Sorting characteristics

Dear Experts,
the order of output fields in my query is
A, B, C, D, E, F KF1 KF2.
I want to sort the query first by 'F' in descending, then by 'D' in descending and then by 'B' in ascending without changing the order of the fields (A, B, C, D, E, F, KF1, KF2). Is there any option in query designer to do this?

Hi,
As per me this is not possible as in BW report out put the First column sorting order take preference.
the second and so on.
In addition you can try doing in properties of chars where you can mention the sorting order.in reference to other available chars.
Go right click on chars, goto properties and in last you will find "Sort Order",there you can select the reference Char for shorting, Key or text to be sorted or in ascending or descending order.

Sort by selection

Hi experts,
in BEx 3.5 it was possible to sort characteristics ascending or descending dependant to their key or description.
Since BEx 7 it is also possible to sort "by selection".
Unfortunately I'm obviously a bit too dumb to understand that feature - and I didn't find any further documentation about it.
Could you please bring some enlightment to me about that feature?

what I'm talking about is:
Start BEx Analyzer (Excel) open a report and open the properties for a characteristic.
Check the entries of the drop-down-field for "sort by". There you'll find the item "selection".
For a characteristic with a presentation-hierarchy enabled this sorting-option seems to make
sense: It allow to sort the hierarchy-entries freely.
But for a normal characteristic (~without an enabled hiearchy) there seems not to be a lot of sense
in this feature. It seems as if one could place exactly one char-value to a free position within the value-list,
but as soon as one tries to move another list-entry, the list is obviously resorted asc/desc first.
And that's some kind curious to me - and the reason why I think that I didn't understand that feature yet.

Selection Cretria for Selection screen

Hi Experts,
In Report selection Screen,if user click on variable selection option(F4 query).Then data listed in Ascending order and i need to change it to Descending order. Please any one can help me to fix this issue..
For Example
My Selection screen has an input for Date variable.If user clicks on selection option its listing from earliest date to todays date,but i need it in reverse todays date to earliest date(Current list is 01.01.2000 to 01.01.2009 and Required List is 01.01.2009 to 01.01.2000)

Hi,
If I got your problem, not sure but the following setting should work in the Query.
Click on the Characteristic, on which you are providing Input Prompt Variable.
You can get to see Properties Window, Refer to "Display" Tab - Sorting
1.Select the Characteristics from the dorp down list for "Sort Characteristics"
2.Select "Key" from Sort by list.
3.Give "Sort Direction" as Descending.

BEX iView - Remove unwanted tabs in the query output

BW 3.5
We have created a couple of BEX iViews that reported from the BW system. But we do not want some of the options provided by the BEX iView like the sorts, characteristics, etc and wanted to hide the query tabs that we are not using like informaiton broadcasting etc.
Has any one been succesful in removing this unwanted options from the BEX query output? I couldn't find anything in the iView properties that helped me with the issue.
Appreciate any suggestion on this item.

Hi Raj,
I suggest you to have a webtemplate against the query and create SAP BW Report iVew in the portal.
Iin WAD tool you suppress standard options/ have new options by adding javascript & Html code.

"Drilldown characteristic" not permitted for display hierarchy

Hi Experts,
I want to display the hierarchy in my BEx Analyzer for which i tried to activate the hierarchy for the same and got the below error.
"Default values "Drilldown characteristic" not permitted for display hierarchy"
Also I have used a standard variable for this infoobject and it is used for user input in the selection screen of the report.
Eventhough we proceed further with this message, in the Report display, it is not showing the hierarchy in the display.
Please respond ASAP.

Hi,
I don't know why you are getting this error. But we can create hierarchy either by using herarchy name or else by creating hierarchy variable......In characteristics for which you are creating hierarchy, in display tab of properties give DISPLAY AS KEY, SORT CHARACTERISTICS -- AS IN THE QUERY and RESULT ROWS --- ALWAYS SUPPRESS....
In HIERARCHY TAB --- Give Hierarchy name select use hierarchy setting check boxand select always show radio buttons......
Do in this way and it may work......

Automatic Sorting of Characteristics Values

Hi Gurus,
           I am getting a problem when dealing with Variant configuration. I am using a characteristics with format "CHAR" with multiple values/lines of free text. When I am entering the free text the lines/values gets sorted automatically. My requirement is that the text should be displayed in the sequence in which I am entering the different text/values. Please help.
eg. If my first line is xyz
               Second line is abc
               third line is jkl
then system automatilly sorts as
               first line is abc
               Second line is jkl
               third line is xyz

Thanks for your reply. I had already checked what you suggested. If we press sort buttom (may be by mistake) then sorting takes place. But here I am for sure not pressing any sorting button. The data entered is in simple text . In business it is called the free text that the customer wants to be put on his product for eg. the address. This is expected to be in the form (or sequence) in which it is entered by the customer and no sorting should take place.

Sorting by multiple characteristics

Can I sort my library by more than one column? What I mean is, by rating, and then for those songs that don't have a rating, by genre? Or by Album, and then within the album, by name?

That is a capability of Excel, but not of iTunes!
You can make the suggestion at the Apple feedback page.

Sorting of Characteristics Values

Hi Experts,
I have one issue.When i am giving the values to the characteristic (Data format is CHAR)in the equipment (after assigned the class to the equipment)it is sorting the values example-1,10,3,5 even if I give 1,3,5,10.The requirement is it should be like 1,3,5,10 (as we input).Because of the CHAR format the system is sorting the values like this.If it is NUM format it is showing 1,3,5,10.
Is there any way to stop the sorting of the values even if the data format is in CHAR?

No. For values there is no way to order them the way you want. SAP sorts them.

my characteristic structure build in Bex Query Designer is alphabetically sorted in WebI instead of using the predefined sorting of characteristic selections. How can I prevent Webi behaving like this?

Hi,
Most of the display settings done in BEx are not transported to BO. Here in this case BO uses its own sorting and not
the BEx sorting. Morover, you can-not stop or prevent this.
To solve your problem, you can sort the structure values at the BO level.
To sort it in a particular order you can use the Custom Sort feature available in BO.

Sort option in BEX Report

In the Bex Reoprt. I need to sort a Keyfield . If right click on keyfield
following options are coming (but, sort option is not there in this) again if i double click on keyfield sort option is coming but it is not working... what is the reason can anyone explain me.

You can make a descending sorting for your key figure using the condition TopPercent (Top%) and take the value 100. To sort ascending, use the BottomPercent (Bottom%) condition on your key figure.
Then 100 % of the values of your key figure will be shown in a descending sorting by default in your query (without using a view).
I used the feature in the newest BEx Query Designer (7.x) and it works fine, I don't know if it's available in the older version (3.x).

How to change the characteristics of a Batch

Dear All,
We have maintained a batch sort sequence based on Batch Manufacturing date.
But now customer wants the batch to be sorted out based on Batch Number.
How to change the Characteristics from Batch Manufacturing date and Batch Number?
Please do suggest.
For example, we have two characteristics assigned to the Class One is Manufacturing date and another is Batch Number.
How system will sort out a batch based on these two logic.
Kindly explain.

Hi Mullai,
I hope you know what do you mean by "Dependencies" in variant configuration. These are created for automatic update of characteristic values. If you want to delete the characteristic from the class, please do teh following.
1. Find out that there are any dependencies assigned to this characteristic. If so remove the assignment
2. Then you have to check if this characteristic is used in any dependency in the code. If so, find the implications of the same.
In case, you dont know what is dependency, may be they are not used in your project. In this case, you can just remove the characteristic from the class.
It has got one effect.
At present, a configured batch will have this characteristic. If you go to the batch master in change mode, then the old classification will be replaced by the new classification. So the deleted characteristics will not be available to you anymore. I hope that is fine with you. If this is fine, then you dont need to worry about removing the characteristic from the class.

Sorting Rule in Batch Management

I want to issue 23no of pieces from my stock which is in batch managment.It is picking 20qty correctly but its not picking from a batch where qty 3 is available.How can I solve it.
I used LOBM_ZUSTD (qty status) as characteristics for sorting rule.You can see the senario here while issuing.

Are you doing batch determination for a SD delivery, just for an MM movement, or for PP or for WM?

CCM - How to make items in one category to be sorted as expected?

Hi,
I'm searching for a way to sort items in one category in CCM, so that when end users open Catalog via SRM, click into the category, they can see some items on top of the list automatically.
I had thought the items should be sorted by Item Valuation and also tried to upload items in CCM in the order I wanted. But when I created shopping cart as an end user to connect to catalog, the order of the items are totally different. And I even could not tell how the items are sorted, it seems it's not by item valuation, not by item description, not by price, not by anything... Is it that in the catalog search engine the items are not sorted at all?
Can somebody share with me how I can realize that? Many thanks!

Function module to get material characteristics and coresponding value

Hi experts,
I have got one problem...when we go to t code MM03..we select the views for a specific material for Basic Data1,Basic Data2 and Classification..in classification we get the material description and its corresponding values...
These values we receive through specific class and its corresponding object....I want some Function Module which will allow me to receive the description and corresponding value for the material which will automatically retrieve the data for that material using the class and object...
Please help me to sort this problem...

2) Bapi_objcl_getdetails.
for first one it gets the all characteristics assigned to the class even though the values are not assigned

Sort sequence functionality in Batch management

Hi All,
I have a doubt in batch management. I am not sure whether it is a basic doubt. But obviously confusing me a lot and I am not able to find appropriate for that.
In our company, we have two characteristics assigned to the batch class 023. Shelf life expiration date (LOBM_VFDAT) and Manufacturing date (LOBM_HSDAT).
Our Sort sequence is FIFO.
Please find the following example given below.
Material     GR date           SLED               Manufacturing date          Batch
M1              21.05.2014     21.06.2014        21.05.2014                      0001
M1              22.05.2014     22.06.2014        20.05.2014                      0002
As per the above example, when SLED (LOBM_VFDAT) is concerned, batch 0001 will get selected, when Manufacturing date (LOBM_HSDAT) is concerned, batch 0002 will get selected.
But which particular batch will be copied into the outbound delivery. I am confused how system can sort out based on multiple characteristics.
Could someone please exlplain the logic behind this.

Ascending = TO
Descending = From
But, strange to see no material in key combination.
Whereas, you said
when SLED (LOBM_VFDAT) is concerned, batch 0001 will get selected, when Manufacturing date (LOBM_HSDAT) is concerned, batch 0002 will get selected
Frankly, based on above statement I was expecting batch of the key combination. But, that would very tedious task while maintaining individual sort for each batch & material combination. And that is reason I asked you about the key combination.
Based on screenshot provided, system will consider sort in following sequence:
1. LOBM_BSDAT
2. LOBM_VFDAT
provided you have dependency maintained for SORT in CU71.
There in dependency editor may be you have logic to control this behaviour, for example
