Sorting playlists in ITunes 10

I just downloaded ITunes 10, and when I was making the artwork larger in one of the playlist, I accidentally sorted by album name. In this list the track numbers are from the original albums, but that's not how I want them to go in the playlist (eg, I'd want to play track one of an album, then track five, then track two, then track four of a different album. I've tried all the sort options and none of them make it how I want it. It did let me click and drag the tracks at one point, but I don't know how I did it. Is there any way to organize the playlist the way I want without changing the track numbers on the original albums?

I searched and searched for an answer, didn't see one, but sorry if this is a duplicate: Finally figured out how to undo sort by name/title/artist/etc columns after accidentally hitting the Name field and freaking out that there isn't an 'undo' option in iTunes! To get my playlist back to normal, what I did was sort my playlist by something I didn't need like 'play count'. Then right click at the top where the play count column title was. You will see all column options listed. Uncheck 'play count'. Walla, my playlist was back to normal!! phew...

  • How to manually sort playlists in iTunes?

Okay so I know you can manually sort songs within a playlist on iTunes but I wanted to know if you could manually sort the order of the playlists. It just defaults to alphabetic order which is annoying because I don't want them in that order...Is it possible to do this? Thanks!

    No you cannot.
To sort them, you need to rename them.

  • IPhone no longer syncs playlists in the same sort order as iTunes

iPhone 4 no longer syncs playlists in the same sort order as iTunes after iOS5 upgrade.  Any suggestions?

Thanks for the feedback.  Yes, it is very frustrating.  That was one functionality that worked very well.  Not only is the sort within the playlist bad but the sorting of the playlists themselves is bad.  I used to use an undetscore "-" to sort some of my folders to the top of the play list of the most played playlists and that does not work either.  It ignores the underscore and just sorts on the alpha character.  Hope this gets fixed.

  • How to Control Sort Order of Playlists in iTunes?

As far as I can tell, somewhere along the way iTunes stopped sorting playlists alphabetically, numbers before letters, and started sorting playlists alphabetically, letters before numbers. Or at least that's how it now happens on my iPhone; I think the change happened with the iPhone 3.0 OS update.
Has anyone found a better way to set a sort order than by putting "AA" and "AAA" in front of the playlists they want to have at the top of the list? Because that's an awfully inelegant solution -- to my mind, if you have to use a prefix at all, using 01, 02 et cetera was a far better way of doing things. Is there a setting I can tick to go back to the old way? Or, better still, a way to set that sort order arbitrarily, independent of the playlists' names?

    If you label your favorite/priority playlists as A1, A2, A3...B1, B2, B3
Then they will sort the way you want (except on the iPod Classic which seems to have it's own sorting).

  • Sorting out playlists after iTunes Match

I just completed my iTunes Match thing, and i was happy.
But then realised that i can't sync particualr playlists using iTunes, to my iPhone.
Why is this. Why can't i sort my music, the way i used to, using iTunes, then syncing up the playlists that i want and th emusic that i want.
    What i'm seeing is this;
Instead of the usual sync opions. Now i'm afraid to sync my iPhone incase it removes or adds music that i don't want on my iPhone at this time.
Is there a way to get the out Sync opions back?

And so now i discover that all my iPhone playlists are gone, all the music is there, but i have no playlists, nothign.
Do i need to recreate all my playlists again using my iPhone?
If so, i wish i'd never used iTunes Match now. Its just created more problems then it sovled.
Thanks Apple, thanks for infoming me that i'd lose all my playlists on my iPhone, and now have to spend god knows how long rebuilding them.
PUT THE IPHONE MUSIC SYNC OPIONS BACK TO THE WAY THERE WERE!
If not, then i guess i might end up taking all my DRM free music someplace else, couse i feel, lately using Apple is far much like hard work.

  • How do I reorder songs in a playlist in iTunes 12? I can't just click and drag.

I am working on a playlist in iTunes 12, I need the songs to be burned to a CD in a specific order.
I cannot figure out how to manually re-order my songs in this playlist.
I know how to order the songs by artist, album, genre etc but I need to be able to do it manually however I want the songs to play.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Vera,
Use View > View Options, and set 'Sort By" to "Manual Order."
Then you will be able to drag-n-drop songs up and down the list.

  • Song shows up in playlist on iTunes, but not on the iPod Touch

So I bought a song from iTunes on my iPod Touch, and so it shows up on the "Purchased" playlist, and I can listen to it. So, I sync up to my PC (or my wife's MacBook Pro, doesn't matter) and using iTunes, I add the song to a playlist of my current favorites. I then sync the iPod. In iTunes, it shows the song as part of the playlist, and shows that there are 24 songs in it. But when I unhook the iPod and look at that exact same playlist, the new song does not show up, and it says that there are 23 songs in the playlist.
I have already tried deleting the playlist, creating a whole new one, and I can put any song I want in there, except for this one. ??? Anyone heard of this before?

If the song is in iTunes, and it is in a playlist that you auto-sync your Touch to, then the only things that might cause this problem are:
1- Is this new song un-checked in iTunes? If your Touch is set to sync only checked items that would prevent it from syncing. If that's the case, just enable the checkmark next to the new song and re-sync.
2- Is this playlist a smart playlist that is forced to be limited in size? If so, there is a bug with the 3.1.x OS such that smart playlists that are limited in size will have different contents (and sorted differently) when you compare the playlist on iTunes vs. on the Touch. The solution in this case is to disable Live Updating in the smart playlist definition, then the two versions of the playlist will agree.
3- Is the new song tagged as "Skip when Shuffling"? If so, and if your Touch is in shuffle mode, then the song count in the playlist will not include songs that are designated to be skipped.
See if any of those three things are what is going on. If not, then perhaps you need to reset or restore your Touch, but I doubt that.

  • Sorting Playlist

I just bought my wife an iPod mini, in which my son created a playlist of 80's tunes for her. I forced both the album and the Genre to "80's Mix" of these songs in iTunes. I sort by either of those field in iTunes so they can all be selected easily and drag them to the iPod. When she plays those songs, they are always played in the order of the Artist, so all the same artist's song are played together. I would like them played by the order of name of the songs. How do I change the order of play?

Did you ever find a solution to this? I am having the same issue. I dumped a bunch of songs into a playlist that I made. I clicked the "Name" column for this playlist in iTunes so the songs are listed in alpha order by song title rather than artist. However, on my iPod, they are still listed first my artist name order then by song order. I really hate this because it does not even show you the artist name unless you play the song.

  • Smart Playlist in iTunes not the same as on iPod?

    Hi all,
Currently I am in the process of making my entire CD collection (> 800 CD's) available on my new iPod classic. Ripping goes fine, no problem at all. But I have a problem with the Smart Playlists. Every CD in my collection has a unique number. I put that number in the 'Comments' section of every ripped CD (select all tracks of an album, go into 'Get info' and fill the 'Comments' section with a number like 0245).
In iTunes I create a smart playlist containing every CD within a range of, say, 02. In iTunes I then see every CD starting with the number 02 (from 0200 to 0299). When i sync with my iPod, the playlists are available, but the sorting is not ok. I see a lot of tracks, but not organised by CD as in iTunes. Is there a way to change this so that on the iPod the sorting is the same as in iTunes.

Select your Smart Playlist in iTunes, arrange it in the order you want, then right-click on the Smart Playlist title in the sources panel and click on *Copy to Play Order*. Sync. Your iPod should now have the correct play order.

  • How can I add new songs to the top (not the bottom) of my playlist in iTunes?

How can I add new songs to the top of my playlist in iTunes?
I thought thats what it did before but now it automatically adds new songs to the bottom of the list.
Not a huge issue but an annoyance.

    Go to your Music library
    Then, Click Playlist
Then, Click the sort arrow until it points down.

  • Sorting Playlist order?

This may be a ridiculous question but can you sort a playlist in iTunes that will show up other than in the order a song was added or track listing? I've tried reserving a playlist order so the most recent tracks added appear at the beginning of the list but it won't keep that order once synced to the ipod. Basically I'm just trying to keep the most recent songs on top. I'm thinking there's an easy way to do this and I'm just missing it.
Any advice is appreciated, sorry if this is a very newb question,
    Thank you,
    Jason

In your smart playlist settings, set a limit for the number of tracks in the list (but make it higher than you'll need if you don't actually want a limit), then pick the order you want the tracks to be in from the "selected by" drop down.
For some reason this hasn't been working for play count (and so presumably might not work for some other options, if definitely works if you arrange by album), so try turning off live updating on a top 25 type list.

  • Changing sort order in iTunes does not change order on iPad

If you create a new playlist (not a smart playlist) in iTunes, you can get the songs to order according to the track number or the name of the song or the size etc. It used to be that this selected sort order would be reflected in the corresponding playlists on the iPhone/iPad
This doesn't seem to work using iTunes 10.6, iTunes Match and iOS 5.1 on my iPad 2.
    1. I create a new playlist in iTunes and name it Test.
    2. I sort this playlist by the Name column, so that the songs are in the A to Z order (Fernando, SOS, Waterloo)
    3. The new playlist appears on my iPad.
    4. The iPad playlist lists the songs in the order selected in iTunes.
Now, back in iTunes, I click on the Name column again, so the names are now sorted in reverse. That is, from Z to A (Waterloo, SOS, Fernando). I also rename the playlist to Test 2 so that I know that the same playlist has been updated on my iPad.
So the playlist Test 2 is now ordered by the song name from Z to A in iTunes. However, the playlist on the iPad does NOT reflect the new sort order. It is still ordered A to Z, not Z to A as I expected.
    5. Now I create a new playlist named Test 3. I open Test 2 (still in the order Z to A) and copy the songs to Test 3.
    6. The new playlist named Test 3 appears on the iPad.
    7. The songs are in the correct order.
    8. Change the order again in the playlist.
    9. The change in the order is NOT reflected on the iPad.
Grrr. I quit the Music app (including the background process on the iPad) and launch it again. But the order of the songs in Test 2 is still not the same as in iTunes.
Totally frustrated, I do the following:
    1. Quit all apps running in the background on the iPad.
    2. Go to Settings and turn off iTunes Match.
    3. Log out of the iTunes store.
    4. Restart my iPad so that the playlists disappear from my Music app.
    5. Turn iTunes Match back on.
    6. Log back into the Store.
    7. Wait for the iCloud to sync.
    8. Playlist Test 2 is still in the incorrect order! This is unbelievable.
I have tried the Right-Click 'Copy to Play Order' trick that I read about in another post but it doesn't help.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Any solutions?
    Thanks in advance.

This isn't an issue of putting songs on that I don't want, it's that it doesn't CHANGE my music, even when I try to make it change.  I've got over 15000 songs in my iTunes; my iPod can only hold around 275 songs.  My problem, is that I can't make it "randomly" choose different songs.  when I try to change the music, it puts the same songs on over and over.
Emphasis here is on RANDOM: I do not want to have to select the music to put on my shuffle. and
CHANGE: If I only wanted to listen to the same 275 songs, I wouldn't have bothered purchasing the others...

  • I made a new playlist on ituns and changed the format to MPS, but I still cannot get it moved to my SD in that format...help?

I made a new playlist on ituns and changed the format to MPS, but I still cannot get it moved to my SD in that format...help?

Ok, so you said you've already right clicked on each song and "created a MP3 version?"
If so sort the library's music by "Date Added (if it is not there right click on the other sort bars and add the column "Date Added". The mp4 versions are the ones in the playlist. You will have to find the newly added mp3s by sorting by Date Added.  Hope this helps!

  • Songs on iPhone playlist completely different from playlist in iTunes

I have a smart playlist "Most Played." It's pretty simple: Limited to 50 items selected by most often played. Works fine in iTunes, however the playlist on my phone contains 50 completely different songs in no order that I can make any sense of. In fact, they seem to be songs that I rarely listen to. I've tried altering the playlist, and even deleting the playlist and recreating it, but it still picks the same obscure 50 songs. Why would a playlist on the iPhone be different from the same playlist on iTunes?

I have the exact same problem. My "Most often Played" playlist which appears fine in iTunes and fine when viewing the list in iTunes (but on my iPhone) when I disconnect from the computer this playlist is full of songs I have listened to a couple of times and basically don't care for. I've tried renaming the playlist thinking it had something to do with the 'M.O.P.' naming scheme. I've deleted the entire contents of the playlist and re-synced, but nothing seems to change these weird songs from appearing in my most often played list. I noticed this after the 3.1 update, but can't be completely sure when it started. This is annoying. My plain old iPod maintains the library much better than the iPhone iPod. Any suggestions? Seems like every time we want the iPhone to act like an iPod, we have to do a bunch of tricks to get it to sort of work. Personally I blame it on windows compatibility, the more compatible Apple makes their stuff with windows, the less reliable and kludgy their stuff gets. (Sorry didn't mean to blame Windows, just frustrated.)

  • Itunes match has removed my playlists from itunes and my iphone. Not only that, many of the songs 'matched' on itunes do not show up on my iphone. Seriously annoyed, wish I'd never paid for it

Please read the title; itunes match has removed my playlists on itunes and iphone and the songs that are supposedly 'matched' on itunes are not showing up on my iphone.
    Any Really annoyed about this

iTunes Match does not have the ability to remove local files.
The service operates by comparing the selected iTunes Library with the iTunes Store content and 'matching' or 'uploading' - it is very straightforward a 'match' provides equivalent access to iTunes Store content as a recognised 'purchase'; upload simply copies a 256k AAC variant into the cloud.  There are no elements of this activity that can erase the local library content.
Would suggest you explore possible alternative causes of file loss.  Given the pattern described of selective deletion, leaving many Songs intact - would suggest making at least 2 secure offline Song file backups and starting the library again from a fresh install of iTunes once a thorough sweep of the system has been completed for virus.  It is also worth assessing the physical security of the system - who has access & with what privileges.
To access Songs from the cloud, you would have to manually delete the Song from the library or open an empty library - so even when accessing content, iTunes Match provides no local deletion capability.
