Sorting podcasts

Ok I'm trying to learn more about photography and heard there were a ton of good podcasts in iTunes. Which there are. I'm going to be watching the video podcasts on my mac but I want some audio casts on my iphone so I can listen to them when I walk the dog and am driving.
Is there a way to separate the video podcasts from the audio ones in iTunes? There are so many its hard to go thru them all mixed up would be easier for me if I could separate video from audio.
Many thanks,
Susan

Yes I could but I don't think I made myself clear, I want to sort them in iTunes. There are so many and I'd like all the video podcasts in one place and all the audio in another. Can i do that in iTunes??
Thanks!!
Susan

  • Sort podcast by track name - yes or no?

A simple question for which I cannot find an answer. Does iTunes allow sorting PODCASTS by track name? From what I've read in the many convoluted questions and answers, apparently it cannot. Please let me know if I'm wrong.

    *Short answer:*
    No.
    *Longer answer:*
If you make a playlist and drag the podcasts into it then yes, you can sort them on any column that iTunes caters for, but you can't do it in the Podcasts section of your library
    *Even longer answer:*
Details of how to reconnect orphaned episodes and reorder tracks within a podcast should be in this older thread:

  • Sorting podcast on iPod by release date

I have been googling solution for this problem but none of the solution that people suggesting really works. So the problem is I can sort podcasts by release date in iTunes but on my iPod I cannot. iPod automatically sorts all the episodes by name which is not what I want. I need a chronical order.
Is there any way to sort podcasts by release dates on iPod touch?
    Thanks,

I'd also like to be able to sort contacts by Business->User (like iTunes does with albums->songs).
Address Book also needs some kind of "Business"-merging of all people inside a single business (so we don't have to repeat all information such as fax, URL, address, etc).

  • Sort Podcasts by release date

Is there anyway to sort podcasts by reverse relase date?  I have many podcasts.  By default, they are sorted with the most recent first.  When I listen to them I can either listen to them individually, oldest first, which is a pain because I have to manually select them, or put them in a playlist.  When in the playlist, they play by most recent first, which is also a pain because I hear episode 7 before episode 6, etc.
I want to be able to listen to the oldest podcast first!
    Anybody have any ideas?

Why not actually fix "shuffle" for podcast smart playlists?????

  • Sorting podcasts on Ipod nano 3rd

Is there a way to sort podcasts from oldest to newest, instead of the newest to oldest that it is currently set on? While I am working sometimes I am not able to switch to newest podcast before it automatically goes to the older one, so this would really help me out.
    Thanks.

Here is my situation. I downloaded some podcasts from iTunes on my PC. I transferred them to my Mac so I could put them on my iPod. Although they were poscasts, they were still mp3s. I dragged them onto my iPod into the main library and listened to them, but now I can't delete them!
When I plug my iPod up to update the library, they don't show up anywhere in the iPod library. But whwn the iPod is dosconnected, I can do a search and find them.
When I click the iPod icon in iTunes and look at the disk usage, there are somethings taking up space as "other", around 138 MB, but I now have no way to delete them. I don't have this problem with any other mp3's, just these two that were Podcasts.
Short of restoring the entire iPod and deleting everything, how can I delete these stupid MP3's.

  • In itunes 11.0.5, suddenly can't sort podcasts by number, only by release date (under view options). Help!

To look for duplicate podcasts, I often sort by number. But all of a sudden, that option has gone.

Me, too. I used to be able to sort by name. But now the only option is "release date." What happened?

  • IPhone No Longer Sorts Podcasts By Release Date After 3.1 Update

After upgrading to iPhone OS 3.1 and iTunes 9.0(70) Podcasts on the iPhone no longer sort according to their release date. The ordering is definitely not alphabetical or any of the other user selectable sorting options. If I had to guess I'd say it's sorting them by reverse download order (which when you update less frequently than once a day is quite confusing since iTunes downloads most recent first). Is this a problem with the iPhone OS, iTunes or an option that I'm missing somewhere (the iTunes podcast tab is set to sort by release date).

I'm thinking this is not a iphone 3.1 upgrade issue, as the only thing I have upgraded is to iTunes 9 and I am having the exact same problem. After upgrading my phone did lock up really bad. The screen was on, was showing slide to unlock but was totally unresponsive to the home and sleep buttos. Plugging it back into the computer also did nothing. I had to hard restart it with the home and sleep button in sych.
My Podcasts have no sorting capability what so ever. There is no logical reason they are so jumbled up.

  • How to sort podcast search results in iTunes11?

After searching for podcasts I was able to sort them by video or audio. In iTunes11 I cannot find this option.
    Is it gone?

    Carolyn,
it was a typo: i'm on 10.6, on a MacPro.
i've actually found that it's actually, incredibly, impossible to sort spotlight results by size when in list view (it is possible when in icon view).
I find this nothing short than absurd, i would appreciate if Apple could explain me:
1- Why are they publicly talking about this wonderful new feature in their Snow Leopard pages, thus implcitily admitting that is something useful, and not making it useful where it would be used most: list view of the finder.
2- How am i supposed, for example, to find out between thousands of files which ones are, say, above 10MB, which is a typical task one would do when cleaning up space.
The answer is that i will simply have to use Houdaspot because the "most advanced operating system" does not let me know how big my files are.
    Im really ****** off.

  • Sorting podcasts by average user rating?

When I do a search of podcasts I'd like to be able to sort by average user rating rather than 'popularity' (which I assume means how many people have subscribed in total).
Why you may wonder? Well I'm more interested in a podcast that's fairly new but has a 5 star rating (e.g. Mac OS Ken) than an old one that used to be good but has gone downhill so bad that it has a 2 star rating.

You could create a smart playlist that contains all your podcasts and then sort that by rating.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can I sort podcasts by country?

In the "Podcast" page of my iTunes store there is a section called "What's hot" which contains podcasts from the following countries: Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain, Ireland, Denmark and Belgium.
Is it possible to see podcasts from other countries such as France, Germany, UK without searching them manually? How can I do it?
      Other OS   Windows Vista

For sure. That is a life saver for me till I get a Sort by Author option on the Right Most menu. Currently when I need to find a book by its author I click the middle selection which does not sort books by the Author but gives me the option to see all the books by each author in my Library. Thing is I can not organize me Book Rack sorted by the author. I can organize it by the Title. Or I can organize it Manually, now that is a huge job. Not worth the time it will consume.
    Many thanks for your attention.
Hoping Apple will give us "Sort by Author" option in the right-most button and the Sort option in the View menu; along with the existing Purchases, Title and Manual options.

  • Sorting podcasts OUT of smart playlists

I keep a "recently added" list but it also pulls in new podcasts, I don't see "podcast" as one of the criteria you can sort with ... how do I keep my music and podcasts separate? thanks

Right click - Edit the *Recently added* playlist.
    Add criteria
    Playlist is Music.
    This will show ONLY music.
Or add *Podcast is not True*.
This will show everything except podcasts.

  • Can't sort Podcasts xcpt by Release Date since upgrading to 11.0.4

I'm on a Macbook Pro running OSX 10.6.8. Since upgrading to iTunes 11.0.4 I'm unable to sort my Podcasts by any criteria but Release Date. I'd like to be able to sort them (as I have in the past) by rating. I've tried by clicking at the top of the Rating column - no luck - as well as by using Show View Options under the View menu. Oddly enough, I am able to sort by the Rating column in Music.
Another anomaly since "upgrading" (a debatable description!), when I tried to look up Sorting in iTunes Help and got back window below, I was unable to go to any of the links. I'd get the hand/finger cursor but clicking did absolutely nothing.
Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Beth

Me, too. I used to be able to sort by name. But now the only option is "release date." What happened?

  • Sort Podcasts in Chronological order (oldest first)?

How do i sort my podcasts in chronological order (oldest first)? The default is reverse chronological order (most recent first).
I am able to do this in iTunes on my Mac. But this does not translate to my iPod after a synch.

    Hi, welcome to Apple Discussions.
This isn't configurable on the iPod. Reverse date order is what you get. You can however make playlists with the tracks in a different order.

  • Sort Podcasts By Alphabetical Order in Main Menu

How do you sort the Main Menu of the Podcasts app in alphabetical order?  Mine only sorts the podcasts in the order that I subscribed to them, from newest to oldest.  Is there any way to sorth them alphabetically other than manually?
I have looked at the options in the app and in the Settings menu, but there are not choices availalbe. Any ideas?  Thanks.

In list view - click the "Album" heading to sort in ascending or descending order
In Album view - press Cmd+j for view options. Select Sort by: Title

  • Sorting podcasts by date on Ipod on 4G Ipod

I am wondering if there is anyway to change the playing sort order of my podcasts on my ipod. I can sort by Release Date in Itunes so the oldest ones are on top and play before the newer ones. On my Ipod, I would like it to do the exact same thing. In addition, I can only get my ipod to play the newest episode in the podcast and not move on to the next one. (IE, I want to start listening to the January release date ones then February release date ones without touching my Ipod.) Some of the February ones finished downloading before the January ones so date added sort doesn't work. I know smart playlists can do this, but seems like the Ipod should be able to do it without the hassle.

When you go to Cover Flow you can scroll though the albums which are already sorted by the artists.
