Sorting songs by title Numerically?

Is there any way when sorting by song title, to sort Numerically, rather than Alphabetically?
For instance voice memos will appear in the following order:
10/21/2011
10/6/2011
12/14/2011
12/15/2011
12/3/2011
4/29/2011
5/13/2011
5/17/2011
Instead I'd like them to sort properly by date. Is this possible?

Change the dates so that they're all in the format yyyy/mm/dd. The files can then be sorted alphabetically which will put them in sequence by date.
Don't skip digits. January third 2012 is 2012/01/03, not 12/1/3.

Why can't I sort songs with !'s next to titles (meaning these songs don't exist in Library but actually do)? I really don't want to scroll through 5,000 titles to remove these items.

    Hi mitzlet,
When tracks in iTunes display a it means the file cannot be located; it may have been moved or deleted. For this issue, we will need to refer to the following article:

Alternatively, if your media was downloaded from the iTunes Store, you may be able to download it again free of charge:

  • How do I get itunes to sort songs the same way my ipod does, without renaming the songs?

Itunes and my ipod use different algorithms when sorting songs.  Here are a few examples:
In itunes, apostrophes come before spaces/other characters  ("It's Good to Be King" comes before "It Keeps You Runnin'" and "You're an Original" comes before "You Better You Bet."  In my ipod, apostrophes come after spaces/other characters.
In itunes, numerical song titles are sorted by the first number, then the second, and so on (18, 1983, 2112, 25, 3).  In my ipod, numerical song titles are sorted in ascending numerical order (3, 18, 25, 1983, 2112).
The order is relevant for two reasons.  One, I like the sound of the song flow generated by my ipod's sorting better than the one generated by itunes.  Two, I use play count to determine whether or not to keep a song on my playlist (songs that I skip over repeatedly get cut entirely) and the changing song order tends to mess up the play count.
So, other than going in and changing the names of the songs, is there some way to make itunes behave like my ipod?

I deal with the numeric ordering by padding out the sort fields with leading zeros. iTunes used to sort numbers by value but it seems the code for that got removed at some point and hasn't been replaced. You should be able to use sort values to achieve some consistency between the two views of your media.

  • How can I sort songs by song name?

After updating my iPad, I lost the ability to sort songs by song title.  How can I get this back?  Also, when synching not all of my Playlists are exported to my iPad.  Is there also a fix for this?

    Hi Jim,
I tried both things suggested and neither worked.  This just happened after updating.
Like thousands of others, I got an error message MSVCR80, and had to delete all Apple programs from my desktop and re-load iTunes. Since updating, nothing iTunes related has operated properly on my iPad, or Desktop.
Very frustrating.  A service request to Apple results in a charge for service.  Very unfair since it is their own update that is causing the issues.
    Thanks for the suggestions.

  • Can not sort by album title in cover flow. I'm going crazy!

I own a LOT of trance music compilations that come in packs of 3 cds. Coverflow only seems to sort by Artist name, and in my music collection each cd from the came compilation might start with a different artist, resulting in the 3 parts of the same album being scattered all over cover flow because of the varying artists.
Is there ANY way possible to make cover flow sort by album title only? PLEASE! I want to use this feature, but its pretty annoying for my type of music collection.

Well I have learned a little bit that helps. I discovered that I can highlight all of say Disc 1 in a compilation, and then right click on the selections and select Get Info. From here, I can flag all the songs as part of a compilation. Then I would do the same for Disc 2, and so on. This resulted in each CD component of an album getting grouped together in Coverflow, though albums that are not compilations ruin the alphabetical flow.
At least now my Disc 1, Disc 2 and Disc 3 of the compilations are next to each other, and not scattered all over, even if there is still no alphabetical order by album.

  • Sorting songs by 'Album by Artist/Year' bug in iTunes 9.0

As the title suggests, there is a massive bug in the new iTunes when sorting songs by 'Album by Artist/Year.'
Pretty much, it is not separating different discs from the same album. In a 2 disc CD, it goes like this:
    Disc 1, Track 1
    Disc 2, Track 1
    Disc 1, Track 2
    Disc 2, Track 2
It is extremely annoying, a major oversight from Apple.
    I have attached a screenshot: http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/3134/itunesbug.jpg

    Hello,
As far as I can see, you can't sort the order of music on the iPod Touch. It is always sorted alphabetically.
Maybe you can suggest that as a feature to Apple.

  • In iPhoto if I select View, then Sort Photos by title, how do I stop it reverting to sorting by date when I close iPhoto and re-open it later?

In iPhoto if I select View, then Sort Photos by title, how do I stop it reverting to sorting by date when I close iPhoto and re-open it later?

In what mode, Events, Photos or in an Album, are you when you select View ➙ Sort ➙ By Title?
As a first fix attempt try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Why can I no longer sort songs by popularity?

Why can I no longer sort songs by popularity?

It seems this is a "backwards" upgrade from Apple in their iTunes 11 release....like you, I used to use that function in the iTunes store to sort through and decide which song version to purchase.   (For a large returned list of songs...see all...then sort by any of the headers, including Popularity...this functionality is now gone.)
The iPad always suffered from this...was never able to sort on those same column headers with an iPad.   It seems, this new iTunes release killed that functionality on the Mac as well.
Just one of the few things that went wrong with number 11!
    Better luck next time,

  • Is it possible to sort songs after using iTunes Match?

When I used iTunes to sync my songs previously, everything's fine because I can do all in iTunes then press sync.
But with the use of iTunes Match, everything seems automatically done through the "cloud".
I can't even rearrange the order of my songs, like sorted by artists or names of the songs.
It's pretty a mess when viewing my playlist, the songs are disordered.
Is it the fact that we can't sort songs?
    Thanks.

I didn't say "re-create" I said "restore from a backup." Restoring from a backup will place all the files just as they were right back where they need to be. This includes the .itl, .itdb ad .xml files iTunes needs to recognize that the files on the internal HDD are the same as the files in the cloud.
You do have a backup, don't you? If you don't then I strongly recommend you start backing up immediately.
If all else fails you can email iTunes Store support and ask them to reset your iTunes Match DB on the server. This will require your iTunes to go through the entire scan, match and upload process as if it were the first time.

  • Sort songs into date transfered on vision

is there anyway to sort songs, into when they were transfered onto the player, if that makes sence.oye and is there anyway to get windows task manager up without using ctrl+alt+del?thnx alot

Hey, I have the exact same problem... It's very frustrating, because no matter what intelligent sorting you use, iOS 7 will end up using the numerotation sort.
I found a way to still have it sorted, it's easy but could be much easier if iOS 7 behaved as iOS 6: all you need to do is sort your playlist in iTunes, as you would do normally, but this time, you then have to right click on the playlist. There should be an option like "copy to play order". What it does is re-index the numbers so that they match your playlist sorting. This way, even your iPhone will have this order. The bummer is it won't do it automatically. So say you wanted to sort by rating, every time you add/change rating, you will have to click on that option again. That s***ks a lot. I have iTunes Match with a lot of music, and it's a pain not to have it sorted.
Anyway, even if it can help, I seriously hope there is a better way to do it.

  • Playlists containing songs with titles starting with non-alphabetical characters do not get transferred at all

I was really happy about how the desktop manager lets me choose the songs from my itunes library by playlists! this is smart! I'm also happy to see the playbook render asian characters properly (unlike my experience on the bold!)
However, I have a lot of songs which have titles that begin with non-alphabetical characters, ie asian characters. For all playlists which contains such songs, those songs do not get transferred onto the playbook AT ALL. For example, I have one playlist which contains only songs with titles beginning with asian characters - this playlist was transferred but it is shown as containing zero songs! When I browse my song library by artist/album, I can find all those songs that should be in that/those playlists.
    Can this be fixed?
    thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

as it turns out, it kind of got fixed by itself. what i did (i think, since i have not definitively verified) was i went to browse "all songs" wherein i noticed all thoses songs starting with asian characters seemed to show correctly. then i went back to the playlists in question, and viola!
clearly there is a bug or two in the music player somewhere regarding these title characters. but rim has more urgent things to resolve i guess - like my auto screen lock is still not working!

  • "View- Sort Photos- By Title" produces WRONG sorting order!

    Hello,
I have a set of pictures named Scan 1.jpg, Scan 2.jpg, Scan 3.jpg, etc... up to Scan 102.jpg
They all belong to the same "Event" in iPhoto.
When I am inside that Event, I need them to be sorted by their name (Scan 1, Scan 2, Scan 3, etc).
So I choose the option: View->Sort Photos->By Title
However, that shows pictures in the wrong order, as follows: Scan 1, Scan 10, Scan 100, Scan 101, Scan 102, Scan 11, Scan 12, Scan 13, etc, Scan 19, Scan 2, Scan 20, Scan 21, Scan 21, etc... The logic is clear but it is wrong!
Finder recognizes the correct order of files, named in such way, so why doesn't iPhoto?!
Please suggest if you have any solutions OTHER than renaming the original files to Scan 001, Scan 002, etc. I assume that would work, but I really would hate to spend time on renaming. There must be an easier way. I am surprised that iPhoto makes this mistake in the first place - I remember coming across this issue during Windows Explorer times. When I switched to Mac it was a pleasant surprise that Finder understands in such situations that the order should be 1, 2 3, 4, 5 etc and not 1, 10, 100, 11, 110, 111, 12, etc. What a disappointment to bump into that bug in iPhoto! I hope there is a solution. Please advise!
    Thanks everyone in advance.

That's been an issue with several apps for a while. You can batch rename the titles in iPhoto using the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Title to Text menu option with the check box checked to add a sequential number to each photo.
You can always revert back to the original file name using the same menu option.

  • How do I get my iPad 3rd Gen to sort Music album titles under an artist's name alphabetically instead of chronologically?

    Hey all,
I've been trying to sort my iPad Music app. Under an Artist, albums are sorted chronologically, not alphabetically. As a result, albums without a year attached to them are shuffled to the top, and the rest are put at the end of my music library. Half of the albums under one artists do not have a year with them so my whole library is out of order. How do I get my albums to sort alphabetically by title?
    BQ

The large text size makes your post almost impossible to read.
Excessive use of bold or capitals (also) makes posts difficult to read.
You can drag most of the column headings left or right, or right-click on the header to turn columns on or off.
Once you've used File > Display Duplicates or Shift > File > Display Exact Duplicates you can use File > Display All or the Display All button at the bottom of the list to restore the display.
For general advice on organising your library see this article on Grouping tracks into albums.

  • Iphoto 11 not sorting events by titles.

I'm using Iphoto 11.  I have grouped photos (different souces iphone and 2 digital cameras) by events that are all named with the following template:
YYYY.MM.JJ - Title of the event
For some other events that I wanted to always be "on top" of all the others were names differently:
    00 - Title event
    * Title of the event *
Regardless of the way I name the event it is not sorting correctly.  For instance I have 2 events called:
    00 - Cat
    00 - Dog
Logically they should be next to each other is sorted by title... Why it is not sorting.  Can anyone help? Thanks

I used Sort Events > By Title (or By Date)
But I try to avoid Manually sorting, beacause i read so many posts by other users with issues of sorting being lost and have to to do it again.  therefor thats why I choose a sorting option that shoulds always work with automatic sorting (date or title) evan if someone "accidentaly" switch it to manual.
*** The only way to have it work and sort again correctly (i just found this) is to add an other photo to the event and then it sort again... What is wrong with my Iphoto??

  • Unable to sort songs on iPad or iPod in iTunes

I used to be able to sort songs on my iPod using the column browser in iTunes; I recently got an iPad and noticed that the column browser option was greyed out. I puzzled over this for a bit but didn't mind since I don't listen to music from the iPad. However, I noticed a few days ago that the column browser is no longer available for music on my iPod either.
I know that to get the column browser option one must click on the "songs" tab near the top of the itunes window - but I don't have that table. The whole line with "Songs/Albums/Artists/Genres/Radio/Match" is gone. It's available for music on my computer, in my itunes library - but not for anything on the iPod or iPad.
I'm using an iPod classic, so I've got a huge amount of music there - not being able to sort using the column browser is a huge pain the boot!
    Any tips?
