[SORT OF SOLVED] Trash keeps opening with Firefox on AWN!

Yeah, this is really starting to annoy me.
Apparently, :trash is set to open using Firefox when I load it through anything other than a File Manager (Nautilus, Thunar, etc)
I cant seem to remove it either from Firefox's extensions list.
I cant open my trash via AWN in any desktop environment for this very reason, and it's irritating the living daylights out of me. I'm sure it's something in the OS or Firefox that is to blame. What's even stupider is that in gconf-editor, the key under desktop/gnome/url-handlers/trash is set to nautilus %s, so I am completely dumbfounded at why this doesn't work right.
I suspect it's Firefox, and I'd like to see if I can remove the :trash file association from it, I just don't know how to go about this.
Also, when I attempt to access :trash by typing it into PCManFM's location bar, heres what I get
(pcmanfm:11635): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

Something is obviously borked and I'd like to know what it is. I did manage to edit one of the mimetype folders and completely remove :trash links from Firefox, but they still keep trying to open with it anyway, only now they ask me what program I want to use. I just wanna use my trash as normal.
Edit: Apparently docky works just fine, but I've decided against using a dock. I'll figure out the trash myself. Gonna use bmpanel2 for now.

I looked under both locations, and found nothing. When I typed in msconfig in Start>Run..., I checked System Configuration Utility, and found one process that puzzled me... http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/3281/wuththehell.jpg
I unchecked it and closed the window after saving, but didnt restart. Later on I decided to take a look at it again, and when I opened the window, the process was gone.

Keeps opening a Firefox 5 software update everyday, although it is downloaded every time and turns off the PC .automatically after download is finished

If files already have been downloaded then you need to remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder.<br />
You can delete active-update.xml and updates.xml as well if present.

* Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

• Cannot open .jnlp file when asked to open with firefox web browser in ubuntu 11.10 using firefox 6

After upgrading to ubuntu 11.10 the firefox 6 browser cannot download and open .jnlp file from the interactivebrokers website. Usually I go to the IB website and download tws.jnlp file which is opened in the firefox web browser. But now when I click on the Open with Firefox Browser button, the firefox browser opens a new tab and display the same open window again.

Seems that after upgrading to 11.10, jnlp files open with firefox instead of javaws (Java Web Start).
If you right click the file on the download folder and choose "open with" you can manually select java web start.
Ubuntu bug...
You can right click any .jnlp file and select "properties", go to "Open With" tab, mark Sun Java 6 Web Start and click "Set as Default". Should fix it. I don't know what would happen if you have the default ubuntu java instead of Sun's. Maybe this wouldn't be necessary.

• PDFs opening twice using 'open with Firefox' when browser is not already running

Windows 7 - Firefox 15*-16*
if Firefox is not already running, opening a PDF document using Firefox (eg right-clicking PDF from desktop, selecting 'open with > Firefox) is always causing Firefox top open the PDF in two different windows.
Happening with PDF plugins enabled and disabled.
Maybe this is a bug and I should report as such?

You can check for problems caused by DDE in Windows.

I have a sync account and used to keep sync with Firefox server. Now computer got re-installed(OS) and want to sync data from Firefox sync server. But I am unable to setup as i don't have sync key.
I would like to just sync with Firefox Sync Server with existing account. I can not find any way out for this. please reply me on
[email protected]

hello, for the old sync system in firefox 28 and below you also had to sign up with a mail address and password originally - to connect firefox to the old account you would need to have all those three pieces (mail, password & recovery key) available to you unfortunately...

• FLV(F4V): Specific f4v file cannot open with Firefox

Hi all,
I have a flv movie garelly kind of thing on my website, works all fine on IE v11 and Chrome v32.
However, there is one specific f4v file cannot open on Firefox v26.
Getting error says  [HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found 315ms].
There were no problem with about one year earlier version of Firefox, on Win7 x64, now I'm on Win8.1 x64.
Anyone have any idea about this?
Any help will be appreciated.

• Why do email links open with firefox

even when I have another browser already open, my email links automatically open with firefox

Is Firefox set as your Default Browser?

• If Firefox is not the default browser is there anyway to create an "Open with Firefox" right click option for internet icons on the desktop??

When internet icons on the desktop are right clicked and Firefox is not the default browser, is there anyway to create an "Open with Firefox" option in the right click menu? If not you should create one in future versions.

You will have to create a copy of the Firefox desktop shortcut and add the URL to the target line if you want to open such an internet shortcut with Firefox.
A normal internet shortcut will always open in the default browser.

• [Solved] When I open multiple Firefox windows an orange pull down tab appears and I cannot exit from any single window. I have to exit all of the Firefox windows to close one.

I like to open several Firefox windows when I am browsing the internet. Since mi reinstall of windows XP with sp3 I installed Firefox 5.0.1. Now when I open multiple windows they kind of window in a window and I get this orange pull down menu. I can no longer close any one single window. I click the lower of the two top right X's to close the window and all the tabs in that window, but nothing happens. I also don't like the look and feel of the orange pull down menu

Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
In Firefox 4 and later Safe mode disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

• Browser keeps opening with previous tabs from day before. How do I stop this?

Under Tools>Options>General I have the browser set when I open the browser to "open up a blank page" but it keeps opening up previous tabs from the day before. How can I stop this? I read the forum boards but either did not find it or overlooked the answer. I checked all my other settings and cannot find anything that would be causing this. Please advise?

You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref to true.

• Facebook freezes when trying to open with firefox but not other browsers, how do I fix this?

I have two users on my pc. The main user has no problem accessing facebook using his windows account and firefox browser. The second user, however all of a sudden, cannot access facebook with his windows account and firefox browser. Firefox freezes and says not responding. Other browsers, however work. I have loaded and run a windows registry repair which did not fix the problem. I have also run my virus scanning software. I cannot find an answer to this issue. Can someone please help?

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.
