Sorting out Albums

I understand Itunes pretty well, and i was sorting out all of my Beatles Albums, for instance adding artwork to all the albums and for some reason half of the songs from my album 1 where in different places when i clicked the show items in a list (i can show u a screen shot). so i decided that i wanted all 27 tracks in one album not two separate ones, i tried to change it but i just got this,

1, you can't at the moment, though with iOS 5 in the Autumn, from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :

2, by removing it from you synced from and re-syncing. Only photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad (either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view)
3, the location of the photos that you synced to the iPad should be listed on the iPad's Photos tab when connected to your computer's iTunes.
4, you can copy the photos from your iPad to your computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 . You should also be able to delete them from the iPad as part of the transfer process to your computer, and it's then your choice whether to add them to your sync photo list so as to copy them back to the iPad. Copying them to your computer would allow you to organise them into folders and therefore be able to sync them back into separate albums.
5, I don't use Dropbox either. There are some third-party browser apps in the iTunes App Store that allow you to download pages so that you can view them when offline e.g. Atomic Web (the whole page is saved within Atomic Web, it doesn't place a photo into the Photos app)
6, deleting content should help. If you remove an app from your iPad then you also remove the content that it's got on the iPad - so if you then decide to reinstall it back onto the iPad then you will need to manually add back any content that you want in it. None of the Apple built-in apps (including Photos) can be removed from the iPad

How can I re-sort my albums both chronologically and in track order?

Hi all,
All of a sudden, the correct album track order on my iPod Classic has gone haywire!
I have many, many playlists, containing albums by all my favourite bands, arranged in chronological order. This means that I can start playing the Beatles (for instance) with "Please Please Me", and work my way through to "Let It Be:Naked", playing each album in its turn, with the track listing of each album in their original order.
Of course, I have to tell iTunes to sort "Album by Artist/Year" to achieve this end, and up until just recently, things have been fine. Most of my 250+ artist-dedicated playlists are sorted this way.
Now, all of a sudden, I find that the track order within these albums in iTunes are appearing in a completely random order. The only way I can get the correct track sequence back again is to re-sort the list by "Album" which re-arranges the albums alphabetically, but that does not list them chronologically....
I have tried re-sorting the chronologically dated and named albums by clicking the column header, and when it comes up with sorted by "Album by Artist / Year" (which is where it ONCE was all automatically sorted into correct sequence of track numbers) now, it comes up with all the album tracks in random order, within each album.. It sorts the albums into the correct chronological order, but the tracks within these albums are all messed up.
As I said earlier, if I choose to sort each playlist simply "By Album", then all the tracks on each album are in the correct order, so I KNOW that the correct ID Tag info is still there..
Until now, I have been able to pride myself on (usually) being able to manage the sometimes quirky moods of iTunes, which I have been using for over a decade - but I have never had this problem before.
Please also note that all my 23,000+ tracks have album dates, track numbers, artists, groupings, genres, play counts, and most also have cover images.
This week, I have downloaded and re-installed iTunes 10.6.3.25, but still no change.
Does anyone have any thoughts as to what I can do to get things back the way they were again?

I just tried using the column browser as you suggested, but it remains the same.
I can either have the albums by any one artist sorted alphabetically - with the tracks in the correct sequence....
Or I can have the albums sorted by year of release - with the tracks in random order....
But not both!
The most curious thing is that all playlists are not affected. Probably three or four out of the 250+ are listed the way I want them all to be.
It's driving me bloody crazy!

How come we can no longer sort by album, only "Album Artist"?

Total BS. If you're listening to a soundtrack album with a ton of artist, you have to know the name of the first artist listed to find it in your library. They used to just have an "Album" sort field, now it is "Album Artist" and "Album by Artist", riddle me the difference because I can't just sort by album. Trying to find out info here is an insult too. If the iPod wasn't so great, I'd totally never come back to Apple. I'm in the market for a new phone and you just made an Android customer.

Nevermind, Apple gave me a link to a similar problem after creating this. Marked the album as a compiliaiton for anyone interested.
Not sure how to delete this so I'll just leave it up.

Alphabetical sorting in album view broken in 3.4.0

Upon updating to Spotify 3.4.0, I noticed that alphabetical sorting of albums, by artist or title, no longer works correctly. Neither killing/restarting the app nor deleting/reinstalling it has any effect. This is on iOS 8.3. This is when sorting by artist. Boris, Brian Eno, Burial, Busta Rhymes, then Beyonce, back to Burial, Beyonce, then Beastie Boys. It's a total mess. Sorting by album title is in slightly better shape, but articles really screw it up. It takes everything that starts with "The" and sticks in in between the S's and T's. Well, almost everything: Here we've got a few stragglers stuck between T and U. None of this makes any sense and it's a real pain. Apple Music comes out tomorrow, and I'm surprised that Spotify thought it was a good idea to roll out an update with a major issue like this right before a big competitor's launch.

That's a big shame if this change was intended. To have your Albums listed in a casual order and not Alphabetically seems a huge step back for the iOS version and all of its users. It makes that menu redundant in all honesty, especially if you have over 100 albums. Why change or take away a very important part of the experience that a lot of users want?
For instance, this morning I regrettably started my 3 month trial with Apple Music to see how this experience is. As much as I didn't want to, I felt like I should give it a try, since the main part of my experience with Spotify has changed/gone.
They list the Albums exactly like Spotify used to (before the last update). So in Artist Alphabetical order, with the Albums underneath in alphabetical order too. This means I can scroll through all of "My Music" in alphabetical order without realising some artists are at the top or bottom and mixed in with others.
For me, it makes no sense at all for Spotify to change this. It now looks a mess and the "Album" section to me, and others, is now useless. I now have to filter "Artists" and select that, to then select an album I want. This is not intuitive at all. As I said, it's a step backwards.
I hope the team look at this seriously, because it could possibly put users off the experience. I for one have defended the Spotify team on forums such as Reddit, who mostly put the team down for the huge problems on the desktop version recently, saying its a step backwards for most features. I now seem a bit bewildered why the team are also doing this for the iOS version.
I think you get my point anyway. To change something so important without explanation is madness. Your team need a lot more communication with it's users, or you could be losing quite a few of them to an alternative streaming service.

Sorting of Albums within IPHOTO

In Ilife 8, within IPHOTO, you can sort the albums listed under IWEB by right clicking on an album and then clicking on "sort albums". But within IPHOTO under albums, although the option to sort albums appears when you right click on an album, nothing happens when you do so. I know that I can drag and drop the albums to sort them, but I have over 200 albums and it is pain to drag and drop. Is there a way sort the albums automatically? Also, is there a way to sort the albums within ITV as well. Especially since every time that there is an update to ITV it wipes out the previous sorting and you have to start all over. If there is not current fix to auto-sorting the albums in IPHOTO, does anyone have a clue as to when it might be coming down the pike, especially since it can be done in IWEB.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Are you referring to Events in the Events or Photos window? In the Events window you can sort the Events by title or date but in the Photos window Events can only be sorted by Date, either ascending or descending by using the View->Sort menu options.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Sorting out artists in library

2 problems!!
1) I like keeping my compilations tidy in my library, and when i group an album as a compilation, with my preferences "group compilations when browsing" ticked, and enter the different artists in the artist field, the compilation still has all the songs scattered under the artist name and not under the album name.
How do I get to keep the compilation together?
2) To solve the first problem, I've just left the artist field blank, but put "various artists" in the album artist field... which generally works as it actually keeps my compilation album together after the A-Z artists. But with random songs, it keeps adding automatically "various artists" to the artist field when i only add it to the album artist field, so some songs are under V while others are with the compilations!!
How do I stop it from automatically adding "various artists" to the artist field?!

What column are you sorting your library on?
Assuming you have "Group compilations when browsing" checked, sorting on either the "Album by Artist" or "Album by Year" column will keep all of your compilations sorted out at the end of your library, arranged either by Album (Album by Artist) or Year of the first track (Album by Year). The exception is albums with a single Album Artist, which will appear in your Library under that Album Artist. Most compilations should have nothing in the Album Artist field, since there is no single Album Artist, but of course the individual tracks can have their individual Artist fields filled out.
Example: If you have a "Best of the 80s" CD with Artist fields containing "Duran Duran", "Yello", and so on, but nothing in Album Artist, it'll appear at the end of your library, either with the B's (if you're using the Album by Artist column) or somewhere in the 1980s (if you're using Album by Year and have the Date field filled out). If you then enter "Various Artists" into the Album Artist field of the whole album, it'll appear in your regular library under V, since iTunes will think it's really by a single band called Various Artists.
Example 2: If you have an album of songs from the Muppet Show, with Artist fields containing Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy and so on, you may want to put "The Muppets" into the Album Artist field for the whole album. In that case, it'll appear in your main library under M.

Sorting by Album Title _only_

I just upgraded to iTunes 10.0.0.68. I am trying to arrange my library by album title only; not by artist or album artist. iTunes doesn't seem to like my organization plans, because on some albums it subdivides the album by artist. These albums are generally soundtracks. Some of them are organized the way I want, and others are not.
Here's what I've tried in vain so far:
1. Copy-and-paste the same album name to all tracks.
2. For a couple tracks, I went to "get info," "Sorting" and deleted all the info on this tab except for the album title.
3. In the main library pane, I right clicked on "Album" and selected "Sort ... Album by Title."
None of these three things have worked. I googled my problem and all I found were suggestions on how to sort by album artist.
So, can any of you kind people help me out?

Sort after Album Arist, then track #

Hello there Itunes lovers,
does anyone know how to sort after "album artist", without any influences from "artist"?
I've, for instance, an album with various artist, hence the "album artist" is labeled VA, and I still want it to sort after the cd's track number, instead of a secondary sort by "artist". This leads to great mess in the library, with track # in the wrong order.

I'm a little confused by what you're asking. You said, "It would be great if the Album Artist represented the artist of the album, while Artist specified the artists in that specific song." That's exactly how it should work — if you have a Johnny Cash album with different artists on the individual tracks (like "Johnny Cash with Tom Petty"), then entering "Johnny Cash" in the Album Artist slot for the entire album will tag the album as a Johnny Cash album, and alphabetize the album accordingly when you sort by "Album by Year" or "Album by Artist". If you sort on the Artist column, the individual track artists will be broken out into their individual Artist locations.
Text entered in the search box will match both Artist and Album Artist — in the example I gave, searching for "Johnny Cash" will return the entire album, while searching for "Tom Petty" will return only the one track.
In your example, what are the different fields? The Artist is "US3", the track Name is "Cantaloop", the Album is "Flip Fantasia", and the Album Artist is "Jazz Funk Jazz Funk Jazz Funk"? If so, sorting on the Artist column will sort the track with the U's, sorting Album by Artist will sort the album with the J's, and entering either "US3" or "Jazz Funk" into the search box will return the track in the list of results.

Sorting out "thumbnails without photo" ?

Hi, when I click on a thumbnail to open a photo I, on some thumbnails, get a message saying that the file can not be found. Annoying! Is there a way to sort out these "thumbnails without photo" /Kjell

If you write your tags to file(I think in 11 it has changed to metadata, it is under file) all your tags will be placed within each photo, this way you don't lose your organization. At this point you have a few solutions, all a lot of work.
You can have PSE look for duplicates and start churning through the results. I haven't been impressed by this approach, not very robust.
If you find an outside pgm just have it churn through your pictures. I have never used these but if there is a good one I would like to know.
Since you have written your tags to file you can reload all your pictures into a new catalog. I think you will lose your Albums, stacks and version sets, but that may be a small price to pay to get yourself out of the duplicate problem. This approach gives you the most control and I feel is not as overwhelming if you just do a folder at a time.
Good luck in this project.
I would suggest you do a backup frrequently, minimally once a week.
Maybe someone will come up with a better solution.

How to sort out different issues on Satellite A505-S6973

Can anyone tell me, if the warranty period on my laptop has not passed, can i return my laptop to toshiba and have all my issues sorted out. Would there be a cost to do whatever repairs software related needs be done and how i am supposed to go about it because my laptop is beginning to have all sorts of little errors, i noticed that my harddrive has 156gb used although i have about 60 gigs in use.
A couple multimedia buttons aren't working but i touch them, my touchpad doesn't turn off with the hard button unless i turn it off using the FN key and my processor runs low but when i use a program i see it's reaching between 85 to 100% utilization.
I really like this laptop, but the issues i'm having i highly doubt it should operate this way.

Software issues are not covered by warranty!
This means that you will have to pay for everything if the ASP technician would not find any problems!
This is why you should recover the notebook in order to check if its only a software related issue.

This is not a bug or hardware problem. You will notice this CPU behavior because the CPU supports an feature which helps to save the power and reduce the heat dissipation

If the accounts are on the same computer, you should not have to use a different e-mail address. If your son's account is not an Administrator account, this may be the issue. Are you able to launch VirusBarrier from your son's account from Applications>Intego?

Yes I am able to do that and the issue that we were having seems to have settled down after the computer crashed and I restarted it by resetting PRAM and repairing the disk. Can you help me understand what to do about the issues that the console in utilities is logging frequently? both before and since the crash yesterday; (see below)
First issue; An instance 0x10062c110 of class CBX5KeyboardObservationController was deallocated while key value observers were still registered with it. Observation info was leaked, and may even become mistakenly attacked to some other object. set a breakpoint on NSKVODeallocateBreak to stop here in the debugger. Here's my latest list of complaints to Intego regarding Family Protector. I thought it should be shared:
I have been using Family Barrier for a couple of years now, and may I say, it has so many problems that as soon as I can find a better alternative, I'm gone. Until that day, however, I expect some solutions.
Issue #1: The application is 100% unreliable. The chances of it doing its job on any given day are seriously 50/50. Or worse. This alone renders the program useless. But that's not all.
Issue #2: It's unbelievably easy to override. Are you seriously unaware that all one has to do is change the date on the computer to one before Family Barrier was installed, it will 100% not do its job. Awesome. This is straight out of Hacking 101, and any program should be able to defend against it. Otherwise, any demo I try download can be made to work forever. While some are, most are not. Get it together, People.
Of course, making time changes impossible can be done from my end by the keeping admin password unknown to the protected user, but what if the protected user needs admin access? That happens to be my case. Nonetheless, I was willing to block admin access to fix the problem until you could tell me that YOU'VE done your job and taken care of it (you will tell me that, right?). But then I was left with Issue #1 (remember? the one where it only works 50% of the time at best?), so what's the point?
I thought I'd try reinstalling it again, just for fun. I've done this before and it's worked TEMPORARILY (tell me the truth, would you pay for an application that constantly had to be re-installed so that it would work for a while? the truth, now). Why am I not surprised that now even that simple process is f'ing up. I punch in my name and serial and it won't accept it. Is there no end to the awesomeness? Somehow, I think that there is not.
It's especially frustrating that there is no support number for me to call, forcing me to have to go through THIS process, which makes your job so much easier and is so much less helpful for your customers) just to get any answers... eventually.

Turned "Sort by Album Artist" off on iPod Touch 5th Gen so individual artists on compilation albums will show up separately under "Artists" with no succuss. This worked perfectly on my Ipod Touch 4th Gen. Any Advice?

I have a 5th Gen iPod Touch. It is running the latest iOS, and iTunes has the latest update. I have many compilation albums that I imported from CD. I want the individual artists and their associated song(s) to show up under "Artists." I have turned off "Sort by Album Artist" in Settings. This worked perfectly on my 4th Gen Touch. Each artist from a compilation would show up under "Artists" with the correct song(s) showing, while still showing the whole compilation under "Albums." Now, on my 5th Gen Touch, when I try to look at an artist from a compilation under "Artists," I get one of the following: the correct artist and song, an incorrect artist and song, or an incorrect artist with the entire compilation album showing up. Is this a bug in the new iOS 7, or am I doing something wrong? Anyone else with this problem? Any advice?

I have the same problem and I have been really trying hard to find a solution. No success.
My main problem is this: For example: Top Gun soundtrack - I look at Kenny Loggins under artists and I see his albums and songs, plus the 2 songs from top gun. Then when I look at Miami Sound Machine (also on top gun cd) under artist, I see correct albums from Miami sound machine, but under the top gun soundtrack, it shows the 2 kenny loggins songs instead. then if I look at another artist from top gun cd, it continues to show the kenny loggins songs. It doesn't matter which songs i look at, but the first one i start with will always show up on the others. Funny thing is, if I click on the song, the correct song plays, it just says it is the kenny loggins song!!! ha ha. Been dealing with this for over a year now. Pretty aggravating. Happens whether I have compilations checked or unchecked on settings. I have over 50 compilation albums and some are checked, some aren't...they all behave this way.
On Mac, itunes (v 12) it all shows up correctly and works fine. I have become an expert on ID tags and am very thorough with my tagging. HAND TAGGING, not some program that does it for you...they are never correct. I match all my tag info with the info in the iTunes store for each album so it is sure to match. Has taken a long, long, long time.
Love iTunes match, but this one issue is a real pain. Anyone with any ideas, I'd love to hear them! Thanks!
