Sort emails by count

Emails now are grouped by sender, and when you have 6771 emails besides spam, you realize you got there because you were never able to find a pattern to clean them, i.e. who are sending you so many emails without you actually realizing it (maybe every other day, or because the rest of the garbage hides it in the sea of emails)
Going through the whole list to find the biggest groups is still a lot of work.
How do I sort the messages by sender count?
Another useful thing would be to add the count to some rule… so if a GOOD sender reaches certain amount, it should be easy to consider it spammer.
Any plugin? script? something?

How do I sort emails? Sender, date

Yep, it should be simple.  But its crap.  I will sort in the sequence you want, but only up to a certain number of messages.  If, like me, you have a lot of messages, you will get the unread messages and then a set of messages sorted by date, and then random messages.  Best thing to do is look through your messages and take a rough count of how many are sorted before the random dates appear and move the rest of the messages into an archive folder.
I guess the application has a limited buffer size and can't sort more than a certain number of messages.  I am afraid poor old Mac OS/X is showing the signs of resource depletion due to the success of IOS...  iWork 2013 anyone?

  • Sort email by name

Is there a way to sort email by name on the iPad2?

There is no way to sort email in any fashion using the built in mail app on the iPad. There may be third party mail apps that let you do that, but I don't use any at all so you would have to search for one.
I stand corrected about email not being able to be sorted in any fashion as KP has pointed out - by thread but I didn't get the sense that is what you were really looking for.

  • TS3899 iOS 7: sort email by most recent date?  Beyond frustrating.

iOS 7: sort email by most recent date?  Beyond frustrating.

Agree. Mail search results are nearly useless, sorted in effectively random order. Major Apple FAIL.
Removing the other search buttons (from, subject, etc.) is also frustrating. Went from one-click simplicity to having to type in 'from:'.  Serious inconvenience.  Completely failed the WWSS (What would Steve Say?) test.

  • Feature request: Select emails by count-from-sender

Please allow me to select emails by count? e.g. indexing all the senders and counting the emails received from each.
    Here's how that would help:
When it comes to free up a few Gigs of space in disk and improve Mail's performance, selecting thousands of emails from a few big senders is more effective than attempting the crazy task of bothering ourselves with finding just undreds of emails from hundreds of small senders!
Most of the emails we'd like to be able to handle without deleting them nor letting them to fall into the spam filter's claws, are the ones we ACTUALLY suscribed to, but never had the time to recover the password, login to them, update the email preferences (most times tricky or falsely advertised as "editable", or just impossible)… a total mission certainly harder than just leting them come, and some day delete them all. After all, It's easy: selecting ALL the emails from facebook, hit delete. Done.
Now multiply that for tens of big senders, and it's a pain.
I want to select the emails by COUNT BY SENDER, and be able to slide up or down the threshold to select them.
Slide to the left, and all emails from senders with at least 2 emails sent will be selected.
Slide to the right and only emails from senders with e.g. 10 emails sent would be selected.
( Read or unread would be a good extra criteria )
That way, I don't need to go through the hundreds of small senders and wear out my brain thinking one by one whether to delete it or not, for what? to delete just a few hundred emails an hour!.
This way I can go through a few giants, and delete thousands at once.
Or is ther a way to do it (script? add-on? rule?) and I didn't find it?

  • Sort emails by 'Starred' etc

Since the recent email 'up'grade I can no longer sort emails by eg Starred. If I select this function via square icon towards top left of page all starred emails are highlighted. But they are not grouped together at the top of the folder as previously. Anyone know how to get back to the old system?
[Although I have now resolved some of the other problems arising from the usual chaos following a so called upgrade I have lost a significant amount of time doing so. I can not believe this is necessary. Why fix something that is not broken? Why not test before roll out? Surely these are not difficult concepts.]

I don't think you can do that in the Apple app, but maybe if you open up safari & log into whatever mail server (AOL, Yahoo, etc) and you can do it from there.

Have iMac with IMAP email, 3rd party.  Use a rule to sort emails into various boxes. One box does not appear on Mail in new iPhone 5C. Emails sorted into that box are also missing. Any suggestions?

In which this just gets weirder and weirder...
I logged onto iCloud.com, signed into my account and created a rule there that emails from my husband's address should be allowed into the inbox. I sent another test msg from him to me and got the New Mail notification sound, the new mail showed up but in a flash disappeared. This happened in the space of about 3 seconds.
Messages from his email address are not even showing up in the Trash folder. WTH?

  • Cannot sort emails sent from Mail App and Exchange

When trying to sort emails on Outlook in Windows, lets say by "Flag", emails coming from a mac using mail app and exchange get placed at the top of the list.
Have tried sending emails from the same account via webmail and iphone and they get sorted correctly.
    Anyone has had this problem?

    So, Here's what happens:
    1) Send email from Laptop (Snow Leopard) with Exchange Integration
    2) Send email from iPhone (3.1) with Exchange Integration
In Outlook 2003 sort by flag (neither of these messages are flagged). Any email sent from the Snow Leopard is sorted first in the Unflagged category in Outlook. Any of the email sent from the iPhone is sorted normally.
There's no differences in the headers to cause these to sort differently. The only headers that differ are the Date, Subject/Thread-Topic, Thread-Index, Message-ID, x-ems-stamp. But, in the Message-ID it has the same domain.
Both Snow Leopard and iPhone are configured to use the same Exchange OWA/OWS.

  • How do yo clear the email inbox counter?

My email inbox counter shows one unread message even though there are no messages in the inbox. Everything has been deleted from the server(Yahoo) but iPhone 3G ver 3.0 still indicates one unread message. Anyone else having this problem? Any idea on how to clear it?

I have tried both shutting down and a hard reset. I have also tried deleting the email account followed by a hard reset and adding the account again. Anyone have any other thoughts?

  • Iphone shuts down when trying to sort email into folder.

When I click on a specific email and try to sort it into one of my folders on my phone, the email program shuts down and goes back to the home screen.
I did a hard reset and checked for updates for the iphone.  It was working yesterday and now it's not!
Also having trouble with my calendar disappearing and reappearing, and some of the events I had put in there, are not there anymore.  But that's another issue!
    Thanks in advance.

Am I the only one having troubles with Apple Mail?
As I said, when I go to open an email that has a movie (.wmv) attached it shuts mail down. Must be a record if I am the only one encountering this problem.
    Any one? Any ideas?

  • Sorting emails by columns and moving to specific letter finds letter in different column

I am running Mail (v 4.5) on a MacBook Pro 2.8 GHz Core 2 Duo with Snow Leopard 10.6.7.
Issue: In Mail, if I sort the list of emails in the Inbox by Date it goes correctly from Most Recent to oldest. If I press a number to get to the month, the list goes to the first email it finds with that number at the beginning of the Subject line. It doesn't change the sort however. If I click on the From header to sort by that field and type a letter for the first letter of the Sender's name, I likewise go to the first corresponding letter in the Subject field. If I click on the Subject header to sort by that and then type a letter to find subjects beginning with that letter, it goes to the first corresponding letter in the From column. If I press the letter again, it goes to another selection.
If one sorts by From and press the letter N, then one should move to a point in the list at the beginning of senders beginning with the letter N with the list ordered alphabetically by Sender.
Is there no resolution planned from Apple to this issue.? I have found posts relating to it (see below) going back several years.
I have searched for a solution to this issue but only find an archived discussion regarding this at the following url. It has only 6 posts with over 1500 views; but I don't see a resolution.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/11879483#11879483

Mail doesn't just search the column you have selected when you type. It searches everywhere. If you want to search for emails from Ned, then type 'ned.'
If you want to restrict the search to From, To, or Subject, use the search field.
I don't imagine Apple will change the way this works, but you can provide feedback on Mail in the Mail menu.

  • Is it possible to sort by word count

I have a list of titles and wish to arrange them by the number of words in each title, any suggestions gratefully received

    Hi FF,
Word processing applications usually define a 'word' as a group of characters followed by a space (or a return).
I haven't foud a way to directly count the number of spaces in a string of text, but Numbers does support FIND() which can determine the position of a specific character's first appearance in a string or after a specified position in a string.
That's the method used in the coloured cells of the table below.
    C2: =IFERROR(FIND(" ",$B,1+MAX($B2:B2)),"")
Fill right for as many cells as there are words in the 'longest' title.
Fill down to the end of the table.
A count of the cells containing numbers in the row (not including the cell in A, which must be a Header column) will give the number of spaces in the title. Add 1 for the number of words in the title.
    A2: =IF(LEN(B)>0,COUNTIF(2:2,">0")+1,"")
Fill down to the last row in the table.
Sort on column A to arrange the titles by length in words.
Note the results in rows 5 and 6.
Row 5 contains the title of Paul Zindel's 1964 play as he wrote it. Man-in-the-Moon is considered as a single word in the count.
Row 6 contains the same title with the hyphens replaced by spaces. Man in the Moon now counts as 4 words.
    Rows 7 and 8:
George Orwell's title is read as a number. As it's greater than 0, the number is included in the count. 1 is added to account for there being no space after the 'last word' in the title to give a count of 2. (Result is the same when the title is entered as '1984 (the leading ' tells Numbers, and other spreadsheets, to format the cell as text), of when the cell's format is set to Text using the Inspector.)
In row 8, 1984 is enclosed in quotation marks, and is now treated as text (with a numerical value of zero).
As noted, the columns doing the calculations may be hidden.
    Regards,
    Barry
