Sorting playlists in WM

Simple question I hope. How can you sort your playlists in WMP0? Mine seem stuck in the original order.

Windows Media Player do not allow sorting in playlist. However, you can right-click on the tracks and select Move Up/Move Down to re-order the tracks.Message Edited by micromouse on 07-02-2005 08:03 PM

    I have a Chromebook and thus use the web player exclusively now. Unfortunately, there is no way to organize and sort playlists or even songs within playlists within the brower version so my playlists are currently a mess. Would love to add sorting features to the web browser version.

  • Sorting Playlist

    I just bought my wife an iPod mini, in which my son created a playlist of 80's tunes for her. I forced both the album and the Genre to "80's Mix" of these songs in iTunes. I sort by either of those field in iTunes so they can all be selected easily and drag them to the iPod. When she plays those songs, they are always played in the order of the Artist, so all the same artist's song are played together. I would like them played by the order of name of the songs. How do I change the order of play?

    Did you ever find a solution to this? I am having the same issue. I dumped a bunch of songs into a playlist that I made. I clicked the "Name" column for this playlist in iTunes so the songs are listed in alpha order by song title rather than artist. However, on my iPod, they are still listed first my artist name order then by song order. I really hate this because it does not even show you the artist name unless you play the song.

  • Sorting playlists in ITunes 10

    I just downloaded ITunes 10, and when I was making the artwork larger in one of the playlist, I accidentally sorted by album name. In this list the track numbers are from the original albums, but that's not how I want them to go in the playlist (eg, I'd want to play track one of an album, then track five, then track two, then track four of a different album. I've tried all the sort options and none of them make it how I want it. It did let me click and drag the tracks at one point, but I don't know how I did it. Is there any way to organize the playlist the way I want without changing the track numbers on the original albums?

    I searched and searched for an answer, didn't see one, but sorry if this is a duplicate: Finally figured out how to undo sort by name/title/artist/etc columns after accidentally hitting the Name field and freaking out that there isn't an 'undo' option in iTunes! To get my playlist back to normal, what I did was sort my playlist by something I didn't need like 'play count'. Then right click at the top where the play count column title was. You will see all column options listed. Uncheck 'play count'. Walla, my playlist was back to normal!! phew...

  • Sorting playlist issue

    Hard to explain but I'll give it a go:
    I import all my old CDs into intunes and I number them 1-540 etc.
    I put the CD in the comments field.
    I sort the comments field everything is great.
    Then I make a master playlist with all songs in it.
    I then click in master playlist that far left field, and that sorts the track numbers perfectly, 1 or 20, 2 of 20 etc.
    This has been working great for first 540 CDs and then suddently the track nubmer sorting is not right.
    When I sort for comments 517 is not between 516 and 518 as it should be but at the bottom of the pile under 540. thanks

    Sort it the way you want, then right-click on the playlist name and click Copy to Play Order.

  • Sorting Playlist is a Challenge

    For some reasons I am not able to get the hang of sorting by multiple fields, for example, I have multiple playlists that I want sorted by Date Added descending, and within that by Album
    Example:
    Date Added 2009.09.15
    Album A1
    B1
    C1
    D1
    Date Added 2009.09.02
    Album A2
    B2
    C2
    .. and so on. Is it possible?

    But I believe that the OP wants to "reset the count",
    so to speak, on any line seperator character found in
    the original data. So, at most 70 chars per line, but
    possibly less if the original data contains a line
    seperator.
    Leeright, right...
    final char RETURN = '\n';
    StringBuffer buffer = new StringBuffer(input);
    int next = 0;
    int tempNext;
    do
       tempNext = buffer.toString().indexOf(RETURN, next);
       if (tempNext < next || tempNext > next + 70)
          next += 70;
       else
          next = tempNext;
       if (next > buffer.length())
          break;
       buffer.insert(RETURN, next);
       next++;
    } while(next < buffer.length())

  • Sorting Playlist order?

    This may be a ridiculous question but can you sort a playlist in iTunes that will show up other than in the order a song was added or track listing? I've tried reserving a playlist order so the most recent tracks added appear at the beginning of the list but it won't keep that order once synced to the ipod. Basically I'm just trying to keep the most recent songs on top. I'm thinking there's an easy way to do this and I'm just missing it.
    Any advice is appreciated, sorry if this is a very newb question,
    Thank you,
    Jason

    In your smart playlist settings, set a limit for the number of tracks in the list (but make it higher than you'll need if you don't actually want a limit), then pick the order you want the tracks to be in from the "selected by" drop down.
    For some reason this hasn't been working for play count (and so presumably might not work for some other options, if definitely works if you arrange by album), so try turning off live updating on a top 25 type list.

  • How to manually sort playlists in iTunes?

    Okay so I know you can manually sort songs within a playlist on iTunes but I wanted to know if you could manually sort the order of the playlists. It just defaults to alphabetic order which is annoying because I don't want them in that order...Is it possible to do this? Thanks!

    No you cannot.
    To sort them, you need to rename them.

  • Sorting Playlists

    I have a 'my top rated playlist' but all of the songs are sorted by album in no particular order that I can tell - is there a way to sort the playlist by artist? I've tried looking through the owner manual, synching my ipod manually, changing the sorted order on my itunes and it's still showing up the same on my ipod.

  • Sorting playlists iOS

    Android has a better playlist organization than iOS. They have the ability to alphabetize playlists and sort the downloaded playlists on top. Please bring it to iOS.

    Sorting tracks within Playists in general would be a great help and also quite a basic feature on IOS I would have thought by now (£10 a month guys come on!)
    • The default Spotify sorting of tracks within playlists on start up of the application is always set to be in order of  date the track was added , with the most recent at the bottom. -  This is annoying that the app won't remember your sort order, also that you cannot set a default sort order within settings.
    • Same goes for IOS
    Other than that just peachy :)

  • Sorting playlists on my iPad

    How can I sort my playlists on my iPad, without having to drag each and every song manually in the edit mode?

    Yeah, I'm stumped, too. Now I've found songs that aren't in alphabetical order!
    I.e.:
    Well ...
    BWV ...
    West ...
    LIz, thanks for being the only one to jump in, besides Ibrahim, of course, but I think he fell more than jumped.

  • How do i sort playlists? NOT THE CONTENT (songs)

    Hi guys, Is there a way to sort/order the playlist order NOT the content of the playlist (songs inside the playlist) since its alphabetically sorted by default.
    For example you have 3 playlists named...
    Strawberry
    Apple
    Grapes
    It'll be automatically sorted in the order of Apple -> Grapes -> Strawberry no matter when the playlist was created.

    Add leading digits.
    1: Strawberry
    2: Apple
    3: Grapes
    And use playlist folders to group related playlists.

  • How to sort playlists?

    Hi,
    On the left hand side of the screen is my list of playlists. I find that when I make a new one and want to add songs to it, it is rarely titled so that it ends up near the top of the list where I can see it, and I end up adding ! or * to the front of it. Is there a way to sort the playlists by date instead of by name? Thanks.

    No. However, you can make a folder under playlists, put a bunch of playlists into it, and turn the triangle so only the name of the folder shows. That makes it easier to find the remaining ones.

  • Still having problems with sorting playlists

    I asked these questions a couple weeks ago with no response.
    1. I am trying to create a playlist using the latest version of ITunes that is similar to the Today's Hit Music playlist I set up earlier this summer. The 90s music playlist that came with ITunes and this playlist work fine. However, any new playlists created since the upgrade to ITunes 11 do not. In the above scenario where I set up a playlist that only has one rule and that rule is year is greater than whatever, ITunes refuses to sort the playlist by year then by artist, instead sorting the entire playlist by artist. My Today's Hit Music playlist, on the other hand, sorts with the year on top, so every song that I have allowed in the playlist is sorted by year. For example, B.O.B, Pitbull, Taio Cruz and Usher have songs from 2010 in the playlist. Their songs are all sorted alphabetically by artist, then by album as they should be. Then Pitbull, New Boys, and Hot Chelle Ray all have songs from 2011. Under the old system, these would be right below the songs from 2010, but in the new system they are mixed in with the 2010 songs, so Pitbull could have 2 songs back to back that did not come out in the same year. How can I fix this?
    2. I have a playlist set up for songs that are not in any other playlist. I had to recreate this playlist the last time I reset my plays because my phone wouldn't remove the songs that were added to the playlist since its creation from the list when it was supposed to. Now however, I am having the same problem with it as I was having with the last playlist. With the old system before ITunes 11, if What I Want by Daudtrey was the first song in that playlist, it would always be the first song, creating a sound that sounded like it was on shuffle, which I thought was cool. Now, it just sorts alphabetically by artist regardless of when it was played. How can I tell ITunes to not rearrange this playlist and just add all new songs to the end?

    I don't know how to do this without using a mouse point.
    This may help, http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000542.htm
    As for question #2, you call tell how iTunes is sorting songs by the up or down arrow next to a header name.
    Even the original order that the songs were entered or date added or last played can be sorted.
    Much easier with a mouse or touch pad.

  • How Can I Sort Playlists By Artist Name IPOD

    Hello to all,
    When I select a playlist on my Ipod Color, it will take me to the list of songs in song title alphabetical order. I want to have them appear in artist alphabetical order instead, how can I do this?
    Richy

    Hi.
    Forget it, asked same question before, and it seems that you can do nothing about it than send feedback to Apple and hope it gets done in a future update-release.
    It should be so easy, such a function, but it is definitely not available currently. A real pain.....
    Best regards,
    Peter
