Sorting pictures in numerical order for slideshow using Iphoto 7.1.3

I have scanned hundreds of old slides and assigned titles with an ascending numerical code which I hoped Iphoto would then sort numerically in a slide show.
This is not happening!
When I sort by title (the numerical code) Iphoto seems to place them in some binary
sequence e.g. 1,10,100,101,102 etc. I want them 1,2,3,4,5,etc.
Help! What am I doing wrong? How can I get them in proper numerical sequence without manually moving them around on the screen?
When I view the files in their folder as a list they all show in proper numerical sequence. Why will Iphoto not sort them the same way?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. At Terence pointed out the alphanumerical listing in iPhoto requires a zero to be added before numbers 1 thru 9 (for less than 99 photos) in order for the numbers to be in the natural order. Renaming as Terence suggested, Photos->Batch Change->Title to Text with sequential numbers added will pad zeros accordingly so you'll get -01, -02, etc., or if more than 100 files, -001, -002, -020, etc.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

Here's my take on the same thing:
Short answer: the dpi is set when you decide what size you're printing at.
Long Answer: Dpi means nothing in the digital world of your computer. There are no "inches" to have "dots per..." Size is measured in pixels. That's the same on your camera. It doesn't take 10 x 8 or 6 x 4 shots. It takes shots measured in megapixels. For instance 4,000 x 3,000 is a 12 megapixel camera.
Using that example, that shot from that camera has 12 million pixels. So that's how many "Dots" there are. To decide the ratio of dots per inch, you now need to decide the "inches" part. And that's printing. Print at 10 x 8 and the dpi will be 4,000/10 or about 400 dpi. At 6 x 4 then it's 4,000/6 or 660 dpi. Work the other way: Print at 300 dpi and the resulting image will be about 13 inches on the longer side.
So, your photo as a fixed number of pixels. Changing the dimensions of the print will vary the dpi, changing the dpi will vary the dimensions of the print.

    Hi Stavros0203,
When restoring your entire system from a Time Machine backup, it is restored to the state it was when that backup was made. See this article for reference -

  • Photo order for slideshow

I have a directory of 300 photos, numbered 1-300, which are in the order I want them in...they are not in date order at all.   how can i preserve my order when pulling into the organizer in elements for slideshow creation?
a related topic...any batch renumbering utility in elements?

    Hi,
I'm not too clear on how you have numbered the photos. If you have just renamed each photo with the number then there could be a problem in ordering the photos in PSE. In PSE, the folder view displays the photos in alphabetic order not numeric order.
So, photos could appear in a different order:-
    Numeric order :   1, 2, 10, 20
    Alphabetic order : 1, 10, 2, 20
When renaming photos, to preserve the order for other viewers, it is best to use leading zeros to pad each number (e.g. 001, 020, 300).
To get them int PSE, just do Get Photos and Videos -> From Files and Folders and point to the folder containing the photos. Note that the getting of the photos does not take a copy of the photos, it just catalogs them.
Once they have been imported, switch to Folder Location in the Display options (top right) and select the folder where your photos are. If you have the naming right, the photos should appear in the correct order.
Now create an Album tag and apply it all the photos.
You can now switch to Thumbnail View in the Display options (my preferred view to work in) and if you select the album tag, the photos should be displayed in the correct order. In album view, you can drag the photos around into the order you want.
When you want to create you slideshow, just select all the photos in the album.
Personally, I don't bother renaming photos, I just import them into PSE and select the ones I want and allocate an album tag to them. In album view, I then move the photos around into the order I want and then create the slideshow.
For you last topic, why do you want to renumber the photos? There is the Export facility which enables you to copy the photos to an new folder and you can apply a sequence number.
Hope that the above was helpful

  • Trouble sorting in alpha-numeric order

Can someone please help me figure out why iPhoto doesn't know how to sort things alpha-numerically by title?
For example, I am importing photos from my hard drive. Numbers go 1-200 as they should. However when I get into iphoto (set to sort by title), iphoto decides to go 1, 10, 100, 2, 20, 200, 3, 30, etc. Its very annoying since they are no longer in the right order. 1 should be next to 2, not 10. Computers have been ordering things in number order for ages, why is iPhoto so confused?
Are there different settings that will import things properly. I know if I was using albums, I could make sure the album is set to sort "manually" prior to importing. Then they will be in their original order. I can't do that when just importing into iphoto/events as far as I know.
    Any suggestions?

iPhoto sorts jsut fine - soem human had mis-names the photos
"space" "space" 1 does not sort Alpha-Numerically to the same place a 001 - nor does 1 sort the same as 001
An Alpha Numeric sort considers both Alphabetic and Numeric characters and therefore if you want the sort to match your expectiations then you need to be sure the characters you are sorting on are correct - the conmputer can not read yoru mind and see that you do not really want an alpha-numeric sort after all

  • Numerical Order for Photos

    Hello,
I am trying to do one very simple thing.
Have the photos in the timeline appear in numberical order. After all, that is the order they were taken in, I want them in that order.
I can not find a way to do that other than by drag and drop which isn't an option. I have between 100-300 photos every time I start a new project and many projects to do per week.
Please tell me how to do this.
The general overview is : I have photos in Aperture and want to burn them in numerical order on to a dvd that can be played in a household dvd player.
I used to play with them in Photoshop, then import them to iPhoto, then share them with iDVD - that all worked well for me - but with trying to introduce Aperture and eliminate Photoshop everything has gone belly up.
I COULD play with them in Aperture and then import them into iPhoto - but when I do that - for some reason iPhoto renames the photos from say 1234 10x8 to 1234 (1) - which is hard for me to explain to my client. . .
I would be more than grateful for any guiding hands about now - am losing whole days on this.
    Powerbook G4 17 inch Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I have no experience with Aperture. But if the Aperture names are okay, the Import command in both iMovie and iDVD should deliver images the way you want.
Dragging photos from a Finder window randomizes the order, but the File > Import command works as you want.
To import more than one photo, hold down the Shift key or Command key to select the photos, then hit Open.

  • Collective PO - Generating Delivery Orders for STO using VL10B?

    Dear Folks,
I have created a collective PO from various STO. After goods receipt for the PO, I need to generate delivery orders for the STO. Is it possible to create the delivery orders using transaction VL10B/VL10Batch instead of WF30/WF50?
The issue is because we would like to generate the delivery orders in the background by batch job.
    Best Regards
    Junwen

    Hi,
With merchandise distribution you can configure the system to automatically create the deliveries when you perform the GR.
Look at the configuration for the Site Distribution Profile.
Logistics general->Merchandise Distribution->Site Profiles for Merchandise Distribution
If you are using different data for the 'Pull' Business Process ensure that the Point of CD/FT/PA Delivery gen fiels is set to 1 - 'Goods receipt'. Else just do above config for the 'Default' settings (Blank in Business Process).
This will result in creation of Delivery at the time of GR.

  • Need to arrange photos in order, can't use iphoto. *****.

Spent lots of time @apple store today, found no solution. Desperate.
Need to put my photos in a particular order. I'm a PC and have an older beater ibook G4 (OSX 10.4.11). Ipad won't play with the iBook so arranging pics in iphoto isn't an option.
is there a cheap/direct route to upgrading the ibook to an ipad-friendly version OS? or...?
i bought the ipad to use a digi portfolia. suuuuuuper disappointed i can't do something as basic as arranging photos on it. baaaad apple!

Here’s the method I use to achieve iPhone picture folders in which images are sorted the way I want. Using Adobe Lightroom 3, I create a Collection called “iPhone-Nature”, populate it with images and drag them into the order I want. In Grid Mode, I select all the images in “iPhone-Nature” and export them using a Preset that’s also named “iPhone-Nature”.
    As stated at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4221 ...
“Your iPhone device will look for the following EXIF tags within your pictures:
    Capture Date
    Date Time Digitized
    Date Time Original
    Last Modified”
If the above EXIF data are missing, the iPhone “sorts these photos by the date the files themselves were created.”
So, it’s critical to ensure that the first 4 EXIF are not included in the image files and then create the files in the order in which you wish them to appear in your iPhone’s folders.
Here are the values I use for my Export Preset named “iPhone-Nature”:
    EXPORT LOCATION---
Export To = (choose ‘Pictures Folder’ from menu)
Add To This Catalog = unchecked
Existing files = Ask what to do (You shouldn’t ever be asked—the folder should already be empty as discussed below.)
    FILE NAMING---
Rename to: Choose ‘Edit” from the menu, delete any contents from the the field, type “Nature”, Insert the ‘Sequence # (001)’ token then press ‘Done’.
Start number = “1000” (The example shown should be “Nature1000.jpg)
Extensions = Choose “Lower case” (It probably doesn’t matter.)
(Note: The images don’t really need to be renamed—they’ll be sorted in their creation order—but, maybe iPhone will return to sorting images by their file names someday. Including “Nature” in the filename is for clarity and to avoid any problems there might be with having multiple files named 001.jpg in several folders on the iPhone.)
    FILE SETTINGS---
    Format = JPEG
    Color Space = sRGB
    Quality = 80
Limit File Size To = unchecked
Include Video Files = checked (if you want to include them)
    IMAGE SIZING---
Resize to Fit = Long Edge, 960 pixels
Resolution = 240 pixels per inch
Don’t Enlarge = unchecked (or checked if you wish)
    OUTPUT SHARPENING---
    Sharpen for ‘Screen’
    Amount = Standard
    METADATA---
Minimize Embedded Metadata = checked (This is really important!)
    WATERMARKING---
Watermark = unchecked (or add one if you want)
    POST-PROCESSING---
    Choose ‘Do Nothing’
SAVE THE ABOVE AS A PRESET!
Press the [Add] button (lower left corner) and save these setting as a Preset named “iPhone - Nature”
(Note: If you make changes to any setting, hover your mouse over the Preset’s name, right-click and choose “Update with Current Settings” so they’ll be available next time you use that Preset.)
    FIRST-TIME EXPORT:
    1. Select Lightroom Library’s Collection “iPhone - Nature”
    2. In Grid Mode, ensure that you images are sorted the way you want them (for manually-sorted images: View, Sort = User Order)
    3. Select all images (or just the ones you want)
    4. Press Export
    5. Choose the “iPhone - Nature” Preset then press [Export]
    6. Wait for Lightroom to complete the Export
    7. Connect iPhone to computer
    8. In iTunes, click on the iPhone Device then Click on Photos and ensure that only selected folders will be imported from your Pictures Folder and that “Nature” is checked.
    9. Press [Sync] (in lower right corner)
    SUBSEQUENT EXPORTS:
    1. Delete all files from Pictures/Nature
    2. Sync iPhone (verify that Nature is then no longer among Photo’s albums)
    3. Complete the steps listed under FIRST-TIME EXPORT.

  • Can more than one song be selected for slideshow on IPhoto? If so how

Am trying to put together slideshow of granddaughter's birthday party but want to use more than one song as have a lot of photos.

Thank you for sharing your expertise. I have taken that and tried to create a document on how to do this. You will see some different/additional comments. My idea is to share it with everyone once it is finalized. I am about ready to try and walk through all the steps for real but would ask you to read this over before I commit several hours more to this project. Any comments are appreciated. I am concerned about steps 9 through 13. Not sure i have it right. Any comments will be appreciated. Maury

How to create a Slideshow on DVD
    with music
    using iPhoto and iTunes
    as input sources
    1. Select, crop, and fix slides needed from the iPhoto library. Put them into a newly named folder. (Not a slide show.)
    2. Import this folder into iMovie using KenBurns ON.
    3. Add any necessary transitions between various segments of resulting movie.
(This should be the finished visual project. Using this write down the exact timing needed for stop/start each segment and the total length of the movie.)
    4. Go to iTunes and select various tunes/songs/music desired.
    5. Go to Amadeus and open a new file. (This single will end up the same length as the visual project).
    6. Open JACK to connect iTunes to Amadeus.
    7. Choose a tune, find the correct snippet of music and adjust to stop/start times from 3 above. Move your snippet to Amadeus. Use cross fade so one snippet will blend into the next one. Load these in the correct order of the slideshow segments.
(Note: Music purchased from the iTunes Store is "protected" in ACC and will no render into another format. This means it cannot be used in this example. A major inconvenience.)
    8. Your result will be string of snippets strung together in proper order and in total making up a single file the same length as your slideshow.
    9. Paste this new music file into the iMovie.
    10, Close iMovie.
    11. Open iDVD, select your theme and leave the menu window open.
    12. Open the iMovie project file (Control-click on it and select Show Package Contents) and navigate to the Shared Movies/iDVD folder.
    13. Drag the .mov file in there into the open iDVD window being sure not to drop it into any menu drop zones.
(You'll know if you are in a drop zone (if there are any) since a text link appears with the same name as the movie file you're dragging.)
(This allows iDVD to do the rendering thus eliminating two renderings on the same file which reduces image quality......)
14 Save the project to Disk Image instead of burning directly to disk.
    15. Open the disk image and launch DVD Player.
This will let you check out the finished project with DVD Player before committing to disk. You'll be able to check out the audio sync, typos etc.
    16. When you are ready to burn to disk use File>Disk Utility.
(See: Burning a disk image file on a CD or DVD in Mac OS X.) The first step, saving to Disk Image is the encoding process and takes the longest time. Often it will seem like it's hung on the audio encoding but let it go on and on, as it often is the longest part of the encoding process.
    17. This should be the finished product.
    18. Snail Mail DVD to adorable grandchild and wait for parents to call saying it made them both cry. (Of course, this implies you are a grandparent.)

Software: iLife 06 (iPhoto, iTunes, iMovie, and iDVD); DVD Player; Amadeus; and Jack.

About item 16, is there any way to tell the difference between "hung up" and "encoding" while it is going on?

  • Consumption material in two Purchase Order for diff use

    Dear Expert,
I have two scenario where in one common material  i.e non stock item i am using in a different manner,
    1) One i will use in PO doc type as NB with K(Cost centre) as a acct assignment, where i will procure & consume for my own plant use, as like consumables.
Here GR will made against NB po will update respective GL of costcentre. (BSX & WRX)
    2) 2nd i will use in PO Doc type as ZPB with K (Cost centre) as a acct assignment, where i wil procure & keep it for a project,
Here GR will made against ZPB po will update respective GL of costcentre. (BSX & WRX).
Now  my requirement is i would like to see the diff GL entries of NB PO & ZPB PO of same material. Is it possible in SAP?
    Best ans will be awarded.
    Regards
    TG

    Hi,
You are procuring same material for the two different reasons ( Own expanse & Project purpose) for the same plant.
Material , Plant & Acount assignment category 'K' are same, only difference is document type ( NB & ZNB).
If you are procuring material for the nonstock ( Cost centre 'K') purpose, system won't pick stock account 'BSX'. It will pick another transcation key GBB / VBR - internal goods issue instead of BSX. If you are procuring material only for the stock purpose ( with out account assignment category) , then only system will pick stock account 'BSX'. So, in your case offsetting entry GBB /  VBR & WRX keys will come into picture.
Create your material with the different valuation class for the each valuation type.
    Valuation type 1  -  Valuation class 1
    Valuation type 2  -  Valuation class 2
Then maintain OBYC settings, like below for the transcation key GBB.
    GBB
Valuation grouping code               General modifier             valuation class                       G/L account
    0001                                                       VBR                             VC1                                           G/L 1
    0001                                                        VBR                             VC2                                          G/L 2
Create two PO's with two different document types and maintain valuation type 1 in the 1st PO and valuation 2 in the second PO.
Then at the time of doing GR, system will pick G/L account your valuation type.
In this manner, system will pick different G/L accounts for the each case.

  • System raising planned order for PIR using strategy group 50

    Hello Everyone,
Here I am planning to use strategy group 50 for the finished product. I have given PIR Qtys for the same and when MRP is run system is automatically raising planned orders of order type LA. Which means the same can be converted to production order and I am able to convert the same.
But as I understand with strategy group 50, you can convert planned orders to production orders only if sales orders exist and
Dependent requirements for lower levels are thrown and can be manufactured but not header material.
So I am not sure why this is happening. Or is strategy group 50 not supported for AFS.
    Please do provide inputs.
    Sincerely,
    Aji Kurian Mani

    Hello Aji Kurian Mani ,
Currently, AFS is designed to support only strategy group 40.
