Sorting of TV episodes?

The sorting of my series of fringe is weird. Episode 1 is at the bottom, that's fine. But as it's going up, it goes 1, 4, 3, 2, 7, 6, 5 etc. How can I sort out the order in which it shows the episodes?
Each ep has it's name, season and episode number but no episode id. Under sorting all it has is the Name/Sort name of the ep and "Show" is Fringe. That's it.
Any ideas? Thanks.

I bet if you remove the Sort Name on the Sorting tab you will be fine. Just leave it blank. On the Sorting tab have Name, Artist (this is the tv show name) and Show (again tv show name) filled out. the rest can be blank - again Sort Name MUST be blank.
if that doesn't work on it's own, also do the following:
If you are just dealing with a handful of episodes, best bet is to add an episode id. You can add any sequential number you want. For example for Season 2 episode 4, you could enter a number like 204.
If you do a wikipedia search on the show, it will usually list the episodes with a production code - use this as the Episode ID. Sort in Itunes by Episode Id (though I don't think this makes a difference to the apple tv sort).
All of my tv shows are tagged this way and display fine on apple tv.

  • Sorting TV Show Episodes

When viewing a specific TV show's episodes in ITunes, they are sorted by episode number. However, FR insists on sorting episodes alphabetically. Is there a way to get FR to sort by episode number instead?
Thanks in advance for the help!

Solved my own problem.  After posting my question, I browsed through the "more like this" suggestions.  It seems my iPod is now sorting by Episode ID on the Video info tab.  And even though all of my tv episodes were purchased through iTunes, not all of the episode ids were correct.  Or even the same.  Some were just 1, 2, 3, etc. Others were 1, 2, 103, S1E4, S1E5, 106, 7, etc.  And some were just wrong, identifiying episode 3 of season 1 with the episode id of 104.  So I've corrected 2 seasons, synced them, and they synced in the correct order.

  • How Do I Sort Videos By Episode/Season and Not Name?

I commented on an older thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12379142#12379142) but think that this topic might deserve its own.
I am kind of frustrated that I have uploaded two TV series to my iPad and the video player is showing the videos sorted by episode name alphabetically. This is pretty dumb, since I want to watch the episodes in the order they were released and not the arbitrary order of their alphabetical sorting.
I have tried assigning season numbers, episode numbers, track numbers, release dates, all kinds of stuff. Nothing seems to change the iPad video app's alphabetical sort.
Can anyone show me where I am going wrong?
    Scott

I just opened up iTunes while my iPad is connected to see what options are available for ordering the movies on the iPad directly. The video sync page that you refer to shows the movie icons in a grid format with a checkbox to determine if they should be synced with the device. The icons cannot be moved.
I have tried playing with the order and tags of the movies in the iTunes LIBRARY->Movies list but nothing I do there to the movies' info (or display, obviously) has any effect on how the iPad's video app sorts the movies.

  • ITunes Video Sorting Issue

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro and am in the process of moving all of my music and videos from my PC to an external hard drive that I purchased. When I import some of the video into iTunes they are completely out of order.
The videos in question are TV Shows purchased directly from the iTunes Store. Most of the videos are not effected, however some are and I can't seem to figure out how to resolve it.
For example, I have the first 3 seasons of Lost. The first 2 seasons, sort fine. Looking at Season 3, the sort order is completely messed up even though the shows are tagged correctly (as they should be because I purchased them from iTunes). Yet, they are sorted like this: Episodes 1,3,2 etc.
This is also the case for Prison Break Seasons 1 and 2 and South Park Season 10.
Anyone that can shed some light on this, I would greatly appreciate it.
I would like to add that these same files sort just fine on my PC with iTunes 7, the Mac has the newly released 7.1

    Hi Paul,
I had a similar problem about a month ago with some files I had tagged with incorrect episode numbers. (in the Track field under Info) With no "of ##" value, tagging an incorrect episode number and correcting resulting in my fix.
    Try this...
Make sure you have backup copies of the entire season's videos (if possible) in a folder that is NOT in your iTunes library folder. If you are short on hard drive space, find the actual files in the iTunes library folder and move them into a new folder on the Desktop.
Once you've copied these, go back into iTunes, and under Preferences -> Advanced -> General, uncheck the option that says "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library".
Remember - at this point you have backup copies of the videos, safe in a folder on the Desktop... from the iTunes window, delete all of the videos for that particular season from the library. (again, let me re-emphasize the importance of backing up these video files)
At this point, if the original files are still in the iTunes Library folder (if you made copies of the files), iTunes will ask whether you wish to move the files to the Trash - click "Yes". If you simply moved the originals out of the iTunes Library folder and into a new folder, this option shouldn't appear - you are now just removing the library references to the files.
Now, re-drag the backup files into the iTunes library window, where it should process them and add them to its library. If all is successful, the sort order should be restored. (provided that the correct Track number was populated into the ID3 tag)
If so, create a folder in <user> -> Music -> iTunes -> iTunes Library (something like that... I can't remember the actual path offhand, am at work at the moment away from my Mac) and copy the formerly-backup files here. iTunes should recognize the change in directory; use Apple-I to "Get Info" and check the bottom of the Summary tab for the file's path, it should be associating the video file with the new directory.
Restore all of your original options ("Copy files to iTunes Music Folder...") as they were for future imports, and you should be good to go.
Hope this helps... again, I am at work at the moment, and am recreating my problem/remedy in my head step by step.

  • Sorting movies on nano

I have movies which are actually tv shows on itunes/nano. They are throughly tagged which allows me to sort them by Episode ID on itunes, but does the nano support any sorting because it appears my nano just sorts them by name? That's not exactly ideal and I'll have to rename all my shows with a prefix like 01, 02, etc.

    Hi MoviesandJunk,
If you purchased the movie in iTunes on your computer, it may have downloaded the High Definition (HD) version. To sync to your iPod nano, you may need to redownload the Standard Definition (SD) version. You may find the following article helpful:

  • My TV Shows Used to sort in Chronological order, but now???? Help.

I have an entire series on my iPod, and it used to display in chronological order. Then I upgraded to the iPod Classic, and now they display in alphabetical order. The sub heading for each show reads, "no release date for this program", but there isn't a place for me to manually type in a release date. Why can't I sort them by episode number, like on the 5th Gen iPod?

check out http://www.lostify.com for an awesome script for iTunes that allows you to edit every aspect of the ID3 tag that your mp4 or m4v files have. Once you download the script and install in iTunes, you'll see a Lostify menu option. Highlight the TV show(s) that you want to edit, select Lostify and you're all set. You get to input the release date, episode numbers and lots of other information that you can't edit with the basic information screen within iTunes. Once done, it will rewrite your file with the new ID3 tag information and when you sync the shows to your ipod, they will all show the release date and be organized accordingly. Enjoy!

  • Video Sorting

On my iPod Touch I have 14 episodes of the same TV Show from a bunch of seasons. When I click on the TV Show, I get all of my choices but they are in alphabetical order instead of by season. Is there a setting i can change or something to order the episodes correctly? This gets pretty annoying.

I don't know about the 1G iPod Touch firmware, but I have a 64GB iPod Touch and I'm having similar problems with sorting. If you tag videos correctly, by putting in episode numbers, season numbers, titles, etc., things aren't exactly sorted alphabetically. The iPod groups all episodes from a show together, instead of breaking them out by season. Then it sorts them by episode number. When the episode number matches another, it breaks the tie using the episode title. So, if you have several seasons together, it groups all the first episodes together, then the second episodes of each season, etc.
I find it pretty annoying too. Please go to Apple's feedback page at http://www.apple.com/feedback/ and ask them to fix this problem.

  • Video sorting on ipad IOS7?

Is there a way to trigger sorting of videos in ios7 on the latest iPad?
It was working fine on IOS6, but as soon as I updated, the TV shows just sort by episode title, not by episode number.
I have the tracks numbered correctly on the Info tab and the episode IDs and Numbers on the Video tab in iTunes, but once they get copied over to the iPad, they just sort by episode title.
When I connect to my shared iTunes library, everything is sorted correctly by episode number. This issue is only for video files copied onto the iPad.

  • Sorting podcast on iPod by release date

I have been googling solution for this problem but none of the solution that people suggesting really works. So the problem is I can sort podcasts by release date in iTunes but on my iPod I cannot. iPod automatically sorts all the episodes by name which is not what I want. I need a chronical order.
Is there any way to sort podcasts by release dates on iPod touch?
    Thanks,

I'd also like to be able to sort contacts by Business->User (like iTunes does with albums->songs).
Address Book also needs some kind of "Business"-merging of all people inside a single business (so we don't have to repeat all information such as fax, URL, address, etc).

  • IPod Touch 64GB Model, (3.1.2), way to sort TV Shows by season?

Is there a way to sort the TV Shows by season after you go into the TV Show's name? As an example, on my iTouch I bought and got Futurama Seasons 1-5, when going to videos a huge list appears, but at the bottom the Show's name shows up, when I tap it, it brings up a list of all the episodes throughout Futurama, which is sorted by episode number, rather than season, then episode number. Is there a way to fix this, or will I have to wait for a future update for this to be fixed.

I'd love to see Apple bring back this feature. Apple vastly underestimates how many hours of video can fit in 64GB. With my encoding settings (which make use of the newer iPod's support for more advanced H.264 encoding settings, namely B-frames), I can fit about 250 hours of video on my iPod (if I got rid of my music and apps).
Hopefully Apple will do something about this. It's hard to find specific episodes when they don't sort by season. To make matters worse, because there's no Season grouping, the sorting order for episodes gets messed up. All episode 1's from the various seasons get put together, then the episode 2's, etc.
There are several other threads on these forums discussing this issue. I called Apple's tech support line, where I was assured that the issue would get fixed in future firmware. But, at the same time, it doesn't sound like the tech support guys really have a good way of communicating with the firmware developers, so I'm not holding my breath. In the meantime, I recommend going to Apple's feedback at www.apple.com/feedback/ and asking them to bring back this feature.

  • Does anyone know how the podcasts app is supposed to work?

The podcasts app with iOS 7 is drively me absolutely and completely crazy.
1.I try to sync podcasts between my core iTunes library and two iDevices.
I sync a whole bunch of podcasts from my iTunes library. At some point, they randomly disappear. I come to the support communities were the general consensus is to remove iTunes from the equation. I do that. I resubscribe to all of my podcasts on my phone. I go through the tedium of downloading all the old episodes, clicking each episode one-by-one since there is no button to "download all". It works, sort of, but episodes don't sync across all devices. Finally, I decide I'd be content if it just worked on ONE device.
    2. I resubscribe to all my podcasts on my iphone only.
Everything works, sort of, for awhile. Then one day I make the mistake of connecting my phone to my computer. The sync process decides to remove some (but not all) of my podcasts. Even those that haven't been listened to are gone. They are still available through "download old episdoes".
But I don't WANT to download them again. I already have, three or four times.  Worse yet is when they're replaced with the stupid cloud symbol. Look, I want to listen to these AWAY from the cloud, away from the internet.
I'm just 100% baffled by what the intent of this app is.  I have "Subscription - off" and "Refresh podcast - manually" on.  I am about to re-tag all podcasts as simple songs simply to get away from the irritating podast app.
Can someone please answer this very, very simple question:
How do I download and retain podcasts on my iPhone without them a) disappearing randomly or b) disappearing after they've been listened to?

Several ways to get similar results.  Image > Adjustments > Posturize with low values similar to what you'd use n Cutout.  This is the most flexible way I can think of as you keep the image in RGB mode with layers intact.  A more radical approach would be to reduce bit depth using Indexed Colour.  You'll need to experiment with settings, try changing Forced to Primaries, and Matte to Foreground Color.  There's no going back from this route, although you can change the mode back to RGB to re-enable layers, adjustment layers etc.
A nice thing about the Filter gallery filters is that you can change the layer to a Smart object with all the control that gives you.
Now if only this forum could filter out bizarre content.

  • Two small but annoying 4.2.1 problems

I see some people are having really serious issues with WiFi and syncing and full-on device failure. The problems my iPod Touch is having are minor by comparison, but still annoying.
Problem 1 is the album art. I've never had any problems with the album art. But now there are some albums for which the art displays correctly when the iPod is on, but I'm listening in standby mode and hit the Home button, all I get is my wallpaper. The really weird thing is that this is happening ONLY to albums which I've tagged and added album art in iTunes SINCE THE 4.2.1 UPDATE. All the albums that were already on the iPod continue to display fine in both modes.
Problem 2 is videos tagged as TV Shows. They also always worked just fine, but since the 4.2.1 update not only can I not sort them by episode number, the iPod doesn't even seem to SEE the episode number - every video in the iPod is labeled "Episode 0". But all the info displays correctly in iTunes.
These problems aren't the end of the world, they're just annoying. But if anyone else is having these problems and knows how to correct them (or at least if they've been seen elsewhere and are being addressed by Apple) I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

    Hi there,
I've got a 3G 16GB and seem to have a similar problem. I've installed 4.2.1 and my GPS is not working. Triangulation is working, but I can't get a lock with the GPS. I've done some research on the net and it seems many are experiencing this. I've tried many suggested methods to fix it but nothing is working. If you find anything out please let me know! Is triangulation working for you?
    Thanks!

  • Podcasts app not refreshing new content?

Hi, my podcasts app is not refreshing new content for last 4 days, is anyone else facing the same issue?

    Hello there, ikgandhi.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great steps to review for issues with the Podcasts app for iOS:
Podcasts app for iOS: Managing subscriptions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6190
Default settings: From your Home screen, tap Settings and then Podcasts. These settings are shared by all of your podcast subscriptions. These are known as default podcast settings.
Refresh Every: You can choose how often your iOS device checks for new episodes to your subscriptions. It's set to check every six hours by default.
Limit Episodes: You can pick how many episodes you see for subscriptions.
Download Episodes: The latest episodes of your podcasts will download automatically if your iOS device is connected to Wi-Fi.
Delete Played Episodes: If this is turned on, episodes will delete 24 hours after you finish playing them.
Use Cellular Data: If your iOS device has a cellular connection, you can allow downloads to use cellular data when Wi-Fi isn't available. This is off by default. Downloads using cellular data are limited to 100MB per episode. If an episode is larger than that, it won't start downloading until you're connected to Wi-Fi.
Podcast-specific settings: The second place you'll find subscription settings is within the Podcasts app. Tap a podcast subscription under My Podcasts and pull down with one finger to reveal the settings buttons. These settings are unique to each subscription. If you don't change anything here, the podcast subscription will just use the default settings. If you do make changes to a specific subscription’s settings, they'll only apply to that podcast.
Play: This setting lets you change the order in which a subscription plays. If you're listening to a news style podcast, you may want to set this to play the new episodes first. If the series is more episodic, you may prefer to play oldest to newest.
Sort Order: This changes the sort order of episodes that appear for a podcast (not its playback order).
Subscribed: When this is on, new episodes of this podcast will be marked as unplayed as they become available.
Refresh Every: You can choose how often your iOS device checks for new episodes to your subscriptions. It's set to check every six hours by default.
Limit Episodes: You can pick how many episodes you see for subscriptions.
Download Episodes: The latest episodes of your podcasts will download automatically.
Delete Played Episodes: If this is on, episodes will be deleted 24 hours after you finish playing them unless you've marked them as Saved.
    Inactive subscriptions
If you do not play or access a subscription within 15 days, your subscription to that podcast will go inactive and you will no longer receive updates to it. As soon as you access the subscription again it will refresh.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • How do I keep my settings when importing into a clean iTunes?

I have multiple television shows saved to my HDD. I have gone through and added sorting information, dates, episode titles, episode numbers, dvd covers... everything that I would want to fill in under "Get Info".
Now I have installed iTunes on a new PC and this will be my Apple TV / iTunes server for the house. Everything runs just like it used to on the old PC except for one major issue.
I imported the TV shows into the new iTunes. It did not save all the settings. The artwork is there and some of the sorting information but it still imports them as Home Movies and is missing a few fields.
Does iTunes only write certain info to the actual file? Am I destined to have to re-sort everything every time I install and import to iTunes?

Still actually looking for an answer for this question.
Simply: How do I move the files to a new PC and have it keep everything I already spent HOURS putting into the "Get Info" screen in iTunes? Is there a backup command or something I am missing?
    Running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit / iTunes 11.1.5.5.

  • Need Third Party software recommendation - duplicates management and remova

I have read several dozen discussions addressing duplicate file/song removal from itunes, and many recommend third party software. While there is a 'show exact duplicates' command in itunes at Shift:File->Show exact duplicates, in my case all it did was show all of my songs, 8,440 instead of the actual 4,220 that are in my library. I'm not sure of the purpose of this command, perhaps it works for someone but not me.
Absent the ability to add a user defined column in itunes that would have the capability to perform an Excel-like function to number each row, allowing the sorting of odd/even numbers or some such scheme, I guess users with thousands of songs who have fallen into the duplication trap are required to purchase third party software to correct this, or just go ahead an begin whatever medical procedures purport the relief of carpal tunnel syndrome.
Does anyone have recommendations of software they have actually used, paid, share or free?
    Thanks.

Would that I be so lucky! I reinstalled my Vista OS and was adding back all of the programs and data, so all of the music had the same 'date added'. However, I have just this moment solved my own problem. Here is what worked for me:
    1. I downloaded freeware from the website LCIBrosSolutions.com which does indeed identify duplicates in the iTunes file and will erase them.
    2. However, now you are stuck with broken links (i.e. "!" songs) in your iTunes, and need to eliminate them. What I did was go into the View choices, and picked something that I would never use. In my case, I picked "Episode Number" and added it as a column. Then, I went to "select all" and highlighted all 8000+ song names. Right clicking gave me "Get Info" after the warning, and then I went to the video tab and entered the number 4. I un-highlighted, sorted on the Episode Number Column, and since the song names with no real content would not accept the number 4, they were at the bottom, and were all duplicates. I deleted them.
The way to verify that you do indeed have broken links is to sort by song name, and see that every other one does have an ! by it.
