  • Sort messages in Mavericks Mail

    Hello,
I upgraded from Snow Leopard directly to Mavericks. With respect to the previous version of Mail, I find the following functions not easily accessed as before. In a work environment this means wasting more time to do the same thing.
    1) There is no possibility to quickly "sort" messages like before. Previously it was very quick to do it by selecting date, addressee, etc.
I can do this by selecting "Classic layout" but in that case I lose the side preview panel which I have now, and the old WideMail plugin doesn't work anymore.
    2) When you write a new message there is no "save draft" button anymore.
    3) When you make a search in Mail there is a lot of information coming out, which are not needed.
    Thanks

    Jean...hi
like you I am going from Snow Leopard to Mavericks.....a whole new world...Mail for me is the programme with the steepest learning curve .
can help you with this perhaps:
---sort: note above the inbox panel/window thare are sorting functions:
click the tiny arrow and for sorting options.
----also when searching, choose options from drop down.
---when switching to classic view: the preview panel is below, like it was before...
    ---save draft: cmd s
----check out the mail preference...Yes, I have spent so much time at work figuring out the new way. also youtube tutorials on Lion and maybe Mt. Lion give instructions on Mails new look.
good luck....i feel your pain, brother....

  • Mail Stuck on "Sorting Messages"

Hello, I need some advice about a problem I'm having with Mail. When I open Mail, it tells me that I have several new messages in my inbox, but when I click on In, I am faced with a blank screen with the message "sorting messages". This happens with all my other mailboxes, including saved mail. When I try to quit Mail, I have to use Force Quit. Can anyone tell me how to get out of this loop? Do I need to reinstall Mail from the setup disk? If so, will I lose my saved messages?
    Thanks

Well, you could follow the suggestion given in the following link, which is essentially moving the Inbox mailbox to the desktop, then restarting Mail and then Import the Mailbox back into mail. Hopefully that will set it straight. The full details by David Gimeno Gost are in this link.

  • Pre-sort messages with filters

My desktop e-mail client and webmail portal are both set to utilize a filter that moves messages from a high-volume listserv to which I subscribe to a folder for only those messages. I use IMAP, so as long as my desktop client is open and automatically checking for messages, this sorting also happens on my iPhone. But if I close my desktop client, the sorting does not happen.
Is the only solution to always keep my desktop client open? That seems a bit kludgey.
    Thanks in advance,
    Andy

Is the only solution to always keep my desktop client open? That seems a bit kludgey.
If the sorting to user created server stored mailboxes for the account is done with the email client used on your computer for accessing the account, yes.
With my MobileMe account which is accessed as an IMAP account with the Mail.app on my Mac and with the iPhone's Mail client, I always leave the Mail.app on my Mac launched and running actively checking the account for new messages. In addition to Apple's spam filter at the MobileMe incoming mail server, the Mail.app on my Mac has an excellent spam filter. Although I get very little spam, leaving the Mail.app on my Mac launched and running actively checking the account for new messages is also serving as the junk mail filter with the account with the iPhone's Mail client. For any Mail.app rules to sort received messages to user created server stored mailboxes, I need to leave the Mail.app on my Mac launched and running for this to be reflected automatically when accessing the account with the iPhone's Mail client.

  • Sort messages in Folder "Inbox"

    Dear all,
How do I sort the messages in the Inbox folder using JavaMail API?
    Rgds,
    Seetesh

    Hello Kona,
    Thks for the reply.
I have the code for both sending mails via SMTP and receiving mails using POP3.
    My question is
    1. Apart for port no differences for SMTP and POP3 what are the other differences.
    2. Can I sort the messages Inbox folder (using POP3 server programs) ?
Currently I am using a Comparator and populating all the messages in an ArrayList and then sorting them. This seems to be very time consuming.
I want to sort the (javax.mail.Folder) Inbox Folder itself before i process any mails.
    Rgds,

  • The program will not let me make folders to sort messages. It acts like it is but they do not appear.

I click to create folder, and the screen pulls up for me to name it. Once I name it and click ok, nothing happens. I need folders to sort and save messages.

If you use an IMAP mail account, have you subscribed to see those folders?

  • Can I sort messages in Mail by TWO headers at once?

I'm trying to find some photos that someone sent me in the past month.  However, I don't remember the person's name.  So I'm trying to sort the messages by 'attachment,' and then by 'date.'
However, when I do this, the 2nd sort doesn't keep the original 'Attachment' sort order.  So what I need to be able to do is sort by two criteria at once.
Is it possible to do this?

Can't do it in the same window (folder).
    Here's what you can do.
Make a new mailbox (folder) in the sidebar by selecting "New Mailbox..." from the Mailbox menu. Name it something appropriate.
Do your first sort by date in the regular folder you use. Then select all of the ones of the appropriate date and move them into the new folder (drag and drop). In the new folder, sort by attachment.
Once done, you can move the subset back into the regular folder.

  • Apple Mail, won't sort message on server

Apple Mail 7 on Mavericks, when I display my account's email messages  still stored on the ISP server (account information), it is no longer possible to sort them by categories (dimension, date, sender, etc.).
Previously it was possible: is it a bug or has been removed as a feature (very useful to delete old message from the server !!).

I'm not talking about the email messages stored locally on my computer.
It's not the main Mail window I'm talking about.
Let's see if I can make me clear.
The step to reproduce the problems are:
1- click on your account's INBOX incoming mail contextual menu
    2- select "account informations"
3- this will open the "account informations" window, showing all your email messages still archived on your ISP server (not only your local mail).
4- In this window it is no loger possible to order the mail messages by date, sender, dimenstion etc
    See short movie here:
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8222823/Mail_account_info.mp4
BTW, you'll see in the movie that Mail messages are ordered (why?) by dimension.
What if I'd like to select and delete all the old message from 3 days ago?

  • Sorting messages

Is there a way to change the order in which the messages are listed? Sometimes a new message may be listed in the middle of the list (as a response to another message). I would like to sort the messages by date. Is that possible?

    Click on My Settings.
In General Settings, Topic Page View, select Flat.

  • Sort Messages

    Hi,
Is it possible to sort different messages and process it in sequence.....say for instance, PI recevies messages in the following order:
    A
    C
    D
    B
and the messages are to be sorted and processed to sender as follows:
    A
    B
    C
    D
As far i had experienced i had not seen sorting of incoming messages in PI. Any thoughts/help on this pls?

    Jus the real case here.....
    Sender sends as follows:
    1-GR
    2-GI
    3-Adjustments
    4-GR
    5-Adjustments
    6-GI
System B receives as and sends to PI:
    1-GR
    2-GI
    4-GR
    5-Adjustments
    3-Adjustments
    6-GI
PI to reflect the actual sequence:
    1-GR
    2-GI
    3-Adjustments
    4-GR

  • Nokia 7610 Supernova - sorting messages

Ive purchased the Nokia 7610 Supernova today and finally managed to transfer 191 messages from my old phone (Nokia E65) to the new phone via the latest PC Suite. It errored at first, but I finally managed to set it over into a new folder.
I was so happy I finally managed Now, a moment later I open the folder and the 191 text messages are in the folder completely randomised! I can't properly read through them anymore (as some of them followed each other up) and I don't have the option to "sort by - date/type etc etc". How can I fix this?
I tried making a second folder and moving the messages over from the previous one 1 by 1 in the correct order, it didn't help. I did about 25 and when I checked if it was done right it was all randomised again.
Please help? These messages mean alot to me.

Did You install PC suite to your computer before connecting? Which mode are you using to connec PC Suite or data transfer? Data transfer shouldn't require drivers but you can get the cable driver just in case. It should be on the disk that came in the box with your phone. If you have installed PC suite make sure it's running when you plug the phone in

  • Problems sorting messages? (Mail.app, Lion, IMAP)

I'm wondering if (how?) I'm the only person with this problem...
I generally run with a window just open to my Inbox(-es).  That window is 2-columns, message list and message contents.  The hidden "Mailboxes" pane has several accounts under Inbox, most/all of which are IMAP servers.
Here's the problem: The column heading for the list of messages reads "Sort by date".  However, the message list isn't sorted by date at all.  It appears that "Date" may be "date received", but I can't be certain of this.  In previous versions of Mail.app, there was a distinction between sorting by date of the message or the date received; in general I prefer the former.  But that doesn't seem to account for this:
The options for this are Sorted by: Date, Ascending.
The interesting aspect of this is that if I choose one particular Inbox (i.e., the inbox from any account, rather than the "consolidated" listing), messages are sorted properly.  It's only when I have the view of all the inboxes (that is, the "Inbox" itself is selected, rather than any of the accounts under it) that sorting goes awry.
I do have lots of rules defined, moving certain messages from one place to another, and applying colors.  But this hadn't previously (nor would I expect it to) cause this issue.
Does anyone else have this problem, or any ideas on how to fix it?

Apparently, I was either the only person to have an issue with this, or the only one bothered enough to write to the group!
I do have a solution, however.
From what I was able to tell, the issue was that the menu items for sorting, including the "Sort by" in the Mail window header bar and the View -> Sort by menu simply displayed "Date" as the option.
Recalling the old trick of using the Option key while selecting a menu item, "Date" changed to "Date Sent".  It has not changed back to "Date"; now holding down Option changes it "Date Received", and the menu item continues to read "Date Sent", which is the desired behavior.
Unfortunately, Mail was stuck in a state where both these indications simply said "Date"; I've now apparently changed this and the indicator reads properly (and the sort order is as expected).
I hope if this bugs anyone else this explanation (?) will help.

  • Mail sorting messages from different people in the same thread?

I have this weird issue. It's happened before but I figured I might be able to figure this out.
I got a response from somebody this morning and whats happening is, when I click on his response, the email shows up on the right like it should. However, ths email is from "Floyd" and shows as email "2". It shows another email below it in the "thread" from "Taryn" and has absolutely nothing to do with this email. The only similarities are the subject line which says "Poster". The "First" email from Taryn is from April. It seams as if it's sorting the emails by subject line. I don't want emails from different people in the same thread. Any thoughts on how to fix this issue? Image attached.
    OSX 10.8.4

This question is about the same as mine.  I migrated all my data from old mac mini to new mac mini.  System screwed up and permission and owners were not setup.  Now I'm trying to salvage this mess.  I'm also trying to import mail, which I think should be on the computer but I don't know where.
Same question where does the computer store Mail mail?
