Sorting in new Numbers - problem?

I tried to find a way to sort selected rows in the new Numbers version 3 that updates with
Mavericks. The Sort button is gone from the toolbar, and the support page at Apple
only shows how to sort an entire column.
I can't imagine they removed the ability to sort selected rows. Numbers would be
impossible to use without that function. Hopefully I'm missing something here.
Anyone know how to make it work?

If you find new Numbers impossible to use, you can go back to Numbers V2.3. Don't forget to Submit Feedback to Apple in the Numbers menu before you go.

In the previous of Numbers version, I could type in text and it would remind me of all the previous text I had typed. This was extremely helpful to me as I use Numbers a great deal. In the new versions this option doesn't appear to be available. Is there something I need to turn on?

Yes, I understand the convenience of the old Reorganize panel. I thought it was great. The problem is (I'm guessing) that it is really hard to do something like that in Numbers iOS and Numbers for iCloud. So they gave us features that are more likely to work across all platforms.
If you need to sort just selected rows you could put the =A&C&B formula (or whatever order you need) in just the rows you need to sort. Leave the other cells in column D blank.
Or, if you're doing a LOT of partial sorting like that maybe you should have the data in separate tables anyway.
Not saying it's great... just saying there are workarounds... until (if) something like the Reorganize panel comes back by popular acclaim.

Numbers '09 has a Reorganize panel and the top section of that panel is for sorting. Numbers 3 also has the ability to sort and it works. However, Numbers '09 and Numbers 3 sort differently.
In Numbers '09, if you had a formula such as =Table 1::A1 and if a sort of Table 1 moved cell A1 to A20, the formula would change to =Table 1::A20. In Numbers 3, the formula would stay =Table1::A1.

Do I now have to sort massive tables by each column one at a time now? Also there used to be an easier way to merge/unmerge cells without me having to go to the table menu each time. Multiple column sort is a missing feature in the new version. Hopefully soon to return. You can do a multicolumn sort by sorting one at a time in reverse order of importance.
For merging and unmerging cells, I select the cells and right click to bring up the contextual menu. Merge and unmerge are on the menu. You could also create keyboard shortcuts for Merge Cells and Unmerge Cells in the Table menu.

Is there a layout view in the New Numbers?

Hi there,
I loved the layout view. I could work with my document, add and remove cells, resize the documents before I decided to print. Now I can't do the rezing before I print, so I have to go to print to see how it is layed out on the page and if I don't like it, I can't add / delete / resize cells without backing out into the edit pane..
This makes my editing more time consuming..
Does anybody know if there is a way to replicate this funcionality in the new numbers??

The temporary solution you sent me will allow me to edit my existing files. I received another file from an iPad today and that would not open it without version 3.0. I am now behind 50 reports that cannot be billed because of formatting problems. My records [reports] are reviewed by 3 national inspection agencies as well as state and local agencies. These agencies have the ability to shut the major corporations and municipal operations down based on my records. My records can not be late incomplete or inaccurate..
     I must conclude that IMac and Ipad’s are no longer suitable for business use for myself or my sister companies. The IMac’s can still be used with office for mac but the Ipad’s must be used for pictures and music at home. I will advise all sister companies that I will no longer accept data in pages or numbers and can no longer provide reports for their technicians in those programs.
     I am deeply disappointed that after almost 2 years development that proved to be a great savings in time due to iMac iPhone and iPad dependability the project must be scrapped because an update did not add features or correct problems. It removed features and added problems. The reports sent to me from Ipad’s must be completely rebuilt before they can be used. They were emailed which further degrades their usability.
         I will go this evening and purchase Windows products that are suitable for business. I can not wait until Macintosh gets around to a fix [if they do] Because of the numerous hours spent converting these forms to mac and now back to Microsoft I am extremely offended at the lack of consideration for my time and support. Between reports I will take my break and get my frustrations out by writing bad reviews on every business forum I am a member of or simply can find. You are costing me money time and frustration.
         My conclusion in every forum will be Macintosh systems are very dependable but cannot be trusted due to software changes that delete common features necessary to do business. They are not concerned with your business or time. They may or may not react but as a business consumer I have to get the job done not wait for them to realize their mistakes and get around to making the products they sell usable.

Iphone 5 not getting text from new numbers?

im on ios 7.0.4. Recently, ive been having the problem of not getting messages from new numbers. I receive all texts and calls from all current phone numbers ive ever had contact with. But for the past month, any new numbers that text me first, i do not receive them. But if i text and or call them first, it works fine. Which isnt always a convinence. They sent me screen shots of my number and their text; they all have different phones on different services.

Perk123, this is a text messaging mystery! I'm on the case. I recommend that delete all unwanted text messages on your device and power it off/on to soft reset it.
You will also need to advise your friend that has the AT&T iPhone to reset the network on their device. This can be done by accessing Settings >General >Reset >Reset Network.
Lastly your friend needs to verify if your contact has been set up to block calls and text messages from your mobile number. This option is located in Contacts >your contact> Block this caller.

Creation of new numbering interval for FI documents - FBN1 transaction

Dear Experts, good day!
When trying to create new numbering intervals for FI documents (FBN1 transaction), inserting the needed entries to a customizing request (only those new entries, related to future years) and release it to the Quality environment, we have noted the new entries didn't get into the destination system.
Have someone seen this before? Would you know why does that happen? How can we transfer the NRIV table contents to the other environments (Quality and Production)?

To copy number ranges to a new year you do with the transaction OBH2.
When you want to transport number ranges you ask for problems. Only for a new implementation you can do it but not when there are existing number ranges with postings for that company

Sorting the News Items

Hi all
Can we sort the news items created using Xml Form Builder based on the Title in the display iview? 
We are using the KM navigation iview for rendering the news and the user has to get the options for sorting based on news title,date etc in a dropdown in the top of the iview.
(My problem is similar to the sorting options given for the discussion iview. Similar to the options like sorting based on title,author,modified etc provided for discussions we want the same for the news items also.)

Hi Geogi,
You can sort the News items based on Title. For this, you have to find out the layoutset of your iview. Then go to System Administration -> System Configuration -> KM -> CM -> User Interface -> Settings -> LayoutSet. Then select your layoutset. There you will find Collection Renderer. Clicking on the collection renderer will take you to the details page of collection renderer. On the details page, click on Edit button and when the form is editable, click on "Show advanced options" link. There you will see two properties, Property For Sorting and Sorting Mode. For Property For Sorting give the value : cm:displayname and select the appropriate sorting mode.
This should do the job for you.

For your second question, i.e. providing a drop down box for selecting the property on which to sort, I think you will have to go for a new layoutset. I am not sure if you can use the existing layoutset to get this functionality. Anyway I'm not sure about this. Let's wait to see what other SDNers have to say about that.

Sort Facility in Numbers not letting me select it ?

I am viewing an excel file in Numbers, when i click on the drop down menu at the top of the column the two sort options are greyed out so i can't select them, I have tried clicking on "more Options" and when I have selected the column I want to sort it just beeps at me to say no.
Has anyone got any ideas what could be causing this and how I can possibly fix it ... ?

The most common reason for sorting to be disabled is that somewhere in the column you have selected to sort, there are merged or split cells. When you attempt to sort such a column there are natural ambiguities as to which content to sort on, and Numbers doesn't attempt to resolve them. It just declines to sort. Your recourse is to examine the table and try to eliminate the splits and merges, or to sort on another column. I've never tried, but I suppose it might be possible to create a new column for sorting that references the particular cells/data you know that you want to use.

New year problem? - files 'deleted'

i open up an aw file - make changes - try to save - get a window that says file has been deleted - cannot save as either - and other funny garbled window mesages appear when i try and open other aw docs - evrything else is fine
seems like it could be some sort of new year thing -
any ideas what to do

It's unlikely that this is a "New Year's" issue. The most probable cause is a corrupted preferences file.

For future reference: Using the search feature can lead to a quick answer to many problems. For this one, a search, restricted to the AppleWorks forum, using "has been deleted" (without the quotes) brought up four posts on this topic, including a reference by Peggy to her User Contributed Tip, on the first page of results.

How can I convert an old Numbers file to be compatible with the new Numbers version, without having access to the old?

I received a Numbers file created in iWorks version 8 or earlier, but only have the newest version of Numbers on my MacBook Air. I can't request the sender to reformat the file. Is there any way to convert the file so I can open it in the new Numbers version?

Are you sure you don't still have Numbers from iWork '09 on your MacBook Air. My Mid 2012 does. To be certain you can look in the Applications folder to see if there is an iWork 09 folder. You can also use Spotlight search to see if it will find that Numbers as well as the current one.

I upgraded to the new Numbers, but when I try to open an edited spreadsheet, I get this: "You need a newer version of Numbers to open this spreadsheet. You can download the latest version of Numbers from the Mac App Store." Help!

When I check for upgrades, my computer "No updates available" and says "OS X Update Version 10.9.2 installed Mar 9, 2014."
When I go to the app store to get the new Numbers, it says "installed".
I shut down and rebooted my computer, but I still get the message that says I need new Numbers to open the spreadsheet that I want to open. I can open other spreadsheets, those all work. I just can't open the one I want. Please help. I need the data on that spreadsheet TODAY!!!

If you try to invent your own syntax, you are starting on very wrong basis.
The required syntax is defined by the Numbers AppleScript's dictionary.
This one doesn't know what is a template.
This is why, in the link posted by badunit, I use an other scheme to create a new document.
I know that it's awful but it's the only one available at this time.
