Sort photos by import date?

I want to delete all the photos that I imported about 3 imports ago. There's over 6,000 and they're not mine, but they're scattered all over because iPhoto wants to sort them by date! Is there some add-on or hack to make it sort by import date?

iPhoto does not allow you to sort by import session, like Aperture does.Have the photos that you want to delete been taken with a different camera?
Then creating a smart album with all photos that have not been taken with your camera might help:
New > Smart album
If you are using more than one camera, you could add several rules by pressing "+".

  • How to sort photo events by date and avoid having duplicated photos on iPhone 6+

How to sort photo events bby date and avoid having duplicated photos. Before the sorting by date worked perfectly by specifying "sort events by date ascending" in iPhoto from my Mac. Now the sorting from iPhoto has no more effect on the iPhones. And photos are often duplicated when synchronisin. Before these problems didn't happen. How to do?

You can not  --  neither automatically or manually - you should never be in the masters folder and there is never a need to be - iPhoto is a SQLite database and it's database structure is determined by it (and changes from time to time) - use the supported access methods (direct access to the photo files is not supported and never has been) - either using iPhoto or using the media browser in the lower left hand corner of every open/attach/iupload window
It is CRITICAL that you NEVER make any changes of any sort to the structure or content of the iPhoto library using the finder or any program other than iPhoto

  • Is it possible to sort photos by the date imported?

The majority of my photos were taken without the date being set in the camera.
In previous versions of iphoto it appeared as though each time I imported images (now called an event) the events were put in the order that they were imported.
I would like to go back to that method of ordering, on a temporary basis this will allow me to try estimate the date that each event took place because at least the events would be in chronological order.
Right now my events are completely unordered because of wrong dates.

I'm assuming that in addition to not having the date set in your camera you had not renamed the rolls in iPhoto 6 so every event is now titled "Untitled event"
The only way to fix your dates that comes to mind is to go back to iPhoto 6, go through all your rolls and name them 'Roll "date"' or even 'roll n' then reimport into iPhoto 7.0.2 . that way the events will be in the same order that the rolls were in iPhoto 6 and you can use the iPhoto "photos menu ==> adjust date and time" or "photos menu ==> batch change ==> set date" to modify the dates so the events work
Before doing anything I'd download Old Toad's library back up and do that (see pretty much any of his posts for instructions)

  • Image capture and sort photos correctly by date (SOLUTION)

    Hello all:
+Image Capture+ has a hard time sorting photos properly unless you use the YEAR-MONTH-DAY short date format.
For example, if you try viewing photos on a memory card and your date format is month/day/year +Image Capture+ will first sort your photos by month, then date and finally year. If you list photos by day/month/year it'll first sort on day, then month, and finally year. Get the picture?
The solution is simple once you see the pattern:
Set your SHORT date format to YEAR-MONTH-DAY in System Preferences -> International -> Formats -> Dates/Customize.
Drag the colourful icons so you have the SHORT date format as 2010/01/05 (or 2010/1/5 if you don't use 0 in front of days or months).
As an aside: I do find it slightly amusing that the most logical date format (there's no ambiguity as to whether someone used mm/dd/yyyy by mistake instead of dd/mm/yyyy) is the one that works "best" with Image Capture.

This had been driving me CRAZY! Thanks so much for posting this.
Now if I could only get my iPhone 4 Camera Roll to list all the pics in date order as well... I restored them from a 3GS back-up and now they're in a jumbled mess.

  • How do you sort photo albums in date order instead of alphabetic order?

I am sorry that I ran afoul of the user guidelines, I'll remove the rant if I can.  I certainly did not intend my  gripe to target the helpful responder.  And yes, I did provide the feedback to Apple.  I'm just used to such feedback going into a "black hole".  Which this almost certainly does because this problem has existed for years (I Googled for an answer first.)  However, it should be noted that company's tend to respond to feedback that is very public if they want to keep a good name in the business.  The private feedback through the program is like a quiet whisper, only the two parties involved know about it, so there is no real incentive for prompt action.

  • Sort by import date?

I've discovered there is no obvious, and probably even no way at all to sort photos by import date. I tried to reimport photos from a disk to iphoto and then burn them to a seperate disk...only to discover that once the photos were imported the only way to find the duplicates was to go through my hundreds of photos visually. No other present/preset way of doing it. I can confirm by "get(ing) info" but can't sort by the needed criteria to send to the trash.
Pretty frustrating. Newly reimported photos were highlighted until I tried to create a folder to put them in...then they were mixed in with everything else.
Any ideas short of one at a time?

Yes, in essence that's what I was trying to do. Checked out the link and that would do what I needed...just wish there was more sorting/searching flexibility in iPhoto, then wouldn't need anything else.
Anyhow, went through today and was able to delete the duplicates. Didn't buy the shareware, so wound up doing it manually. The trial version wouldn't let me sort through enough photos to get the job done. Thanks for the link though.

  • Photos by modified dates?

Does the 5th Gen iPod still sort photos by modified dates only?.
If not, will 5th Gen now import a multifolder/file archive as a duplicate of an original foldered photo archive from a Mac HD via iTunes as I do not want to rename/duplicate folders or files via iPhoto.
If so will slide shows now display in original order - older folder/files first and not mixed as in 4th Gen iPod?.
    Thanks.

    Ok Mike,
I have 200 folders each containing scanned images from 35mm film. Each folder holds 36 files/photos (1 film for each folder).
The folder names are from oldest first:- 35mm'-'IMAGES-0001
    up to 35mm'-'IMAGES-0200
The file names within in each folder are:-
    35mm'-'0001-01 up to 35mm'-'0001-36.
    (35mm'-' ='s film type / 0001 up to 0200='s folder number & 01 to 36='s file number)
This same type of index has also been created for slides, prints and digital (the digital also includes the odd Avi file within the sequence-that I will convert?!)
If you are able to understand the above. Do you think it will sync via iTunes as you have said or will my numbers mix it all up?
Will the converted Avi's display between the Photos or are they placed in a seperate area on iPod and viewed by themselves.
If you are able to help I would be very very pleased.
I take it that you are on 5th Gen iPod.
    Thank you.

  • How to sort photos in albums by date in iPhoto '11

For some reason that I have yet to divine, iphoto 11 jumbles the order of photos in any album I create. For example, I have an album called 'Family', and rather than display the photos by the date they were taken, it jumbles them into a mish mash of images. I took 50 pics yesterday and imported them last night. I opened iphoto today to make some edits, and the photos have been dispersed throughout an album of thousands of images. I know I can go and examine the images in 'Events' or 'Photos', but I'd like to see them in context with the rest of my family photos.
Is there some way to get albums to sort photos by date taken like the older versions of iphoto?
    Thanks in advance,
    Peter

I may be getting confused with what you need here but does going to:
"View --> Sort Photos --> By Date" solve things?

  • Sort Photos by date

After many tragic disk crashes and other issues I am left with 3600 photos in one folder. I want to import these into a new iPhoto 08 library with the photos sorted by date created. When I import the folder is shows as a single event with all the pictures under that date. How do I have iPhoto sort photos with the same creation dates into separate events based on creation dates upon import?

Have you selected the event and used the autosplit event command?

  • How can I sort photos by date taken in Photos for OS X

Photos sort by Moments, which seems badly broken - photos from one date and location end up in multiple moments, while one moment can have photos from multiple dates and locations.  Photos are not in date/time order.
Photos under Albums sort by date/time of import - useless.
How can I see my photos sorted by date/time taken?

I'd like this feature as well. I tend to browse my photos by date in Aperture, but on ios thay always appear in some bizzare random order.
I've tried several workarounds but with no luck. As metadata is present, surely this should be simple...

  • I loaded my ipad photos from camera and all the pictures sorted by date.  Next, I did a sync with my computer and the photos were all reorganized into IMPRT folders an out of date sequence.  Any idea how to put the photos back into date files?

I loaded my ipad photos from camera and all the pictures sorted by date.  I later sync my ipad with my computer and the photos were all reorganized into IMPRT folders an out of date sequence.  Any idea how to put the photos back into date files other than reloading all of them from camera?

    What version of iPhoto?
Select one and rotate it. Then rotate it back. Does that make it appear?
A much better work flow is the keep the photos after importing.  Check the success the import, wait for at least one successful backup cycle then use you camera's format command to reformat the card

  • I have a large number of photos imported into iPhoto with the dates wrong.  How can I adjust multiple photos (with varying dates) to the same, correct, date?

I have a large number of photos imported into iPhoto with the dates wrong.  How can I adjust multiple photos (with varying dates) to the same, correct, date?

If I understand you correctly, when you enter a date in the Adjust Date and Time window, the picture does not update with the date you enter.  If that is the case then something is wrong with iPhoto or your perhaps your library.
How large a date change are you putting in?  iPhoto currently has an issue with date changes beyond about 60 years at a time.  If the difference between the current date on the image and the date you are entering is beyond that range that may explain why this is not working.
If that is not the case:
Remove the following to the trash and restart the computer and try again:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.iphoto
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iPhoto (There may be more than one. Remove them all.)
---NOTE: to get to the "home > library" hold down option on the keyboard and click on "Go" > "Library" while in the Finder.
    Let me know the results.

  • In iPhoto if I select View, then Sort Photos by title, how do I stop it reverting to sorting by date when I close iPhoto and re-open it later?

In iPhoto if I select View, then Sort Photos by title, how do I stop it reverting to sorting by date when I close iPhoto and re-open it later?

In what mode, Events, Photos or in an Album, are you when you select View ➙ Sort ➙ By Title?
As a first fix attempt try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • HT4236 Hello, does anyone have any advice on how to sort photos in an albumn on an Iphone by date of photo? I've ordered them all in my Pictures but then when I sync them across through Itunes, they all end up in a jumble on my phone. Thanks!

Hello, does anyone have any advice on how to sort photos in an albumn on an Iphone by date of photo? I've ordered them all in my Pictures but then when I sync them across through Itunes, they all end up in a jumble on my phone. Thanks!

When viewing an album on the iPhone you can tap "Photos" at the bottom and that will show all photos by date. Unfortunately though it is all photos, not just the album you are currently viewing.
What I have done is the following. On the computer I have a main folder (e.g. iPhone photos) and then make sub-folders within that. Placing photos that will be synched to the iPhone into various subfolders gives quite a bit of organizational capablility. In iTunes when you select the main folder to sync, the sub-folders will show on the iPhone as separate albums. Beyond that, in one case where I really wanted a specific sort within an album I renamed the photos on the computer (something like A-picxxx, B-picxxx) so they sorted on the computer alphabetically in the order I want on the phone. That sort order was maintained after the sync.
Note that each time you sync using iTunes, the non-Camera Roll pictures on the phone will be set to match the current iTunes settings/photos -- so you can experiment.
