Sort order of Imessages and SMS

In previous IOS versions, when you deleted a Imessage or an SMS, the sort order of message automatically changed to last date. In IOS 8.1 the sort order
doesn´t do this, which means that if you delete a message send today and the one before that was sent yesterday, the message is not moved "down" my list and counted as from yesterday it still stays as if it was sent today.
Could you please fix this.
Thx (Apple 6 User)

The issue isn't really the T in The Beach Boys. The issue is the inconsistency between the sort in Finder, the playlist sort in the side bar, and the sort within Music.
1) If you make a smart playlist The Beach Boys, it will be sorted in the side bar under T, not under B.
2) If you make a smart playlist 409 (containing The Beach Boys' song 409), it will be sorted at the top before the letter A. In Music, it will be at the bottom, after the letter Z.
While this behavior may be of long standing, it is still inconsistent. I think we should be given an option as to how we want to sort numbers and punctuation marks. I assume that the american english sort order is not imposed on other language versions of iTunes. It shouldn't be difficult to allow the sort to match the locale of the computer, so that iTunes sorts match Finder sorts.
P.S. Most of my files are wave files from old records and tapes. I chose to name The Beach Boys The Beach Boys and The Beatles Beatles, i.e., I chose to put one under T and one under B. Only The Band, The Beach Boys, The Who, and The Soul Stirrers were worthy of the extra The, to be sorted under the T's where I wanted them to be (sorry Beatles).

  • Receive iMessage and SMS text in one window

I was wondering if anyone knows of a setting or whether its even possible to receive an iMessage from an iPad and a SMS text from a non Apple phone within one chat window when they both are coming from the same person. Someone text's me throughout the day from her non iPhone. When she gets home and hops on her iPad, she sends me messages from iMessage. This opens two different chat windows. Any way to fix this?

I'm sorry, Apple will not read this. They do not participate in the forum. If you would like to provide them with feedback about this, you can do that HERE. Then click on the appropriate link. While switching between iMessage and SMS in a single conversation is possible, remember as I said, you are conducting two separate conversations, because they are coming from two separate devices, that are actually crossing platforms.

  • I know that I can back up my iMessages and SMS to iTunes and iCloud but I was wondering if it's possible to access them?  Can I view my messages on my computer for example?

I was hoping to find an application that will back my iMessages and SMS directly to my e-mail so that I could view them on there.  Does anyone know if an app like this exists?  So far all I've been able to figure out is how to back everything up to iTunes and iCloud; however, I don't know how to actually see my messages on iTunes/iCloud.  Is that possible?
    Thank you!

You may want to investigate the following app (don't think it moves them to your email, but you can view them on your computer): http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php

  • I understand the difference between imessage and SMS but when I text a friend who always got iMessages in the past, everything I send her is SMS (green) even if we both have wifi. She has an iphone.

I understand the difference between imessage and SMS but when I text a friend who used to receive imessages (blue), my phone shows I'm sending her SMS (green) messages. No longer are they blue. She has an iphone and this happens when we are both connected to wifi. We have both recently updated to ios7. Thanks!

  • How do i copy imessages and sms onto icloud?

how do i copy imessages and sms on to icloud?

You can't copy messages to iCloud.  Your iMessages are completely separate from iCloud and you don't need an iCloud account to use iMessage.  Your sms messages are sent from your cellular provider and also have no connection to iCloud.
If you are trying to receive your iMessages on your other devices, just sign into iMessage with the same Apple ID (in Settings>Messages>Send & Receive).

  • HT201287 iMessage and SMS in the same conversation?

My iMessage and SMS conversations are not linked in the same conversation. How can that be? I have linked my Apple ID and my phone number already, so I can't find the problem... Anyone out there who might be able to help?

You may have had your email checked for the iMessage conversations
At any rate - the conversations cannot be merged on your phone
If you leave only your phone number checked - the SMS and iMessage conversations merge into one

  • Is there a good texting app for a Macbook air that will sync with my iPhone and iPad iMessage and SMS?

is there a good texting app for a Macbook air that will sync with my iPhone and iPad iMessage and SMS?

    Hey bishopcheen,
Great question! Apple has announced that these features are coming in iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite. For more information, check out the “Messages” section of this page:
    Apple - OS X Yosemite - Apps
    http://www.apple.com/osx/preview/apps/
Messages gives you so many ways to start a conversation. When your iPhone is nearby, you can send a text message from your Mac to groups of friends, even if they use SMS. Or send a photo of your epic karaoke birthday party, then follow it up with a Soundbite audio clip of your encore performance. With Messages, it’s not just what you say, it’s however you want to say it.
Now every message on your iPhone appears on your Mac.
Messages on your Mac has always been a great way to stay in touch. But friends without iMessage couldn’t be part of the conversation. Well, now they can be. All the SMS and MMS messages you receive on your iPhone now appear on your Mac. So you can text any friend without picking up your iPhone. And the conversation stays up to date across all your devices.
iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite are coming this fall. I hope you are as excited as I am!
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • IMessage and SMS fallback - how does it work?

    Hi community,
I am really struggling to understand how iMessage works when the receiver use iMessage normally but does not have a data connection for whatever reason (but does have normal GSM cellphone signal).  People are saying that iMessage is intelligent and will fall-back on SMS if the recipient is not contactable on iMessage - but this seemingly DOES NOT HAPPEN.  It only automatially falls-back on SMS if the sender (ie. me) does not have data coverage - which is useless, I know when I dont have data - I can work that one out for myself thank-you-very-much Apple.
My friends on limited data plans will often turn their mobile-data off (from the settings menu) to save on $ charges and on battery life.  I of course, never know exactly when they have done this.  So at various times when they have data enabled iMessage will discover the link between their apple ID and phone number and automatically start using iMessage - which is great.  However if on a subsequent day they turn their data off, I will try to message them and they will never receive it but I will get no clear indication on my end that this has failed.  It might be 2 or 3 days until they turn their data back on, or stumble into a free hotspot until they get my message.
The same happened when I went abroad but in reverse - I turned my data off, yet my family's phones were still trying to send me iMessage messages, I didn't get them for several days until I connected my iPad to a hotel's WiFi.
So the only way I can be sure messages get through to my friends and family and that my friends and family can get through to me in a timely manner is for us ALL to disable iMessage completely.  Making iMessage pointless.
Please prove me wrong, but I cannot get it to function in any other way.

I remember having sent an iMessage to one of my friends and I was wondering why it firstly was sent as an iMessage and then obviously got sent another time, this time the bubble turned green so I knew it was an SMS. Later I asked him why this might probably have happened and he told me he was doing a phone call and fell back to GSM, and he wasn't connected to WiFi.
So my impression is that iMessage indeed also screens whether the recipient has internet connection or not. If he doesn't, the iPhone will send an SMS.
    Regards

  • Differences in sort order between iTunes and iPod

Can someone explain how the sort order of artists / albums works? It seems that it is different between iTunes and the iPod. In iTunes (7.3.1) I can enter data in the fields for Artist, Album Artist, Sort Artist and Sort Album Artist. When I get the tracks to appear in the order I want in iTunes, it doesn’t seem to transfer across to my iPod. I know there are some differences in how the sort order works in both, but how is it different?

I believe the new sort order only works on the new iPods (Nano and Video)

  • Sort Order for Legend and X Axis

Does anyone know of a way to keep a specific sort order for both the X Axis and the Legend. Both start with numbers and I can get one or the other to sort correcly on the chart but not both. Biggest problem is not all of the legend items are in the first X Axis item so the colors change on the bar graph depending on the legend items in the first X Axis item.

If you tie bar colors with values, how you will differentiate the bars for different legends.
Take an example, there are three columns Employee, Location and salery have following values
    Employee Location Salery
    A London 30000
    B Chicago 40000
    C London 50000
    D Chicago 60000
if we keep Location as Legend and Employee in X Axis, and sort Legend first then Employee. Set Blue for Chicago and Red for London, First two blue bars for A and C will be displayed and then two red bars for B and D will be displayed. Order in X axis will be A,C,B and D. This is not in sequence but this is the way it will and it should work. If you sort by Employee instead if Location, you will get sequence in X axis, but the same colored bars wont be together.
    Thanks

  • How can I have IMessage and SMS in the same thread

My boyfriend has an iPad mini and a non Apple phone that sends SMS.  I know have two separate threads in messages, one for iMessage and one for SMS.  Even though I have added his email that is used to send iMessages to his contact on my phone, it is still showing as two different conversations on my phone.  Is there a way that I can see both types of message as one conversation?  I hope this makes sense.

  • What's the difference with iMessage and SMS when not on wifi?

What's the difference when I use iMessage vs SMS? I know iMessage is only to Apple products. So when my messages uses iMessage when I'm not connected to wifi, would it go onto my data or texting? Thanks

what if people dont know how to do that.

    Here's one way to test:

Send a message to an Apple user.  If it goes, it would be sent via iMessage.  If it doesn't go, your carrier does not support iMessage.
Another way is to send a message to an Apple user with just Settings > WiFi = "Off".
If it's blue or the message says "iMesage" at the top, it went via iMessage.
If it's green, it went via SMS text message.
    Good luck!

  • IPhone 5 - iMessage and SMS not working

I was unaware that I wasn't received messages.  I don't text that often and didn't realize until yesterday that I hadn't received any messages until a friend told me she had been trying to text me.   I managed to send one text and receive 2 from her, but that's it.  I've sent several since then and they all show as sent, but apparently have disappeared into the ether since no one has received them.  I also haven't been able to receive any other texts.  I've tried a network reset twice, rebooting the phone, etc.  Any suggestions?  Thanks!

I didn't do a restore yet, but it seems like iMessage is working for me now, but not SMS.  I don't have time tonight, but I think I'll try the restore tomorrow and see if that helps.

  • Message thread with mixed iMessage and SMS participants, but I can only send iMessages

So I have a long running thread with a group of friends, some of us use iPhones and others do not. My phone used to understand this and would automatically just send SMS messages in the thread. However, now my phone will not do anything but send iMessages in the thread. It still automatically sends an SMS if I send a text to someone who doesn't use iMessage if its not in the thread. I have tried everything to get it to recognize that it needs to send SMS in this thread, but the only solution I have found so far is to completely turn off iMessage.
I had an iPhone 5 and updated to a 6 and everything was still working fine. This issue started immediately after I set up text message forwarding to my macbook and iPad. I would prefer not to delete the thread itself and start a new one with the same people but it seems that may be the only option i have left.

If you have Send as SMS enabled on your phone, your next step is to contact your cellular carrier to troubleshoot with them.

  • How do I send a group text that includes both iMessage and SMS users?

i Have an ex-iMessage user that I text quite often.  How do I include them in a group text?  how do I send SMS texts with my iPhone 5s?

Whether or not everyone gets the response depends solely on the person responding. i.e. you send a group text and i am one of the reciepients. From here i have two options, reply to the group text (everyone gets my reply) or i could text just you on the side (by opeining a new window in messages with just you as the reciepient) and replying to just you. Theres nothing you can do, its up to the person replying whether or not they reply to the entire group or just you seperately.
