Sorting of Multi-Disc Audiobooks not corretly - iTunes 11

Hello all,
After i upgraded to iTunes 11, my audiobooks are not sorted correctly now (Like it was before the update).
Before it was sorted like:
Disk01 Track01
Disk01 Track02
Disk01 Track03
Disk02 Track01
Disk02 Track02
Disk02 Track03
Disk03 Track01
Disk03 Track02
Disk03 Track03
Now its sorted like that:
Disk01 Track01
Disk02 Track01
Disk03 Track01
Disk01 Track02
Disk02 Track02
Disk03 Track02
Disk01 Track03
Disk02 Track03
Disk03 Track03
But i cann't change the track number. I have about 400 Audiobooks with Multiple-Disks and Tracks.
If i click on "List", the Sorting is correct.
If i change one Audiobook to "Music", the sorting is correct. But that is not a solution, because i have more than 200 Music CDs there.
Furthermore, I want iTunes 11 to sort the Audiobooks by the Author. This makes much more Sense!
what i mean e.g.: All audiobooks of J.R.R. Tolkien should be sorted by "J" and not like it is now, by the name of the novel.
I want the "Audiobooks" to be sorted by the same way as they would be (and are) sorted in "Music".
I spent so many days to get it sorted perfectly in iTunes 10. And now its all gone.
I would appreciate it very much if someone could help me.
Best regards,
Chris

Apple devices have always sorted audiobooks on the name field, instead of the disc number and track number values. This has normally made it tricky to listen to non-iTunes sourced audiobooks. It looks like iTunes 11 has now taken on the same rules. See Audiobooks on iPods for some possible workarounds.
Took me some time to "see" your problem because my books still order sensibly in iTunes. I routinely fix the track numbers so that multi-disc albums/audiobooks have consecutive track numbers. For audiobooks I recycle the disc numbers as series numbers for books that are part of a series. Together with suitable sort names I get the series listed together, in the right order, with the tracks of each book in the right order, in iTunes and on my iPods.

  • ITunes 11 not sorting multi-disc audiobooks by disc number

I just updated to iTunes 11, and for some reason, my multi-disc audiobooks are not being ordered by disc number in the Books view. Instead, it goes track 1 of disc 1, track 1 of disc 2, etc.
The tracks have the disc numbers in their metadata, so why aren't they being sorted that way?
This issue does not occur for music tracks, however. Puzzling, eh?

This worked perfectly for me. Thank you Giacomo!

Guys, I have the ultimate solution!
    Use the following Applescript:
Embed Disc Number in Track Number v1.0
Applies selected tracks' disc number as hundreds digit in track number

    date posted: July 14, 2009 - total downloads 926
    you can find it at:

It is a reversible operation by definition!

  • Join Multi-disc Audiobooks

    Hello
How do I get multi disc audiobooks (that are already imported) to show up in itunes 11 as one book as opposed to multiple books (ie book had 10 CDs now I have 10 books).  It is a hassle to sort through the books and also hard to figure out on my iphone which book is next.  I have tried setting it as a compliation but that didn't do anything.

I think I just figured it out. For anyone else who had this same question this is what I did:
    Selected all of the books.
    Get Info
Put the book's title in the album and the grouping box.
Go to the options tab and select that it is part of a compliation.
I'll start listening to one of the audiobooks that I did this for tomorrow.  Hopefully I didn't mess it up.

  • Ipod classic recognised as external disc, but not by itunes

I've had a 120gb Classic for a while and more recently got an iphone. I had no problems with either, until recently. When I attach my classic, itunes does not recognise that it is there, yet it still appears as an external drive on my desktop. I am not aware of any changes I have made or that might have led to this issue.
    All help much appreciated!

    Further update:
I've tried resetting the ipod. I've tested it with two cables and two usb ports that all work fine with my iphone and other usb devices. I've reinstalled itunes. I'm reluctant to fully restore the ipod just yet and wonder if anyone has any other suggestions?
    Many Thanks

  • Will not load itunes 6

i had itunes 4 on my computer, but when brought new ipod needs version 6 to run, the disc will not reistall itunes, keeps come up with error 1335 about data cab. have tried the crib sheet on window install - no joy, have removed all old version and still will not load and also downloaded itunes over the net and same load up problem
    any idea please

Matthew Sliva's response saved the day. I had been trying for hours, following every lead, every suggestion. Going into Windows\Downloaded Installations and deleting the appropriate folders/files helped immensely. After that I had trouble with loading QuickTime, but once I went into Program Files\QT\QT System\QT Essentials.Resources\nlproj and deleting it everything loaded up fine and I now have my iTunes back. Almost makes one not want to upgrade to the latest version.
    Incredibly frustrated no more

  • How to tell which items are in iTunes library on disc but not in program library?

I made a mistake the other night and I deleted some items from my iTunes library ... but NOT from disc.
These items are still in my 65 gig iTunes library on disc.  Somewhere.
I'd like to re-add these songs.  Is there any way to tell which songs in the iTunes library on disc are not in the iTunes program library?
I don't want to have to add all 65 gigs again and then remove all the duplicates
    thanks!

You should try dragging some files already in the library into iTunes to see what happens. I just did, and the new iTunes 10.6 seems to be ignoring them. I then made a copy of a file already in the library, and I added both it and the original by dragging and dropping. Only the new file was added. There was no warning about duplicates in either test. So you may be able to drag your whole library back into iTunes.
For when you do want to determine what files on disk aren't in the iTunes library or vice versa, here's one way to do it (if there's an easier way, I'm all ears):
Export your library as a playlist to a text file.
Use a program that can recursively list all your files on disk as full paths and save its output to a text file.
Load the into a decent text editor. I use Notepad++. Then use a regexp search/replace to tidy up the files so that both consist of one fully qualified filename per line.
    Sort the files.
Diff the files and examine the differences.
    I can do both 4 and 5 in Notepad++.

  • Sorting Complete Audiobooks, Not Tracks

I have an iTunes sorting question but it is not about ordering tracks within an audiobook but about the ordering of complete audiobooks in the Books > Audiobooks view.
For several authors I have many audiobooks and what I want to do is have the audiobooks library sorted first by author and then have them ordered chronologically within the author.  I have been using Get Info and trying to enter information in the various fields to make this happen but can't figure out how iTunes does the sorting.
It is very confusing to me and I cannot find anyplace that it is explained.
    I'm using iTunes 11.11 and OS X 10.8.5.

Unchecked tracks are skipped during normal track to track playback and are usually excluded from syncing to devices. I use them for things like bonus interview tracks which I will keep in my library but don't want to play accidentally when listening to the album. There is a preference to hide the checkboxes if you don't have a use for them.

    Library Duplicated
I just updated to the latest version of iTunes and it duplicated virtually every track in my library. I need a quick way to delete the duplicates. Sorting by "Date Added" will not work, because every track is listed as added on 12/12/2011 even though this happened today 12/19/2011.

I've written a script called DeDuper which can help remove unwanted duplicates. See this  thread for background.

  • HT1382 Backups from iTunes  to Disc is not available in iTunes 11.1.5.5.

    Hi,
    1. Backup from iTunes to Disc is not available in iTunes 11.1.5.5.
    2. Also, while backing up iTunes on Windows PC, the old back is deleted!
    3. How can we keep two versions of iTunes back up? Simple need for any user!
    Regards, Ramani

1 - See this backup tip.
2 & 3 - If you are refering to device backups see your other thread. If you want multiple snaphots of the iTunes library then the tool in 1. above can be used for that too. Create multiple backup pairs with different destinations and operate them in rotation.

  • Audiobooks not showing up on ipod nano with iTunes 8.0

Help! My audiobooks are not showing up on my ipod nano. They are in the audiobook catagory in itunes and the audiobook catagory shows up when my ipod is plugged into the computer, however when I unplug it I can't find the files! There is no Audiobook catagory or playlist on my ipod (unlike the on the computer). Has anyone else had this problem and figured out a solution? Thanks!

I have the same problem. If you look under 'Albums' you will find the books listed there but they behave as 'Music files'. Apple need to fix this but when?

  • I imported a multi-disc album to itunes. How can I combine the 7 discs under one album title?

Each disc was imported separately, showing Disc01, Track A-J. There are 7 seven discs for this item (CD audiobook).
In iTunes each disc is shown by itself.

I'm having the same trouble, but it looks like no one is responding.  Hope someone does soon.

  • Itunes failed to install properly / disc recording not found

Bought my daughter a new notebook (hp pavillion dv9000 w/ windows vista)& every time I install itunes the error message that it was "not installed correctly & may not import from cd's be able to burn cd's" appears. I've uninstalled itunes & quicktime and then reinstalled several times only to have the same error. All updates are done. Itunes will recognize a cd in the drive and import, but when attemting to burn to cd it displays "disc recording not found". Couldn't find anything on the support page. Any one care to offer any help for a frustrated father?

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7,now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP,head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "Apple Application Support", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post. (If you've got XP, although the procedure is for Vista and 7, just read "Computer" as "My Computer", read "Uninstall a program control panel" as "Add or Remove programs control panel" and assume the system is 32-bit, and you'll be doing the right things.)

  • Parts of Audiobooks not making into iTunes

Copied 2 audiobooks from CDs using a program called Audiobook Builder that imports CDs w/o breaking each chapter into a “song”. Then dragged and dropped the audiobook files for each audiobook unto Audiobook page in iTunes. I had first tried to import using the Add to Library in iTunes. Selected files, clicked Open, but each time it did nothing, no warning or alert. Simply didn’t add audiobook files to iTunes Library. When I dragged-and-dropped, as usual, iTunes treated the audiobook as Music, an unknown album by an unknown artist.  Each disk is an m4b. Why doesn’t iTunes know it’s an audiobook?
When I did the drag-and-drop not all the disk files were imported into iTunes. on 1st book, the first disk is missing. Did process twice. Same result. On 2nd book, disks 1-6 didn’t import.
I know that iTunes is, shall we say, less than ideal for audiobooks. That’s why I got Audiobook Builder. What why is iTunes not importing?
    Thanks for help

I also have this problem from time to time. I have learned to check my songs with this little app called MP3 Validator. I scan the songs with MP3 Val and fix them. Then I can drop them into iTunes and they add with no problem and then play.

Help!? Have tried to troubleshoot this for days. Have successfully burned cd's in the past...now I just get 'disc recording not found' in message box at the top of iTunes. Does anyone know how to resolve this? Thanks.
