Sort Order Idea

Without the ability to search for a contact in the contact database, it would be very helpful to at least be able to toggle between sorting by first or last name without having to take a trip to Settings.
I wanted to find a BMW service advisor as I drove up to my local shop today. At first I couldn't remember his name at all, and couldn't do a simple find for BMW to recall his name before walking in to greet him. That's when the absence of a Find capability struck me. But then I remembered that his name was Richard, but I was sorted by last name, so had to go to Settings, Phone, change the Contact Sorting, go back Home, back to Phone, then scroll to my 29 "Richard" entries in my 2,204-person database.
Whew!
I'm looking forward to some things like this being upgraded with Leopard.

You have not mentioned which iPod you are using - and this does make a difference.
I assume it's the iPod Classic, which as you have found, places the Podcasts in reverse order on the iPod so they play in the reverse order (I know - who thought that was a good idea? ) What's worse, if you try playing a Podcast, when it finishes, the next one will play even if you do not want it to!
There are two work-arounds (and if you are not using an iPod Classic, try this to see if it works on your model):
Put the Podcasts into a Playlist (in the order you want them to play) and use that Playlist. You can do this in iTunes and then Sync that Playlist to your iPod, or you can add them to an On-The-Go Playlist on the iPod Classic. Make sure that Shuffle is off, (see next tip).
Alternatively, turn on the Shuffle songs on your iPod. This tip will cause the iPod to stop after each Podcast episode. So you can play the oldest one first, the iPod will stop, and you can then select (and play) the next oldest episode. This works because iTunes sets all Podcasts to Skip when shuffling, so when an episode finishes, there are no other episodes to be played because they are all set to skip. Using this method, you can simply select the one episode you wish to play and the iPod will play only that episode.
Just so that you know/understand; I also use an iPod Touch but on that model of iPod, Podcasts are added to the iPod in the correct order!

  • In our web site the product sort order under our categories are random with Firefox but IE, Chrome is alright, any ideas?

    The sort order of products under our categories on our web site is random with Firefox, but the categories with products are in the correct order with IE, Chrome, etc. This incorrect order with Firefox occurs on various computers, i.e. Windows 7, XP, etc. and is not consistent. To make matters worse, sometimes it is random with Firefox and then returns to being correctly sorted but IE, Chrome, etc. are always in the correct order.

    Works fine here for me, even after refreshing.

  • Any way to Restore Last Manual Sort Order or Prevent from being Overwritten accidentally?

         Help!
         I'm constantly accidentally overwriting painstakingly created manual sort ordering (sometimes hours but more often months of accumulated work) in folders with files numbering up to 1,000, when i, however breifly, switch to another sort ordering (size, date modified etc) to check something, immediately forget that i'm in another sort order, and, unthinkingly (actually i guess i'm thinking of a lot of other things) drag a file to another position, this immediately destroys any past manual sorting i've established, overwriting it with this new inadvertent manual ordering.
         I've tried CommandZ (edit undo) but that only undoes my last rating or labeling, i've rushed to force quit Bridge through the activity montior hoping i will catch it before its overwritten, but obviously i am not as fast as a computer, and i don't think this has ever worked.
    Is there any way or any script someone has written to formally save a manual sort order? Is there anything i've missed to attempt restoring it? Has anyone, repeatedly foiled by this, written something that would give a warning and require confirmation say for instance, if i tried to drag or move a file while in another sort ordering (this seems like something that should have existed the minute the opportunity was given to create manual organization). Would anyone be willing to?
         Seriously, me forgetting almost every time isn't going to change and, more vexingly, it's even happened when i didn't mean to move anything but fumbled momentarily while in another sort order. I think most people might forget because (in the context of computing) we are conditioned to expect a warning if something we have just created is about to be written over or discarded, and since there is no option to formally save a manual ordering we have just created.
         Also, if this was in the real world, moving a single file would not reshuffle everything on your desk. If i had the option to formally save a manual organization i would NOT forget to do this and would use it, as i've wished for one every time spent a while rearranging files. Knowing how easily all the hours (much less months and years of cumulative work) of organizational work can be accidentally lost makes working within Bridge unpleasantly anxious.
          I'm literally willing to do anything including installing some sketchy 3rd-part scripts (though honestly i have no idea what that means or how to do it). I extentively use and rely heavily upon this function so this is a fairly serious Achille's heel. It's like watching your incredibly important meticulously constructed house of cards collapse with a careless but innocent sigh, or like having the equivelent of a not even charming cat dance across your keyboard during a live concert, etc etc....
         Also it is not usually appropriate, given the context, to batch rename everything to preserve a manual ordering w sequence numbers, etc. Often the filenames are considerably (but necessarily, to connote important differences) long already, and when i have to rearrange things in the future would have to do that each time, etc, etc, making for even more unwieldly filenames that didn't have any substantive information at the beginning. I'm looking for a way to make this function (manual sort ordering), well, more functional, secure and stable, the workarounds i've considered cause too many additonal problems.
         Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to offer, and as this is my first attempt to use the forums as i live on a boat with no regular net access, would appreciate any forum etiquette corrections, and advance apologies for any misspellings, dyslexic and spellcheck does not seem to work in this interface. next time will edit in external wordprocessing program beforehand,

         PS i'm on a 27" mac w CS4 Design Premium, w up to the minute OS (10.6.8) and Adobe software updates installed recently (i do not often move the monster but this week was housesitting w net access, so she has had all recommended shots and vaccinations....)
         PPS I know most of y'all might be running the newest and the latest of everything, but, i'm fairly certain this is still a problem in recent versions as this has happened to me at school where all the macs are running cs5. Though if it's been addressed somehow in cs6 would update entire suite just to fix this one problem in Bridge. I've tried many searches and found nothing relevant or wouldn't bother the considerable expertise and resources of an official forum, was extremely hesitant to ask (feared getting snapped at for unwittingly broaching forum etiquette) but it is truly the bane of my considerable Bridge existence, so was willing to risk the imaginary censure and opprobrium....

    That is a good question, to do this requires two functions and a restart of Bridge all done automagically
    Copy and paste the script into ExtendScript Toolkit
    This gets installed with Photoshop and can be found:-
    PC: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Utilities
    MAC: <hard drive>/Applications/Utilities/Adobe Utilities
    Start Bridge
    PC: Edit - Preferences - Startup Scripts
    Mac: Adobe Bridge menu - Preferences - Startup Scripts
    At the bottom click the "Reveal Button" this will open the folder where the script should be saved.
    Close and restart Bridge.
    Accept the new script.
    To use:
    Tools - Backup Manual Sort
    This will backup the hidden manual sort file .BridgeSort to .BridgeSortSave
    Tools - Restore Manual Sort
    This will copy the .BridgeSortSave back to .BridgeSort and will close and restart Bridge so that the manual sort is restored.
    if( BridgeTalk.appName == "bridge" ) {
    var backUpManSort = new MenuElement( "command","Backup Manual Sort", "at the end of Tools" , "backupms" );
    var RestoreManSort = new MenuElement( "command","Restore Manual Sort", "at the end of Tools" , "restorems" );
    backUpManSort.onSelect = function () {
    var fileSort = new File(app.document.presentationPath +"/.BridgeSort");
    var fileSave = new File(app.document.presentationPath +"/.BridgeSortSave");
    if(fileSave.exists) fileSave.remove();
    fileSort.copy(fileSave);
    fileSave.hidden=true;
    RestoreManSort.onSelect = function () {
    var fileSort = new File(app.document.presentationPath +"/.BridgeSort");
    var fileSave = new File(app.document.presentationPath +"/.BridgeSortSave");
    if(!fileSave.exists){
    alert("No backup file exists");
    return;
    app.document.sorts = [{ type:"string",name:"document-kind", reverse:false }];
    if(fileSort.exists) fileSort.remove();
    fileSave.copy(fileSort);
    fileSort.hidden=true;
    app.document.chooseMenuItem("mondo/command/new");
    app.documents[0].close();
    app.document.sorts = [{ name:"user",type:"date", reverse:false }];
    Hope this works for you.

  • List of found events changes sort order when pasted from clipboard

    when I find a set of events in iCal, the list appears in the window at the bottom of the page in the correct sort order when sorted by date, title or type. When I then copy that list to the clipboard and paste it into another program (Pages, MacJournal, TextEdit) the sort order changes.
    I work mostly in English, but my macbookpro keyboard is German, so I assume the problem is with the language settings. I've tried changing the system preferences for language and sort order, and that changes the sort order, but it doesn't get it right.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    F-26 sort order of Process open items. Before the upgrade on 4.6c when we did F-26 and entered the billing document the open items were then grouped together at the top. Now in ECC the sort does not occur. Any ideas on how to fix this.

  • Specified Sort Order not working correctly in InfoView

    Hello All,
    We are running Crystal 2008 version 12.2.0.290 with Infoview 12.1.0 and are having a problem with specified sort orders working correctly.  In Crystal we are using the 'Chart Expert' to set the specified order of the percent bar chart.  It works just fine in Crystal 2008 and shows the stacked bar in the order we would expect.  We then save the report to InfoView and run the report on a schedule and it comes back in a completely different order. Not the order we specified in designing the report.  Any ideas on what is going on?
    Thanks in advance.

    We are experiencing a similar issue with the sort order in Infoview. We are using Crystal XI.5.8.26 and Infoview.
    The specified sort order works correctly in Crystal but in Infoview it comes back with a different order. Are there any suggestions on resolving this disparity?
    Thank you.

  • Itunes sort order different in playlist

    I'm having a weird sort order problem... in one playlist - I have the column "album" sorted. The songs names (under "name") for one album sort just fine - the names are "ep 1", "ep 2", "ep 3", etc. and appear in that order.
    However, if I click that album column to sort by "album by artist" - the song order changes. now they are seemingly random (although I imagine there has to be a reason behind the order).
    The sort order of those songs is even different *in another playlist* - ie, they are not even in the same "random" order they show in when I sort them by "album by artist" in the other playlist above. They're in a "different random" order.
    Any ideas?

    That's helpful for my issues with iPhone, which are yet another variation on what I'm talking about - but in going through the article, I couldn't find anything that pointed to why my "name" column is not sorting properly for the same artist album.
    Selecting all the songs in that album, get info --> shows the artist, album artist and album names (both album artist and artist are exactly the same) - so my point is there are not some kind hidden character problem - or they wouldn't match and therefore the fields would be blank.
    If the "album by artist" is the primary sort, what does itunes use for the secondary column to sort? This should help me answer the problem.... it sure doesn't look like "name" column is used as 2nd... because it's not sorted!

  • "Date Added" sort order problem when importing folders

    I sort by "Date Added" to view my iTunes library, and use the middle "view" button to view tracks grouped as albums with artwork. This works mighty well except when I'm importing folders containing the files in an album, such as those I get from eMusic--the tracks are displayed out of order when I do this. The only solution I've found so far is to import one track at a time. Any ideas how I can get those tracks in there in the right order when importing a folder? Any scripts hanging around that will do it right? Thanks to all....

    What sort order do you have selecting in the sort drop-down?  There is no "correct" sort order.  You can sort on any metadata you can show in the Browser.  The sort drop-down is located in the top border of the Browser, near the left corner.  Every container in Aperture retains the sort order it last had.  When you manually move an Image in the Browser, the sort order is changed to "Manual".

  • Wrong sort order

    iPhoto recently began reordering photos on its own. This started about the time I moved my library of photos from my old G5 to my new MacPro Quad Core. I have View/Sort Photos/ set to Manually for one of my albums and I've been adding photos to the end, the bottom of the album in thumbnail view once they've been imported. The next time I open iPhoto those and others added recently are at the top of the page, at the beginning of the thumbnails.
    I'm thinking that whatever file it is that keeps track of the sort order may be corrupted. Does that sound right? Any ideas on how to fix this problem?
    Thanks.

    Thank you.
    Actually there is no such exact option. There is a Repair the Database option, and one marked Rebuild the Database from the automatic backup. they are two separate options. Since I wasn't sure of the health of the automatic backup I selected Repair the Database. I've quite and restarted iPhoto a couple times. The first time I had to reorder one of the recently added photos. After that things seemed OK. I'll consider the problem solved, at least for now.
    Thank you so much!

  • IPhoto - sort order mixed up!

    I am on Yosemite and and all the latest updates.  The other day my Macbook Pro would not wake so i had to "hard" reboot.  I had iPhoto opened when this happened.  When i rebooted iPhoto had to repair/rebuild database.  NOW, the Order-By-Date is all mixed up.  Goes from 2008, 2004, 2009, 2005, 2012, 2006 and so on - any idea's on how to fix thins?  The dates are correct on the photo's, but they are all out of order.
    Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
    Stev

    Use the View ➙ Sort menu option in the view that you're using in iPhoto to change the type of sort and sort order to your liking:

  • All Photos Album Incorrect Sort Order

    When I view the album "All Photos" from iCloud.com my photos are sorted by date with the newest ones at the bottom. When I view "All Photos" within iOS or the OS X app, the sorting order isn't correct. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    I think this is an embarrassing thought-fail on Apple's part.
    After removing good ways of sharing photos from one library to another, people end up having to get older pictures, or pictures loaded into a laptop while traveling, back onto our main Photos libraries though copying (edited) files over the network and re-add them. This create systematic discrepancies in date added and date taken.
    When "All Photos" Panoramas", "Videos" and otherwise handy views can only be viewed by date added they add to the feeling of having to keep your photos in an exposed disorder.
    If you think of a photo, do you think about when/where you took it or when/to what library you added the photo?
    People think of the first, and machines (and now apparently Apple) intuitively think of the second..
    But maybe I'm too harsh, and I have missed something. Can anybody see a good reason for focusing on date added rather than date taken?

  • Sort order of photos on iPhone messed up when photos stored on a NAS

    Sorting iPhone photos stored on a netfear readyNAS Duo under windows
    I have a set of photos taken with another camera which I sync to my iPhone 3 GS.  Previously I stored the photos on my windows pc and after syncing they were sorted on my iPhone  alphabetically.
    I then deleted the photos from my iPhone, deleted the iPod cache folder that was in the photo directory on my windows pc, and copied them over to my readyNAS duo.  The NAS ( network attached storage) is acessed over wired Ethernet via CIFS.
    I then reimported the photos using iTunes, (which created a new cache folder on the NAS) and synced them back to my phone.  After doing this, the sort order for those photos on the phone seems scrambled.
    One other thing to note.  Previously the folder synced contained the photos.  Now the folder containing the photos is a subdirectory of the sync folder
    Now, I followed another post in this forum whereby the user, storing his photos on his windows pc, deleted his cache folder, resorted the photos via windows explorer, and imported them back in.  This solved his problem.
    I tried these steps with the photos on the NAS and this did not work for me.
    Any ideas on how to keep my photos on the NAS and have them sorted properly on the iPhone?
    Brad

    I use iPhoto for photo storage on my Mac, and the photo placement/order in my iPhoto albums that I transfer to my iPhone match the photo placement/order with the albums in iPhoto.

  • Sort order in Photo Browser

    The sort order of photos appearing in Photo Browser while in Mail has been, until recently, showing the most recent photos first.
    Today, it started showing the oldest photos first.
    Any ideas about what I did to change the order, and how I can reverse the current sort order to return to the prior state?
    I'd like to have the newest photos appear first, as they have for some time.

    Many thanks for help!

    Thanks Steven,
    Ok I was only half wrong so they are in alphabetical order, but not numerical order. In the Mac finder window in list or icon view it sorts automatically in alphabetical and numerical. Question 1: Is there no way to change the sorting order in Premiere?
    I'm still living with a few projects that were shot on tape and where the previous video editor auto numbered digitized clips. Question 2: I'm not going to redigitize this project in Premiere, but for another tape based project would I be able to set up this numbering scheme you mention?
    The mac finder sorts them correctly due to an update they did to the OS a long time ago that means it recognizes 10 as coming after 9 rather than needing to put 09 for it to work. Most systems don't work that way.
    You could always download a simple batch renaming app, I think there's a few around, and just rename them with zeros in front. Would probably take you about ten minutes tops, including downloading the app.
    As for sorting them within Premiere, in list mode you just click the header of the column you want to sort by. But if you're sorting by name it will display them in the order they're currently in, because that is technically correct.

  • Sort order in filter box (NAVPANEL)

    Dear experts,
    in BEx 7.0 it seems the free characteristics in the navigation pane are sorted ascending according to the text.
    I have found an option for changing the sort order in the workbook (design mode -> filter/navigation pane -> properties -> dimensions -> change order).
    We would however like to generally influence the sort order and select it in dependency of the order in the query designer or the technical names/text of the characteristics,...
    Any ideas on how to accomplish our endeavour?
    Kind regards,
    Jeanette

    Hi Jeanette,
    For some reason this 5 year old question has appeared on the first page of BEx discussions. The only way to influence this sort order is to change the name of the Char.

  • Sort Order in Finder

    Hi all,
    I've got a very easy question, but didn't found a solution. How can I change sort order in finder in Snow Leopard to bring the folders to the top?
    Kind Regards, Chrischmi

    There is no known trick to do that? I just found some for Leopard, but they seem not to work in Snow Leopard. I can't believe, that such a basic functionality is not available by default. I thought, I would be just too blind to find it.
    Grouping is helpful, but a workaround only. Thanks for that hint, Matt!
