Sorting audiobooks on ipod

hello,
so i have downloaded an audiobook and imported it into itunes. i have converted it to m4b. so now my audiobook appears in itunes under audiobooks. so i go to my ipod select the only audiobook i have. then it shows me about 300 tracks that make up the audiobook. when i play it it shows 1 out of 1 being played. i have searched everywhere on how to fix this.
hope that made sence
many thanks andrew

Aldo on Audiobooks is probably the best reference for all things audiobook. The main problem is that the Audiobooks feature is really designed for books that have been stitched up into a single file. Personally I haven't bothered to make the extra effort and jsut have an "Audiobooks" playlist folder containing sub-folders for each author and within these playlists for each audiobook.

  • Audiobooks on iPod Classic, 3rd Gen

I just downloaded an 8-volume audiobook from my county library. The only way I can locate the book after download is through iTunes - Recently Added. I can't find it by sorting Album or Artist. When I eject the iPod, I there is no Audiobooks selection. How can I locate this book to replay it?

Ok, I guess I just got smarter because I just figured it out. I had to go to the Settings, Main Menu and make sure that Audiobooks was checked. It was previously unchecked and that's why it didn't show up on my Main Menu.
    Thanks anyway,

  • How do I sort tracks for iPod using Lion using iTunes 10??

How can I sort or modify tracks (for audiobooks) in iTunes 10.6.1 using OS 10.7.3 so they sync in the correct order for my iPod Touch? Either through iTunes or with 3rd party software is okay.

First, set the Album field for every track to the book's title. It should be identical for every track in the book, to group the tracks together. The easiest way to do this is select all of the tracks, do a File > Get Info, and set the Album to the book's title. This ensures it's the same for every track.
Here's an example of how I set the metadata on a group of audiobook tracks:
The above shot assumes that the track names themselves currently have part number information. If they don't, don't unset the field that _does_ have that information (e.g., the first track number field).
After that, tracks sort in this order:
    - Disc sequence number (xx of yy)
    - Track sequence number (aa of bb)
    - Name field
I usually set the disc sequence numbers to be empty; set the track sequence numbers to be the right order, and change the Name field to _also_ be sortable, so something like "Book Title, part 1", etc. Use the File > Get Info command on each track individually:
It's tedious, as you have to touch every track. Keep clicking that Next button! But once you've done it a couple times, and with clever use of copy/paste, it only takes a few minutes. I did this 40 track book last night in less than 5 minutes.

  • Sorting Audiobooks in iTunes

Here's my problem, this weekend I spent most of it ripping and tagging the 7 Harry Potter audiobooks into my library because I am planning a road trip and it’s a lot easier for the books to be played off the iPhone that keep switching the CDs in the car. Anyway I am a little OCD when it comes to organization and stuff. I have all my music organized by author and then year in iTunes and in the grid view and I want all the audiobooks to be in the same order. Here’s the problem first of all when right click on the header and hit sort by author, I can’t hit “within author, by years” because it is grayed out. How do I get it un grayed out so I can click on it? Secondly because as of right now I only have 1 series of audiobooks (I’m planning on ripping 2 more from CDs later) I simply sort them by year instead of by author and then year. However even with the year field all properly labeled, they don’t sort by year! This is only in grid view. Any help?

As ed2345 says, for Paul McCartney, the way to control the sort order is to use the sort fields. Find a Paul McCartney track, preferably one he has a sole composer credit on, and "Get Info.". On the sorting tab put "McCartney, Paul" into the *Sort Artist*, *Sort Album Artist* and *Sort Composer* (if applicable) fields. Click OK, now right/option/cmd-(whatever works)-click and click on *Apply Sort Field > All Matching Fields*. Repeat for each solo Artist as desired. This has to be done manually as iTunes can't hold a comprehensive directory of all artists and their "correct" sort position. In any case, sometimes people have different views on what is correct.
Again, *Album by Year* should do what you want in iTunes unless there are two albums by the same artist where the chronological order is different from the alphabetical order. Even if you put the full release date into the tag via a 3rd party tool iTunes only works with the Year value. Sorting on iPod/iPhone is always alphabetical.

  • Odd problem trying to sort audiobooks

i have quite a collection of audiobooks, that i had previously had jsut in my music library as mp3s, with large numbers of files for each one
last night i discovered a piece of software that let me join the files together to create jsut one or two files that i could then have in the audiobooks section
however, i seem to be having trouble getting them to display in the correct order
specifically i am having trouble with the discworld audiobooks
    they are titled as such:
    name: bookname - Part #
    artist: Terry Pratchett
    track number: track #
album: Discworld book # - book title
    sort album: book #
yet for some reason they appear in the wrong order currently 1,2,4,9,11,3,5,6,7,8,10
can anyone explain why they won't display in the correct numerical order
also, on the ipod itself, is there a way to get the audiobooks menu to display by artist, as presently it has all my audiobooks jumbled up ordereed alphabetically, i'd like to be able to select the author, and then have the books displayed in chronological order

  • Help with audiobooks and iPod

I downloaded/installed the applescript from Doug's Applescripts for iTunes to convert audio CD's to audiobooks in iTunes. Things went well until I synced the new audiobooks to my iPod. Below are the two major problems I've experienced.
    1. I had 3 books in my iTunes Library which were converted and made bookmarkable using Doug's applescript . As promised the books showed up in the audiobooks of iTunes. They appeared correctly (alphabetically by book title) in iTunes. However, the books were all scrambled together after being synced to my iPod. That is I had about 30 Track 1's, (3 books, 10 disks each), then 30 Track 2's, 30 Track 3's, etc. all the way through to 30 Track 99's. What did I do wrong, or did i skip a step somewhere, and how to I correct this so that I can listen to the books?
    2. The sound quality is poor. The sound is scratchy - it sounds like you are listening to an old worn out record on a turn table. Any suggestions to clear up the noise?
    3. If there is no fix for the above issues, how to I convert the books back to their original form, so that they will show in the Music playlist section of the iTunes library.
    Thanks

Hey, I have a question along similar veins. This is driving me a bit crazy.
How do I separate my various audio books into their separate folders just like how it is automatically done for music?
Right now I have a big list of all of my audio book files, and the only sorting option is apparently alphabetic.
    1. Is there a way to separate these into albums based on the album info field? I tried this and it doesn't work.
    2. Is there a way to sort and play these files based on the track number and not alphabetically? I tried track field and that didn't work either.
    Please advise,

  • Sorting Audiobooks on Nano *****

Why won't audiobooks be sorted by book instead of putting every track from every book in one long line and not in order??, Why won't audiobooks be sorted by book instead of putting every track from every book in one long line and not in order??

Audible audiobooks play extremely well on iPods and iOS devices. They generally download as 1-2 fairly large files, representing ~5-8 hours of playback each. The tracks are named so that they should always sort in the correct order on your device, so you shouldn't have difficulty playing them back.
I mostly use my iPhone for playing audiobooks, but have listened to a couple on my Nano (the first psuedo-Touch Nano). It works reasonably well.
I don't recommend using any of Audible's software for auto-loading the books onto your device. Just download them in your browser, and drag them into the iTunes Library window. iTunes will add them to your library, and you can then sync them to your device as you would any other track.
When I used Audible's software in the past (which, I must admit, was the distant past, on my wife's then-reasonably new Windows XP system) it had quirks, which were mostly designed to deal with the problem of unreliable, slow speed Internet connections. These days speed isn't usually a problem, and who's using a modem? Dropped connections are rare, and if you do, just re-download.

  • CANNOT delete audiobooks from ipod

I have just discovered audiobooks for my "reading" and love it. I have 2 books that I am done with and want to delete them from my 8g ipod. All my itunes screen says is books, it does not show what audiobooks, so i am not able to check or uncheck them when I sync my ipod.
Also, since I got windows 7 I have also not had the same itunes screen with all my playlists on the side. It was nice to have.

  • Audiobooks on Ipod Classic 160GB

I have some audiobooks in my iTunes, organised into different books, each separated into chapters (20-30 minute mp3 tracks, just changed to media type "audiobook").
They are all fine, and remain grouped together as books in my iTunes, but not on my iPod.  When I open the Audiobooks section on my iPod, the chapters from various books appear, all jumbled and random, impossible to listen to in sequence.
I have no problem playing through them on my iTunes, but cannot figure out how to group them into folders etc. on my iPod.
I'd be very grateful for some advice, thank you.

  • How I can arrange my audiobooks on ipod classic by itunes?

    hello everyone
I got iPod classic 80 GB and I have old mp3 audiobbok "10 chapters", so I converted it to m4b "10 m4b files" then I put it in the right place on the itunes and sync with my ipod without ant problems.
    _So my problem is :_
my audiobook has 10 chapters and they appear on the ipod like 10 Audiobooks !??
But I want to appear like one audiobook and when I open it I want to see 10 chapters
*Plz don't tell me make a playlist or jone chapters in one file.*
I heard there is program called "Audiobook Builder" on Mac OS and it can solve my problem. But I am Windows user and I don't have mac
    {anyone has informations about this program plz write it down}
Finally, sorry about my bad writing

One .m4b file is one book. Two .m4b files are two books . . . That's how iTunes/iPod work. There is no way around it except for the playlist option, which you've rejected.

  • Sorting songs on iPod mini like in iTunes library

Can the library on my iPod mini be sorted by Sort Name like my iTunes library can? If so, how?

No, the sort options info does not carry over to the iPod.
The iPod sorts by album/artist only.

  • NEED HELP!  Possibly easy question about 'sorting' on your iPod

I can't find the answer anywhere... You know when you sort on 'artist' (or probably anything) on your iPod, if the artist's name is "The Beatles", the artist will be found under the letter "B", not "T". Or if the artist's name is "A Perfect Circle", the artist will be found under "P" and not "A". Etc...
Is there a way to change this? I actually don't mind it, but was curious because:
Is there a way to add words that it would do this for? i.e. add the word "Tha" in iTunes for your iPod so artist "Tha Dogg Pound" is found under "D" and not under "T".
Sorry if this answer is somewhere but I cannot find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!!!

In iTunes for Windows the auto-sort feature is controlled by the file C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.Resources\<Region Code>.lproj\SortPrefixes.plist. For English the words ignored for sorting are "A ", "An " & "The ". You could edit this list or just use the Sort Artist, Sort Album Artist etc. fields as necessary when you'd like something sorted into a different position. I can't recall ever testing to see if the iPod picks up on changes made to this file so it may be that another properties file would need editing on the classic in order to achieve the same end.

  • TV shows from iTunes are not sorted correctly on iPod

I bought episodes of a TV show from the iTunes store and all of a sudden nothing is sorted correctly anymore. They're completely fine on iTunes but on my iPod Classic (it's the newest one, 160 GB) it just doesn't seem to want to work. I've tried restoring it a few times but so far, no change. And I've checked all the tags and everything so it shouldn't be wrong but I'm thinking the issue is with my iPod, not iTunes.

I had the same issue with this. what I did to fix it was select the shows in the TV playlist, then apple - i to get info, click on the video tab, select "TV Show" from the "video kind:" pull down menu.
Resync the touch. You should see the files in the video playlist on the Touch. I'm not sure why they let you sync tv shows if they don't appear on the Touch. In any case, the above work around should work for you.
    Good luck.

  • Smart playlist not sorted correctly on ipod

I have a smart playlist in my iTunes 10.0, which contains all podcasts (with play count 0), sorted by release date.
Unfortunately, this playlist is NOT sorted correctly on my ipod (nano, 5th generation). After syncing with itunes, the ipod playlist has some apparently random order (not by release date, not even by name, artist or anything, it really seems random).
It's strange that, if I click on my ipod under "DEVICES" in itunes and click the playlist there, the correct order is shown (by release date). But again, on the ipod it is actually not sorted.
    Message was edited by: powerbookuser99

I have a smart playlist for my podcast's and I normally sort them by the date added (oldest to newest) or by release date. No mater what I do now they only show up on my iPhone in date added order newest to oldest and I am unable to re-order them. I have a number of other playlists that work fine it is just this one smart playlist that is acting up. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
