Sort images in Organizer by file name?

I'm running PSE 6 on XP.
I have a group of about 80 photos that came from scanning of a hard copy photo album. I have tagged all the pictures with a unique tag. I was wondering if I could change the 'view' of these images so that they would be displayed in Organizer by their Windows filename? This would put them in the same order as the hard copy album.
Thanks for any ideas!

fwiw, with my images in the 'Folder Location' view the photos are in order by their Windows filename. That is the same order as the hardcopy album the photos came from. So I then created a PSE Album. I selected all my photos and moved them into that album. The order of the pictures was retained in the Album. That worked out great. I wanted my PSE images to be in the same order. I thought I would do it with tags. But creating an album seems to work just fine.

  • Lightroom 5 will not sort images properly, either by file name or capture time.  How can I fix this issue?

    I am using Lightroom 5 with OSX 10.9.2 and the sorting feature is not working properly.  When I try to sort my library by file name or capture time, it does not sort properly.  The order of images is mixed and stays that way, even after reboot.  The file information is correct, the sorting is the only issue.  The library is approximately 6,000 images and I am also using a plug in with the Publishing Service feature.  Any help on how to fix this issue without losing my editing work done on the library would be appreciated.  Thanks! Dan

    Thanks! I'm trying to sort by capture time or file name, and neither sorts correctly.  file names 3450, 3451, etc. before files 0234, 0235, etc.  It makes no sense.  Same with capture time.  Times are accurate in meta data, but sorting is just wrong.  I'm using a ShootProof plug in that is only used for uploading files to the web. The issue is in the main library folder, so I'm not sure the plugin has anything to do with it.  Any sort I seem to choose: capture time ascending order, file name descending order, whatever, yields a different yet inaccurate sort.  The below sort is flagged, by file name ascending order.  This is the bottom of the list where it goes from file brigitte_terry_w6408... to brigitte_terry_film_0039... to brigitte_terry_w2825...  Regardless of the 'film' file, the w2825... files should be displayed above w6408.  Thanks for any help!

    In bridge am I able to return my images to their original file name?

    yes/no.  Depends on whether you have checked "preserve original file name in XMP" in batch rename.

    how can I view information about an image, such as the file name and exposure,  on the Ipad?

    You can't with the built-in Photos app, but there are apps such as iPhoto which allow you to see the exposure details (aperture, shutter speed, focal length, ISO). PhotoMeta also shows you that info

  • When creating a photo book how can I sort the photos shown by file name?

    I am creating a photo book. The photos shown in the right hand column appear out-of-order. How do I sort them by file name? The album in iPhoto the book is based on is sorted by file name.

    You can not - they are soreted by date
    --  the only solution I have seen is to put them in an album sorted the way you and and then use the batch cnage command to redate them with a small invrement between so a data sort matches your desired sort  --  I personally do not want to redate a bunch of my photos nor do i want  to have to go through and un-re- date a bunch

  • How to get my images always order by file name, and not by time of captur, in all the folders in the library?

    How to get my images always order by arquive name, and not by time of captur, in all the folders in the library?
    Sorry for the poor english, but im portugues.
    In the library we can change the order of classification of image by, time of capture, name of file etc... I'm wondering if its possible define to be always by the name of file.
    It ´s possible?
    And i have other question, in print label we have an option to auto rotate to feet in page to have the image using the maximum area in the page (auto rotate, zoom etc), its possible to change the orientation of the rotation to be always in  the other direction?

    The Muvos are USB Mass Storage devices and do not have the ability to display track information based upon ID3 tags.
    The Zens all read and display track info based upon ID3 tag information that is either gathered from an online source or entered by the end-user.
    If you want the track information displayed instead of the ID3 tag information, you could edit the ID3 tags and rename the title to whatever you have as the file name. Not sure why your file names would differ so much from the ID3 tag info though, almost all of my content has the same name for the filename as it does on the ID3 tag title.

  • The Organizer – Using file names as captions in SlideShow

    I am using Vista.
    I just switched from using ZoomBrowser to The Organizer and I have a collections of thousands of photos. In ZoomBrowser I could show the file names (which I used to describe the slide) at the bottom of the slides during a slide show. I have not found such a feature in The Organizer. Is there one?
    Otherwise, is there a method whereby I can do a batch import of the file names into the captions in the photos in The Organizer? I have the Flash Rename software which I can probably use to place the text of the file names in the Details of the Properties of the photo files.
    Please help,
    CarlosWA

    There is no similar feature in imOvie that I know of.

  • Organize by File Name

    When using Adobe Premiere Elements 2 I  organized my media with prefixes like 001, 002, 003, etc.  When I imported the media into Elements 2, the application maintained that order.  Then I was able to insert the bulk media into the Timeline.  It really worked well.
    I'm now using Premiere Elements 9 and either this application does not offer those features or I just haven't figured out how to do it.
    Does all of my organization have to take place in the Organizer or is there a way for Organizer to organize my media by the file prefix?  And can I insert mulitple still images or do they have to be inserted into the Timeline one-by-one?
    Thanks

    When you import your video into your project in version 9, it will appear in the Premiere Elements Project panel under the Organize tab.
    In the Project panel you can set your clips to display in a number of different orders, based in which column header you click, including alpha-numeric.

  • Elements Organizer 8. Alphabetic sort on file name

    I have been advised to create an Album and then select Album Order.  When I do this it still sorts in Date (Newest First) order. I have check Preferences are set to sort Albums alphabetically not manually.  Can anyone help me to get my selection sorted in alphabetic order on file name?

    Brian
    I have tried your link to the ‘feedback.photoshop.com’ thread but get a message ‘Page Not Found’.  If you do get through my comment would be as follows:
    It is sad that Organizer is not able to sort a key selection of images from multiple source files into alphabetic order by file name.  It can sort by ‘Date (Newest First)’ and ‘Date (Oldest First)’ so it should not be that hard to make it sort alphabetically.
    When images are loaded into Albums a new sort ‘Album Order’ is offered, and the wording of the ‘Options – Preferences - Keyword Tags & Albums’ for Albums, supported by the Help description, gives hope of an alphabetic sort.  However this is misleading.  It says  Alphabetic or Manual but it should say Album order or Manual.  Album order will only be alphabetic if the source images have been pre-sorted into alphabetic sequence by originating in the same folder and are then imported in Folder View.  If imported to the Album as thumbnails in Thumbnail View they will remain in the sequence of the thumbnails and even if Alphabetic is selected in the Options they will not be sorted alphabetically.
    An alphabetic sort would enhance any future release version of Optimize.
    Best wishes
    Mike

  • Is it possible to know the file name of images loaded?

    Hi:
    I have a folder containing some images named 01_image_name.jpg, 02_image_name.jpg, 03_image_name.jpg, ... wich names I read with a PHP script. Then I loop loading each image and waiting until all are loaded to display them
    1. The PHP script reads file names and returns a string with names separated by a "|" char, then I use the split method to store them in imagesNames array and sort it
    2. I loop trough imagesNames array loading images
    3. Anytime a new image arrives I push it in imagesContainer array and check if all images are loaded to show them
    The problem is there's no guarantee they arrive in the same order they were requested. So, how I sort the imagesContainer array by file name, i.e. in the same order they are in imagesNames array?
    Thanks in advance

    if you know when a new image arrives and you can retrieve that new image file name ...
    Well, that's precisely my doubt, how can I know the file name? Is there a property/method for it?
    function loadImages() {
    for (var i:int=0; i<imagesNames.length; i++) {
    var imgLoader:Loader=new Loader;
    imgLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,imgLoaded);
    imgLoader.load(new URLRequest(imgPath + imagesNames[i]));
    function imgLoaded(par:Event):void {
    trace(par.target,par.target.content,par.target.content.name);
    Output window:
    [object LoaderInfo] [object Bitmap] instance160
    [object LoaderInfo] [object Bitmap] instance159

  • How to view long file names and sort files within folders/projects?

    Hello, like so many people here, I am a new mac user, but certainly not computer illiterate. I have been a professional photographer for 10 years and recently change to mac and have been slowly trying to adapt my work flow accordingly.
    However I have become increasingly frustrated with Aperture 3 and after reading posts here it looks like I am certainly not the only person. While in my case I am sure it is because of my inexperience with mac systems so any guidance or assistance is much appreciated.
    Hopefully my questions are simple. I have been importing my images and re-naming images as I do so. A very simple combination of date, custom name, and counter. However, when I look at the images once the import has completed, they are not in any logical order within the 'project'. I have tried to sort them by file name, orientation, file size, etc, both ascending and descending, but they will not list in the correct order. eg the file '2010-03-09 Lyon France 001', continually falls between '2010-03-09 Lyon France 022' and '....021'.
    This has also lead me to a further question. While my file names can generally be read when the image is a landscape format, on the portrait images the file name it too long for me to read the whole name, and I can not find anyway to read the file name, eg browser, split screen, viewer, or full screen.
    Im sorry for all the details, and I am sure it is just my lack of experience, so appreciate your help.
    PS. On a separate note, I notice on another thread from the frustrated user 'ultratechy' that he got a reply from Tony who stated 'Also after installing any application you should always run disk utility and repair permissions....' Now as I am completely new to mac, I had no idea about this. Any other tips that I should always be aware of? Thanks again.

    Thanks for your reply Calx. If it makes you feel better, I am actually a New South Welshman - just living in the sunshine state!
    You are correct, I am trying to get my head around a new way of working and thinking, but I suppose it will all become clearer as time goes by. I have re-visited the manual many times, and been doing loads of research online, but just trying to put it all into practice now, so any tips or advice is always appreciated.
    At the moment, I am just working with a small part of my library until I do get my head around things before moving onto the bulk of my images. I have my images stored and backed up on multiple external hard drives. I am trying to import my images into aperture from an external drive as I have been slack over the years with keywording, metadata, organising, etc etc, so I figure from what I have read that aperture may assist me with making these time consuming tasks a bit quicker and easier.
    I have put a bit of thought into my filing structure, but I am sure that with further use and understanding, this may change in the future, but I hope not. To give you an example of how I am thinking and working - I have used folders for my regular clients, eg, Ray White, and then made another level of folders within 'Ray White' for the date, and then in each 'date folder' I place my projects and name them with the address of the property I have photographed. I select and edit images from each project and place them in albums under each project. Not sure if this is the most perfect structure, but any advice is welcome.
    Keywords is always an issue with me. Over the years I have compiled a number of list for each client and each 'type' of photography. For example, real estate images have there own list, I just simply manually add keywords for specific jobs, eg the address and any specific location or features.
    Again, advice and guidance always welcome and I would appreciate how you go about these topics? And maybe you can help explain something that I have pre-emted may be a problem, and it may happen when I move onto my larger library, and I am not sure how to explain this as it may show my lack of management previously. When I worked on my PC, I used PS4, Adobe Bridge and Camera RAW pretty much exclusively. For my landscape images for example, I might have 2 or 3 variations of the one images, eg, black and white, sepia, and color for instance. But the file name remained the same, I just stored them in different folders indicating what version of the image was stored there. Now I am thinking that when I import images in Aperture, I will come across difficulties because Aperture will think the I am importing duplicate images because I will in fact have 3 images with the same file name, even though the adjustments I have made to them are different. Is this the case? Will I have to make adjustments again? Will I have to change the name of the files prior to importing? If so, any advice or tips?
    Well, I should stop there. Im sorry to bombard you with some much text, but as mentioned, I am new, and finding my feet, so thanks for your time.

  • Why do the file extensions (.jpg .gif .png) no longer appear when I click on a previously saved image to use that image's file name (particularly important when saving a series of images using the same root name)?

    I save a lot of images using firefox, often times from a large batch or series of images. It used to be that I would click on a previously saved image and the entire file name including the file extension (i.e. image_example.jpg) would appear in the "save as" line. Now when I click on a previously saved file, the file name appears without the file extension (i.e. image_example). Which means I have to manually type .jpg every time. For a large collection of images that I am hoping to use the same root file name and then add chronological numbers at the end, this has become incredibly frustrating, especially as it is a previously unnecessary task.
    I am using a new Macbook Pro and maybe there's something Apple related to this...? It did not happen on my old PowerBook G4. I have file extensions turned on in System Preferences.
    It should be noted that I have searched high and low and have even gone into the Apple Genius Bar where they were just confused as I was and of course ended by urging me to use Safari (shocker!) as it has all kinds of new extensions and bells and whistles. I seriously feel alone on an island with this dumb, hard to google problem. Thanks so much for any help anyone out there might have.
    I mean: is this as simple as changing a setting in about:config?
    Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for your response Mylenium, however like I mentioned multiple times, I did change all of my trackpad/scrolling settings in system preferences.  And if I wanted to use a normal mouse (or a tablet), I would've gotten an iMac instead of a MacBook Pro.  I travel often and work all over the place, not always with access to a decently sized workspace that would be required for using a mouse or tablet.

  • LR 5.6 Sorting photos - Sort by file name?

    Is there a way to sort the photos by file name?  The files seem to be in a random order in the filmstrip.  They stay in this order or reverse order when using Sort above the filmstrip.

    On the toolbar above the filmstrip there is a dropdown menu to the right of “sort” where you can choose file name. Press the T key once or twice to show/hide the tool bar if it can’t be seen immediately.

  • Elements 8 - How to view images by scrolling thru folder of file names?

    After taking a large batch of pictures, I want to place them in a folder and rapidly view the full images one at a time to select which to keep and which to discard.  IN PE-8 how can I display two panes - one pane containing the image file names contained in a folder and the other pane which displays the image of the file name selected?  Using the arrow keys, I want to move through image file names one at a time while displaying the image associated with the file name in the other pane.

      One method of accepting or rejecting is to use star ratings.
    Select the first image and press F12 to view full screen. Press the 5 key to add five stars.
    Press the right keyboard arrow to move to the next image and star or move on.
    When you have finished the batch you can filter by the star rating.

  • View file names under images?

    In iPhoto, the titles of all imported images were set to the file names and it was therefore possible to have the file names displayed under every image.
    In Photos, titles can be viewed by selecting View > Metadata > Titles, but all titles are empty on newly imported images. There seems to be an option to view the file name as a separate field, by selecting View > Metadata > Referenced file. However, this option does nothing. But when I search for a file name, the correct images show up, so Photos obviously keeps track of the file names somehow.
    So, how can I view the file names under every image, or import the file names into the titles?

    OK, thanks.
    I dug around a little and this definitely seems to be a bug in how the iPhoto library is converted to a Photos library. iPhoto didn't just display file names under the images. Rather, on import, iPhoto actually sets the image titles to the file names minus the file extensions (e.g. ".jpg"). But those titles, as well as the titles manually set in iPhoto, are not imported properly into the Photos library.
    I located the Photos library database. It's in the library package > Database > apdb > Library.apdb. The file is in SQLite format and can be browsed and edited with e.g. "sqlitebrowser" (http://sqlitebrowser.org/).* In it, I found that there is a table called RKMaster, that holds information about all original images. RKMaster has an attribute called "name" that contains all the original image titles. This is not the same as the file name, which is a separate "fileName" attribute in the same table, which in my case contains the same information as the "name" attribute, but with file extensions.
    Then there is another table, RKVersion. This table contains information about the different versions of all images and this information is the one actually being displayed when you use the application. RKVersion has attributes for "name" and "fileName" as well. In my Photos library, "name" is empty for all my newly imported images, but "fileName" has all the correct file names with file extensions. If I edit the database and insert something in the "name" attribute for an image, the name is then displayed as an image title in Photos.
    I then opened the library file from my old iPhoto library and it has a similar structure. In its RKVersion table, all the "name" attributes are filled out and they contain all the image titles I want to see. So I can conclude that during the conversion from iPhoto to Photos, the "name" attributes were simply not copied over, and that is why all my images now lack titles.
    I will try to find a way to copy this whole column from the iPhoto library into the Photos library, which should solve the problem.
    * Please be aware that editing this file may cause irreversible damage to the library. Make sure there is a backup of the whole library before digging into these files.
