Sorting by labels

So what is the easiest way to sort my music collection by record labels with iTunes to my iPod? Should I just create playlist to every label or is there any shortcuts to do this?
Thanks already!
PC Windows XP

You could add the record label to "Grouping" in the info tab for your various tracks. Then either add the Grouping column to your library view or create smart playlists to capture each label from the grouping info: Add Song Information, Lyrics, and Artwork to My Tunes To add Grouping to your library view right click at the top of any column in your iTunes library and choose it from the list.

  • Sort by Label in Lion

Not a big deal, but I noticed that in Leopard, when I had files in List view sorted by Label color, and then I changed the label color of one of the files, the file would then drop out of sight and i would remain in the same place in the window. In Lion, when I change the label color of one of the files, the window immediately scrolls down to keep the file in view, causing me to lose my place in the window. Is there a way to change this behavior?

I'm really looking for confirmation more than a fix at this point. Can anyone replicate this issue?
I'm currently using an Automator solution to open the folders automatically, so that the Finder will sort the labels correctly when users access them later. However this is not a quick task, and I'm hoping this problem gets addressed.

  • Sort By Label Doesn't Work

The company I'm working for uses Finder Labels to organize a lot of their data. So they tend to keep their windows in list view, sorted by label. This worked out fine until the upgrade to Tiger. Now when they open folders on the server they have to click a few folders before the finder will sort them by label correctly. The fix only applies to that level though. If they twirl down one of the sub-folders, that folder is not sorted properly. Of course once they click on a few folders in that sub-folder, the Finder will eventually sort them correctly.
I have reproduced this problem on machines running 10.4.3 and 10.4.5 accessing files on both Windows 2000 server and OS 10.4.3 Server. This problem only occurs when accessing folders over the network. It does not happen with local files. This problem is not reproducible on 10.3.9.
Has anyone else seen this issue? Is this a bug, and if so, has it been reported?

  • Lightroom crashes when using sort by label

    Setup: LR Version 3.4, 64-bit, windows 7
I recently started using the sort by label color option. Now when I change filters or change to a different folder, I get the error "Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 64-bit has stopped working", with options to Debug or Close program. It seems this only happens when I use sort by label color.
Any ideas why/how to fix it?
    Thanks,
    Nick

    Hey Brett,
Thank you for your quick respond
Well, there was a message after it crashed asking me if I want to report or send an email, which I did. Then it says that Adobe is an able to know the problem. Maybe this is the message you are talking about.
I have imported the same file from another source, and to a new catalog. same thing. In fact, I managed to apply both tools before it crashes, now every time I go to the same photo and just zoom in and out, it crashes.
I then uninstalled 4.3 and downgraded to 4.2. It works fine with this version (even the same old file that caused everything) it is just really slow version. 4.1 (straight from the CD) was REALLY fast and with no issues.. or maybe I didn't get to push it to its limits. 4.3 is slower but crashes. 4.2 is very slow but never crashes.
I'm saying that after uninstalling and reinstalling all these versions couple of times each.
I was considering upgrading my OS to 10.8.3 (even though I really don't want to) just to see if I can run 4.3 properly. But then I read that 4.3 is widely problematic and that is why 4.4 is coming out so soon.
What do you suggest? Should I stick with 4.2 for the time being? Just received a reply from another staff member saying that I should just wait for 4.4 Is there any time frame to the release?
Sorry for making it this long..
    Much obliged

  • Can't sort custom labels in Contacts

It used to be that when you added a Custom Lable in Contacts in iOS, it would show a sorted list of the custom labels you already made for your contacts phone numbers etc. so you could see if you've already made a custom label to avoid duplication.  Now in iOS7, you can add a custom label but you have to scroll down the long list of already entered custom labels that seem to appear in no particular order.  It takes a long time if you already have quite a number of custom labels.  It used to be easy when they were sorted to scroll down to the labels in alphabetical order.  What happened to this feature?

    Custom Labels are not Alphabetical.
Same problem with my os7 update, and This is a huge hassle, I re-use labels constantly as I travel for work and
I have hundreds of labels in my contacts.
    This is a mess.
The only Good thing I can say is that the 'new' custom label field is finally at the Top of the list of labels.
It used to be at the bottom, meaning I had to scroll thru many many labels to add a new custom label.
So they fixed the tiny little problem and gave us a Massive new problem.

  • Mac Mail sorting by "Labels"

I was just in Mac mail looking at the column headings to sort my mail by file size.  I see what looks to be a new column heading called labels.  It is greyed iut.  does anyone know how to use the Lables in Mac mail?

  • Why is mavericks now unable to sort by label , vital to me

the new software has totaly lost the ability to work with large blocks of file and colour codeing, unable to sort or find by label

No column header clicking, but it works.

  • How to change sorting behavior in column view in Lion Finder?

I love the ability to sort in column view in OS X 10.7. However, when I switch to column view and let sort by label, the Finder displays a strange behavior: The files are grouped by label, but in the order of lee to more. It does not seem possible to display according to the label order set in the Finder prefs.
This is somewhat irritating. Is there a way to change this can make it consistent to the label order?
The label order in the Finder was set to "Prio A", then "Prio B" and so forth.

If I set it to "Arrange by", I get them sorted by file name, irrespective of the color.
If I change that in the View Options, I get them sorted according to label, but not in the label order of the Finder prefs.

  • Looking for "label" in view options

This seems like such a no-brainer that I must be missing something, but is there no way to have "label" as one of the view options? For a lot of music, particularly older stuff, or 50's and 60's soul stuff, even modern indie, really everything, being able to sort by label (record label) should be an everyday option.
Maybe I want to listen to just Dial records today, or King, or Fame, or Norton or Ace...
Can this feature be added, post-haste? Or have I missed it?

Personally, I never think about the record label and can't understand why it would matter. But that's just me.
You can have more than one thing in the comments field and still use Smart Playlists to select items that have the name of the record label in the comments field.
You might want to submit your suggestions to Apple:

  • Label Templates for Mail Merge - Any ideas?

Okay you guys, I want to RAPIDLY set up various label templates (as you can in WORD)  by selecting the label type ( manufacturer code) and off you go with your merging.  Problem is, I cannot find anything like that - or am I overlooking something?
I have found how you set  up a Mail Merge field etc. But I cannot find any indicators ( even on the Help) as to where you can get label or equivalent templates... ALL help gratefully received...  even if it is staring me in the face! - I have broad shoulders!
    Here's hoping....

Jerrold, thank you, however, it is more than just addresses, I have been used to creating all sorts of labels using logos, words etc. and "it just happened" - it sure aint at the moment!   I fear I may have to resort to Avery's on-line app and do it "in the clouds" not something I wish to do really...  I wonder what the reason is for not allowing such a core need in Pages at the moment?
    Oh well !

  • Color Label Order

Is it possible, under OS 10.3, to change the order of the Finder color labels? Under OS 9, Orange used to be at the top of a list when it was sorted by color label. Under OS 10.3, Neutral (no color) is at the top. I'd like to make Orange go to the top of a Finder list sorted by Label. Can this be done?

It may be possible, but the question is how? There are no obvious files to be found that might be modified to do this. Although your arrangment is different than mine. From the top, mine are Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, and Gray.
There's a third-party "haxie" you can try for 15 days and buy for $10 from Unsanity; this may suit your needs.

  • Sorting the list

I have a list selector and when I sort one of the columns it does so incorrectly. It sorts 18.91, 19.71, 2.03, 21.15.
    How can I correct this?

    I have a question regarding Xcelsius 2008.
In my report I am using a List View selector because I want to be able to sort my data. In my List View I have Headers that are text and Labels that are numeric. I want to be able to sort my Labels from high to low and from low to high (as I did in Xcelsius 4.5). When I click on the Header to sort, it seems to be sorting by the first digit in the number, and not treating the number as a number.
Ex: if my numeric values are:
    8
    10
    700
    5,000
when I click the Header to sort it puts it in this order:
    10
    5,000
    700
    8
I would like to see it in this order
    8
    10
    700
    5,000
Is there a format or a setting that needs changed?

  • Every time I click a folder arrow to open...finder reframes my window view. And other finder problems

When using the finder windows sorted either by name or date modifed, when I click a folder arrow, the window reframes to the center (or some other spot) that means I need to scroll back to the folder. When I change an item in a folder when sorted by date modfied, it of course moves to the top, but my window view stays centered where I am, and I have to scroll to the top to find the folder I'm working on. Both situations have the feel of "what I'm working on just dissappeared". I have become used to it, but it is one of the things in Lion that I hate. Is there a workaround...a way to keep the finder window view where it is when I click the open folder arrow, or to reframe to the top if I make a folder change and have the sort set by date modifed?
Mail behaves in the same manner where the view of read and unread wildly scrolls itself when clicking an unread mail. I have tamed this by creating a smart mailbox of unread e-mail, but it seems to be some system wide preference for an unknown sort view that I would like to fix.
Also, when I choose the sort by label option in the finder window, all the red pops to the top, but then all the other labels are scattered and not sorted as a for instance...
Perhaps this is fixed in Mountain Lion?
    Thanks for any help.
I am preparing to upgrade to Mountain Lion this weekend, but if I have some system problem, I would like to resolve it before I go forward.

  • Basic, basic question - how to order prints from more than one album at onc

I am having two problems with iphoto - I would be most grateful for any help. First, when I go to upload my photos to a web-based printing company (like shutterfly or snapfish), and I click on the vendor's "browse" photos to find the album to upload, the way the photos come up does not correspond to my album titles in iphoto, so I can't find them. I have my photos sorted in labeled albums, and would like to upload them as such, but when I click on iphoto library, it brings up all kinds of other files that don't correspond to my current file labels. Can anyone help?
Equally irritating, when I use apple's "order print" features, it only lets me order from one album at a time. I'd like to order from multiple albums all at once, without paying shipping for each one. Any ideas? Again, most grateful for any advice.

Hi, Sestew, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Problem 1: Export the photos you want printed from iPhoto to a folder on the desktop. Use the printer's browser to navigate to that folder and upload them to the printing company from it. After uploading them, trash the folder that contains the exported copies. The pictures are still safe in your iPhoto library.
Problem 2: Create a new album and place all the pictures you want printed in it. (A photo can appear in any number of albums, so doing this won't remove any of the pictures from the other albums they're already in.) Then order that album printed. Delete the album after ordering, if you wish — the pictures will remain in whatever other albums you've placed them in.

  • Filename and sequencing of print orders?

I ordered a set of prints through Aperture.  Before printing, I changed the names (for version & masters) to a date/time format.  They came in and look great, but on the back they just have some nonsensical codes.
Also, the prints are TOTALLY out of order.  Just random, and I ordered 110 of them.  Even though the album I created before ordering they are sorted by filename (and hence date).
So now I have to reorder them and
Of course, there's no way to contat apple about this.  1800myapple gets you to an automated system that will give you a tracking #, but if you request an operator, it just says "sorry, we can't help you" and hangs up.
I want to use this service again.  It was comparably priced, especially with the flat shipping fee.  The colors are way better than what I usually do which is just print them for pickup at walgreens.  But if I have to sort and label each one myself, I may have to look for alternate services.
    Thanks.

Even though the album I created before ordering they are sorted by filename (and hence date)
Yes, It is a pity that you cannot specify the sorting order when printing:
As a workaround: Duplicate your original image files (you can delete the duplicate masters afterwards)
and rename the original files with a number prefix by batch changing the version name and applying the change to the original files
or print a caption onto the image or the border of the image using the BorderFX plug-in http://www.iborderfx.com/BorderFX
To duplicate the original files/masters create a new, empty project named "DuplicatesToBePrinted" or similar; then drag the images from the album you want to print to this project with the options-key held down. This will duplicate the original masters image files. Any edits you do to these images will leafe the other images untouched.
