Sort "Group by Year" question

Hi,
I use Aperture 3.1.1 and have added a project which contains pictures from 2010 and 2011. I have the option "Group by year" enabled and display "newest first". Usually Aperture sorts every project which contains two years above the oldest year. So it should be sorted like:
2011
2010-2011
2010
2009
2008
2007-2008
2007
However Aperture sorts as follows:
2011
2010
2010-2011
2009
2008
2007-2008
2007
Did I miss a setting here?
Any ideas on how to fix it so I would get displayed as the first example?
Thanks a lot,
Joern

An easy one to try:
Create a new, empty Project. Give it a very simple name. Select all the images in the problem Project and move them to the new Project. Delete the old Project. Go to Project view and try the "group by year", "sort by date" again.
If it fails, try it again with a subset of the images to see if it is an image that is causing the problem.
You could also rebuild your Library. This is the last step in the progression "Repair permissions", "Repair Library", "Rebuild Library". For a large Library this will take hours.

  • Report not grouping by year

    Hi
I have a report that is grouping by month but not year and I can't see why.
    I run the below query:
    select count(case when report_base = 2 then 1 end) as 'Base 1',
    count(case when report_base = 4 then 1 end) as 'Base 2',
    count(case when report_base = 5 then 1 end) as 'Base 3',
    month(Report_Date) as Month,
    year(Report_Date) as Year
    from [dbo].[SRF_Data]
    where Report_Date >= dateadd(month, datediff(month, 0, getDate()) -12, 0)
    group by year(Report_Date),month(Report_Date)
    And get the results below:
When I put this into a report and run it the report shows broken down by month (it shows a 13 as well?) but not year. It is grouping the results for 2015 in with 2014. The X axis is set to Scalar as I want to show empty months. My category groups are set
    to Year and then month.
Can someone let me know what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks.

    Hi rjp1977,
I tested the issue in my local machine, when we set Axis type to category, since there is no data for October, it will not be displayed. If we set Axis type to Scalar, October will be displayed in the chart, but the data of 2014 and 2015 will be displayed
    together by design.

  • Sorting Albums by Year

When sorting albums by year, albums with the oldest title go first. That's ridiculous because an album never could have been released before the latest title has been released. Sorting albums by the latest title track would make more sense...

I think the distinction is about which "year" is used to sort compilations/anthologies when different tracks have different dates. I suspect iTunes uses the year of the first track of the album rather than the latest value across all tracks which might make better sense. iTunes supports only the single year value rather than extended year & time (date) for the original recording & the release in question. Including these would enable iTunes to sort correctly when an artist releases more than one album in the same year.

  • Sorting /Grouping Issue: Single Artist Compilation Album Doesn't Group

iTunes 8 Sorting / Grouping Issue
    EXAMPLE
    • Album: Essential Willie Nelson
    • There are 22 songs on this Disc
    • 19 of them are labelled "Willie Nelson" in the artist field
    • 3 of them are lebelled "Willie Nelson Feat. Waylon Jennings" in the artist field
    PROBLEM
    • Album will not stay grouped together when in the standard "Sort by Artist" in Grid View. A very legitimate expectation to be able to have Willie's name listed along with his pals in the artist field and have them grouped together in one album within Willie's albums section. 19 songs group within one album in the Willie Nelson section and the other 3 are placed separately either in the compilation section or as separate albums within the regular artists grid view.
I've read most if not all postings that suggest solutions but no matter what... they don't work. The only way that I know to work is to strip out all other names and leave only "Willie Nelson" in the Artist field. All other sorting and grouping options don't work for this issue... I've tied every combination. My opinion is that this is just a limitation at this time and there is no solution until future updates. I don't want a cheezy work-around either, that's very "unApple like". I assume it to be fixed in future updates.
    Bueller... Bueller?
    Anyone?

There's a few other "goodies" I have found also but haven't had time to check out.
If you have songs not in iTunes that you want to add to iTunes in a different format than the song is in...
(This is carried over from at least 7.4)
Set the Importing prefs to what you want the new file to be.
Hold the Option key and go to menu Advanced and select *Convert selection to* AAC (or whatever is in the Import prefs}.
This will add it to iTunes in the new format.
Previously, you had to Import the file, change the prefs, go to Advanced - *Convert selection to*, convert the file, then delete the original from iTunes.
    This is new...
In iTunes 8, go to to File - > *Show duplicates*. (moved from View menu).
Now hold Option and go to to File and it now displays *Show exact duplicates*.
Don't know what it means by *exact duplicate* though.

after adding a Child Group to the parent Group the Child Groups are not sorted. So
how to get the sorted list when any child group is added to a parent group. In
which class we have to make the changes to get the sorted group.

    Hi  Manorama,
    1) If you have already created a portal system as mentioned in following blog
                  /people/marcel.salein/blog/2007/03/14/how-to-create-a-portal-system-for-using-it-in-visual-composer
    2) If not, then try to create the same. Do not forgot to give the Alias name .
    3) After creating a system, log on to the VC, Create one iView.
    4) Now Click on "Find Data" button from the list which you can view in right side to Visual composer screen.
    5) After clicking on "Find Data" button, it will ask for System. If you have created your system correctly and Alias name is given properly, then your mentioned Alias name is appeared in that list.
    6) Select your system Alias name and perform search.
    7) It will display all the BAPIs and RFCs in your systems.
    8) Select required BAPI and develop the VC application.
Please let me know if you any further problems.
    Thanks,

  • Renaming image files & years question

    hello
how do i change the name of image files? i know how to change the title, but can i change the actual name of the file?
when i transferred my photos from a previous computer, iPhoto sorted them into years. how does iPhoto sort them...is it by date created, modified, etc? can i manipulate iPhoto to put photos in a certain year?
    Thanks!

    pogi6247
Do you want to change the name so that the file is easier to find?
There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • How to sum time values sorted by month/year?

I would like to sum time values that are sorted by month/year. (Concept is based on a pilot's logbook)
In Table 1, Column A is a date; Column B is the associated time value (duration).
In Table 2, I would like to Sum the time value of Table 1 Column B by month an year.
    TABLE 1
    Date
    Time
    Header 3
    Jan 1, 2013
    2:30
    Jan 3, 2013

    Jan 9, 2013
    3:55
    Feb 2, 2013
    5:01
    Feb 10, 2013
    1:33
    March 3, 2013
    5:55
    TABLE 2
    Month/YR
    Total Time
    Header 3
    Jan-13
    10:40
    Feb-13
    6:34
    Mar-13
    5:55
    Apr-13

    smash,
Here's an example of what can be done:
The formula in the Total column of Summary is:
    =SUMIFS(Log :: B, Log :: A, ">="&A, Log :: A, "<"&EOMONTH(A, 0)+1)
The Month column of Summary is filled with a series of dates that can be formatted as Jan-13, etc, if you wish.
I used the 0h 0m format for the Durations to distinguish it from times.

Can anyone please explain how does Hash GROUP BY And Sort GROUP BY exactly work ?
    Thank you.

As the name suggests, SORT GROUP BY achieves the same goal by sorting.According to Tom SORT GROUP BY doesn't always sort correctly .. tried to understand his explanation as he said "It always did a BINARY SORT - not a character set sort. So the data would be sorted incorrectly if you use anything but very simple ASCII strings..."
can you give me an example where binary value of a string A is greater than string B while ascii value of string B is greater than string A ?

  • Sorting albums by year doesn't work properly in new iTunes 11.

Sorting albums by year doesn't work properly in new iTunes 11.
    See the screenshots below.
There's a kind of albums. Double CD in one set. Queen "The Works" 1984, for example.
First CD is the original release and the second one is bonus CD for the original album's reissue in 2011.
iTunes 10 took year info from track 1 of CD1 for "sort album by year" function.
But new iTunes 11 takes the highest value of year in the album's track list.
Same things with additional bonus tracks for the album's reissues.
See the screenshot of Madonna "Like a Virgin" 1984 album.
So my collection is in a huge mess after last update to iTunes 11.
It's a big problem. And must be solved to the next update.

I noticed this too, and I think it gets even more complicated when you think about the difference between how you want Re-releases to be ordered: based upon the intial release year (like you have described above), and Compilations or Greatest Hits: where you want them to be sorted by when the albums were actually released. iTunes 11 seems to just grab the date of the most recently released song on an album. This worked fine for 2/3 of my Compilation albums, because they just happened to be released the same year as the latest song on each album.
Compilation example (released: 2003, latest song on album: 1969):
This is what I submitted to Apple as feedback:
This issue is actually aimed at  iTunes 11, but 10.6.3 is the most recent version number I could select in the drop-down menu.
As with normal albums, iTunes 11 puts a release year next to "Various Artists" in Albums > Expanded View (and also in the Songs and Genre Tabs). However, iTunes seems to produce this number by looking for the last released song on the album. This has worked fine for 2/3 of my compilations, but the third one is a 60s compilation released in 2003. It displays "1969" next to "Various Artists" and there are no tags available in Get Info to change this. This also happens to greatest hits collections.
When selecting View > View Options > "Artist" then "Year" in Album view, and View > View Options > "Year" in Artist and Genre view, the above issue causes compilations, greatest hits collections, and re-releases (Although users may want re-releases to be listed in order of original release) to be sorted in the wrong order.
Considering iTunes 11 has added this feature (in previous iTunes versions, "Year" would only appear next to individual tracks), it is a shame an "Album Year" or "Sort Album Year" hasn't been added to the Get Info options.
As is, the only solution I can think of is to change all track years to the release year of the album.
I imagine this might be a bit of an edge case, and not something the majority of iTunes users would care about, but then again, I could imagine a fair number of musicphiles wanting control over this metadata.

  • ALV sort/group disfunction ?!

    Hi there,
I'm a bit helpless because of the sort/group function my ALV should do. Current situation is that I'm using an CL_GUI_ALV_GRID.
    CALL METHOD gr_config_alv_1_2->set_table_for_first_display
        EXPORTING
          is_layout                     = ls_layout
        CHANGING
          it_sort                       = sort_table
          it_outtab                     = config_1_2_table
          it_fieldcatalog               = cat_config_fieldcat_alv
        EXCEPTIONS
          invalid_parameter_combination = 1
          program_error                 = 2
          too_many_lines                = 3.
      IF sy-subrc <> 0.
        EXIT.
      ENDIF.
So you can see that I'm using it_sort to tell the ALV how to sort the it_outtab. [Result looks like this|http://fabianvogt.com/alv_1.jpg].
What the it_sort does is sorting the it_outtab ASCENDING for the coloum "GRP" (display-name: "Bezugstyp"). So far so good...But I know that CL_GUI_ALV_GRID normally does some kind of grouping by merging cells with the same content. [This would look like that|http://fabianvogt.com/alv_2.jpg].
In my case it does not work and I don't have any idea why. I searched the CLASS for a hint or maybe an attribute which has to be filled/flagged to do this kind of grouping.
    Looking forword to your help!

    Hi everyone!
I've checked BCALV_TEST_GRID. Basically they do it the same way I'm trying. I found out that I have the possibility to set ls_layout-no_merging to control, whether cells with the same content are merged or not. By default no_merging is set SPACE, so the cells should be merged - NOT in my case.
Even if I set no_merging  =  '  ' (SPACE) manually, the merging won't be done.
    Running out ouf ideas ...
    NEWS:
I did some kind of a workaround, in my opinion even a nicer way to realize my purpose. So take a look at what I did right now:
(take a look at the screenshots in my previous posts for your better understanding)
    - The old 'GRP' field (old content: 'B',' K', 'M') is now filled with 'Belegbezug', 'Kundenbezug', 'Materialbezug' and is set NO_OUT (fieldcatalogue).
    - I insterted a field called 'CNT' type I, which i use to create Totals/Subtotals.
    - NO_TOTLINE  = 'X' (Layout) --> total line is not shown; only subtotals
    - TOTALS_BEF (Layout) --> subtotals are placed on top
[So this is what I got now|http://fabianvogt.com/alv3.jpg]. Much better than before!!!
My only problem is now, that the 'CNT' coloum looks pretty ugly and has no function except doing the sum thing.
I tried to make it invisible using the fieldcatalogue (NO_OUT / TECH), but then the total lines disappear :/
    Any suggestions?

  • Group by Month, Group By Year

I have a date column in my table and it looks like 2009/06/29. Is there a way I can GROUP BY MONTH and GROUP BY YEAR on this column?
Or do I have to create a YEAR column to GROUP BY YEAR, and a month column to GROUP BY MONTH?
    Thanks.

When you insert a group on date field you will be having an option in group option "The section will be printed" For each month or year. So you can select for each month or week or quarter or year.

    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/30291df2-b980-2a10-0884-839c4f7f147e
I can sort single columns, but sorting grouped columns is not possible.
    Any idea about this?
    Thanks,
    Regards,
    Yasar
