Sorting songs into albums

My itunes has decided to sort my songs alphabetically, overnight! How to I sort them back into albums? jennifer

Click at the top of Album column in your library view. If you click on it, it will toggle between displaying Album, Album by Artist and Album by Year, stop at whichever one you want. Then click on the black triangle to get the sort order you want (A to Z or Z to A).

is there anyway to sort songs, into when they were transfered onto the player, if that makes sence.oye and is there anyway to get windows task manager up without using ctrl+alt+del?thnx alot

Hey, I have the exact same problem... It's very frustrating, because no matter what intelligent sorting you use, iOS 7 will end up using the numerotation sort.
I found a way to still have it sorted, it's easy but could be much easier if iOS 7 behaved as iOS 6: all you need to do is sort your playlist in iTunes, as you would do normally, but this time, you then have to right click on the playlist. There should be an option like "copy to play order". What it does is re-index the numbers so that they match your playlist sorting. This way, even your iPhone will have this order. The bummer is it won't do it automatically. So say you wanted to sort by rating, every time you add/change rating, you will have to click on that option again. That s***ks a lot. I have iTunes Match with a lot of music, and it's a pain not to have it sorted.
Anyway, even if it can help, I seriously hope there is a better way to do it.

  • Sorting songs by 'Album by Artist/Year' bug in iTunes 9.0

As the title suggests, there is a massive bug in the new iTunes when sorting songs by 'Album by Artist/Year.'
Pretty much, it is not separating different discs from the same album. In a 2 disc CD, it goes like this:
    Disc 1, Track 1
    Disc 2, Track 1
    Disc 1, Track 2
    Disc 2, Track 2
It is extremely annoying, a major oversight from Apple.

    Hello,
As far as I can see, you can't sort the order of music on the iPod Touch. It is always sorted alphabetically.
Maybe you can suggest that as a feature to Apple.

  • Sorting Songs By Album!!!

I have transferred my music from windows to Itunes BUT, I have 10 albums for 50cent, each album only containg one song!!! IS THERE A WAY I CAN HAVE MY MUSIC IN CORRECT ALBUMS?? This is without having to do it individually to each song, can I wipe all music in ITUNES and recopy them so it sorts it into its albums like in windows AND NOT BY ARTIST? As you can imagine, this has occured on most of my albums not to mention complinations!! PLEASE HELP!

In general iTunes will always use artist first not album. To get around this there are several options:
Fill in album artist - this overrides artist info, album stored using album artist
Set as compilation - files will store under compilation/album
Edit tags - remove information causing iTunes to sort the way you don't want, most often due to different artists in artist tag
I tend to use album artist method instead of compilation except when album is truly a compilation of different artists (soundtracks).

  • How to sort songs by Album artist and song number?

    System: +OS X 10.5 updated to 10.5.2 . iTunes 7.6+
I have a CD "+Cafe Del Mar - Volume 01+". Added songs to Library. Every track has different Artist. So, I have 12 songs with individual Name and Artist. Then have put value "+Volume 01+" as Album in File Info and Album Artist as "+Cafe Del Mar+". This way songs are automatically grouped together whenever I sort my library by Album or Album Artist.
Unfortunately in latter case (sorting by Album Artist) iTunes uses Artist field instead of Song Number within the Album to sort tracks. Here are links to screenshots I made to show what we are talking about here:
    Sorting by Album: http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/7783/picture1qj6.jpg
    Sorting by Album Artist: http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/4199/picture2uo9.jpg
How can I fix it and make iTunes to sort by Track Number within the same album even if I sort things by Album Artist?
    Thanks.

How to use iTunes 7 new Album Artist field

iTunes 7 thinks of an album by a performer (call the performer XYZ), where one or more tracks are by "XYZ featuring ABC" or "XYZ and ABC," as separate albums. In the past, the only workaround was to set the album as a compilation to avoid this, but this is an incomplete solution, and it had the side effect of the album not being classified or filed properly.
Enter the "Album Artist" tag in iTunes 7. Set this tag (via Get Info with all all tracks of the album selected) to the main artist's name, and the album will be unified.

  • How can I sort photos into albums on my iPad and then export them to my iMac?

I want to import photos from my camera card into my iPad, sort them into various albums then export the albums to my iMac. I have 12 albums in Photos with around 300 photos on my iPad, but when I connect it to my iMac iPhoto tries to import all of the 1800 photos without the album structure. How do I transfer the albums and the 300 photos in them to my iMac?

Yes, but the recipient may not be getting the full image file that was used to make the Shared Photo Stream. You would have to run a test to see if there's any reduction in the image and file size. The following is from iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ
What resolution are the photos in shared photo streams?
Shared Photo Streams deliver photos in a device-optimized resolution that speeds upload and downloads and saves storage space. While actual dimensions will vary, an optimized version of a photo taken by a standard point-and-shoot camera will have a 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution. Panoramic photos can be up to 5400 pixels wide.

  • Is there a way to sort songs into alphabetical order under artist as opposed to being grouped by album?

    Hi all.
After a long overdue update to my ipod touch I've noticed that when I select an artist my songs are now grouped by album as opposed to alphabetically. Wondering if its possible to change this as I cant find any options or information on this myself.
    Thanks.

If you find the music sorting order as annoying as I think most people do, let apple know at:

  • Sorting songs/artists/albums by "the"

Is there a way to sort my songs, albums, artists, and videos by including "the" as an actual word? Right now, iPod sorts by the word after "the." It gets a little confusing when speed scrolling through the list and it jumps from letters in order to T and back because although it's not sorting the t, it recognizes the song starts with a t. Does that make sense? Is there a prefernce setting for that? thanks

The view you have there suggests that albums are being sorted by Artist, but the Heavy Hands album (by Volcanoes) appears to be listed with the entires for the letter H, or G. So check that album again, and look at the Sort Album option, is there a problem there?
If you select the complete album, and use File/Get Info/Sorting, check the boxes for Sort Artist and Sort Album Artist, make sure that the information is in there and that it is correct. If the boxes are blank, it could be because there is conflicting information in each track. In other words, one track has Volcanoes and another track has HVolcanoes in error.
So it will be quicker to select the complete album and enter Volcanoes in Sort Artist and Sort Album Artist than to look at each track.

  • How to replace wandering songs into albums?

After a migration to a new iMac that didn't go well, iTunes was in chaos with most tracks duplicated. Thanks to "TidyUp!" software, that's now fixed and I've gone to 10.1.2 -- all's well except several albums seem to have broken up (as it were) with their songs scattered all around.
Is there a simple way to put things right?

    Gosh, tt2 -- I owe you a "solved."
It's because of the way I went about applying your advice. I first followed your link which says:
    +Use an album friendly view+
+iTunes will let you sort music on many columns, some of which are unlikely to group albums together or put the tracks in their normal order. The most useful order for editing the library is probably the List View (or Album List view in iTunes 10.x) organised as Album by Artist. If you're not already there, select the list view and click on the column heading for Album until it reads Album by Artist.+
So I do that and the problem disappears. Which is just what you say in your second comment.
    Thanks again . . . fortes

  • After sorting photos into albums, the albums disappeared on me. I dragged and dropped the photos and went back to check that they were in place before exiting the program. When I went back, the folder was there but no albums. Help!

Working on an IMac - with IPhoto v.9.6
This is my first experience with IPhoto... trying to move files from a PC over to a Mac.
I don't have a ton of photos but I created about 6 albums - standard albums - and dragged and dropped individual photos into each of the albums. I named each of the albums as well so I would know what was in each. After i was finished, I created a folder called 2014 and moved each of the albums into that folder. Before moving ANY of the albums, I opened each of them up to make sure that all the photos I wanted in each were indeed there - and since there were some errors on my part, I deleted any duplicates first. SO, I KNOW the photos were actually in each of the albums BEFORE i moved them into the 2014 folder.
My intention was to then delete the photo files in my document file but once I got there I thought I would go back and double check the IPhoto file just to make sure... and the pictures were NOT in the albums where I had placed them... is there a need to save this before you move on and if so, to where and how? I was under the impression that once files were moved to albums, they remain there.
The photos are still in the photo library but unsorted now again... I cannot even open the 2014 folder at this point.
    Thanks for any help!!

Was back on IPhoto this morning. The folder did not open at all so I deleted it. Beside Albums, nothing showed at all. It was like I had done no work at all except to import my photo folder. Nothing was in my trash bin either.
I started again and created one album at a time. I dragged and dropped photos into the album and exited out of IPhoto, opened up other programs and then returned to IPhoto to see if the album was still there and it was this time. I created a second album and did the same thing. This time, for some reason, the albums seem to be staying in place. I am not doing anything differently than last time. After creating three albums, I created a folder called 2014 and dragged and dropped the three albums into the folder and exited IPhoto. They were still there when I returned - YEAH! It seems to be working - for now! I am keeping my fingers crossed that my photos are not going to disappear but I am not going to delete my photo folder from my files just in case!
Thanks for the suggestions but this may just have been a funny glitch... not sure what happened. I didn't change anything or do anything differently this time except that I am doing it one album at a time and exiting the program between creating each of them and coming back to check... very strange.

With using any version of iTunes, whenever I import songs into my library using the "add to library" function, iTunes adds those songs in songs' alphabetical order. This is pretty annoying since it does not preserve the logical track number or even the album sort order (for example when adding 2 albums stored in a unique folder). Anyone has any ideas ? Been stumped for a while....!!!

hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music'  then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo

  • ITunes merges unrelated songs into one album?

Hey all, I've tried repeatedly to fix this problem and haven't had any luck. I recently added an album to iTunes (11.4) and the following things happened:
    1) Under "albums" view, each song from the album had its own separate entry in albums (same album art and title, several entries with one song each).
    2) After I repeatedly consolidated them into one album, they finally stayed together...
    3) ...but suddenly 100+ other songs joined them in that album.
Now over a hundred of my songs are considered part of the same album--everything from Johnny Cash to Yoko Kanno is considered part of "Awesome Mix Vol. 1". I have no idea why these songs in particular were chosen, but whatever is happening overwrites their album information as well as their album art while leaving everything else intact. It's not even consistent regarding which albums it messes with--SOME of Abbey Road is now part of Awesome Mix while some is not.
I've changed the tags back a dozen times. I've even used a program like TuneUp to do so automatically. Every time I do so it eventually changes back--I think the Awesome Mix category is saved into iCloud or something. Has anyone encountered this before and can they suggest any fixes? I am going nuts. These are awesome songs, but they don't belong in Awesome Mix.

In iTunes an "album" is any collection of tracks with the same Album title and the same Album Artist, or Artist if Album Artist is blank, or for which Part of a compilation is true. This can be further complicated by inappropriate values in the various sort fields. See Grouping tracks into albums for more.

  • Accidentally dropped 600 songs into one album!!

I have accidentally dropped 600 songs - all from different albums - into one album. The only remaining meta data for each song left is the name. Is there a program or way I can get the songs to be arranged at least roughly into there previous album folders? Or is the only solution to go through each song individuelly and change the meta data like album name/artist etc?
    Tks for any suggestions!

  • Grouping songs into one album that are featuring someone else

Trying to clean up my iTunes library.  Some on my albums that I have ripped to my iMac have songs on the same album, but feature one or more other artist.  I'd like to find out the easiest way to get those songs into the same album group that they are from.  I've done one so far and edited the artist to just the original album artist, but I'd like to be able to see who else is on the track if possible.  Sort of knitpicking but that's me, thanks!!!

Quick answer:  Select all the tracks on the album, File > get info, and either give them all a single "album artist", or check the "compilation" flag (as in https://discussions.apple.com/message/17670085).  You can leave the artist there. Album artist will force it to sort by that.
If these are from multiple-CD sets you may also need to enter the appropriate information in the disc number fields.
