Sorting Question iTunes 11

This may be a bug, this may be me doing something incorrect.
I have a CD that is a compilation of music from the 80s.  I want to have it come up in iTunes as a single album in Album view, but when I look at Artist view, I would like the songs to be listed with the artists.  I can't seem to make that happen.
If I put the name of the Album in for Album and Album Artist, but list each song's Artist correctly, the songs will be grouped correctly as a single album in Album View, but they will not be grouped by their artist in Artist view. And, on my iPod and iPhone, the songs will not appear with their artists in Artist view.
If I change the Album Artist to the name of each song's artist, the songs will not be grouped as a single album in Album view, but will group with their individual artists.
I have tried changing the view options and checking and unchecking the Compilation settings, but I haven't found the magic setting.
Any suggestions?

Actually I have thought in the same way, but it is not.
They are being played as-is in the list, and not alphabetically (random is unchecked).
However, when I copy the same album into iPhone, the tracks are automatically organized alphabeticallt, and played in the proper order.

  • Last sorting question Itunes!?

    Hi there,
I haven't really found the answer i was looking for in this support community. Hopefully someone has the right answer for me. Sorry for the image being Dutch, but i will explain in English.
The thing i want to do is:
    1. Being able to see a various artists album in one group (1 coverflow). This i know how to do, on the left side of the image you'll see.
Naam = name or title if you like
    Artiest = artist
Album-artiest = album artist (by keeping this in format of Various Artists, this keeps the album ''together'' as one cover)
    Album = Album
    On the right side
Naamsortering = name sorting (obvious blank, since there are multiple titles in this album, otherwise it sorts no more on the artist which i prefer instead of                          title order)
Artiestsortering = Artistsort (here i copied the artistname, so in the artist list it sort there on alfabetical order) Doesn't work btw see part 2 of my question.
Albumartiest-sortering = (here again i copied the artistname, so when you view a album it sorts the tracks on artist order, i like that!)
Albumsortering = albumsort (this is for sorting the album between other albums on alfabetical order)
So i think i got this end covered. Now for part two.
    2. Search on my Apple TV within artist for example: ''Ultravox'' (see picture above).
The problem i'm having here is that this artist ''Ultravox'' couldn't be found by the search query of my Apple TV. Why is that? I stated that the Artist is named ''Ultravox'', but never the less it can't be found unless i change the album-artist field into ''Ultravox''. But this looses the keeping the album ''together'' as one cover.
So could anyone tell me if its possible to maintain the various artist album and still be able to search for an artist in this album on a Apple tv?
Already many thanks in advance for your time and help

Ah, that's the same fix as I describe in One album, still too many covers. I've no idea why iTunes does this one either. Funnily enough it seems to happen sometimes when I rename an existing album which is properly grouped so I know the values must be consistent because I've only just changed them, and did so all at the same time.

  • Itunes music sorting question, itunes is sorting part of a cd incorrectly

ok here's the problem. I just imported a cd onto my itunes music file. it was originally filed as two cd's, one with the regular cd, the second with four bonus tracks that were released on various versions of the particular cd. this is what happened. itunes put the regular cd with the other cd's I have by the artist, but the bonus songs? they were stored in a new list, same band name, in an unalphabetized location on my itunes browser. the band is called "10 years" and the regular cd is, like I stated above, filed with the rest of the ten years tracks, but the bonus material? it's stored near the top of my artist list in a now new label that says ten years. i selected all the files for the cd, put them in as one cd, with one cd title, all filed as (correct track number) of 17 tracks, and its still sorting them separately. so in summation, the regular cd's 13 tracks are filed with the rest of the ten years tracks, but the bonus songs are filed in an all new ten years artist label at the top of my artist list, instead of at the bottom where the band names that start with numbers are stored. in the six or so years i've used i tunes this has never happened. i've imported hundreds upon hundreds of cd's into itunes and this has NEVAR happened. I tried deleting the cd, after it was correctly labeled and then re importing it but to the same no effect. it still files them separately, and incorrectly i must add. lastly, the actual file location of the tracks is correct. they're all in my ten years file, all in one folder under the cd title. when i select the "correct" ten years file on my itunes browser all the songs are listed, but the bonus songs are above the regular songs on the list. so track 1-13 are UNDER track 14-17. now I know its not a big "problem" but it IS quite frustrating. I'm a little OCD about my music and dont want anything out of order or mislabeled, etc. if you have ANY idea what is causing this issue please help. i would appreciate it.

  • Sorting question over state...

    Hi there,
Anyone know where you amend the over state / hover of an option in a sorting question ???
Been looking in the object style manager but can't find it in there...
    Thanks in advance...

You are talking about the partially transparent grey bar that appears when hovering over an answer in the Sequence type of questions. There is no style that can be customized AFAIK. It is not even changing with the included themes. Same is valid for the connecting lines in matching questions that are always black, color cannot be changed for them neither. It is a pity, would recommend you enter a feature request to be able to customize the color of both the hover bar and those lines.

Hello Abe retrieve answers to security questions itunes account knowing I do not have an alternate email

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

  • Secondary sort in itunes

How do I use a secondary sort in itunes so not only does my list show the artist in alphabetical order, the albums show in chronological as well?
and can I use Album Artist to sort by last name so I don't have to retype the artist's name so that their last name is listed first in the main itunes window?
    thanks!

    Chris CA wrote:
Or you can simply sort on Album by Year. Click the Album column header to switch between Album > Album by Artist > Album by Year then back to Album
This will sort albums by artist by year.
Yes, but while that is indeed true it's of very limited use as it ONLY applies to the list of tracks currently in the main window. Whereas, if you set up your 'Sort Album' tag/field as I suggest, the list of albums in the 'browse' list at the top (or side) for the selected artist will also be sorted chronologically and there is NO other way to achieve that.
This chronological sort will also carry over onto the iPods and TVs so almost everywhere you use your music, an Artist's Albums will be sorted chronologically, which as I already opined, is the ONLY way they should be sorted. Just remember to NOT add the date in that way to compilations. This ensures they are grouped together at the top of the Album list for that Artist rather than simply muddling up the list. Mind you, if you do also want them chronologically sorted, you can have that too
I understand that it is a lot of work to convert a large library of music. With over 1000 CDs it has taken me a long time to achieve an acceptable display for them all, but now, it's a simple matter of adjusting the tags on any new CD I import and that takes only seconds for each one, so it's no longer a big deal. Of course, others may not wish to put in that much effort, but at least I can show that there is a way to achieve it, if you really want.

  • Multiple Column Sorting in iTunes

I have seen many conversations around the edges of this, but no answers.  I am curious if it is possible to configure a custom sort in iTunes involving multiple columns.
Here is what I would like to end up with - Artist; Sort Show (where I have stored the release date); Album; Disk Number; Track Number.  Seeing my albums in chronological order is the way I always sorted physical albums, I would like to store my virtual ones the same way.  iTunes allows me to use Album by Artist and then sort by Sort Show, but this then displays the tracks in alphabetic order by name!
Identifying multiple sort columns (as in Excel) would be ideal.  Thanks for any help you can provide.
    Dave

It is a database internally, and there are some multivalued sorts, but as users we don't get to specify custom sort orders. Album by Artist is more properly Album by Album Artist and in pseudo-SQL it would go something like this.
SELECT * FROM Selection ORDER BY SortAlbumArtist, SortAlbum, Disc# , Track#
Where there is no SortAlbumArtist it is inferred from the first non-empty value of AlbumArtist, SortArtist or Artist.
Where there is no SortAlbum it is inferred from Album.
The Disc# & Track# sorts place empties last.
Presumably the designers think they've included useful options and adding nested sorting features would be too complicated, but you can make suggestions via iTunes Feedback.

  • Security questions iTunes

If you think this is truely security..really..it asks for two favorite consumer products and a city you romanticize, and wants your other email info. Thats data mining.
Mind you, does your employer want to know what "car" and "city" and "album" you made out to for net security? My favorite teacher as well?
These "security" questions appear to be data mining or vague personal info that anyone that graduated from high school with me would know. I contacted my State Attorny General. Answering any of them would actually put my account at risk.
I love my itunes. I guess my consumer loyality has done nothing. And I really have no other choice of practical products to replace it with. I have a question itunes..are we walking up to the edge of anti-trust laws?

  • ITunes sorting question - album art

    Hi,
I currently have my itunes setup whereby it shows the album art for each album (this is the third possible viewpoint, of the four that you can select).
The trouble is, some of my albums have multiple singers in them (e.g compilation albums).
So, if I "sort albums by title", I get multiple versions of the same album art in a row, one for each singer. If I click the album art, only that one song comes up, rather than all the songs in the album.
In other words, I just want each album art to show ONCE, and for all the songs in that album to be displayed when I click on that album art. This works fine if the album has just the one singer on it, but if it has multiple singers, the problem above occurs.
Is there any way I can fix this?
    Thanks

Setting the Album Artist will fix most of the problem, but for more information see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums in particular the topic One album, too many covers.

  • Sort in iTunes 10 column "Album Artist"

    Hello,
I have a question regarding the sorting options in the iTunes Library. I have add a couple of albums which I have tagged accurately.
If I sort by "Album by artist" it goes correct. It shows the albums sorted by artist.
If I sort by "Album artist" it goes more or less correct. The fact that I say "more or less" means I have a strange situation:
I do have a album which has 1 album artist (which is also the artist), however 1 song of this album is sorted as a seperated album.
Does anybody can help me out?
    Thanks so mucl
    Paul

  • Sorting questions; albums together within genres?

    Hi!
I have some questions concerning the way iTunes sorts my Library.
I'd like it to sort the classical section on composer, instead of artist. My library is sorted on Genre primary, and perhaps it's impossible to sort only one genre on Genre-Composer-Album . If so, I'll accept that.
However, this next one should be possible in some way:
How do I get iTunes to keep tha different albums sorted together in Soundtrack genre? For instance, the Buffy Ultimate Album keeps getting mixed up with Lock Stock and Two smoking barrells album, despite that I've checked "part of a collection" and entered specific CD track numbers for every one of the tracks. I even tried entering "Buffy ultimate soundtrack" into the Grouping field. What does that one do if not keep them together?
    Help please...

How do I get iTunes to keep tha different albums sorted together in Soundtrack genre?
I would really like to know the same thing!!!! I have a lot of movies and B'Way soundtracks that I would like to peruse by album title. It seems the ipod only lets me browse by song and I agree, they all get jumbled together.
I am now in the process of dragging them all into a soundtracks playlist, which is a little better because at least the songs stay in the right order. I would love to be able to drag the album title into the playlist and then go onto the next song list screen from there.
I am going to suggest it on the feedback page.
I hope someone can shed some light on what can be done about this.

Well, it's hard to say how they were encoded if you didn't do it yourself . . . there's no way to fix it within iTunes.
