Sorting songs on iPod mini like in iTunes library

Can the library on my iPod mini be sorted by Sort Name like my iTunes library can? If so, how?

No, the sort options info does not carry over to the iPod.
The iPod sorts by album/artist only.

I have iPod Nano. My computer at home has an Itunes library. So does my computer at work. Can I transfer songs that I purchased at home onto my computer at work? If so, How? At work, I have tried to drag the songs that are listed under my iPod Music to my iTunes library, but it doesn't work.

    have you tried this article:

  • Ipod Mini not matching Itunes library

For some reason my Itunes library is not matching my ipod mini. More songs are on the mini. Is there a way to synch my library with my mini so I don't lose the songs from the mini?

If you have songs that are on your mini but not in the main library of iTunes you will have to use some third party software to copy those songs off the iPod and put them on your PC and in iTunes. go here

  • Songs in Ipod but not in itunes library. no option to back up so i can restore. Will someone please help me?

Ok, see, i was dowloading some songs off of http://www.youtube-mp3.org. I dragged the songs into my itunes library, but when i looked, they weren't in there. so i looked at my ipod and the songs i downloaded were on it! i dont know how either! i tried to back up my downloaded songs so i could restore it to see if that would help, but there wasn't an option for me to back up my ipod when i right clicked on it. i looked atsome of the other forums about the "AppData" solution. it said to delete the corrupted file if there was one, but i dont know what to look for. can someone please help me? this is driving me crazy.

  • Transfering songs from ipod to a new itunes library

my dad accidently deleted my itunes library and i dont know how to transfer the songs from my ipod to a new library without deleting the songs off my ipod. how do you transfer the songs from your ipod to the itunes library with the songs that were not purchased from itunes?

1). If your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that way you can continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • Trying to put songs from ipod into pc's itunes library

    hi all,
im trying to put the songs from my ipod onto my computer at work...a pc is this even possible? the computer has itunes on it, i log into my itunes account, and it recognizes my ipod (shows up under the device thing). i can see all my songs including ones ive purchased from itunes, but they are all a light gray color and i cannot select and play or anything. not even the ones bought from itunes!...all while logged in and "authorizing" the computer. can someone help? the farthest i get is itunes warning me that all songs on my ipod will be replaced with whats in the computers itunes library which is nothing.
looking forward to hearing from you guys

You've posted this in the "Mac OS X Technologies > iSync" forum.
iSync has nothing at all to do with iPods or Windows.

  • Moving songs from Ipod to newly installed Itunes library

The hard drive on my old computer died, so after I got a new laptop, I reinstalled Itunes from the CD I got with my nano, and then upgraded it to the latest version.
However it will not let me move music stored on my ipod into my library (which aside from a couple of recovered albums is empty as I lost all the music stored there) so I have the music stored on my Ipod and none of it in my Library.
I have tried copy and pasting and drag and dropping the songs, but the paste is greyed out and I get a not allowed circle when trying to drop into lib. Am I missing something really obvious?
    Any help would be great!

  • Cannot Delete Songs from IPOD MINI

I have read the instructions on this web site, yet my songs on my ipod are "shaded" when they show up on itunes, so I cannot remove unwanted songs from my IPOD. Anyone know what to do?
    Thanks

Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists". . If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer, add or delete etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and Playlists" in the iPod preferences. For more detail see this tutorial: Managing Your Songs Manually
One thing to be aware of with manually updating is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod
How you delete content from your iPod depends how you have it set to update:
When you are updating automatically you delete the files from the iTunes library and next time you connect they will automatically be deleted from your iPod.
If you are updating manually, connect your iPod and click on the icon when it shows in the iTunes source list. Find the files on your iPod that you want to remove, highlight them and delete directly from there.
To select multiple items such as all the songs in an album, click on the first track in the list hold down the shift key and click on the last track to highlight the selection. Then press the delete key.
To summarise, you start by highlighting the song/video/selection in either the iTunes library or on the iPod song list as displayed in iTunes then press the delete key on your keyboard: Deleting songs or playlists from your iPod
There are also a couple of ways that do not involved deleting from iTunes. The default iPod setting is automatically update with iTunes when connected. You can keep the automatically update setting and select "automatically update selected playlists only" then all you need to do is remove the song from the chosen playlist(s) and update, it remains in your library should you want to add it in future.
Another way but in my opinion more difficult to manage is to choose the "Only update checked songs" option in the iPod Preferences. By un-checking a song in iTunes, it will not be updated to the iPod and if already on the iPod, unchecking the song in iTunes will remove it from the iPod during the next update with iTunes.

  • HT1329 How can I get the songs on my iPod onto my new iTunes library?

I have an iPod that was synced to another iTunes library on another PC.  The PC died and I replaced it with a MacBook Pro but it keeps saying the iPod is synced w/ another iTunes library.  How can I get the songs on my iPod on the new iTunes library?

Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):
