Sort Faces in Aperture 3

Sorry, my english is not good. my Topic to german.
MfG
F.-K.

Right-click a face in Faces view and select "Sort by Name".
NB: Selecting "Sort Manually" after sorting by name DOES NOT effect (as in "make to happen") the previous manual sort. Sorting by name clears your current manual sort, and that sort can not be recovered.

  • Won't sort faces

    Hello,
So I've downloaded Photos. I do not have the ability to sort Faces by name. There is an option to "Sort by Date" but this is ghosted out, and automatically ON so I can't change it. Anyone know a way around this?

There's a slight oversight in your analogy. In iTunes, you can turn shuffle off. And you are free to sort your songs any way you wish.
Additionally, in iPhoto, you could also sort Faces using different criteria. Why change now.

This user has found a "hack" to turn off faces.  Several users have reported success with the method.  I can't comfirm the method as I've not used it.  Use at your own risk.

Re: Iphoto 11 -How to turn off faces?

    Start of solution:
I did some digging in the prefs of iPhoto and found out the following. This is how you can disable (turn off) Face detection, without deleting faces found so far (just in case you want to restart processing at another time):
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Open Terminal Application (Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app)
    3. Type the following (exactly as is):
    defaults write com.apple.iPhoto PKFaceDetectionEnabled 0
    (then return)
    4. - Start iPhoto - Faces stops getting on your nerves...
If you ever need to re-enable faces, just do the same again and replace the 0 with 1.

  • Is there anyway to sort faces Alphabetically in "Photos"

Is there any way to Sort Faces alphabetically in "Photos"

No, only by dragging the faces manually into the alphabetical order on the Faces tile. The are sorted by the most frequent use.

  • How to reassign faces in aperture?

I accidentally assigned a person's photo to the wrong face in aperture and now I cannot figure out how to reassign. Please help!

To change just one Face Label mis-assigned to a Postitioning Box:
To rename a person in an image
Select an image containing the face of a person you want to rename.
Click the Name button in the toolbar.
Select the face label for the person whose name you want to change, and enter a new name in the text field.
This is from the on-line Aperture User Manual, which is better than most, and well-worth getting familiar with.
Feel free to ask here as well .

  • Iphoto to Aperture:  keywords from iPhoto to Faces in Aperture?

My 10k photo's in iPhoto were keyworded by peoples names...Is there any way to bulk "name" these keyworded photo's in faces in Aperture. I can group all the photo's together, but I can't figure out how to bulk name them. Please tell me there is an easy way of doing this! My kids all look the same- I can barely tell them apart, so Faces definitely can't!

    iPhoto to Aperture:
In Aperture use the File -> Import -> iPhoto Library
File -> Import -> Show iPhoto Browser
Use the first to get the entire Library, the second to get selected elements.
    Aperture to iPhoto
Create an Export Preset in Aperture and be sure to include the metadata. Export from Aperture to the Finder, import into iPhoto.
You can, of course, access your Aperture Previews with the File -> Show Aperture Library command, but this doesn't get the metadata.
As you can see there is considerable work gone into the notion of migrating from iPhoto to Aperture. There is no work going the other way. Little thought has been given to using both together, as it doesn't make a lot of sense to.

  • Sorting albums in Aperture

    Hi,
I am trying to figure out why Aperture always starts sorting an album on "Manual" by default? Is it possibel to save another default for sorting? If so, where? I can get it to sort the main folders (Projects) by name and the sub-folders (Albums) by name, but the individual files/photos are always first sorted by "Manual". I can go into every folder and set it to sort by File name, but I would prefer not having to do that.....
    Thanks,
    Soren

  • Sorting In the Aperture library entitled "Photos"

In the Aperture library entitled "Photos", is there an easy way that I can I sort all the photos according to the chronological order in which they were taken?

If you select "Photos"  in the Library and set the Browser to "Split View",  you can sort the images by Date. Set the Selector on top of the film strip to "Date Ascending" or "Date Descending", like this:
This will sort them by capture date.

  • How can I sort faces by alphabetically?

I have more than 1000 faces in Photos. It is a nightmare to find one in the faces screen for editing, mixing or renaming purposes. In iPhoto faces were sorted alphabetically.

NO sorting in this 1.0 version of Photos.
You can request features, point out bugs, etc, at Apple Feedback pages.
    Or directly for Photos.

  • Can I sync specific faces from Aperture 3 to Apple TV?

iPhoto '09 allows you to pick specific Faces (in addition to albums) to sync with Apple TV. Can Aperture 3 do this?

Would you perhaps get the same functionality if you created a Smart Album?
For example, set the basic rule to +Face <includes> Chartier+ to get all photos in which you'd identified yourself or, say, members of your family. You could, of course, add a lot of refinement to the album's filter.
I don't have an Apple TV with which to directly test this, but looking at the Media browser in Keynote shows the test Smart Album I just tried, so I think it probably should work...

  • Migrating iphoto 9 with duplicate misplace FACES into Aperture 3

After importing my iphoto library all the originals and modified photos are changed into stacks. The program creates faces for both the modified and the original image. The huge problem is that if my modified image was cropped all the face rectangles are shifted. Thus not only do i get duplicate faces and unneeded photos but the duplicate faces are not even correctly labeled.

    Allan,
When you import the default will probably be to store the photos in Aperture's library. This will make a copy of your photos and is called "Managed masters" in Aperture. As long as this what happens when you import, you will then definitely have 2 of each photo that you imported. It's not going to duplicate your iPhoto library per se (the library is a database that contains all the pictures and other goodies). Rather, it will copy each photo from your iPhoto library into a new library (the Aperture one).
You can also have Aperture use "Referenced" masters, by doing what gordonbmac indicated. In this case, Aperture does not manage the location of your masters. They will be wherever iPhoto has them. This may or may not be good depending on what you are going to do with your iPhoto library after. I.e., if you play with iPhoto and rearrange things, Aperture doesn't know that you moved the masters that it points to. It may mean that you will have to keep your iPhoto library around because Aperture is pointing to photos in it.
Your plan to move the iPhoto library to an external hard drive is exactly what I did when I imported my iPhoto library into Aperture. I kept it around for quite a while until I was satisfied that I didn't accidentally leave something in there that I didn't import into Aperture.

  • Help! We've lost all our families 'Faces' in Aperture, can you help?

    Can You help us please?
I've just upgraded OSX to 10.8.2 & noticed Aperture playing up-so I upgraded Aperture to 3.4 hoping it would start playling nice again, but now I've lost all my family pics tagged in 'Faces' It's taken me over a year to organise quiet a few thousand of all our famlily pics, can anyone help please? Any light shed on the subject would be much apppreiciated.
    Thank you kindly,
    Wayne & Family. :-) XXX

do you know of a way I can reduce it's size?
Wayne, when you relocate (all or some of) the originals to an external volume, the library on your MBA will shrink considerably. But there is no way in Aperture to delete the originals completely.
I am nor sure, how familiar you are with the organisation of the Aperture library. Other than in previous versions of iPhoto, Aperture never actually renders an edited image. It just writes textual comments on how to render the edited versions, if you want to export your image. In the library are just your originals and instructions on how to produce an edited version, if the image is needed. This makes it easy to undo edits and to create several edited versions of the same image, without using much additional space. So if you remove the originals, your images are lost. The referenced library is a neat way to get the originals from your system volume, until they are needed.
    Other options:
Don't import raw+jpeg pair, if you are shooting raw, raw should suffice.
Rigorously weed out your library and delete duplicate or redundant images
Render only small preview images, or none at all, but then you cannot share your images with the Media Browser, and some operations will be slower.

  • Sorting Faces by number of photos

Hey fellow Mac people, this is my first question (yay!),
I've started using Faces alot, I found it really useful and just fun to look through the photos of certain people. Just wondering if anyone knows how to sort the People by the number of photos of them there are? Possibly a script or something if its not in the app?
    Thanks alot!
    Nailz

The only way to do what you want is to sort them Manually - drag them to the order you want.

  • Faces in aperture

Hi! I have seen that iPhoto recognizes faces. I use aperture for work, but also for personal photos.
    Aperture may do that?

It may, at some point in the future, but it doesn’t now.

  • How to keep my iPhoto '11 Faces in Aperture?

I identified all the Faces in iPhoto'11 and when I imported the iPhoto Libary into Aperture 3.1.3 all faces displayed correctly in the Aperture Faces library category.  However, if I later delete the iPhoto imported library (there are many duplicates in the two libraries), all the faces disappear in Aperture.  It seems no matter what approach I take (create a new Aperture Library, import iPhoto library into it then merge with my Original Aperture Library) I still end up with a bloated Aperture Library containing the iPhoto Library and when I delete the iPhoto library all faces are gone.
It seems there should be an easy solution to retain the Faces, but I cannot find it in the discussion forums.  Thanks, in advance, for any solution to this problem.

Tnxs. As regarding buying software, I am sorry but I did a mistake w another post where I was wondering about Pages and other preinstalled softwares that are not available to me through AppStore, since AppStore was not existing at the time... just forget it...
Since you are so expert about iPhoto, could you please tell me the following 2 issue I have since I switched (today...) from referenced to imported photo?
    1) I imported almost 21Gb of photos. Now, the iPhoto Library is about 7Gb... If I am not wrong, this means that iPhoto's photos are not all stored in iPhoto Library but somewhere else... if I am correct, where??
    2) Before abandoning referenced photos, I was synching my iPhoto library with iPhone and iPad by selecting photos which were already hardly modified, i.e. files of photo already modified. Now, as you say, I have the nice option to modify photos on iPhoto and be able to go back to the original photo if needed. Unfortunatly I had the bad surprise that after synchronization with my iOS devices, all the photos I have on them are the original one and no of them is containing any modification..... Of course there is something I am missing since this is not making any sense... but I cannot find the right way... Any help?? tnxs...
    Cheers,
    L.
