Sorting folders by date

How does one sort the folders with the library inspector by date and not name.

And remember each of the sub containers can have a sort order applied to them:
So here
And on the folders:

  • Is it possible to sort folders by date that is written in the folders name? eg. folders are named 26 May 2011 and so on

    Hi,
    Question as in the topic: Is it possible to sort folders by date that is written in the folders name? eg. folders are named 26 May 2011 and so on
    Thanks
    Karol

    I sort mine 5.1.11, 5.2.11, etc. - that works (adding letters to the numerals does not work as well). Starting with the month will also work better because there are only 12 of them (rather than a repetition of days).

  • Sort folders by date

    In the thumbnail view the newest pics are at the bottom, the oldest at the top. Great.
    But in my list of folders on the left panel, they're sorted by name, and I get figure out how to sort that list of folders so the newest ones are at the top. Like it is in picasa basically.
    How do I perform this elementary sorting operation?
    Thanks for your time

    jt77474 had this to say:
    Why is there even a folders pane at all then? I don't understand why they included it if they're so anti folders.
    I can't think of a quicker way to jump to my October pictures than to click once on the folder called October. That's what I do in picasa. One click, that's it. Bingo, magic.
    If you make a smart collection that limits itself to capture >= Oct 1,
    and <= Oct 31, then all you do is one click on the smart collection
    called "October Photos". As you say - bingo, magic.
    You had to spend the time to create an October folder, and remember to
    put only specific photos in (those taken in October). Not that different
    from making the time to set up the smart collection.
    Your method demands clicking on metadata, clicking on something else,
    scrolling down the window, resizing, losing screen area to the metadate
    > pane.....
    > basically precious time wasted. How can that be the best approach?
    Because you only do those actions once - to set the filter. As opposed
    to you having to remember to import the photos into the folder that you
    think they belong to (suppose you inadvertently import November photos
    into the October folder; now you'd messed everything up, and will have
    to manually move photos around. With a smart collection, that worry goes
    away).
    Why should I have to spend weeks keywording my images just to make
    the software usable?
    > I don't deny that a well keyworded catalogue is a
    > useful resource, but why does adobe do our thinking for us and
    > restrict users such as me? Why should I have to rename all my
    > folders with a numerical suffix as a workaround for basic
    > functionality?
    Smart collections and searches give you more than basic functionality.
    And you don't have to rename anything. Just make up some smart filters,
    and click on those. You will get the same effects - no, you'll get more,
    since the smart filters can narrow or expand criteria much more than
    just folder names.
    Me, I use a combination of methods. I have folders "2009-04-15 Murals",
    2009-09-27 Murals", etc. But I also have a smart collection called
    "Murals", which shows me only the photos with a keyword of "murals". Now
    I don't have to click on each of the folder names in sequence, looking
    for a specific mural. I click the smart collection, which shows me all
    the murals, regardless of folder location, and I just scroll on down,
    until I see the one I want.
    That's a lot easier, and less clicking, than clicking and looking
    through the dozens of folders I have of mural photos.
    Pretty indefensible to me.
    Then don't use the software. I mean, really - since you say you're
    so adamant that you find these features a hindrance to the way you want
    to work, then you'd be better served by using some other software.

  • Sort Folders in Library by Date or other sort options

    I find myself hunting for folders that I've imported in the Library module.
    It would be so nice if there was an option to sort folders in the Library by date imported or date last edited or ANYTHING other than alphabetically. Seems like a easy and really obvious fix.
    Thanks!

    I too use folders as a primary means of organization. In fact, if Lightroom did not support folders, it would have been a deal breaker - I absolutely would not have bought it, period - its that important to me). We are perhaps a dieing breed - but not dead yet.
    I use collections extensively too for organization, but more for special purposes as opposed to a "lowest common denominator of organization" (folders).
    That said, I name my folders so they show up in the order I want them too - i.e. use a prefix (e.g. numeric) and they'll always be ordered properly. Interesting note: Lighroom is smart enough to auto-detect numeric prefixes and order them correctly without needing to pad with zeros (e.g. '2 Day After New Years' will come before '10 Resolutions - Holding Firm'). However, plenty of other software is not, so I pad anyway (e.g. '02 Day After New Years'... - that way they show up in the correct order when served via DLNA or anything that has alphabetic ordering but is not "numeric-prefix-smart" like Lightroom.
    PS - One of the functions of my up-n-coming Lr-sidekick-app/plugin duo is a (possibly full length) folder pane (which would generally be placed on an auxiliary monitor) - so folders are available in develop mode too. I may add a folder-sort option, although I don't need it m'self.
    Cheers,
    Rob

  • Sorting folders within a catalogue by date

    I have imported my Aperture and iPhoto albums into Lightroom. In my new Lightroom catalogue, they are separated by year taken. Within a given year, however the folders are now sorted alphabetically by folder name, instead of by date (they were organized this way in Aperture, because I was never able to figure out how to sort Aperture albums by date). Each digital photo does have date information recorded. I have tried highlighting all the folders within a given year and clicking View - Sort - Capture time...only to discover Capture Time was already checkmarked. Next I tried un-checking Capture Time, re-highlighting the folders, and checkmarking Capture Time. My folders remain in alphabetical order instead of chronological order. How do I reorganize my folders by date?

    You could do what I do. Build the sequence YYYY/MM/DD into your collection and folder names. Everything stays beautifully in chronological order. Perhaps you could adopt that method going forward and gradually re-name folder within Lightroom. See image:

  • Add ability to sort folders in the library by date (Like Picasa has)

    Sometimes I just want to find a specific folder and edit pictures in it. The problem is, you don't always remember what you named that folder you need. By allowing the folders to be sorted by date, it's usually a lot easier to find the folder because you know about when it was.

    Sounds like you should organise all your folders by date order and give them a descriptive name, That way you can find things far more easily. Then you should keyword the pics so you can find within entrire library.
    here's a fictitious set of folders to demonstrate.
    2008/
    2008-01-January/
    2008-01-29 Gardening
    2008-01-29 Night Out
    2008-01-31 Trip to Zoo
    2008-02-Febuary/
    2008-02-01 Dog's birthday
    2008-02-03 Cat's Birthday
    2008-02-03 Race Meet
    This structure as shown above is also good in that it will survive different programmes and even different OSes. Are you going to rely on Adobe, let along LR being around in 30yrs time? One should never let a programme dictate your fundamental filing structure - iPhoto, iTunes yuck, messy.
    I also try and separate out differing shoots from each day as I'm hardly likely to want to look through gardening and night out shots together and it also speeds up individual folder rendering.
    This specific structure is designed so it will always correctly arrange by date, do this and your problem is solved as LR simply imports your folder structure.
    I've used this for a long time now and it's very robust.
    Though
    2008 - 02 - 17
    also works as does
    2008_02_17
    just be consistent with what ever suits you.
    I prefer using dashes to underscores, more readable and easier to type and I think this method
    20080117
    is stupid/useless [unless you are a computer].
    I use Bridge to import from Cards [LR sucks at importing as it doesn't copy all file types] and you can set Bridge to place images in folders by date shot automatically.

  • How Can I put an Artists Live Albums in a separate folder, so they sort by "Concert Date" in iTunes and do not "intermingle" so to speak with Studio Albums?  Is this possible?

    How Can I put an Artists Live Albums in a separate folder, so they sort by "Concert Date" in iTunes and do not "intermingle" so to speak with Studio Albums?  Is this possible?
    That is about the best way I can phrase my question.
    I put year/month/date at the beginning of a show, hoping for them to sort by date and I get mixed results.
    Would creating a Folder within the Artists' existing folder  that said "Pearl Jam Live", inside the "Pearl Jam" folder in iTunes Media help this "Date Sorting Issue"?
    Thank you.

    Or is there a way to go through aperture to make a new reference library that I can move the masters into later?
    you do not move the masters into a references library - you turn your current library into a referenced library.  As Terence Devlin said:
    File -> Relocate Masters
    What you should set up:
    Select a folder, where you want to store your referenced files - probably on an external drive.
    Decide on a hierarchical folder structure inside this folder - that is completely up to you.
    Select a project from your library and use the command "File -> Relocate Masters/Originals" to move the original image files to the folder where you want to go them to. Only take care not to send two projects to the same folder.
    Alternatively, if you do not care about the folder structure Aperture will use, select all images at once from the "Photos" view and let Aperture decide how to assing the folders - in the "Relocate Originals" dialoge you can specify a subfolder format.

  • Reorganize a big catalog in folders by date

    I typically import my photo's from my camera and reorganize the photos by date.
    However I just had several thousand old printed photographs scanned.
    I have:
    1. Imported the photographs into a seperate new catalog
    2. Labeled all the photographs with keywords
    3. Metadata->Edit Capture Time so that the capture time is now the correct date
    Now I would like to reorganize the photo's into folders by date the usaual yyyy/yyyy-mm/yyyy-mm-dd  by the capture time date.
    I have tried to import them into another catalog either by either "Import Photo's and Video" or by "Import from another catalog" either way the new catalog has the folders by date that the photographs were scanned not by the capture time that I changed.
    How do I do this change the folders to be by capture date?
    Thanks for your help.

    Do a test:
    Open the catalog that contains your scanned images and - in Grid View - click on <All Photographs> in the Catalog Panel. Then do Ctrl / Cmd + "A" to select all images.
    Now go > View >Sort > Capture Date. Will the photos now be
    a) listed in the order of the "real" capture date, or
    b) will they remain in the order of scanning date?
    In case of a): Create folders named for the "real" capture date and select all photos with the first capture date and drag them into the folder. Do this subsequently for the other capture dates.
    In case of b): I don't know. Maybe Lr doesn't accept your adjusted capture date in its "innards" ??? Just as when you change the file name of a photo the original file name is kept in the catalog.

  • Sorting folders and files in FINDER

    I can sort folders and files alphabetically, chronologically, etc using LIST view, but not in any other view.
    I seem to recall that FINDER used to sort alphabetically but now seems to sort randomly. I prefer to use the COLUMNS view.
    In LIST view there are column headers NAME, DATE MODIFIED, SIZE, KIND and clicking on one will sort accordingly.
    But these headers do not appear in the other views.

    Hi,
    This can be done. If you want to arrange your files etc as columns...select "As Columns" from the "View" menu & then select "View Options" also from the "View" menu. It will then give you options as to how you wish to arrange your files etc.

  • How can I sort lines of data (alphabetically) in the new pages 5.0?

    How can I sort lines of data (alphabetically) in the new pages 5.0?
    It was very simple to do in the previou version of pages.

    I'm not sure why people are torturing themselves with Pages 5 given the nearly universal outcry on this forum and the incredibly negative reviews elswhere, such as the App Store.
    Pages 4.3 should still be in an iWorks folder within your Applications folder.  Just use that.
    Please remember to tell Apple what we need from them at:

  • How do I delete duplicate songs in my iTunes? I have hundreds and I don't want to delete them one by one. They were all added on the same date, so sorting by the date won't help.

    How do I delete duplicate songs in my iTunes? I have hundreds and I don't want to delete them one by one. They were all added on the same date, so sorting by the date won't help.

    Hi, if this is in regards to your library simply open up itunes and do the following steps:
    Click File
    Scroll down to "show duplicates"
    A list will then appear of your duplicate song titles.
    Be sure to CAREFULLY review each song to make sure it is a duplicate ( as I have some music that is the same song but live, acoustic etc...)
    Proceed to manually delete each song from the list and leave alone any song that you wish to keep.
    Best of luck,

  • In V_V2 the role of Sort Item by date of creation and Sort by delivery date of earliest schedule line for the Sales Orders when Material is out of Stock.

    Hi All,
    Good Morning,
    I am working on once Incident for Re-Scheduling Program V_V2 where the user has requested us to change the criteria for determining the priority of Sales Document based on Sort Item by date of creation. Currently they are using the Sort by delivery date of earliest schedule line in the Variant.
    I would like to know the role these both options play in the Re-Scheduling program V_V2. I would like to know the impact of both of them and the kind of testing I need to perform to study the behaviour of Sales Orders especially when the material is out of stock?
    Please explain with help of examples.
    Thanks
    Farhan.

    This is not that simple that an example would explain how this transaction works but I'll give you some examples.
    Material A has SO1 and SO2 of 10KG each, stock is 20KG so both quantities are confirmed at today. A stock recount determines a reduction to 5KG. This program would change confirmed quantity of SO1 to 5KG and SO2 to 0KG if:
    Creation date of SO1 is older then SO2 in strategy 1
    1st delivery date of SO1 is smaller then SO2 in strategy 2
    Material B has SO1 and SO2 with 10KG each but no quantity confirmed, stock is 0KG. A prodution adds 15KG to stock. The program would change confirmed quantities of SO1 to 10KG and SO2 to 5KG if:
    Creation date of SO1 is older then SO2 in strategy 1
    1st delivery date of SO1 is smaller then SO2 in strategy 2
    I'm assuming a specific configuration, there are many other scenarios possible.
    regards,
    Edgar

  • Some photos are not sorted correctly by date

    I just imported some photos from my friends camera who were on the same trip. However, I noticed that a couple (not all) of his photos are not sorted correctly by date in the Event. A photo from day 3 somehow comes before the photos from day 2. I checked the extended information and the dates on the photo are correct. Has anyone had this problem and know of a solution? Thanks.

    It might be of some help to delete the photo cache. Please see this link - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314

  • How to use XmlModify to sort the XML Data?

    Hello,
    I saw some examples explain how to use XmlModify in BDB XML package. I want to sort the XML data by several elements but my Java program could not work correctly.
    <CustomerData>
    <Transaction>
    <DLSFIELDS>
    <ADR_PST_CD>12345</ADR_PST_CD>
    <CLT_IRD_NBR>002</CLT_IRD_NBR>
    </DLSFIELDS>
    </Transaction>
    <Transaction>
    <DLSFIELDS>
    <ADR_PST_CD>12345</ADR_PST_CD>
    <CLT_IRD_NBR>102</CLT_IRD_NBR>
    </DLSFIELDS>
    </Transaction>
    // many nodes like transaction ...
    </CustomerData>
    My XQuery script was executed successfully in the shell. The script looks as follows:
    "for $i in collection('sample.dbxml')/CustomerData/Transaction order by xs:decimal($i//ADR_PST_CD), xs:decimal($i//CLT_IRD_NBR) return $i".
    The Java code :
    // create XmlManager
    XmlManager manager = // ...;
    // open XmlContainer
    XmlContainer container = // ...;
    XmlQueryContext context = manager.createQueryContext(XmlQueryContext.LiveValues, XmlQueryContext.Eager);
    XmlQueryExpression expression = manager.prepare("for $i in collection('sample.dbxml')/CustomerData/Transaction order by xs:decimal($i//ADR_PST_CD),xs:decimal($i//CLT_IRD_NBR) return $i", context);
    XmlModify modify = manager.createModify();
    XmlUpdateContext uc = manager.createUpdateContext();
    XmlDocument xmldoc = container.getDocument("sample.xml");
    XmlValue value = new XmlValue(xmldoc);
    long numMod = modify.execute(value, context, uc);
    System.out.println("Peformed " + numMod     + " modification operations");
    Could you point out the errors above or offer some suggestion?
    Thanks.

    I have other question of the sorting issue. Here are a large XML need to sort so I have to split it to multiple small XML files. After importing these files, I will use the XmlModify and XQuery to sort them. I'm not clear on the multiple XML files processing.
    1. Can the BDB XML ensure that all these XML files were sorted or how to update all documents with same logic.
    2. If I want export all these sorted documents, how can I ensure these files processed in sequence? Which document needs process first?
    The export method:
    public void export(String outputfile)throws Exception{
    final int BLOCK_SIZE = 5 * 1024 * 1024; // 5Mb
    try{
    File theFile = new File(outputfile);
    FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(theFile);
    byte[] buff= new byte[BLOCK_SIZE];
    XmlResults rs = container.getAllDocuments(new XmlDocumentConfig());
    while(rs.hasNext()){
         XmlDocument xmlDoc = rs.next().asDocument();
         XmlInputStream inputStream = xmlDoc.getContentAsXmlInputStream();
         long read=0;
         while(true){
         read = inputStream.readBytes(buff, BLOCK_SIZE);
    fos.write(buff,0,(int)read);
         if(read < BLOCK_SIZE) break;
    inputStream.delete();
    xmlDoc.delete();
    rs.delete();
    //MUST CLOSE!
    fos.close();
    catch(Exception e){
    System.err.println("Error exporting file from container " + container);
    System.err.println(" Message: " + e.getMessage());
    Thanks.

  • Sort by Creation Date and TIME!

    I need to sort hundreds of images taken by three photographers and on six different cameras. I sort by Image Date, but it keeps each photographers images together, seems to sort by DATE only, then by file name.
    I have used iView Media Pro to sort this way and it is a GREAT way to organize this type of work. Is there a way to refine how Aperture 1.5.1 does this type of sort?
    At this point, my option appears to be to export my final picks, then resort and rename them in iView Media Pro.

    In the browser section, I clicked on the list view (control-L is the shortcut) and then clicked on the "Image Date" header, and saw all my images sorted by date AND time. Is this what you're looking for? If all the photographers shot on the same date and time, then they'd be intermingled I suppose, but if the times were separated, this should work. Give it a shot anyway.
