Sorting Fluke in iTunes

OK, so I upgraded to iTunes 7 fairly recently and am happy with the upgrade. However, for some reason the program sorts bands/songs/albums that begin with a number (i.e. 30 Seconds to Mars) after "Z" instead of before "A" like it normally does. I'm really hoping this isn't something they've hardwired into the upgrade, because it drives me insane, and I'm wondering if there's something I can do about this. I want 30 Seconds back before Acceptance where it belongs.
Thanks in advance!

iPhone 4 no longer syncs playlists in the same sort order as iTunes after iOS5 upgrade.  Any suggestions?

Thanks for the feedback.  Yes, it is very frustrating.  That was one functionality that worked very well.  Not only is the sort within the playlist bad but the sorting of the playlists themselves is bad.  I used to use an undetscore "-" to sort some of my folders to the top of the play list of the most played playlists and that does not work either.  It ignores the underscore and just sorts on the alpha character.  Hope this gets fixed.

Not a problem when using iPhoto on a Mac, which the transfer of photos is primarily based on - not manually managing photo storage as seems to be common with Windoze.
The same should be available with a supported photo management app on a PC.

  • Why do books sort correctly in iTunes but not in iBooks?

I've filled in all necessary info on the sorting tab and, while all my books sort perfectly in iTunes, on syncing my iPhone and iPad, iBooks does not display the books in the correct order no matter what selections are made.
My intent is to have the books in my library, be grouped together by series and displayed in the correct order one would read the series.  I'm using Sort Name with a series name and series position designation number along with Sort Author as Last, First.  But no luck.  I've tried reading through other threads and have yet to come upon a fix. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • Changing Sort order in iTunes

I need to change the sort order in iTunes, pretty much like clicking on the browser header until the sort is "album by artist". Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks

Took me a long time to get past the inconsistencies that Accessibility Inspector was revealing in iTunes. I finally ran a verify in Accessibility Verifier and discovered some inaccurate reporting in the Inspector. This works. Figured I would share it.
If things are changed to "Album", it will not do more than re-sort that column. It will not change the Album by... setting. I hope I can figure that out.

The list above is sorted ascending, or at least it was set to do that.

    Thanks

I figured it out.  Somehow the sort name was under the acter names for the two that were out of place.

  • Is there a way to automatically sort/filter the itunes music list by files that  cannot be located?

I have quite a lot of files that can't be located, and want to delete them all at once rather than clicking on everyfile to choose delete. Does anybody know of a way to sort the itunes listing so that I can group them all together to delete, or a way to automatically purge them all from the itunes file?

But is there a way (simple or not-so-simple) to find
out EVERY SINGLE FILE that's referenced on a
timeline? (I have lots of stuff imported into the
project that I know isn't used on any timeline, but
I'm afraid of moving or deleting things for fear of
    never finding it again.)
I'd love to get some sort of "printout" (a list or
    something) of every single file.
There is, go to browser and cntrl click on any one of the columns,
and select - show/source. A new column named "source" will pop up and will show where everything "lives". Click on the header at the top and it will justify the column as well. You'll notice this won't show anything for your seq.'s. of course, but will show stills/audio/motion files...
Once you have the new column, you can drag it next to the "name" column and get a grab of it and print it if you like, or whatever.
If you want to do this for just 1 seq., then can create a new bin and double click it to open it. Cntrl-A (select all) in your main seq. and just drag all into the new bin. You will see only what's in that seq. with the "source" column right next to it.
From what I've read, you seem to get the MM thing and it's obviously what you'll need to do to archive as the guys said. But what your missing is a file path system to where everything resides.
Hope this helps and that I've read you properly,
    Peace

  • Sorting Music in iTunes

I am importing all of my music from my hard drive over into iTunes. I notice that it sorts it by artist, then by album, but then my track number. Is there any way to change it to where it sorts like the following: artist, album, song (in alphebetical order) Thank you!

Well, no. That's not what I mean. Like, I like it being sorted by the artist, and then the artists are sorted by the album, but then, after the album, it is by track #. I want that to change to the alphebetical order of that song.

  • Sort order in iTunes (sort by album)

    Hi!
What could be the cause that iTunes in this case: http://homepage.mac.com/bhager/sortierung.png doesn't sort the tracks in correct order when sorting by album? In the other cases apparently it works fine.
    Thanks,
    Bensch

I had this problem when I was viewing the tracks in "Group by Artwork" mode. It would "duplicate" the album and the artwork for every change in Artist.
Here's a solution if you don't want to rename all the tracks with s single artist (if there is more than one):
    - Select all the tracks in the album
    - Click command + I
    - In the field "Album Artist" enter a single space (" ")
That's it. All the tracks will be grouped together.
    Enjoy!

  • How do you change the album sort order in itunes

It seems that Itunes sorts albums by Artist then Album... How can you change sort order to Album name only.

I've been playing with this and discovered it has to do with your personal ratings (ie stars) for albums and songs - seems iTunes now selects the highest rated album to use for the Artist icon. If you have no ratings it seems (but not always) to select the most recent album/song to use fo rthe display.
I've been able to get iTunes to use specific album artowk by rating both the album and all individual tracks as 5 star. You may need to restart iTunes for the changes to take effect.
But I'd be much happier just telling iTunes which image to use - like we used to be able to do. Yet another step backwards for iTunes 11 (one of many).

  • Photo Sorting Issues with iTunes 10.1.1.4 & 3Gs

Hi, folks. Does anyone know what logic iTunes uses when sorting photos from a computer during sync? I have a large set of photos I'm trying to keep chronological (as they are on my computer) but every time I sync them, they get all out of order on the phone.
At first I thought iTunes sorted by the name of the photo. Nope. Then I thought it was the EXIF Date Created tag. Nope. Finally, I figured it had to be the Date Modified tag. Again, no.
I'm really hoping someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong here. I'd really like to understand how the software sorts images during sync.
    Thanks!

  • Possible resolution to sorting issue in iTunes 9 and 3.1

For those experiencing issues sorting Podcasts chronologically:
One particular daily podcast I subscribe to was not sorting correctly (was in random order on the iPod Touch 32gb 2nd Gen).
I did notice the "Release Date" wasn't carrying over to the iPod during the syncing process.
(If you try this, copy any podcasts you can't afford to lose to a separate directory)
    1) I unsubscribed from the podcast in iTunes 9
    2) deleted all the episodes from iTunes
    3) Synced iTunes / iPod - (basically removing remnants of the podcast)
    4) Went back to the iTunes store and subscribed again to said podcast
    5) "Get" the episodes I wanted
    6) Synced iTunes and iTouch
Thankfully, this corrected the issue of random sort order on my iPod - now the "Release Date" is again noted / visible when looking in the iPod and it is ordered correctly.
Hope this provides some relief to some.

I had this happen with my 3GS almost a month ago. No amount of trying to restore would work and the Apple Genius claimed he had never seen anything like it.
My iPhone was bricked with the error 23. I plugged it into XCode and it failed to restore saying there was a radio failure. There was no 3G, no WiFi no edge and no bluetooth. They were all grayed out in settings. Apple replaced my phone with no problem. This is what you will end up having to do as well.
You will be able to restore from your previous backup.

  • Sorting albums in Itunes

How do I sort my albums of the same artist in years and not on the names. I'm using the Artist lookup as you can see below. It's dutch by the way.

I use a much older iTunes but if I click on the albums column header it will change the sort criteria such as by artist by year, an repeated clicks will reverse the sort order.
I don't see any picures.  You have to attach them using the camera icon in the editor window.

  • Sorting order in iTunes power search?

In iTunes power search, I enter some keywords and get a list for apps related with the keyword.
I'd like to know in which order (sorting) apps are listed? weather they are most downloaded, rated, popular, or most visited or what?
And further, is the sorting contry specific?
    Regards.

I just found the power search on another thread. I'm not sure how I got it. Another thread had a link. I signed in and the thread disapeared , Love this site...not.
Anyway I noticed the same thing . I was all excited to be able to limit my search to song title only but it gave me a no results for a song that shows up all mixed in with other songs with similar names with the regular search.
