Sort Problem with "My Podcasts"

Since updating to iTunes 11.1, the list of "My Podcasts" are in an indiscernible random order (not by date, name, etc.) and I see no way of forcing them into alphabetical order.  This makes this particular screen useless since the order also seems to change on me.  Is there a way to sort this list, or am I missing something obvious?

It looks like you can manually drag and drop them into your chosen order. Of course, this is a major headache, but like you can I can't see a way to automatically sort them alphabetically.
(To be honest I've never used the "My Podcasts" view, because I didn't like it before, but now the "List" view is basically unusable.)

  • Here's My Problem With the Podcasts App

So, here's my problem with the Podcasts app on my iPhone 5 - it relies too heavily on streaming and not enough on downloading and syncing. For most of my 8 hrs at work each day I am out of contact with my wireless carrier. And the hospitals IT dept has chosen to block whatever port the Podcasts app uses to stream content. So nothing over Wi-Fi either.
As a result, all podcasts must being fully downloaded and ready to listen to prior to leaving for work. Unfortunately, even after fiddling with various settings in the app, I can't seem to get content to stick in the app. There are plenty of Unplayed episodes, but when I'm ready to listen, they're not really there and must be re-downloaded or streamed.
Here's what I am going to try:
    • iTunes will continue do all of the downloading and syncing of podcasts to my iPhone
    • In each Podcast on the iPhone I have Subscribe "ON" and Auto-Download "OFF"
I'm going to try this setup for a few days and see if it resolves my issue. Would appreciate any other observations and suggestions you might have. Cheers!

    Simple really:
Delete the Podcasts app from your iPhone.
    Restart your iPhone.
Continue managing your podcasts from iTunes, like you did under iOS 5.
After restarting your phone, Podcasts will play via the Music app on your phone again.

  • Please help I have problems with songs, podcasts, and just general media play

hey guys, I'll get straight into it. My problem is that many of the songs and podcasts in my library come up with the little exclamation mark when I havn't changed anything or deleted anything, so I have to find the original files, which occasisionally just dissapear for no apparent reason. Also I have problems with d/l podcasts as sometimes it wont d/l the newest edition etc but comes up with the little '!' mark. I have just upgraded to iTunes 7 and although the problem was occuring before the upgrade just aggravated it, and messed up my library files causing me to revert to an older library.
Now last and most importantly, my audio has suddenly become choppy since I upgraded. This is similar to the problem I have with the sound in Quicktime only working properly if I keep all other apps and tasks to a bare minimum (even if they take up barely any system resources). This seems strange as my system is not exactly poor performance.
    Thanks in advance guys !

    Hi,
If you right click a file, and do getinfo on the summary page this will give a file location, is this matching the file location on your hard disk? If not that might explain the exclamation marks?
    Kind Regards
    Rich

  • Problems with unheard podcast playlists in iTunes 10.X

I listen to a lot of podcasts and, as such, I have a smart playlist for them called "unheard of" which selects out everything of:
    *Type = podcast* and
    *Play count < 1*
This has had issues over the years, but right now the problem is that periodically it stops populating. I get new podcasts, but they don't go into the list. This usually gets resolved if I restart iTunes, but that brings me to the next issue…
    1. When I run into problems with iTunes and try to restart it, often it won't restart. The window goes away, but the dock icon indicates Application not responding. I've let this sit overnight sometimes, but the result is always the same — I must +force quit+ it. It feels like these two things are related.
    2. When I run into problems with iTunes and try to restart it, often it won't restart. The window goes away, but the dock icon indicates Application not responding. I've let this sit overnight sometimes, but the result is always the same — I must force quit it. It feels like these two things are related.
On a related note, why is the default setting for podcasts to have *Skip when shuffling = yes*? There appears to be no way to change this default behaviour and this means I have to go in and select all my podcasts before I sync my iPhone and change this value. I don't even see to see any way to access this via AppleScript or I'd change it that way. The worst is that this seems an entirely arbitrary setting to begin with. What is the benefit?
Oh, and I'm running the latest of everything, including OS X 10.6.5 and iTunes 10.1.

This is still not resolved and I seem to find that if I put my machine to sleep and then wake it from sleep, the playlist problem appears and iTunes will hang (stops responding) if I try to shut it down. Can anyone help me?

  • Problems with deleted Podcasts from iPod Touch (Проблема с удалением)

I have a problem with the removal of podcasts on my iPod Touch (firmware version 2.2, iTunes 8.0.2.20)
Some time ago, through the iPod Touch I downloaded some podcasts, at other times from the computer, after all synchronized (rewritten podcasts from my computer and ipod). Today I want to delete everything and in sync to my iPod settings, I took a tick synchronization and applied. After all the playlists from podcast has been cleared, but the files themselves remain as the free space was at 3 Gb fewer regulations.
Using SharePod checked their version and proved that SharePod saw no deleted files to be erased, but because version of the database other than the fact that he could understand the program, I can not remove them. Please help.

You can only sync with one computer. I would backup to one computer and then restore from backup.

  • Problems with new podcast

    Hi,
I'm having problems with my new podcast. It's already been approved and release and when I look at it on the iTunes Music Store I can listen to my mp3 file without a problem but when I subscribe to it my podcast list doesn't show any files!!! Please help!

    Okay, I took a look at your podcast (in the Store . . . then I subscribed to it . . . then I looked at it in a browser). Anyway . . .
The reason your podcast doesn't work when subscribed-to is that you have some bad code in your rss file. Here is the run-down from Feed Validator.
The highlights are: 1) you have a "bad" (unsupported) character in your <copyright> tag; 2) the <itunes:description> tag only goes under the <item> level, and shouldn't be under <channel>; 3)you have two <pubDate> tags, and instead of "6 May", you need to have "06 May"; 4) you have too many keywords in your <itunes:keywords> tag; 5) you are missing the <itunes:explict> tag.
Those are a lot of things for you to fix - and the reason I list them is that I want you to understand what is/was wrong with your feed. But since it is quite a bit, I went through and edited your code:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <rss xmlns:itunes="http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd" version="2.0">

Now, all that you have to do is copy the above code and paste it over the old code in your file. This should fix all of your problems with iTunes.

  • Is anyone having problems with the podcast app

I am having problems getting my podcasts to run.  When I hit play if comes up and says...
    Episode Unavailable
This episode is temporarily unavailable from
I have deleted the podcasts app and reinstalled it and then re-subscribed to the podcasts and it still doesn't

Do you do any kind of sync'ing between your iPhone and iTunes on your computer? There seem to be a number of major bugs in Apple's code (either in in the Podcasts app, or in iTunes, or in Apples server-side code, or some combination of the three).  Many people are having this issue.  In fact, it's hard to believe that anyone isn't, if they're sync'ing their iPhone with iTunes.
See this thread for more details of people experiences your problem:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5477034
If I don't sync my phone with iTunes, this particular problem doesn't show up (although there are still other sync'ing bugs that do show up).

  • Problems with my podcast updating on Podcast App.

    Hi folks.
My podcast What It Is, updates on iTunes very quickly after we post it on our wordpress blog. However, we are having some major issues with the podcast on the podcast app.
-The episodes do not update on the podcast app. You need to go to the search function, search the show and then download the new episode. The auto download and updates DO NOT work for our subscribers.
-The names of the episodes do not appear on the Podcast app, as well. It just says 'whatitispodcast' for every epsiode when viewing the show in the podcast app. It is also showing the relase date of every episode as 2011-12-31
Should I send an email to iTunes support or is there a problem I can fix?
    Thanks folks.
    -Taylor

Oh man, I really love this question. It's so uncommon!

  • Problem with my podcast downloading to iTunes

The last 2 days, my podcast http://www.rippernet.com/Rippercast/Podcast/Podcast.html has been unable to be downloaded via the iTunes Music Store. People can subscribe ok and have the episodes downloaded into iTunes but cannot get it via it's Music Store page. I get the error message "There was a problem downloading 'Rippercast-Your Podcast on the Jack the Ripper Murders'. The URL http://www.rippernet.com/Site/Podcast/rss.xml" could not be found on the server." It worked fine for roughly month up until this.
I use iWeb and iDisk with a dotmac account for my podcast.
Yesterday I used Dreamweaver to add a line into the rss feed for Music Store artwork, but was having problems a day before this.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Jonathan

I've gone into the rss.xml file located on my idisk at Web/Sites/RC/Podcast and edited it in Dreamweaver to input the 'itunes new feed url' script to match the one that itunes says it cannot find.
What seems to have happened is that my Url was changed somehow from "rippernet/Site Podcast" to "rippernet/rippercast/podcast/podcast"
Is this the right rss.xml file I edit for the iTunes Music Store? Does it just take a while for iTunes M.S. to refresh?
Is there any support for helping mac podcasters deal with these iWeb-iDisk-iTunes Music Store issues? I don't even know if the problem is on my end or lies with iTunes. I'd rather not tinker anymore with the rss.xml file if I'm not even sure the rss feed is the problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I record 2 podcasts this weekend and the next 4 weeks are booked with guests.
    Thanks

I'm having the same problem! The "subscribe" buttons do not seem to be activated.
Further - I had subscribed to some Podcasts successfully in the past - and they are GONE. Can't find any Podcast folder or content anywhere. I'm not sure if they went away with an itunes update or whether some family member decided to clean house and won't admit it.

  • Sorting problem with baseball averages

Please help.  I am new to iworks and am learning as I go.  Overall I really just love it.  Here is the proect that I am working on:  I am doing a spreadsheet with the statistics for my son's baseball team.  The spreadsheet looks really great.  What I have is the following:  individual averages for each player, and at the bottow of the row of averages, the overall team average.
The problem is that when I try to sort the row decending averages, the row does show the highest to the lowest average, but instead of leaving the team average at the very bottom, it is placing it within the individual team averages.  So if the team average is .263, then the team average may end up between an average for a child of .300 and another with .250.   How do I correct this so that the team average remains at the very bottom?
Also, the Averages display as 0.333.  How do I get rid of the 0 in front of the .3?
    thanks!!

    Hi Docal,
Place the AVERAGE formula into a Footer Row. Header and Footer Rows are not included in sorts.
The leading zero on the averages, although not in line with baseball practices, is mathematically correct notation.
You can eliminate it by setting a custom format for cells in that column.
Drag the Decimals element to the format box, select it, and press the up arrow key to add a third decimal place.
Then, click the Integers Element placed in the box by default and press delete to delete it.
These steps have been completed in the illustration.
    Regards,
    Barry

  • Update problem with my podcast

I have submitted a new (french) podcast last week and it doesn't seem to be updating in iTunes.
It does appear in the browser's list if you suscribe the podcast for the first time and if you check at the XML, but if you "update" manually the podcsat it doesn't appear automatically.

No problem. Your English is better than mine...and it's my only language.
I was able to subscribe and download all of your videos...either by the "Get All" button or the "get" button next to each episode.
The error about the server may be caused by network problems or iTunes timing out. If you try to download a lot of videos at the same time (such as with the "Get all" button) iTunes may time out waiting for some downloads to start (your server and network can only handle so much at one time)....and gives an error. Try downloading the episode that gave the error after the other downloads complete using the "Get" button.
Remember that the iTunes client software is on a schedule as to when it checks for new episodes and what it does when it finds one. In your iTunes preferences under "Podcasts" are options the default is to check "everyday". Meaning that if it checked at 8am on Monday it won't check again until 8am on Tuesday. The other options are what it does when it finds a new episode...the default is to download the latest episode. There are options to "do nothing" and "download all".
    ayez un beau jour !

  • Safari problem with m4v - podcasts

I created a proper podcast with quicktime etc which launches CORRECTLY in firefox, internet explorer and opera. in Safari, however, on clicking the podcast, a CODE windo is launched, so there is obviously some error somewhere.
    Any ideas? thank you

The problem is in your page code (or lack of it).
Your "links" to the videos are direct to the files. Bad form as this bypasses the html code needed to call the correct browser plug-in.
A click on a link forces the browser to try and open the file in a new window and your server isn't properly configure (MIME types) to serve .m4v files.
So those .m4v open in a new browser window and display as text (gibberish).
You could learn how to properly code using object and embed tags or javascript that would call the browser plug-in (a lot of work) or simply tell your visitors to "right-click" on the links and choose to "Download Linked File" from the pop up menu.

  • Can you identify the problem with my podcast xml?

I've checked this with the suggested feed checker and all looks good yet my podcasts are not showing up in itunes (well over a week now)
    http://www.hbnradioshow.com/itunes.xml
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you,
    George

Your feed appears to be OK, and when subscribed to manually in iTunes (from the 'Advanced' menu) all the episodes appear. (However the categories are obsolete: you should choose your categories from those listed here.)
I couldn't find your podcast in the Store by searching, so as you haven't given its URL I can't check that.
Several people have complained recently that the Store is being very slow to update new episodes: it usually takes 1-2 days but it's sometimes been a lot more, and I'm afraid that you seem to be stuck in the same problem. There isn't really anything you can do about it as your feed is OK.
You could try iTunes Support - they often aren't as helpful as one would wish (you are likely to get a form answer telling you to update a podcast, which you already know) but possibly it's worth trying. Go to http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ - click on 'Other iTunes Store Features' in the list and then on 'Podcasts'. You will see a link to 'Express Lane', which will guide you eventually to some contact options.

  • IPhone 4S and iOS 6 - Problem with downloading podcasts from iTunes

Along with all the other issues (Wi-Fi, Maps, etc) I have now found a new problem for my iPhone.  I am unable to transfer any files (Podcasts, Music, Movies, etc) or sync with iTunes.  I am using the most current version of iTunes (10.7), and have restarted my phone to see if that would help.  This problem only started today, about 10 days after downloading and installing iOS 6.  Any help is appriciated.

Try after some time. If it does not solve your problem, your iPhone was jailbroken. That's why the message.
