Sort order in Photo Browser

The sort order of photos appearing in Photo Browser while in Mail has been, until recently, showing the most recent photos first.
Today, it started showing the oldest photos first.
Any ideas about what I did to change the order, and how I can reverse the current sort order to return to the prior state?
I'd like to have the newest photos appear first, as they have for some time.
Running Mail in Snow Leopard 10.6. 8.
Many thanks for help!

Thanks Steven,
Ok I was only half wrong so they are in alphabetical order, but not numerical order. In the Mac finder window in list or icon view it sorts automatically in alphabetical and numerical. Question 1: Is there no way to change the sorting order in Premiere?
I'm still living with a few projects that were shot on tape and where the previous video editor auto numbered digitized clips. Question 2: I'm not going to redigitize this project in Premiere, but for another tape based project would I be able to set up this numbering scheme you mention?
The mac finder sorts them correctly due to an update they did to the OS a long time ago that means it recognizes 10 as coming after 9 rather than needing to put 09 for it to work. Most systems don't work that way.
You could always download a simple batch renaming app, I think there's a few around, and just rename them with zeros in front. Would probably take you about ten minutes tops, including downloading the app.
As for sorting them within Premiere, in list mode you just click the header of the column you want to sort by. But if you're sorting by name it will display them in the order they're currently in, because that is technically correct.

  • Sort order of photos on iPhone messed up when photos stored on a NAS

Sorting iPhone photos stored on a netfear readyNAS Duo under windows
I have a set of photos taken with another camera which I sync to my iPhone 3 GS.  Previously I stored the photos on my windows pc and after syncing they were sorted on my iPhone  alphabetically.
I then deleted the photos from my iPhone, deleted the iPod cache folder that was in the photo directory on my windows pc, and copied them over to my readyNAS duo.  The NAS ( network attached storage) is acessed over wired Ethernet via CIFS.
I then reimported the photos using iTunes, (which created a new cache folder on the NAS) and synced them back to my phone.  After doing this, the sort order for those photos on the phone seems scrambled.
One other thing to note.  Previously the folder synced contained the photos.  Now the folder containing the photos is a subdirectory of the sync folder
Now, I followed another post in this forum whereby the user, storing his photos on his windows pc, deleted his cache folder, resorted the photos via windows explorer, and imported them back in.  This solved his problem.
I tried these steps with the photos on the NAS and this did not work for me.
Any ideas on how to keep my photos on the NAS and have them sorted properly on the iPhone?
    Brad

I use iPhoto for photo storage on my Mac, and the photo placement/order in my iPhoto albums that I transfer to my iPhone match the photo placement/order with the albums in iPhoto.

  • Sort order for photos synched from Aperture

I have synched photos from Aperture to the Apple TV, but the sort order when shown on Apple TV is not the same as the sort order in Aperture. Does anyone have an idea about which metadata field in Aperture is being used by Apple TV to determine the sort?

Hi this is my first append to Apple support so things may go pear shaped...
I have the same problem as you describe and have discovered that the order appears to be consistent with the file NAME order (as seen in Finder) This is not the camera file name but the version name I gave it when I imported the file into Aperture. I then exported the album to the desktop and streamed it to Appletv. (iTunes #count/album is sometimes wrong)
Given a file list of say 40 files, the new (incorrect Appletv re-sorted) order follows a pattern based on the FIRST numeric decimal digit in the filename!
Example - I have a folder containing 40 consecutive images - the new order these images will be displayed by Appletv will be as follows
    1 10[...]19 2 20[...]29 3 31[...]39 4 40 5 6 7 8 9
I've proved this by photographing 40 separate image files each one showing a number in the range of 1 to 40 as an individual image. These are in order by number (as appears in the image) & file number assigned by the camera, and also therefore by file date time. I imported them into Aperture and assigned them the Version name of 'Number' + sequence.
So, when I view image file #1 named 'Number 1 of 40' I see the number '1' and the EXIF tells me it was taken at 28/07/2007 13:33:16 BDT. Similarly when I view image file #40 named 'Number 40 of 40' I see the number '40' and the EXIF tells me it was taken at 28/07/2007 13:37:34 BDT.
I CAN CHANGE the order Appletv displays these by renaming them - eg change file name 'Number 10 of 40' to 'Number 41 of 40' makes it appear at the end. The sequence now becomes 1 11-19 etc 40 41. Nothing else appears to have changed.
I've since found that a separate burn of different files(29) using Toast followed the same pattern.
Since starting this append iTunes has the added the album of 40 numbers to its list and I have just viewed them on Atv slideshow. Bizarrely the order is different again - 3,5,2,4,1,10,13,15,6,11,14,7,8,12,9,32,17,33,26,22,23,28,18,29,20,24,35,16,21,3 1,19,25,30,34,27,37,38,40,39,36. Random is off. Please can we have a fix for this or at least a workaround.
    Thanks.

  • Sort Order in Column Browser iTunes 10

Several versions back, the sort order was numbers first and then letters. In other words, sorted in ascii sort order. For some reason, iTunes decided to change this. Will you please put an option in iTunes to change it to ascii sort order. Thank you so much.

First give the list a "kick" by sorting by some other fields, closing and reopening iTunes, and then sorting again by Artist.
Also look at the Sorting tab and make sure the tracks do not have data that could be interfering with the Sort Artist, namely Sort Album Artist.
If neither of those helps, you have probably discovered a bug in 9.1, which you can report here:

On my pc, they're like I want it (By Modified Date) But when i sync it, i get shuffled agaiin =S I Don't Know The Order That iOS 5 Sync The Photos..!!!

  • Wrong sort order for Photos taken in rapid sequence

    Hi!
I have a number of Photos that are taken on the same second. These show up in what appear to be random order in the organizer. Is there any workaround for this, let´s say by first sorting on timestamp and then by file name (if timestamp is equal).
This must be a common problem with todays cameras taking a lot of photos in rapid sequence, but just timestaming them with a resolution of one second.
    Please help!
    Cheers!
    / Håkan

Thanks for the proposal, and yes, I could fix the problem in a number of ways, for instance by changing the timestamp of the pictures.
But as I see it, PSE 7 should have a built in feature for handling this issue. Frankly, handling this automatically should be one of the most basic features of the organiser. Any modern digital camera have the possibility to take several shots per second.
    Please Adobe, fix this !

  • Sort order of Photos in Book

I am trying to create an iPhoto book. I have all my pictures sorted and in order by title. Whenever I create a new book it resorts all my pictures by date. Before I create the book my sort options are set to by title. After I create the book it is reset to by date. With the book open if I go to view -> Sort Photos -> By Title it does nothing. Is there a way to create a book with my photos sorted by title?

I found how to have the pictures in the good order
First, select the pictures that you want to order, client on 'view', 'Sort out photos' by name
Second, select the pictures an go to 'pictures', 'Grouped changes' and choose 'Define the date with' And down 'Add one minute between every photo'
    That's all !
Sorry for my english, i'm french....

  • Photo Sort Order in iOS6

Is anyone seeing a change in sort order in Photos in iOS6?   Previously I had a manual sort in iPhoto with my most recent events at the top.   In iOS the most recent events would also be at the top of the Events list.
In iOS6, I'm seeing new events thrown to the bottom of the list.  With a long list this gets pretty frustrating.   I tried having iPhoto to a date-based sort but the new Events are still at the bottom.  I tried a new manual sort and still it keeps it with the most recent Events at the bottom of the list.

Yes it is frustrating me also that the photos on my iPhone 4S are no longer sorted in the same order as they are sorted in iPhoto, as used to be the case.  I sort by title in iPhoto yet the iPhone now displays the most recently modified last instead.
    I have left a comment at    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

  • Browser Sort Order Always Reset

In Aperture 2, I set the sort order in the browser view once (to order by date) and then never thought about it again. In Aperture 3, it always defaults to Manual - even if I change it to Date, a little late it's back to Manual again. I can't see a way to set a default, so it stays on Date sort order.
Am I missing something - is this possible?

I am in the same boat. Although sort by date is checked off but later when you import something the projects are not sorted by date but sort by date is still checked off.

  • How to control photo sort order in flickr publish folder

Using LR 5.3 and trying to control the sort order of photos in a Publish folder (Flickr). When I drag-and-drop the photos, they never end up in the location indicated by  the dark black bar that appears under the mouse cursor. Usually appear within 5 or 6 places of the dropped location, but sometimes up to 20 places away from the dropped location. Futzing with the location sometimes gets them closer, but not always. It's very frustrating. I've seen comments about certain restrictions for manual sorting (e.g. not feasible in Smart Collections), but no specific reference to sorting in a Publish service. Is there a way to put the photos into the exact order that I want in a Flickr Publish folder? (Note: drag and drop does not work correctly... that's the problem).

Click the Action icon > show view options > Arrange by none > sort by name.

  • Sort Order keeps changing

I'm using Aperture 3.1.2. My Workflow is to arrange the images by file name, group the bracketed images, select them, create an HDR image via NiK HRD Efex Pro and then add the HDR image to the group.
The problem is that after I create the HDR image the sort order in the browser (multiple images) changes. The new HDR image is moved to the very top of the browser, and the sort order is changed to manual from by file name. So I have to change the sort order back to file name to place the HDR image next to it's parents, then scroll down to the image. This gets to be very painful going through 500 + images ....

    Short answer: Close all stacks
By group, you mean that you place the images in a stack (I hope). If you have all the HDR images in the same stack as the final image (with that one set as a pick), then the way to get this to work is to close all the stacks and then choose the sort order that you want. Aperture has problems trying to decide how to sort when stacks are open. If the 1st item in the second stack was after the third item in the 1st stack but before the last item in the second stack and so on - so it just gives up. I am not certain it is a bug.
I think if you close all stacks before you create your HDR - it should be put right next to the stack with the originals so you can easily add it to that stack.

  • IPhone photo album file name sort order

I have a folder with photos in it on my Mac.  When I sync the folder to my iPhone and view the photos on the phone, the photos are not displaying in file name sort order.  The file names of the photos are numbers (001, 002, 003 etc.).  It seems the photos are being displayed in date created order and not in the file name order.  The album with photos on my Mac is arranged / sorted by the name when syncing.
Is there a way to have the photos in the iPhone album displayed in file name sort order?
    Thanks,
    David

Focus Point (not free, no ads) will allow you to rename the files, add descriptions, and sort in a variety of ways. But it won't let you do anything in the main screen except browse your photo albums or camera roll, select one, and then you can do a search within that album or camera roll--and then if and only if the photo has a filename or description can you search for it. Bottom line: be sure to give your photos a proper file name and add a description.

  • Sort order on sync'd photos

I'm trying to get 400+ photos onto my iPad from iPhoto. I cannot use sync because it destroys the sort order I have established in iPhoto.  Have tried to sync, have tried to export to a folder. The folder export put the photos in the sort order I want but when I transfer to iPad - once again they are scrambled.  Photos that have names like pix-1, pix-2, ... appear all over the album.  Does anyone know how to keep the sort order when transferring (by any means) to the iPad?

What sort order do you have selecting in the sort drop-down?  There is no "correct" sort order.  You can sort on any metadata you can show in the Browser.  The sort drop-down is located in the top border of the Browser, near the left corner.  Every container in Aperture retains the sort order it last had.  When you manually move an Image in the Browser, the sort order is changed to "Manual".

  • 8.1 did not sort the sort order for events in photos app

With 7000 photos in more than 300 events You must have them in alphabetic order as before in 7.1 The pictures are synced from iMac iPhoto. How to do a search. The events are not found by names

When I drag albums into the correct order in Photos for Mac, they show up in reverse order on the iOS devices. Thus there seems to be a bug in either iOS 8.3, OS 10.10.3 or iCloud Photo Library.
The browser version of iCloud Photo Library (icloud.com) is currently updating. I am waiting to see which way my albums are sorted there.
There is no promise at all, or documented anywhere, how sorting of library items will sync across the devices. This has been haphazard when syncing iPhoto Libraries - synced faces not sorted, synced events  not sorted, etc. So it is at least a step in the right direction, in Photos that the albums are sorted at all.

  • When ordering enlarged photos from iPhoto, must I purchase them one at a time and pay a shipping fee for each and very one of them.  Sort of a ripoff but I can't figure how to purchase many and pay one shipping fee.

You may have better luck posting in the iPhoto forum if no one on this forum is able to assist. I'm sure you are doing something wrong though.
