword later. This is potentially unwieldy if you're dealing with lots of photos and have to open them all at once to do the sort, and this process exports ALL metadata. If this seems remotely useful, read page 304 of the user manual for more info (in Aperture type apple-? or it's the first item in the Help menu).
A simpler solution may lie in Automator. I'm not familiar enough with it to give you specific direction, but you may be able to set up an Automator action that will export several projects/albums (e.g., smart albums set up by rating) for you automatically (so you don't have to remember). Check out this website for ideas: http://www.automator.us/aperture/
    Wish this were more helpful...

  • New feature request: please show values once i sort the list in My Samples

would like to see actual stats / values once i sort the list in My Samples, for e.g. it would be great to display the download count in the list once i sort by downloads or display the ratings once i sort by ratings, etc...
This should be just like when i search by my name when on the samples home pg.
hope to see this feature soon, thanks!

I have been wanting a way to search only my threads. That would be a nice feature. I know that in the last 3,800 posts I have posted something along the line of "ZZZZ" but I can only find it by looking at most of the 3800 posts. This isn't good. I could
narrow it down to 2000 by selecting Answered, but really I still need to search? And no don't limit my threads to any amount to make it load faster because the truth is it did not load any faster on any of the 12 machines I use.
We are the generation of needing it all at our fingertips...Don't limit anything only facilitate us getting to the specifics we need at this second. You give someone a 1 cubic foot swimming pool and tell them that's enough cause it's all the space they can
take up at one time anyway...Give us an ocean so we can swim in the part that is good for us but help us get there with some flippers (filters) on our own threads. And please don't tell us to use a general search on all threads...I tried to find 1 of my threads
that way and after reading though 25 or so threads proceeded to skim the headers and after 200+ I gave up trying to find my thread because you can not unless you get really lucky.
    Thank you for your time!!!

  • How do I export from Aperture to iPhoto?

Ok, I am very new at all of this, and find it quite confusing.
I took several hundred raw photos and imported them into Aperture. I believe they are all in a 'project', the yellow box looking icon? Then, I created numerous folders inside this project, in which I carefully sorted all my photos by subject - about 18 folders. Then, I worked with each folder, fine tuning each image, and adding exif metadata, and rating each image. So far so good.
Now, I want to bring all this images (as full size jpegs) into iPhoto.. this is where I am getting bogged down. There is an export function in Aperture, and an import function in iPhoto: which do I use?
I have been experimenting with various scenarios, but nothing seems to be working the way I want.. specifically, to have all my images in iPhoto - IN THE SAME STRUCTURE as I have in Aperture. When I did manage to bring them into iPhoto, they all came over in one big massive event, leaving all my sorting and ratings behind. This can't be right.. I don't want to resort them all again, moving them into the appropriate folders. And I don't want to have to re-enter the exif metadata and ratings again.
Can someone please help me with this?

Export from Aperture and then import to iPhoto.
Alternatively, you can share your Previews with iPhoto but that gets only the Preview.
FWIW: your workflow makes no sense. It's like writing your novel in TextEdit then opening it in Word to Spell Check and then copying it back to TextEdit. Why not just write your novel in Word? Aperture is not an editor. It's a complete replacement for iPhoto. It will do everything that iPhoto does, and then more. Or if you want to stick with iPhoto, get an editor and use it as an external editor in that.

  • Top Level folder doesn't show lowver level pictures - Lightroom2

I have my pictures stored by year and location on a hard drive    example
    2009
        Heaven
           April
        Hell
             April
As I remember each upper level would show the counte of sub folders which allowed me to do sorts on ratings and the like
Now only the bottom most folder has the count..
    2009                0
        Heaven       0
           April        20
        Hell            0
             April      5
I tried importing everything into a new catalog with np luck.. ONly the bottom most folers seems to have the count
    how did I break it??

  • Rating folder in iPod menu

is there any way i can have a rating folder in the iPod menu?
What do i have to do?

There is no built-in feature that lists songs based on ratings.
However, you can do a lot of interesting stuff using +Smart Playlists+ in iTunes, and those playlists will show up on your iPod when you sync.
So, assuming what you want is to create (and maybe sort) a list, based on the songs you have rated highest...
    In iTunes, select
menu bar -> File -> New Smart Playlist
In the Smart Playlist editing window, check +Match the following rule+ and make the rule
    Rating is *five stars*
or if you want four and five stars
Rating is in the range *four stars* to *five stars*
or if you want any song that you have rated
Rating is greater than *zero stars*
or any way you desire, so that the songs you want are selected based on ratings. If you want to do something more complex, you can add a second rule by clicking on the plus sign.
Leave the other settings as they are, unless you want to do something like limit the number of songs on the playlist.
After setting up the Smart Playlist, if you want to sort it based on ratings, so that the 5 stars are at the top (for example), make sure Ratings is one of the columns in the playlist's list view (add it if it is not one of the columns), and click the Ratings column heading to sort by ratings.
Then sync the iPod to get this playlist on your iPod. The playlist will show up under Music -> Playlists. Note: Smart Playlists just act like regular playlists on the iPod, so if you change a song's rating on the iPod, the playlist will not get updated until you sync the iPod to the computer and that rating is updated in your iTunes library.

  • Grid View  - Weird album behavior

    Hi,
whenever i try to play an album throught the Grid View using the "play album" or "play" button (on album rollover), it plays the first song and stops.
Actually i realised that if i go inside the album(double-click), the album is sorted by song order, but inverted (last top). Even if i put it back to normal song order sorting, it oftens mess up and stop at the end of fist song. Then sometimes if i try another song ( say 3rd one ), it will skip to the previous (2nd). Like if it didn't understood my resorting.
Last, even if i put it back to standard song order sorting, go out to grid view and "play album" from there it does it again, inverting the sorting.
Looks like Grid View is acting strange.
I'm starting to think that's because i imported my library from my old Mac wich had an old Itunes.
    any help?
    Jeff

    wow.
well i just found the solution to my problem. Well i found the cause, not a solution really. All this problem seems related to the fact that i had my albums sorted by Ratings. If i sort them back by artist, it's all good!!
This is really frustrating, come on, this isn't suppose to pass Q.A. tests.
Even more, if i sort them in descending order instead of ascending, it works, but i got my favorite albums on the bottom.. i guess it's a work around.
Now also.. why did they put ratings but no options to filter by ratings? and where are Smart Playlists? Go Itunes, be more Iphoto! :P

  • Unexpected Grid View behavior?

    Hi All,
Here is a situation I came across, that was quite unexpected compared to the behaviour in iTunes 7.
Suppose I have a playlist with multiple artists/albums. I have this playlist in Grid View. I choose this playlist from the left side navigation tree and press the play button. This playlist is set to shuffle by songs. I expect it to play a song and jump to the next song. iTunes 8 would just keep playing the same songs in the first album listed in the Grid View and would not jump to any other.
    http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/4726/itunes20080910191124oh2.jpg
In this screenshot above, it will keep the songs in "The Very Best Of". If I press Ctrl+L (show now playing) then it would show only the songs in this album. This quite explains why it doesn't play other songs.
To explain a bit more on what's happening:
If I go to List View the song now playing does not have the Now Playing icon:
    http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/1113/itunes20080910191500vf3.jpg
Notice it is playing "Opa Opa" but in the List View, it doesn't show it.
This is because in Grid View if you play a song from the playlist, it has its own "virtual playlist"
    http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/5269/itunes20080910191525wl1.png
Notice the now playing icon there.
    Why is this the case?
I hope you guys understood what I was trying to explain.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

  • How to see top liked content for different period?

On any space you can only see top liked content for one month. What if I want to see top liked content for whole year or for 2 years?
Is there any option where I can choose?
Some contents are very useful but they got lost in all other discussions.

You can't do this in the space's content tab other than scrolling through and looking for the content items with the most likes.  What you'll have to do is use an alternative site search engine SCN has and then sort the content by likes.
    Go to http://scn.sap.com/search.jspa
Search for sap (there's no search wildcard available but "sap" appears on just about all SCN content, so does "a")
Then select Sort by = Likes
    Other filters:
The default is anytime (all time) but you can narrow this down to past day, week, month or year. However, the total number of all time likes will always be displayed!
Search withing specific spaces ("Restrict to a Group or Space:") and content type ("What:")
You can also sort by ratings
For examples, here's a query for the most likes blog posts in About SCN over the past month: http://scn.sap.com/search.jspa?view=content&resultTypes=blogpost&dateRange=last30days&q=sap&rankBy=likes&contentType=blo…

  • ITunes MASTER Library scenario?  Possible?

My iTunes world is in need of an overhaul. Hopefully someone can help?
I've got a MBPro laptop with 30gb of music that has been my main library- iPod for portable stuff, all pretty simple. Now, I need to grow to allow for a family setup- however, I want it all controlled from 1 source.
After reading through many posts here, I still can't find my answer to the setup I would like to have. Close but not quite there.
    Is this possible:
    1) Want to move all my iTunes library to 1 external hard drive. This will become the MASTER library for the house. However... I do not want to have this hard drive on at all times. Only when adding to library or consolidating media.
    2) Would love to have individual iTunes libraries based on user preference on different computers (3) with all media coming from the MASTER library. (understanding you have 5 authorized users...) These media files would be copied to the individual computers- not just the artwork. This way a laptop could still listen to something when not attached to the MASTER hard drive, without having ALL the media from the MASTER drive.
    3) If any user add's the their individual library (iTunes purchase or imported CD) then a "consolidate" function would copy that new media to the MASTER library for everyone to be able to access. (once they updated their list)
That's it. Is this asking to much?
Any suggestions would be most appreciated! Thanks!
    Alex

Thanks for the tip christopher... I tried this and I believe this will work for me in the meantime...
You loose ratings on the transfer, but I believe I've got a solid work-around. I'll sort by ratings and transfer songs/artists as desired to a playlist. Then transfer all the playlists I create to the new iTunes folder one at a time so I can re-rate songs as a group. Seems to be working well.
FYI, do not click on the consolidate music after the new transfer unless you want to undue all the work already completed. So.... anyone on my make-shift "Family" iTunes MASTER library file that wants to share new media (purchased/burned) to other users will have to do it on the MASTER eHD. Consolidate function would make things easier for sure but could lead to a lot of busy work each time...
Will keep looking for another solution...

  • What type of AC adapter for taking U.S. MBP to Europe???

Has anyone in the U.S. taken their MBPro to Europe and used an AC adapter to plug it in there?? I'll be gone for 3 weeks and my battery has just crapped out on me, with not enough time to ship it for a replacement before I leave, so I'll need to plug it in to work while I'm there. But I'm terrified of getting the wrong kind of adapter and frying this expensive monster, not to mention all my data. Can anyone point me to some specific products that would work specifically with a Macbook Pro?? It's my understanding that I do NOT need a converter or a transformer, just plug adapters, but do I need to look for something that will work specifically with my laptop, and what sort of ratings should I look for to be completely safe? I'm using the cord and charger that came with the laptop. Thanks for any help!

Does the adapter need to provide a real ground? My son is taking his to Italy for a semester, but will be traveling around Europe. I found one grounded adapter for Italy (and only Italy - it has three round posts in a row), but everything I've looked at doesn't provide a ground (there's a spot to accept it, but it's a dummy). Since his MBP is the only electronic item any of us have that has a 3-prong plug (we have two Windows laptops that only have 2 prongs), I'm not sure if this is just a "just in case" thing or if it's really needed.
