Sorting photo's under IOS5

Today i found out to my surprise that my iPad under IOS5 sorts the photos in a different order. All my pictures are now in a quasi random unusable order (and it does not look like filename). Is there a easy way to get the old sort by date order back? I work with multiple camera's gthat produce pictures with different names and i sync them from a Windows PC.

If you want to sort manually, use albums. Albums can be arranged freely. Events only allow basic sorting.

  • Icons disappearing in Photo app under iOS5

iOS5 Photo app has major bug on iPad
When you select folder and go into it, it is Ok. However when you leave the folder the icon of the folder and the name of the folder completely disappear as if its not there.
The only way to get the folder back is to quit the App and then go back into it and all the folders are there.
These folders worked total correctly on all previous iOS versions and still do with iOS5 on an iPhone.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Tried restarting, unfortunately this does not work for me. Icons still disappear when folders opened and then closed. Noticed this does the affect all icon folders but most. Icons are the first picture in each separate folder not anything I have created. Any other ideas?

  • Sort photos on ipad

Is there REALLY no way to sort photos on the current iPads (iOS 8.1)? It used to sort by file name and now it seems to do it by metadata dates... I want my images in a particular order for presentation and do not want to have to go through iPhoto...

I have a similar problem with my ipad4. I purchased this to be able to show photos in the order I want. I organise in albums, the photos
being in file name order within the album, all on my PC. Everything is ok UNTIL you edit a photo, which I do on my PC. It may be saved with the same filename but when synced via itunes the photo is placed at the end of the album. This makes the  slideshow feature redundant as I cannot dictate the order.
When the photos app is first opened the scrolling of albums is not smooth.
If I view in photos view then the edited photos are under a different date so making this view impossible to navigate, as the edited photos
are no longer shown at the date they were originally taken. This means that the photo view of moments etc is not fit for purpose.
Whichever way I try to view my photos I apparently have no control, contrary to the much heralded advertising for Ios8.
It seems I purchased a very expensive device that originally worked well, but now is only fit for the rubbish bin.

  • Sort Photos by date

After many tragic disk crashes and other issues I am left with 3600 photos in one folder. I want to import these into a new iPhoto 08 library with the photos sorted by date created. When I import the folder is shows as a single event with all the pictures under that date. How do I have iPhoto sort photos with the same creation dates into separate events based on creation dates upon import?

Have you selected the event and used the autosplit event command?

  • Sorting photos on iPhoto by device

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help with sorting photos on iPhoto on a MacBook Air. I have synced photos from two separate iPhone 5 devices that were under the same iCloud account and I would like to sort them by the devices. I cannot exactly remember which photos are from which device and I cannot used the Smart Album method as they are both iPhone 5 cameras
I do not mind how tedious it is as long as it gets the job done! Thank you very much

No - you can not do that in iPhoto (or probably in any software) - in iPhoto smart albums can collect photos by camera type but not by specific device - on by camera type

  • Manual Sort Photos

I can sort my Events manually. Now I would like to sort my photos manually within the Events. Under View - Sort Photos ... Manually is dimmed as is "Reset Manual Sort." Is it possible to sort photos manually?

Thanks for the comments, but that doesn't really solve the problem. Remember, I'm trying to group photos so I can select the ones I want to remove from my hard drive. If I did that in an album, I would only be removing the photos from the album, not from the library and hard drive altogether.
The workaround I found so far is a bit painful:
    - create an album from the event in question
    - sort the photos to group them so it's easy to pick the ones I want to delete
    - rate the photos I want to remove with a specific rating, different than the ones I want to keep
    - go back to the event
    - find the photos based on rating
    - move them to trash
    - remove the album (or keep it if I'm going to make an album anyways)
Anybody has a simpler recipe ?
Also I like the "Events" view very much, where I can skim over large icons that represent each event to see pictures. Is there a similar view for Albums somewhere ?
PS: I did send feedback already, thanks for the suggestion.

  • HT204655 Can you use one Photos library under different accounts?

I, like many, have recently migrated from iPhoto to the new Photos App. I'm having one significant issue that is bothering me, using a single Photos library under two different accounts on my Mac. In iPhoto, I could easily point both accounts at one library. The only minor issue with doing this was that both accounts couldn't have it open at the same time. However, everything else worked great, including setting the screensaver on both accounts to be the iPhoto library.
Now that I use Photos, everything works fine on one account, but if I try and open the same Photos library on a different account, it gives a generic error and fails. What am I doing wrong? Is this not possible? That's a pretty obnoxious issue if so.

It should be fine... it certainly works with iTunes for Windows. You just need to run the same version of iTunes on each machine you want to connect to.

  • In iPhoto if I select View, then Sort Photos by title, how do I stop it reverting to sorting by date when I close iPhoto and re-open it later?

In iPhoto if I select View, then Sort Photos by title, how do I stop it reverting to sorting by date when I close iPhoto and re-open it later?

In what mode, Events, Photos or in an Album, are you when you select View ➙ Sort ➙ By Title?
As a first fix attempt try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Can I over-ride the default setting in Organizer to allow sorting photos by filename ?

I am converting slides from the 1970's and 80's to digital files and using PSE 8 to Organize them but it is important to me that they stay in the order of the file name I give them and NOT "Date: newest first or last" because it would seem that PSE, in the absence of metafile information, uses the date and time I uploaded the file to the Organizer as the "Date:".  ACDSee has a much more sensible arrangement in giving me full control of how my photos are sorted.  I am being driven to using ACDSee as the organizer and PSE as the photo editor, a not very convenient arrangement.  So my question is, "Can I over-ride the default setting in Organizer to allow sorting photos by filename ?"

The type of file system that you're trying to set up, is actually done better by creating you own file heirarchy in Windows, and then viewing by import batch.  For example; you might create a top level folder "My Slide Scans", then perhaps, "My son John". So, the scans of john all go in the same folder, you import the folder in one batch, and you're where you want to be.
That said, PSE will fight you at every turn to do this, since with the scanner hooked up with PSE, PSE is going to want to store your photos in "scanned photos" and import them as you scan them.
I woud suggest this.  After the scan and import, use PSE to move the photos to their final destination folder, say " Hawaii 1994", and create a tag of the same name". Then when you're done scanning photos of this event, use the tag to view all the scans at once. Then, delete all the photos from the organizer. (Yeah, sounds radical I know). Take heart! All you've gotta do then is to reimport the whole folder. All the same name photos will be in one import batch. And with all the photos of any given topic in one folder, you'll be able to also use Windows Explorer in any number of modes to view the photos outside PSE.
Keep in mind you can rename batchs of photos by selecting them, or by import batch or even tag, then "Ctrl. > Shift > N" will bring up the name change dialog box.
This technique is quite contensious, but, it makes a whole lot more sense than storing all your photos in the "My Photos" folder on the "C:/" drive where any viral or malware hiccup might cause the necessity of a reformat, which could cause the loss of years of work.
If a name search is a priority, that would be "Ctrl ."Shift" > "K" then type in whatever your heart desires.
Caution: Before attempting a delete/ reimport manuver, Alway, always, write the tag and file info to the photo. "File" >"Write Tag and Properties Info to File".
I always am quite adamantine about suggesting that you do NOT use the same physical HDD that contains Windows to store your photos, that's just asking for trouble. HDDs are quite cheap nowadays, and they're worth every penny in piece of mind. Plus to use a storage ("Volume") drive, you have to create your own file heirarchy anyway, so that leads right back to the beginning of this discussion.

  • What is the easiest way to sort photos within an album.  I have photos from a trip but they are all mixed up.  Photos from one part of the trip are showing up in other parts.  Please help.

I have a MacBook Pro laptop and am trying to use iPhoto.  I uploaded pictures but they uploaded out of order.  Photos taken from different locations on my trip are all mixed up and I would like to sort them in chronological order.  Things I have tried have been time consuming and often take several attempts before the moved photo "takes" to its new location within the album.  If anyone can provide step by step instructions for this senior, it would be very much appreciated.  Thank you.

    Self explanatory.
You could try creating an iPod version of the films.
Use CTRL and B to display the Menu bar shown above. Alternatively, use the ALT key, followed by the F key, the W key and finally the I (eye) key - that's (menu)/File/Create New Version/Create iPod or iPhone version.

  • HT4236 Hello, does anyone have any advice on how to sort photos in an albumn on an Iphone by date of photo? I've ordered them all in my Pictures but then when I sync them across through Itunes, they all end up in a jumble on my phone. Thanks!

Hello, does anyone have any advice on how to sort photos in an albumn on an Iphone by date of photo? I've ordered them all in my Pictures but then when I sync them across through Itunes, they all end up in a jumble on my phone. Thanks!

When viewing an album on the iPhone you can tap "Photos" at the bottom and that will show all photos by date. Unfortunately though it is all photos, not just the album you are currently viewing.
What I have done is the following. On the computer I have a main folder (e.g. iPhone photos) and then make sub-folders within that. Placing photos that will be synched to the iPhone into various subfolders gives quite a bit of organizational capablility. In iTunes when you select the main folder to sync, the sub-folders will show on the iPhone as separate albums. Beyond that, in one case where I really wanted a specific sort within an album I renamed the photos on the computer (something like A-picxxx, B-picxxx) so they sorted on the computer alphabetically in the order I want on the phone. That sort order was maintained after the sync.
Note that each time you sync using iTunes, the non-Camera Roll pictures on the phone will be set to match the current iTunes settings/photos -- so you can experiment.

  • Duplicate files appearing in Windows Photo Gallery under Vista Home Basic.

I am suffering a bout of duplications in my Windows Photo Gallery under Vista. I am getting duplicates, triplicates and quadruple versions of the original file.
Despite turning off all Autoplay media types to 'No Action', I get random duplicates when I try to enter update pictures from camera or memory chip through a USB port. There is no 'Enter Updates Only' option, and Microsoft says that this is unnecessary as
duplication is prevented. The duplicates however appear with 'copy' in the file name after the image numbering system. My preference is to view the memory contents via 'Computer' - select and open the port, and view, then copy and paste into Photo
Gallery.  Photo Gallery kicks in to view the chip correctly, but often/always (?) promptly uploads uncommanded. It did not used to do this, only in the last year or two.
What do I do, it is driving me crazy ?

    Hi,
As I know, for Duplicate issue, it might be caused by a corrupted database, please try to rebuild it as a test.
    Close Windows Photo Gallery
First show hidden files.Navigate to C:\Users\Usename\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Photo GalleryRename “Pictures.pd” to “Pictures.pd.old” (without quotes) and reopen Windows Photo Gallery.

  • How can I sort photos by file name in Photos?

New Photos seems to be very limiting, even compared to iPhoto.  How can I sort photos by filename?  Many photos that worked in iPhoto, can't be viewed in Photos.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Titles don't use the filename any longer, but if you must have them you might be interested in Léonie's script here.

  • PE9 - sort photos by file name?

PE9 - how can I sort photos by file name so I can drag and drop into the timeline?

Date is all I want to sort by, so for me it is a better way than filename. Originally they were sorted by name on iOS devices (up to iOS 3.1.3), but Apple must have decided (possibly via feedback) that capture date was a better way. You can always try leaving feedback and maybe in the future there will be a choice : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
If you want to sort them in a different order then you can do so if you use a Mac and transfer the photos via iPhoto or Aperture. Otherwise you can either manipulate their capture dates prior to syncing so that they are in the order you want (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4221), or there are third-party apps in the iTunes App Store that apparently allow sorting e.g. Photo-Sort for iPad or Sort Shorts iPad Edition
