  • Rearrange Gallery albums in iPhoto?

So, I've been an  iPhoto user for years, and I've had more questions and hair pulls in one day of working with iPhoto'11 and my new Lion Mac than all those years.
This question: I've have many MobileMe/Gallery photo albums, and theytransfered to my new mac fine. I miss having the Web albums listed in the sidebar, but like the grid icon view fine.  HOW do rearrange the albums?  In the old version you moved them up and down the sidebar and the cahnged order in the grid. But I can't move the stack icons like you'd think it would work?
Alos, it used to be easy to add single photos to a WEb Gallery Album after its creation, by draggin to the album icon. But if I click the photo I want to drag, the list of albums goes away?  Do I have to click the "add to" button now?
    Thanks for any help!

Okay, I have a partial answer by digging deep into an archived post...I can reorder using the Browser interface for MobileMe.  That's fine and dandy, but I use iPhoto software for my photo management and don't want to create a disordered album in iPhoto and then have to go on the web to cahnge it. Anybody have a solution?  Seems like an odd new  software "feature"

  • Sorting of Albums within IPHOTO

In Ilife 8, within IPHOTO, you can sort the albums listed under IWEB by right clicking on an album and then clicking on "sort albums". But within IPHOTO under albums, although the option to sort albums appears when you right click on an album, nothing happens when you do so. I know that I can drag and drop the albums to sort them, but I have over 200 albums and it is pain to drag and drop. Is there a way sort the albums automatically? Also, is there a way to sort the albums within ITV as well. Especially since every time that there is an update to ITV it wipes out the previous sorting and you have to start all over. If there is not current fix to auto-sorting the albums in IPHOTO, does anyone have a clue as to when it might be coming down the pike, especially since it can be done in IWEB.
    Thanks

    lekos:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Are you referring to Events in the Events or Photos window? In the Events window you can sort the Events by title or date but in the Photos window Events can only be sorted by Date, either ascending or descending by using the View->Sort menu options.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How can I keep my albums in iPhoto arranged in the order of my preference - alphabetically? Once arranged, iPhoto periodically rearranges them.

How can I keep Albums in iPhoto in the order in which I arrange them? iPhoto periodically rearranges them in seemingly random order.

Have iPhoto '11. Several times I have arrangged the Albums in alphabetical order. Perhaps "periodically rearrange" isn't the correct terminology, but if not the next time I open iPhoto then the 2nd or 3rd or 4th or..., the albums are in a different order, non-alphabetical. This was not a problem in the last iPhoto version.
Don't understand your question of "what goes on..."

  • Sort Order Changes Unexpectedly in iPhoto Gallery

I frequently add new images to some of my iPhoto galleries, then publish to MobileMe. When I rearrange the images in a particular gallery, the sort order sometimes changes spontaneously. Once this occurs, I have to manually restore everything to its proper place. Needless to say, this is very irritating. Does anyone know why this happens and how to fix it?
    Thanks!

    Hello Alan,
If I understand you correctly the images will spontaneously change their order both online at me.com and in the MobileMe WebGallery within iPhoto. You may have a broken Album within iPhoto.
Try making a new MobileMe Gallery and add 50 pictures (make a few of them in an order that is distinct so you can tell if/when they move). Publish the Gallery and check the order. If its ok, add another few pictures and then check again.
Ultimately if the issue does not happen with the new album then you may want to delete the other album and re-create it (you could try rebuilding your iPhoto Library as well. See the link below).
If the issue happens with the new album as well follow http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2638 to rebuild your Library. I would try using the "Rebuild iPhoto Library database..." option.
Also if you are not already I would suggest making regular backups of your computer. With Time Machine you could restore back to before this re-arranging occurs should it happen again http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1553.
    Hope that helps.

  • Organizing Albums in iPhoto on the iPad/iPhone

I have an iPad Air and an iPhone 5, and prefer to have my photos arranged by Albums, Not "events"  But in iPhoto on these, when I look at the album view it arranges the albums alphabetically, whereas I want to  have them arranged by topic - the topic organization I choose.
I edit and create the albums in iPhoto on my Mac, and have them organized the way I want there.  Why doesn't it keep that arrangement of the albums?  I can't find out any way to rearrange them the way I want them.
Why can't we organize things the way we want?
By the way, it is much easier to edit and organize o nthe mac, with its bigger screen and extra screens.
Also, is there a way to have Photos, or iPhoto (on the iPad & iPhone) access the keywords and titles I have given them in iPhoto on the Mac?
    Thanks

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
iPhoto 8 (09) and earlier- run the options indicated
iPhoto 9 (11) and later- run  Option #4 to rebuild the database
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager (iPhoto 8 or earlier or IPhoto 11 and later) and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the
File ➙ Rebuild Library (iPhoto 8 or earlier)
    or
Library ➙ Rebuild Library (iPhoto 9 or later)
menu option to rebuild the library.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • I created an album in iPhoto and every time I click on slideshow it plays the pictures backwards from the order in the album. How do I change that?

I created an album in iPhoto and every time I click on slideshow it plays the pictures backwards from the order in the album. How do I change that?

When running a slideshow from an album it will not run properly if the photos are sorted manually.  Sort them by any of the other options, title, date, rating, etc. and it will play correctly.
Send a report of the problem to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.
If you must sort them manually create the slideshow in the slideshow mode in iPhoto, not from an album.

  • Organise photos within Album in iPhoto on iPad

Yesterday I purchased the iPhoto app for my iPad, this is due to someone recommending it to me as an easy option of presenting artwork as a portfolio. I have a batch of JPEGs in an album that I want to display in a certain order, so I named them for example 'iPad app_p01' 'iPad app_p02' and so on. But when I synced the album into iPhoto on the iPad the photos are in a random order and the only option I have is to view them by newest or oldest, no option for by name.
Please can someone help me, this seems like a really obvious option to include in a photo app.
Any help would be much appreciated.

The iPad only sorts by date, and the date is the "date modified", so if you change the version name, you are modifying the date.
I have not tried it myself, but this post looks promising:   Re: How do I sort events in iPhoto for iOS?

  • Sub albums in iPhoto?

How to create sub albums in iPhoto?

I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums extensively. I title the pics broadly.
    I keyword on a
    Who
    What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 50k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a  typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
    File -> New Smart Album
    set it to 'All"
    title contains Seattle
    keyword is mountain
    keyword is snow
    rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
    New Smart Album
    Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
    Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John  to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.

  • How do I sort and rearrange photos like power point charts?

I am trying to create a slideshow in iphoto.  I am in faces view. How do I sort and rearrange photos like power point charts?

You are asking how to use Aperture, unfortunately a question that is a bit overly broad. Aperture will certainly allow you to do exactly what you ask, but I suggest buying a book/CD/tutorial and working all the lessons to learn the process.
What you want is a tutorial, not a manual. One acceptable tutorial is:
Apple Pro Training Series: Aperture 3  by Dion Scoppettuolo (Apr 23, 2010)
One mandatory thing to do that many tutorials fail to note is:
Back up original image files on and off site before using Aperature or any other images management application.

  • I have elements 11 and see no way to rearrange album images?

I cannot figure out how to rearrange my photos within an album (no numbers to grab and drag in the upper left corner).  No drop down menus with any kind of option?  What am I missing?
    Thank you,
    Dwight Donnelly

Hi,  (in reference to my elements 11 photo sorting problem within albums)
I have tried to do what you have suggested but without any luck.  I can get to "edit" by doing a right click on a particular album and can move photos around within the small 2 photo wide panel on the right but that proved quite laborious.  The album pictures showing in the main panel on the left have no numbers in the left hand upper corner and the images cannot be moved.
I have Elements 10 on an old PC and went back to it to see if I would have a similar problem.  I did not.  I was able to get the album photos numbered and then able to drag and drop to reorder them.  I wonder if I were to uninstall and then reinstall my Elements 11 if that might solve the problem?
I thank you for your assistance!

  • Sorting error of Albums

    Hi,
    Story:
A few months ago I upgraded from iPhoto 6 to 8, no problems there. (Please don't ask me how I transfered the library because I don't remember). From the beginning I have had an issue with the sorting of my albums/events in one of the two views offered by iPhoto.
    Problem:
There are two views, "Events" and "Photos". Events works just fine, where the sorting is set "By Title" and works just fine. However, in "Photos" view, I have turned on "Event Titles" so it resembles the old film-roll view from iPhoto 6. Even though I have set the sorting "By Title", the albums are all over the place (and the time frame of the photos within the albums might be a problem???), but I'm not sure as it doesn't affect the sorting in "Events" view.
If anyone knows how I can sort this out, that would be great. As I usually use the "Photos" view to sort out new photos that I import and the "Events" view isin't very convenient for that.
    Cheers!

In the Photo's window with Event names displayed the Events are sortable only by Date either ascending or descending. The date of the even will be determined by the oldest dated file in the event is the sort is ascending and by the newest dated file if the sort is descending.
All of the other sort options work only on the photos within the events.
