Sorting podcasts by average user rating?

When I do a search of podcasts I'd like to be able to sort by average user rating rather than 'popularity' (which I assume means how many people have subscribed in total).
Why you may wonder? Well I'm more interested in a podcast that's fairly new but has a 5 star rating (e.g. Mac OS Ken) than an old one that used to be good but has gone downhill so bad that it has a 2 star rating.

You could create a smart playlist that contains all your podcasts and then sort that by rating.
Hope this helps.

  • Suggestion: App store search by user rating!  Am I alone?

When I search for apps on the iTunes app store, there's typically so many that I want to see the ones that are rated the highest first. Am I alone in this view? At the very least there should be an option to sort the list.
Google became the king of search in large part because they put such heavy ranking emphasize on third party links which is the web's way of rating a site as good. Why does Apple not do the same thing with its user ratings on the app store? As far as I can tell, the rankings are not influenced much at all by the app ratings which forces me to scan multiple pages looking for the best rated ones.
Is this the best way to post this suggestion to Apple or is there a better place? Anyone know if this enhancement is planned?

Nope you're not alone I totally agree. I also think being able to search alphabetically together with user rating would be more of a plus. Other ideas are to add searching by the type of device and os s person has. It cuts time on searching for apps that are compatible with your device. I spend alot of time searching for games and these search features coming from a mother with 2 daughters one being borderline severely autistic I just don't have the time and end up staying up very late which is not any better.

  • Sorting podcast on iPod by release date

I have been googling solution for this problem but none of the solution that people suggesting really works. So the problem is I can sort podcasts by release date in iTunes but on my iPod I cannot. iPod automatically sorts all the episodes by name which is not what I want. I need a chronical order.
Is there any way to sort podcasts by release dates on iPod touch?
    Thanks,

I'd also like to be able to sort contacts by Business->User (like iTunes does with albums->songs).
Address Book also needs some kind of "Business"-merging of all people inside a single business (so we don't have to repeat all information such as fax, URL, address, etc).

  • Difference between Average Message Rating and Average Message Rating Gi

    Hi folks,
Can anyone tell me, with respect to the user profile for the forum, what's the difference between Average Message Rating and Average Message Rating Gi'ven?
(I did post this in the Off Topic forum, but I guess it is actually On Topic)

    SSR,
Average Message Rating is the rating that you are given by other people. Average Message Rating Gi'ven is the average rating that you give to others.

  • Implement Visual Representation (Stars) of user rating

I have a customer trying to implement the following visual representation of user rating.
    Example
    rating 1 :- *
    rating 2 :- **
    rating 3 :- ***
    etc.
To represent the star we are using a small gif. To repeat the star as per the rating following code is attached with it under web tab
    ----Code--------
    <?for-each@shape:xdoxslt:foreach_number($_XDOCTX,0,RATING,1)?><?shape-offset-x:(position()-1)*25?>
    <?end for-each?>
This is as detialed in the

    Hi JOhn,
    thanks for the reply.
I realized IRU was useless for this, but maybe Match EQ on the before and after recorded reponses will tell us anything.
If I could dump the raw sine sweep to file (for example with wiretap pro), MatLab could also do the math. But Matlab is not free, either
I guess I'll just go for Match EQ. I'm just curious, and want some indication, don't need a thorough analysis for this.
    Cheers!

  • Sort podcast by track name - yes or no?

A simple question for which I cannot find an answer. Does iTunes allow sorting PODCASTS by track name? From what I've read in the many convoluted questions and answers, apparently it cannot. Please let me know if I'm wrong.

    *Short answer:*
    No.
    *Longer answer:*
If you make a playlist and drag the podcasts into it then yes, you can sort them on any column that iTunes caters for, but you can't do it in the Podcasts section of your library
    *Even longer answer:*
Details of how to reconnect orphaned episodes and reorder tracks within a podcast should be in this older thread:

  • Podcast capture to User blog pages?

    Hi All
It's probably related to workflows but I'm still getting my head around PcP interacting with blog server.
PcP publishes podcast created from podcast capture to a group blog page. no probs.
What I'm not getting is how to tell Pc Capture to post the created podcast to a User blog page. I can change the publishing location by changing the "Group Short Name" in the PcP pane of server admin. This is not a very multiple user friendly.
It would make sence to me that if you log in to Pc Capture as "User X" that the default post would be applied to User X's Blog page.
Is there any way of making Pc producer behave like this? Or does it already do this and I'm just being silly?
    Thanks All

I've been working on this on and off for a couple weeks and here's where I sit.
As of 10.5.4 the pcastaction command has a userblog option which takes the following flags.
    --basedir=BASEDIR --serverurl=SERVERURL --title=TITLE
    --username=USERNAME --pcastserver=PCASTSERVER --otp=OTP
    (--content=CONTENT | --contentfile=CONTENTFILE)
    [--authorize=AUTHORIZE] [--outfile[=OUTFILE]]
Now if I try and use the Group administrator information for username or otp then it exits with and error. If I put my information in for username I don't know what or how to set the otp.
Has any body else figure out how to deal with the otp flag?
    Thanks,
    Derek

  • Sort Podcasts by release date

Is there anyway to sort podcasts by reverse relase date?  I have many podcasts.  By default, they are sorted with the most recent first.  When I listen to them I can either listen to them individually, oldest first, which is a pain because I have to manually select them, or put them in a playlist.  When in the playlist, they play by most recent first, which is also a pain because I hear episode 7 before episode 6, etc.
I want to be able to listen to the oldest podcast first!
    Anybody have any ideas?

Why not actually fix "shuffle" for podcast smart playlists?????

  • Sorting podcasts on Ipod nano 3rd

Is there a way to sort podcasts from oldest to newest, instead of the newest to oldest that it is currently set on? While I am working sometimes I am not able to switch to newest podcast before it automatically goes to the older one, so this would really help me out.
    Thanks.

Here is my situation. I downloaded some podcasts from iTunes on my PC. I transferred them to my Mac so I could put them on my iPod. Although they were poscasts, they were still mp3s. I dragged them onto my iPod into the main library and listened to them, but now I can't delete them!
When I plug my iPod up to update the library, they don't show up anywhere in the iPod library. But whwn the iPod is dosconnected, I can do a search and find them.
When I click the iPod icon in iTunes and look at the disk usage, there are somethings taking up space as "other", around 138 MB, but I now have no way to delete them. I don't have this problem with any other mp3's, just these two that were Podcasts.
Short of restoring the entire iPod and deleting everything, how can I delete these stupid MP3's.

  • Seek easy and safe way for average users to manage the contents of Portal.

    Dear all,
My boss today requested me to provide a easy, safe way for average users in my company to manage the contents of Portal themselves.
My boss request users can upload files, documents, images and text into Portal.
I know that Oracle Portal provides security control for editing Portal. But it also provides a quite complex operations for manage the contents of Portal.
I am afraid average users cannot manage it easily.
Can anyone have experience on the issues and can you give me suggestion?
    Thanks a lot
    George (HK)

    Hi Vijay.B,
We can give privileges to manage the contents of the portal page.
Create a group and add the users into that group and for the page level privilege >>add this group as manage.
The members of the group can manage the page.I know the above is the standard strategy for users to manage the portal contents.
But, as an average user, I think it is still to complicated to manage.
For my case, I need to provide a means for average users to add news to the portal, so my priliminary idea is that I will create a portlet for news entries such as news heading, hyperlinks, text and save the entries in DB. Then, on the homepage of Portal, I will create another portlet for displaying the news headlines with hyperlink pointing to the actual URL.
    thanks
    George

  • Will the "average" user ever "see" the difference between i5 & i7?

I bought an i5 this weekend and am having a bit of buyer's remorse after realizing I could have paid $200 more for the i7 (though the 2-week wait time might lead to buyer's remorse of a different kind ). Online tests suggest as much as a 30% increase in speed. Of course, this is using Geekbench 64 CPU+RAM which ignores a whole host of other factors. So, I'm wondering if the average user (let's say games, RAW photo editing, surfing, watching videos, etc) would really see that 30%. I imagine someone encoding lots of video might, but my gut tells me that the 10% cost increase would probably only translate into a 10-15% "noticeable" increase for average use.
(PS I'm using quotes a lot because a solid argument could be made that the "average" user won't even notice the difference between dual and quad cores. )

Well the i5 and the i7 are very fast you definitely would tell the difference between the core 2 duo processor, the differences on the i5, to the i7, are very close to each other you remark 15 percent, thats what the increase is, I have the i7, and I tested the i5 encoding with final cut pro and it was not much of a difference, just that the i7 has multi thread, once your CPU is feeling a bit overworked the threads aliviate the load by pushing them through those threads.

  • IPhone No Longer Sorts Podcasts By Release Date After 3.1 Update

After upgrading to iPhone OS 3.1 and iTunes 9.0(70) Podcasts on the iPhone no longer sort according to their release date. The ordering is definitely not alphabetical or any of the other user selectable sorting options. If I had to guess I'd say it's sorting them by reverse download order (which when you update less frequently than once a day is quite confusing since iTunes downloads most recent first). Is this a problem with the iPhone OS, iTunes or an option that I'm missing somewhere (the iTunes podcast tab is set to sort by release date).

I'm thinking this is not a iphone 3.1 upgrade issue, as the only thing I have upgraded is to iTunes 9 and I am having the exact same problem. After upgrading my phone did lock up really bad. The screen was on, was showing slide to unlock but was totally unresponsive to the home and sleep buttos. Plugging it back into the computer also did nothing. I had to hard restart it with the home and sleep button in sych.
My Podcasts have no sorting capability what so ever. There is no logical reason they are so jumbled up.

  • Sort Images by average luminance -- possible?  Hints?

Another edition of "Not that I know of".  :-)
Is there any way to sort Images in Aperture by average luminance?
Is there any way to determine the average luminance and save this to a custom metadata field?
    Bonus: hue?
NB: using the Preview to determine average luminance or hue is OK by me  .
    Thanks in advance.

Looks like with the current tools in Aperture there is no way to do this. You might want to look and see if there is any third party apps  but I'm not hopeful.
I haven't found anything.  There is the app I mentioned in the similar thread in the OS X Dev forum:  CF/X Photo Mosaic.  It (surprisingly quickly!) creates a database of the images that will be used as tesserae in the making of photo mosaic, and allows the user to sort the image database by average color or average luminance.  I've asked their input.  There is no way to export the database, or — afaict — to use any of the information outside the program itself.
Here's a screengrab from the manual showing images in the Photo Mosaic database with each image's average hue and average luminance displayed as a sample tile and a hex ordinal.  The luminance scale is 1 to 256 (in hex).  I'm not sure what the hue scale is (I guess it's 16 million).

One of the new systems strengths is reported to be the ability to write extensions for the core image engine more easily then the current state of writing a plugin for Aperture. Perhaps something will get written then.
We'll see.  I am holding my breath.
    Not .

  • Can't sort Podcasts xcpt by Release Date since upgrading to 11.0.4

I'm on a Macbook Pro running OSX 10.6.8. Since upgrading to iTunes 11.0.4 I'm unable to sort my Podcasts by any criteria but Release Date. I'd like to be able to sort them (as I have in the past) by rating. I've tried by clicking at the top of the Rating column - no luck - as well as by using Show View Options under the View menu. Oddly enough, I am able to sort by the Rating column in Music.
Another anomaly since "upgrading" (a debatable description!), when I tried to look up Sorting in iTunes Help and got back window below, I was unable to go to any of the links. I'd get the hand/finger cursor but clicking did absolutely nothing.
Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Beth

Me, too. I used to be able to sort by name. But now the only option is "release date." What happened?
