Sorting incoming mail

I see any choices under smart folder creation for sorting mail into folders according to "To". As an example, I have multiple mail accounts drawing in mail and would like to sort anything sent to my work domain into a separate "Inbox". Any thoughts?

If you have multiple email accounts, there is a separate Inbox mailbox under "In" for each account.
Open "In" by selecting the black triangle next to "In" pointing it down to reveal the account named Inbox mailbox for each account.
Selecting an account named Inbox mailbox reveals messages received by the selected account only in the message list. Selecting "In" reveals a blended Inbox mailbox for all accounts and the same applies under Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk (when Junk Mail is set to automatic) in the mailboxes drawer.
A Smart Mailbox is a virtual mailbox only. Messages available in a Smart Mailbox contain a copy or pointer to the original message in the originating mailbox. If you delete the original message from the originating mailbox, it will also be deleted or removed from the Smart Mailbox.
You can also create an "On My Mac" location mailbox which is not a virtual mailbox and you can sort received messages to user created mailboxes by category by creating a rule in Mail with multiple criteria, etc.

  • I suggest, that it would be nice, if there is a "Mark read" button in notify (about an incoming mail).

    Hello!
    I've got a suggestion.
When a new email comes there is a notify popup.
There is just "x" button on it.
So, the notification is active, until I open an email.
But I do not need to open all emails I receive.
So, it would be nice if there is a new button "Make read" in an popup, and in notification icon right button menu in future versions of Thunderbird.
    Best regards,
    Oleg

There is a way. First, Firefox is only a browser. It sends and receives
data and displays it on your screen.
    The problem is at Live Mail. Here is what to do;
Open your mailbox. Now open your mail options. In the options you
will find how to sort incoming mail.
There is also a filter that when active, only sends mail from those
you choose to go to the Inbox. All other mail is sent to the Junk folder.

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that use CMAK to configure split tunneling on VPN clients, traffic to specified devices can be routed via their own default gateway.
If the manually added route entries all have default metric and interface, clients will select one by the default routing rule, can’t select one of them according to clients’ own conditions. So, I am afraid that CMAK can’t implement the function which you need.
A blog described about How to configure split tunneling on VPN clients using CMAK, for your reference:

  • After migrating I can no longer define filter rules, as TB states "No available folders" - incoming mails are sorted according to the existing rules into folder

I had to setup a new computer. I moved the profile data as described here. A new folder (just the icon) appeared out of nowhere (it can't be moved, renamed, deleted, etc.)
When I highlight a message and select Message -> Create Filter from message, I can not create a rule to move mail to a folder, as the field where I can select the target folder is grayed and it says "No available folders", which isn't true, I have lots of folders, and existing rules that route incoming mail into the correct folders (which have been defined before the move).
I can not exclude that this isn't related to the move, but to a newer ThunderBird version, as I do not create rules that often.
I use ThunderBird for different mail accounts with different providers.

    Hello,
    I found the solution.
For an unknown reason, one of my accounts was defective. I noticed that I did not receive emails from this account and found it that it had turned into that ghost folder.
After deleting this account (and creating a new account instead), I can again create rules as before.
I hope someone from the developers takes a look into this, it's quite embarassing.

  • I've recently switched routers on my iMac. The set-up appeared to go well, and my incoming mail is working, but my outgoing mail is not. I spent a long time sorting out the problem with my provider, who told me the problem is on the "Apple side".

I've recently switched routers on my iMac. The set-up seemed to go well, and the incoming mail works. The outgoing mail is the issue - it sits in the outbox buffering and doesn't send. After several calls to my service provider they decided the issue was on the "Apple side" since my internet connection seemed to be working fine, and all input information was correct - ports selected, etc. Any ideas what to try next?

Open Keychain in Utilites and delete all the "outgoing" entries (will probably be smtp.<your ISP name>.net). Then go into Mail Preferences>Accounts, clear out any passwords for the outgoing. Can't say exactly where this is or what this looks like in 10.7, since I'm running 10.6. Then enter new (EDIT: or can be the same old ones) passwords, or password. Allow Keychain to save those new ones.
FWIW, here's what this looks like in mine.

  • Getting "Error in sieve filter" message with each incoming mail and cannot recieve or send mail to or from iCloud account apart from Apple emails!! Please help!

Since approx 7am GMT I've been getting "Error in sieve filter" message with each incoming mail, worse though, since about 12 noon I cannot recieve or send mail to or from my iCloud account apart from I've been getting  emails from Apple (ie I've just received a welcome one from Apple Support Communities...)!! I've had this account for years, never had a problem - it can't be the OSX Mail server because the problem is the same when I log directly into iCloud. I've tried sending emails from my Hotmail account to my iCloud account (a .mac) and just get undeliverable messages back. I'm really in the s**t now at work. : (  I just set up a Smart TV yesterday with a wireless dongle - that's the only thing I've done out of the ordinary. I've spoken to Sky who are my ISP and they say all's fine with them (although the router kept kicking my off the internet this morning which was strange...). Router seems fine now though.  I'm really hoping someone here can help!!
    Many thanks!!

Do you think once Apple sort this out I'll get my missing emails back?

  • HT4759 Incoming mail server reset

My email on my Mac worked fine for years until a few days ago.
I can see the emails in icloud and they are being sent to my iphone and ipad
    But not to my computer
The system is asking me to name the incoming mail server but the box is greyed out and I can't enter the required information.
Probabaly trivial but I need to sort it out
    Thanks for any help.

I did retore the ipod to factory settings, I believe that the information was correct. I even deleted the account and re-entered. when it verifies This message comes up
    The IMAP Server
"apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com" is not responding. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the "Incoming Mail Server" field.
I can not even find the Incoming Mail Server.

  • 2 copies of incoming mail

Someone just gave me a macbook. When I set up Mail (Version 2.1.1 (752.3), with 3 accounts set up exactly as Mail (Version 2.1.3 (753.1) on my old ibook, I get two copies of incoming mail. I can get rid of that by making one of the accounts inactive, but that solution makes me nervous (afraid I might miss some emails). Can someone please help me find the right solution to this problem?

Hi- I ran "Software Update" a second time before your message came in, this time I got Mail 2.1.3 as part of a security update. I also repaired the permissions. Unfortunately this did not solve the problem. However there is a new clue: the problem happens only with one of the secondary addresses (the one I use most frequently), again seemingly implying some sort of set up problem. I got the computer from a friend as a gift the other day. It had no hard drive whatsoever. I installed a new Hitachi 500gb drive, formatted it and installed the software from the disks that come with the computer (if all of that is of any help). Again, I appreciate your help. -Howard

  • Incoming Mail Sound

    G'day All,
Can anyone offer any advice on how to implement one of the sounds on offer on my iMac to alert me to incoming mail?
Apple Support tell me it SHOULD work but can't tell me why it doesn't.
Please keep any responses non-technical folks, you're talking to a Queenslander...
    Thanks in advance, Bill

    Hi Carolyn,
Sorry for the delay but we've been catching up with Australia's disasters, the top half is under water and the bottom half has gone up in flames, hundreds of homes lost in Victoria and the tragic loss of 25 lives and counting.
OK... I didn't get the full content of your last reply in my email, only the bit down to the thread item so have jumped the gun a bit to a degree and yes, I had read about Play Sound which I've downloaded (the 1.6.7 version).
This has proved to be a total disaster and although I've got my doorbell.aif file in Applications and can get it into Playsound I can't bring up the "Open with: Play Sound (default)" as per the Read Me file
'cos the window that opens up from the File > Get Info is purely version information!
On top of that, when I close the Play Sound window on my desktop, the doorbell vanishes too...
The good news is that I've achieved some success by following Mr LF's advice and I've now got the doorbell going berserk when I get incoming mail! Of course I've also got iTunes being launched as well but after after hours of blood, sweat and tears, what the ****?! Now if I can just get Play Sound sorted...
As a result of the above, I haven't followed your "And just for kicks" suggestion dependent on whether you feel it's still worth doing. I did try the "New Mail Sound" thing (prior to Apple scripting) without success.
We're getting there Carolyn, we're getting there!

  • INCOMING MAIL DATE  JANUARY 1, 2000

    Dear Folks,
New to this forum. First time I ever needed to login.
Anyway, my incoming mail has suddenly dated itself january 1, 2000 and is making itself to the bottom of 6000 saved messages. It should be on top as I always sort by newest date on top.
Does anyone know why and how I can fix this annoying little problem???
    Sincerely, Michael

Ok, you have probably done this, but here goes.
    Go to "system preferences"
    click "date & Time"
Just make sure the date time / timezone / country all matches up with where you are. If not, set it correctly, and see what happens.
    Good luck there

  • Exchange Incoming Mail Routing

    Hi,
I want to test a scenario where currently I have 4 Physical Exchange 2010 servers (3 are in a DAG). They all have their own external IP addresses and can all receive and send mail. I would like to test the scenario where Only 1 of the servers is receiving
the mail although the "internet" can send to any of the 4, therefore I assume this is a network routing style issue, however is there anything in Exchange where I can send incoming mail to 1 server before it hits one of the other 3? Currently it
would appear any of the 4 receive mail at any time and it's all a little random.
I would be happy to keep outgoing as it is for the time being.
Background Info: I inherited a very patchy/ broken 2007-2010 upgrade 2 years ago and am just starting to sort out the minor irritations e.g. spam, certificate warnings and backups!
Thank You for any advice you can give.
    regards,
    Jonathan Ward

You could always try the telnet method. The e-mail doesn't have to come from outside your organization for you to test this, all you need is the ability to establish a SMTP session and complete a single transaction.
    Try something like this:
    ==================
    telnet <ip-address-of-server-1> 25
    helo
    mail from:<[email protected]>
    rcpt to:<[email protected]>
    data
    from: [email protected]
    to: [email protected]
    subject: blah blah blah
Leave a blank line after the subject
    quit
    =====================
Or you can just drop a correctly formatted text file (with a ".eml" extension) into the pickup directory on any one of the machines.

  • HT4864 Incoming mail server problem with iCloud . . .

The incoming mail server dialog box is "greyed out" and I cannot type in the iCloud server. Why is this and how can I fix it?

This is a larger problem than the email server: it may be a temporary server glitch or something more serious with your account. Unless you are in a hurry about it I should leave it for a day and see if it sorts itself out. If it doesn't you may need to contact Support: if you currently happen to have AppleCare, either because you recently bought Apple hardware or have paid to extend the inititial period, you can contact them here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/
You will need the serial number of the covered hardware.
If you are not covered by AppleCare, then - in common with other free email services - there is no free support and you may be asked to pay a fee: you should point out that this is their problem and that you shouldn't need to pay for it.

  • OSX Lion Mail Server Junk Mail Filter blocks incoming mail from any Yahoo address

I have yet to be able to use OSX Lion Mail Server's Junk Mail Filter.  I have several contacts who use (free) Yahoo Mail addresses.  Whenever I turn on Junk Mail Filter, even at the Most Cautious setting, any incoming mail from Yahoo.com addresses do not make it into my inbox.  I was told last year by an Apple Enterprise Tech Support contact that "..we're still having problems with that Junk Mail Filter, sorry, just leave it off for now.."  WTH  In the meantime, the good news is I'm not missing any incoming e-mails; but, I'm having to sort through and delete a few hundred spam messages each day.
    Suggestions?  Thanks in advance

I agree with the points made by Strontium90. If you have any PCs then Apple's mail/contacts/calendar software is a poor choice. Kerio Connect as a mail/contacts/calendar server would not only support Macs but would also do a good job supporting PCs running Outlook.
If you are going to become a pure Apple site, then you could use just the Apple software and this would be cheaper than using Kerio. For 30 users this might be a suitable solution, however even in a pure Apple environment many people prefer Kerio. For example I find Kerio much more pleasent when dealing with email addresses across multiple domains, email aliases, email group addresses, and so on. Kerio also has built-in email archiving, that is keeping a record of all emails. Kerio also provides a web-browser client for accessing email, calendar and contacts. It is worth noting that as standard Mountain Lion Server no longer includes a webmail feature. While I personally find the Kerio webclient rather ugly it does work.
There are some annoyances I have with Kerio, firstly they have always charged a 'maintenance' fee for their software. This provided access to software updates, and in the past also provided access to Kerio technical support. Unfortunately they now only let you make two (2) support cases per year for that cost, and you now have to pay extra for any more cases. Also while they added support for EWS (Exchange Web Service) to allow using Outlook 2011 for Mac as a supported email client, they did a poor job of this so that it does not work properly with any other EWS compatible client. This means it will not work in EWS mode with Apple Mail, nor with Outlook for Windows. While there are other ways to connect these other clients, this seems a foolish move and there have been plenty of requests to fix this.
Apple's Mail client uses EWS to connect to a 'real' MS Exhange server.
