Sort Search Results by Topics in Forums

Hi,
is it possible to sort the search results by topics? Because I often get a lot of hits from the same topic but in different rows.
Normally I click to a topic and browse the whole topic to look for my answer. If it is not answered it would be nice if you could skip this topic (it would be ok to have all hits of this topic one after the other) and don't find it again on place 47.
Regards, Juergen

To make this more generic. Is there any way to add columns to the search results. I would like to be able to sort by size as well.

Please restore the ability to sort search results (by song title, artists, etc). I'm on the mac desktop app. Why did you ever remove this? I often search for covers, and want to isolate the song titles from others that show up by keyword.

  • Is it so difficult for Sun to sort search result and duke stars ?

In the years that I have been visiting these forums I have frequently (well every year at least) asked Sun to sort the search results by reverse date. In the last few months I have asked Sun to sort the new format of the results of "My Duke Stars". Is is so difficult to add a 'order by' clause to the SQL or am I missing something?

It would be nice if they could do that, and I asked them too several months ago. It would also be nice if they told you how many points you got for an answer (not how many points were originally attached to the thread) and the date and time you got them (not the original date and time of the thread). But those changes might take more than just an ORDER BY clause. (Or they might be implemented by just choosing the right columns from joined tables, who knows?)They seem to have all the functionality already there, it's just spread out across two pages when it should be all on one.

  • Don't sort search results?

Hm, I guess there is no easy way to tell RH8 to list WebHelp search results in a very simple list and to relinquish the sort function within the search results?
    Thanx y'all.

The topics are sorted by relevance. See the RoboHelp Tour on my site.

  • Is it possible to sort search results

Is there a way to setup the order of the search results
during the project build process? Currently in my manual when a
user searches for an item, the results come up in alpha order. If
possible I would prefer to display them in order of relevance. Any
    ideas?

I see. It sort of, partly, does what I want. It seems like you can limit the search to one of the "places" that show up on the left side of Finder. So on my Mac I can choose to limit the search to Desktop, mitch, Applications, or Documents in my case (my username is mitch).
That's an improvement, but can I limit the search to subdirectory mitch/dir1/dir2? That's what I would really like.
of course. as I told you open mitch/dir1/dir2 in finder and start the search from there. the search will default to searching the whole mac but in the search toolbar you can switch to searching just this directory. and if you want you can save the result as a smart search and put in the the sideebar for quick access if you do this particular search often.
Or can I sort the search results by where they are in subdirectories?
    no, you can't do that.
    Thanks.

  • Sorting search results

Once you've searched the store and received the results, how do you sort by name, by popularity, by album etc? You used to be able to simply click on the header.

    Richard,
Couple of questions - is the property you're sorting by numeric or date?  The search server cannot sort by a text property.
Also, is this a UI customization on the search result page, or some standalone code (say, a portlet that calls the server API)?  And what portal version?  There is some unintuitive behavior in some recent releases (5.0.2 and higher) where the search results page reverts to the sort order previously set by the user.

  • Sorting search results by rank

    Hi,
Is it possible to sort the search results by rank in RH8 html help ? It works when I click on Title but not when Rank is clicked. What I mean is changing from ascending to descending order.
    Thanks,

Which version of content server do you have? In 7.x you can install a custom component named MultiSort, and in 10gR3 this is built in.
Basically you need to use a parameter named SortSpec
    example:
    http://yourserver/instance/idcplg?<original query>&SortSpec=order%20by%20dDocType%20desc,%20dDocName%20asc

  • How can I get iOS "Contacts" to sort search results on a name-first, other-fields-next basis?

Example: I type "jo sm" into the search bar in Contacts on iOS 7, expecting John Smith and Josephine Smolens to appear at the top of the list, as they are the only ones of my contacts whose name matches the pattern "jo* sm*".  Instead, they are perhaps numbers 15 and 34 on the list, as other peoples' Notes fields also contain the pattern "jo* sm*".
Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

This does not answer my question.  I apologize for my lack of clarity when I tried to explain the problem.
To clarify: I'm not using wild card characters; I was just trying to explain the behavior I get and how it's different from what I want.  Let me try again a slightly different way:
When I type "jo sm" into the Search bar in iOS 7 Contacts, I want the first results to be the people whose First Name starts with (or even just contains) "jo" and whose Last Name starts with (or contains) "sm".
Instead, I get all contacts whose Notes contain the letters "jo" and "sm" anywhere at all (which is many many people), and they are given to me in an order that seems random.  Therefore, when I type "jo sm", I don't see the contact I'm looking for because he/she is routinely three pages down the list.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Search results relating to forums

    Hello SDN,
I would like to suggest that the search results relating to the forum should be showed more like a tree, at this moment there is a display of the same topic , the same number of times people have responded to that, instead there could just one topic with + sign next to it or a down arrow.
In my opinion then one would be able to get the answer to the question quicker.
    Best regards,

  • I've found no way to sort.  For example, if I type the group "Rush" into the search bar, I get a list of songs recorded by rush and literally thousands of other songs and artists with the word rush in them. There is; however, no way to sort the results.

I've found no way to sort search results in itunes.  For example, if I type the group "Rush" into the search bar, I get a list of songs recorded by rush and literally thousands of other songs and artists with the word rush in them. There is; however, no way to sort the results.

In the Search box click on the black Arrow and UNTICK the Search Entire Library.
Then the Search results in Songs view will be displayed in the main Grid and you can sort them by clicking on the column headers.
You can also turn on the column browser which can help with filtering

  • How do I sort new iTunes store searched results (ie Popularity)?

New iTunes Store (Ver. 11.0) will not let me sort search results.
I'm almost certain this was a feature in older versions of iTunes store but can't get to work in new version.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I too am having this problem. Just searched for a song title which threw up around 300 results - I could always sort those by artist or album or time (this was really useful as I buy a lot of remixes and used to sort by time - just looked first at the longest, often), etc. Additionally I cant  widen the columne so cant see any of the titles fully even. The whole search results page seems completely useless. Classical searches will be a nightmare with hundreds of recordings and seemingly no way of sorting and cant even see the information fully. One thing I have discovered with this awful new ITunes is that after hours of playing around many things are in fact there - just in very odd places or in different (and less user friendly) set up . . . I have also had some fantastic help through these pages - thanks everoone.
This search result glitch does seem a real mistake surely ? If nothing else it makes me FAR less likley to buy - i cant find anything !  Lets hope I"they" cotton on to that effect and sortsit out . . . .

  • Search results sorting

    hello ,
    I would like to have a custom control that sort search results  ( A to Z or Z to A ), so , i created a dropdownlist with two entry : A-Z  et Z-A.
When user click A-Z , i would like that search results display in the right alphabetic order from A to Z.
How to accomplish my goal step by step ?
    Thanks.

    Hi Piing,
To sort the search results, you need to define the results to sort by which managed property.
As each result has many managed properties, I recommend to use Title managed property to sort the results.
If that is the case, then we need to write the sort dropdown like this:
    [{"name":"A-Z","sorts":[{"p":"Title","d":0}]},{"name":"Z-A","sorts":[{"p":"Title","d":1}]}].
After that, we need to edit the search results page and then edit the Search Results web part, then expand Settings and check Show sort dropdown. After that paste the above JSON inside the box and save the changes back to SharePoint.
You can refer to the link below for details about how to write the JSON inside the sort dropdown:

  • Categorize and filter enterprise search result

    Hi All,
I want to know if it is possible to categorize and filter search result based on source (ex: list or library name or external content type etc). My client does not have FAST server license.
If this is possible with enterprise search without the FAST server could you please let me know how to achieve it.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Rahul,
We could sort search results in Search center, and we need modify XSLT for search result web part.

  • Sort spotlight results?

There used to be a "date modfied" column I could use to sort search results.
Now I can only sort by "name," "kind," and "last opened."
Since I often open the wrong version, I can't use "last opened" as a parameter.
Is there maybe a 3rd party plugin for the finder that would enable me to sort spotlight results?
Or, even easier, is there a method I'm missing?
    Thanks.

Pathfinder kind of takes over your whole computer. But Forklift, which costs less, gives you dual panes and is just an amazing finder tool which uses spotlight for searches but gives you date modified. 29$.
Eventually Mac will update spotlight so that it's more useful.
It seems to me that "they" seem to want to infantilize us to death.
Apple, some of us would like a few more options. We won't get too confused. Honest.
