Sorting by rating

I have a project with about 4500 images in it, and I have gone through and rated many as the best to use for my project. I use both keywords and stars, but not every image has a keyword.
When I go to the top and tell the program to sort images by ratings (such as 3 stars or better) only some of my rated images appear in the results. I think the results might be based on whether the image has keywords assigned. IF there are keywords on the image, it appears in the results.
Any ideas why this is?
Thanks
Mark

I'll expand a little on Steve's response:
If you want to see all of your images that are a certain number of stars or better, and find rated images inside of stacks, consider making a Smart Album.
To do this, click on the blue Library icon, then choose menu option File>New Smart>Album. In the Smart Settings HUD, check the Ratings checkbox and set the Ratings criteria you wish to use (e.g., Rating is greater than or equal to three stars). Make sure to check the "Ignore stack groupings" checkbox at the bottom of the HUD if you wish to find rated images inside of stacks. If you do not use this checkbox setting, the Smart Album will only show the stack pick. Now you should see all your rated images for the rating setting in the browser whenever you select the Smart Album. If you wish, you can now sort by Rating by selecting it in the drop down at the top left of the browser.

  • I can select a rating and a color label for my images, but I can not sort by rating and color label.

I can select a rating and a color label for my images, but I can not sort by rating and color label. when I click on the filter drop down, color label is not one of the options.  how do I get both ratings and color lables as an option to sort with.

You can Filter (not sort) on both color label and rating if you want, open the Filter Bar with the backslash key, then click on Attribute, and then select the stars and color label of interest. If you really meant "sort" and not filter, then you can't do this in Lightroom.

  • ILife 08 sorting by rating

Is it not possible to locate by only one category ie 3 stars or 4 stars? It appears if you set 3 stars it also shows 4 and 5 stars?

Are you talking about sorting or creating a playlist? To make a smart playlist with only three-star songs, set the condition to "Rating is *".
I'm not sure how you would use sorting to select only songs of a certain rating.

  • Sort by rating

I think it would be nice to be able to sort posts by their
rating.  This would let you pull up a list of all the threads that
were rated well for one reason or another... I like to read various
posts that receive good ratings for the tidbits of knowledge they
contain, but then without being able to sort that means there may be a
few per page of 50 posts.... lots of navigation work to browse through
    them.

Great suggestion.  I will add this to the list of feature requests, but in the meantime have you experimented with the Advanced Search option yet?
You do have to have at least one keyword in your search, but you can filter your responses by the ratings they have received AND you can sort by ratings once you have the results.  To do that, you just need to click on the Ratings column.  When the little arrow is pointing down, then they are sorted descending and the higher ratings will be at the top of the list.

  • Trying to sort by rating for whole project

I am a photographer working on several different series, and I am just setting up Aperture.
I have one project that has up to 30 different albums contained within it. I plan to keep adding to this project (is that not a good idea?) as I do more shoots with related subject matter.
I just went through a number of albums and rated photographs. Now I am trying to see all of the 3 star or better photos for the entire project. The results are limited to my most recent import and not the entire project. I had imported the majority of albums a week ago and tonight just imported another 3 albums. So, when I highlight the project name in the Project pane and then specify that I want to filter out only 3 star or better, it only gives me the results of those last 3 albums.
    Any suggestions?

  • Is it possible to sort my library by both "Rating" AND "Last Played?"

I have been transferring my music digitally since 5 years before iTunes ever existed. I have just finally developed a rating system that I will be able to benefit from.  So, I want go though almost two decades worth of my music, and rate all these songs.
I'd like to rate my songs which I've never listened to, while listening to them.  Once rated, I don't want to hear the song again until I've rated all songs.
The problem arises because I can't efficiently just shuffle my music and rate, because iTunes will more commonly play my already-rated songs.  Even if shuffle was actually random (like it used to be) I'd still have music that would remain unrated before I started getting repeats of the rated ones.
This can not be accomplished with a smart playlist either, because finding only 'unrated' and 'never played' songs will remove the song as soon as I rate it, and stop playing all music in my library.  I considered [unshuffled] column-sorting by rating in a smart playlist that only finds songs with a play count of 0; this allows me to start playing the first 0 song in the full list of 0's, but the moment I rate it, it jumps up with the rated songs I've already rated, and continues to play the next track from it's new position.
Ideally, I'd like to [column] sort by Last Played FIRST, and see all the unplayed ones at the top of the list, THEN sort by rating, and view unrated ones reshuffled to the top of that list. But iTunes won't seem to sort in this manner. In other words, It won't re-sort an already-sorted column.
If the rules of my sorting system would help you understand what I'm trying to do, they are included below.
STAGE ONE (what I'm trying to find an efficient process for)
    ★ - DELETE
    ★★ - SONG NOT PREFERABLE
    ★★★ - LISTENED/KEEPING
    ★★★★ - KNOWN, LIKED SONG
    ★★★★★ - NEW, LIKED SONG
    STAGE TWO
    Delete all ★ songs.
Decrease rating of all ★★★★, ★★★ and ★★ remaining songs by ★
[example:  select all ★★★ star songs and mass-edit track info and change to ★★ star songs]
    New Status:
    ★ - SONG NOT PREFERABLE
    ★★ - LISTENED/KEEPING
    ★★★ - KNOWN, LIKED SONG
★★★★★ - [ BECOMES: ] RE-EVALUTE SONG (since I've only heard it once, after all)
Once I've reevaluated all the songs that are new to me, the ★★★★ category will be reserved for my most favorite songs at the moment.
And all ★★★★★ star ratings will continue to be songs I still need to give some time to before I decide whether I like hearing them or not.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
I know this may seem like overkill, but if I could implement this rating system, I could listen to my music with way less skipping.  I'm not going to start deleting songs from complete albums, but I don't need to listen to it if I am not into it.  Sometimes a song will be perfect as part of an album, but it's not a jam you're interested in hearing anymore otherwise.  Doug's Rate Me! Script doesn't work under my listening habits.

I would like to extend also the guest network. Is this possible with a 2nd generation dual band AP express?
Yes it is, if you have updated your Mac to use AirPort Utility 6.2 and both the AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express have been updated to use version 7.6.3 firmware.

  • Why does Bridge always sort images by rating instead of by date modified?

Why does Bridge always sort images by rating instead of by date modified?
This drives me bonkers.  Everytime I look for an image I've been working on, I go to Bridge and I'm always presented with the images sorted by rating instead of by date.
Then I click on the microscopic sized, extremely tiny arrow that allows one to choose 'sort by date modified' and I resort them to find the file I need.  So that's always 3 extra clicks to find the image.
WHY can't Bridge sort images by date modified and STAY that way every time I come back?
    Thanks for any help.
I know I could just keep the recent files rated the highest, but still, I'm wondering if there's a way to make it work the way I'd like it to work?
    jn
p.s.  Note to Adobe: Please make the selection button for sorting images arrow larger than a fraction of the size of the period at the end of this sentence.  Thanks.

WHY can't Bridge sort images by date modified and STAY that way every time I come back?
By default it does stay at the latest selected sort order so this could mean it is due to your install.
First of all try to reset the preferences for Bridge, hold down option key while restarting Bridge and choose reset preferences. This sets it all to default. First try if the problem is solved then set prefs again to your own custom wishes.
Also check and repair permissions for the OSX itself (Apple has disk utility in the utility folder for this job, and there are other 3th party applications)
And be sure to have the latest update for Bridge. (Bridge CS5 should be 4.0.5.11)
In addition to the method Tai Lao pointed you already to there is a third option, use right click mouse button in content window and the pop up menu has also the sort option at the bottom of the row

  • Sort Free Apps by Rating?

How can I sort a search result by rating, filtering for free apps?
I searched "Real Estate" and there are pages of apps, but I can't seem to filter out the non-free apps and then sort by rating. This should be really easy, I'm sure, but I can't seem to see how to do it. I just get pages of stuff, and can't figure out how to filter or sort them.

Thank you, but how do I sort the results? I can't seem to start list view or anything from there to sort them.

  • Sorting library podcasts by song rating

I can sort my Library/Music easily by rating but I can not sort Library/Podcasts by rating. Songs that I do not like I mark with a rating of one star and I desire to sort by rating and delete all with a rating of one star.  Can this be done? Is there an alternative way to do what I desire?  I'm using latest version of iTunes.

You could create a smart playlist that contains all your podcasts and then sort that by rating.
    Hope this helps.

  • Dynamic Sorting on Multiple filed in Crystal report 2008

    Hi
I am using Crystal report 2008 sp3 full build with hotfix 3.3 along with ASP.NET 2.0
I have implimented the multi filed sorting using the record sort export and setting the sort order in the report designer.
Now my requirement is such that i would like to have dynamic sorting on multiple fileds while report is displayed in the UI.
Means suppose i have a report with Customer region, name, city, rating, status etc.
Now by using the sort control  i would like to have the functionality in such a way that if user
    a)  first sorts on the region then the records should be first sorted by region
    b)  then sorts on the city then the records should be sorted first by region then by city
    c) now sorts on the  rating then the records should be sorted first by region ,second by city and then by rating
    Now other user may do
    a) first sorts on the rating then the records should be first sorted by rating
    b)  then sorts on the status then the records should be sorted first by rating then by status
    c) now user sorts on the  region then the records should be sorted first by rating, second by status and then by region
and so on the sorting criteria changes from user to user through the UI.
Is there any way to achieve the dynamic kind of sorting with Crytsal report 2008 where we can set the order of the fileds at sorting in UI dynamically .The sorting order of the fields are not known at the time of design of the report and its completely depends on the user's need.
Please let me know if you require any information on the same.
    Regards,
    smitha

    Hello,
       Good Day!
       Thanks for your answer.
Could you please explain me in detail how to achieve this functionality?
Do i need to create a static parameter?
I  get my data set through the command option in crystal report. So i think i need to go by formula in the report.
i am just putting down the steps to follow. Please correct me if i am wrong.
step1 :Create s static parameter with the name SORT.
step2: create the formula as you have mentioned like
        (IF {?Sort}='Vendor Number' THEN {Pr_Voucher_Status;1.Vendor_Key}& " "& {Pr_Voucher_Status;1.ap_remt_key}
        & " " & {@date}
       else
        IF {?Sort}='Invoice Number' THEN {Pr_Voucher_Status;1.ap_vchr_invno}& " " & {Pr_Voucher_Status;1.Vendor_Key}&
        " " &{@date}
       else
       IF {?Sort}='Invoice Amount' THEN {Pr_Voucher_Status;1.ap_vchr_amtc}& " " & {Pr_Voucher_Status;1.Vendor_Key}&
         " " &{@date})
I could not  understand what this formula is really doing .
Could you please tell me what the following names indicates? :
                  Pr_Voucher_Status :- Table/Command name ??
                  Vendor Number,Invoice Number etc.. :-  ??
                 Vendor_Key,ap_vchr_invno,ap_vchr_amtc .. :-  Filed names ??
                 use of 1.{} :- ??
step3: place the below formula in the page header  to display the sort order
(if {?SORT}='Vendor Number' then "Vendor Number, Remit To, Invoice Date"
else if {?SORT}='Invoice Number' then "Invoice Number, Vendor Number, Invoice Date"
else if {?SORT}='Invoice Amount' then "Invoice Amount, Vendor Number, Invoice Date") .
Note:-My report does not have grouping.Do i need to have grouping?
in this case how the sort control will work  ?
As i have mentioned in the first post the order of sorting is completely depends on the user's perspective .
The report is used by the whole organization ..
i mean the people with different roles like Manger,Team leads, modul leads, developers ,testers etc..
the usage of report varies according to the roles so the sort order also.

  • How to rename with inverse rating in the filename?

This is a question about sorting and renaming.
I have a bunch of sports images in Lightroom that are all tagged with an appropriate rating or 1-5 stars.  Because they are sports images, some are sequences of images taken at 8fps. I want the images to end up on my photo website (Smugmug) sorted first by rating, but for images of the same rating, I want them in chronological order (by date/time taken).
My challenge here is that I'm uploading them to a website that doesn't know how to sort by rating.  In the past, I've renamed the images to include the rating as the first part of the filename, followed by the date/time and then I've sorted the gallery by descending filename.  This successfully gets the images in rating order, but it does not get images with the same rating in the right order (in fact it gets them in reverse order).
    Filenames would look like this:
    Force97-5-20100926182129_7220.JPG.
    "Force97" is the team name
The "5" is the star rating
The "20100926182129" is the date/time code
The "7220" is the original file number (useful at max fps when date/time codes are identical)
What I need to make these filenames sort properly is to be able to include the inverse rating rather than the actual rating so a five star image would get a filename with a 1, a four star image a 2, and so on.  Then, I could sort by lowest filename first and everything would sort properly.  Highest rated images would be first and within a given rating, the images would be in chronological order.
So, an image rated five starts would come out like this:
    Force97-1-20100926182129_7220.JPG
With the rating of 5 converted to a 1, rating of 4 convert to a 2, rating of 3 as 3 and so on...
Does anyone have any idea how to do this in Lightroom?  My only idea so far is to output them as shown here in Lightroom and then write a python script to parse out the rating from the filename, reverse all the rating numbers and rename everything again.  I'd love to be able to do this within LR.  Have I made myself clear what I'm trying to accomplish?  Any ideas on how to solve this in LR?

If you can write a Python script, then the best way I think would be for
you to write a Lightroom export plugin instead, then rename as you see
    fit...
Learning yet another language (Lua) and SDK is a possibility, but certainly not a quick way.

  • Sort songs into date transfered on vision

is there anyway to sort songs, into when they were transfered onto the player, if that makes sence.oye and is there anyway to get windows task manager up without using ctrl+alt+del?thnx alot

Hey, I have the exact same problem... It's very frustrating, because no matter what intelligent sorting you use, iOS 7 will end up using the numerotation sort.
I found a way to still have it sorted, it's easy but could be much easier if iOS 7 behaved as iOS 6: all you need to do is sort your playlist in iTunes, as you would do normally, but this time, you then have to right click on the playlist. There should be an option like "copy to play order". What it does is re-index the numbers so that they match your playlist sorting. This way, even your iPhone will have this order. The bummer is it won't do it automatically. So say you wanted to sort by rating, every time you add/change rating, you will have to click on that option again. That s***ks a lot. I have iTunes Match with a lot of music, and it's a pain not to have it sorted.
Anyway, even if it can help, I seriously hope there is a better way to do it.

  • Sort by number of images in a stack

I use stacks a great deal, we have the ability to sort by rating, by picks, by date, etc etc, a very useful way would be to sort by number in stack.
I stack images and then batch process so say a selection of 27 images arranged in stacks of 3, followed by a selection of 12 images arranged in stacks of 4.
This would make my work flow so much faster, that or a way to select all the images in a stack, like cmd click top image to select all in the stack, that would work, providing I was then able to cmd click another stack and select all those images as well.

is there a limit in the number of images in a folder? the number of images in a slide show?
None that I know off. But why are you asking? Did you notice any performance problems or problems to render the slideshow? Then it would help to know more about your hardware RAM, disk, CPU ..
If you already encountered problems, you may wish to have a look at this thread - although it relates to Aperture 3, not 2:
Is there a limit on the number of photos you can use in an Aperture slideshow?
And as I said in that thread:
I'd expect the limiting factor to the length of a slide show to be the patience and "Good Will" of your intended audience

  • Filter songs by rating (on the fly, without smart playlists)

Is there any way (3rd party app maybe) that would allow you to live filter the displayed/played songs by rating? ie. if I have an artist selected, and all 200 songs are shown by that artist -- I would like to select on the fly to only display/play songs that are rated 2 or higher.
Aperture has a similar function that does not require making smart lists -- "Display only 2 or higher" of the current album, etc. -- AND you can sort with a sub-filter in addition (in iTunes, I would show/play only 2 and higher, and maybe sub-sort by album, or shuffle it.)
The only current way to do this is to create a unique smart playlist for every artist, genre, etc. that you would want to filter by rating in that way. Alternately, you can sort by rating, so the best are at the top, but with large selection of those ratings I often want to be able to shuffle the order within that selected rating range.
This software addition would be very useful!
    Thanks for any tips...

Merci beaucoup for the response. However, what you described in both cases are the workarounds that I described & that I've been using.
With sort by rating solution, the music can then only be sorted by rating -- and there will be songs of lower ratings played eventually.
Let me try to describe what I'm looking for more precisely:
Like in Aperture, there would be a small gui selection toward the top of iTunes, and you select what ratings should be shown/played -- for example, 2 & higher. Then, there will be no songs shown/played that are below 2 stars. You can then have it play on shuffle, or sorted by other data such as artist, album, etc. -- and you will never hear a song below 2 stars.
The smart playlist is the other workaround I've used, but it's also not the solution. It requires making a separate smart playlist for every possible artist/genre, etc. that you would want only (for example) 2 stars & above to play. For example, if on a whim I wanted to listen to all of my U2 music on random/shuffle -- I'd like to be able to just select Artist-->U2, and with the 2+stars GUI selection, I know I will never hear anything below 2 stars -- *without* having to take the time to make a smart playtlist for this random & rare mood. If I suddenly want a even higher selection of U2, I just click the 3stars GUI selection, and the shown & playable songs instantly update. No need to always have to create & edit smart playlists for such random selections...
This interface works extremely well in Aperture - I wish they'd migrate it over to iTunes!
I hope I'm clearer now... Thanks again
