Sorting source albums

Greetings,
I recently imported 3 folder of images to iphoto 5.04 and created albums. I dragged the albums into the source side of iphoto. I closed iphoto and the next time I opened it up, the albums were not listed. They are still in the iphoto library, but do not show up in the source view. I also rearranged the order of albums in the source view and that also reverted back. The only app added to my computer is Aperature. Thanks in advance for your help

Hi pix2go,
If you created albums, they would be created in the source window. I don't understand when you say you dragged them into the source side when they should already be there.
what were the exact steps you took?
Did you drag the folders from the desktop into the source pane to import them?
When you say you opened iPhoto and the Albums were not listed, but they were still in the library, I thinking you are really talking about rolls and not albums.
If you rearrange the albums in the source window, it should stick.

  • Turned "Sort by Album Artist" off on iPod Touch 5th Gen so individual artists on compilation albums will show up separately under "Artists" with no succuss.  This worked perfectly on my Ipod Touch 4th Gen.  Any Advice?

I have a 5th Gen iPod Touch.  It is running the latest iOS, and iTunes has the latest update.  I have many compilation albums that I imported from CD.  I want the individual artists and their associated song(s) to show up under "Artists."  I have turned off "Sort by Album Artist" in Settings.  This worked perfectly on my 4th Gen Touch.  Each artist from a compilation would show up under "Artists" with the correct song(s) showing, while still showing the whole compilation under "Albums."  Now, on my 5th Gen Touch, when I try to look at an artist from a compilation under "Artists,"  I get one of the following:  the correct artist and song, an incorrect artist and song, or an incorrect artist with the entire compilation album showing up.  Is this a bug in the new iOS 7, or am I doing something wrong?  Anyone else with this problem?  Any advice?

I have the same problem and I have been really trying hard to find a solution.  No success.
My main problem is this:  For example:  Top Gun soundtrack - I look at Kenny Loggins under artists and I see his albums and songs, plus the 2 songs from top gun.  Then when I look at Miami Sound Machine (also on top gun cd) under artist, I see correct albums from Miami sound machine, but under the top gun soundtrack, it shows the 2 kenny loggins songs instead.  then if I look at another artist from top gun cd, it continues to show the kenny loggins songs.  It doesn't matter which songs i look at, but the first one i start with will always show up on the others.  Funny thing is, if I click on the song, the correct song plays, it just says it is the kenny loggins song!!!  ha ha.   Been dealing with this for over a year now.  Pretty aggravating.   Happens whether I have compilations checked or unchecked on settings.   I have over 50 compilation albums and some are checked, some aren't...they all behave this way.
On Mac, itunes (v 12) it all shows up correctly and works fine.  I have become an expert on ID tags and am very thorough with my tagging.  HAND TAGGING, not some program that does it for you...they are never correct.  I match all my tag info with the info in the iTunes store for each album so it is sure to match.  Has taken a long, long, long time.
Love iTunes match, but this one issue is a real pain.  Anyone with any ideas, I'd love to hear them!  Thanks!

1, you can't at the moment, though with iOS 5 in the Autumn, from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :
Even organize your photos in albums — right on your device
2, by removing it from you synced from and re-syncing. Only photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad (either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view)
3, the location of the photos that you synced to the iPad should be listed on the iPad's Photos tab when connected to your computer's iTunes.
4, you can copy the photos from your iPad to your computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 . You should also be able to delete them from the iPad as part of the transfer process to your computer, and it's then your choice whether to add them to your sync photo list so as to copy them back to the iPad. Copying them to your computer would allow you to organise them into folders and therefore be able to sync them back into separate albums.
5, I don't use Dropbox either. There are some third-party browser apps in the iTunes App Store that allow you to download pages so that you can view them when offline e.g. Atomic Web (the whole page is saved within Atomic Web, it doesn't place a photo into the Photos app)
6, deleting content should help. If you remove an app from your iPad then you also remove the content that it's got on the iPad - so if you then decide to reinstall it back onto the iPad then you will need to manually add back any content that you want in it. None of the Apple built-in apps (including Photos) can be removed from the iPad

  • How can I re-sort my albums both chronologically and in track order?

    Hi all,
All of a sudden, the correct album track order on my iPod Classic has gone haywire!
I have many, many playlists, containing albums by all my favourite bands, arranged in chronological order. This means that I can start playing the Beatles (for instance) with "Please Please Me", and work my way through to "Let It Be:Naked", playing each album in its turn, with the track listing of each album in their original order.
Of course, I have to tell iTunes to sort "Album by Artist/Year" to achieve this end, and up until just recently, things have been fine. Most of my 250+ artist-dedicated playlists are sorted this way.
Now, all of a sudden, I find that the track order within these albums in iTunes are appearing in a completely random order. The only way I can get the correct track sequence back again is to re-sort the list by "Album" which re-arranges the albums alphabetically, but that does not list them chronologically....
I have tried re-sorting the chronologically dated and named albums by clicking the column header, and when it comes up with sorted by "Album by Artist / Year" (which is where it ONCE was all automatically sorted into correct sequence of track numbers) now, it comes up with all the album tracks in random order, within each album.. It sorts the albums into the correct chronological order, but the tracks within these albums are all messed up.
As I said earlier, if I choose to sort each playlist simply "By Album", then all the tracks on each album are in the correct order, so I KNOW that the correct ID Tag info is still there..
Until now, I have been able to pride myself on (usually) being able to manage the sometimes quirky moods of iTunes, which I have been using for over a decade - but I have never had this problem before.
Please also note that all my 23,000+ tracks have album dates, track numbers, artists, groupings, genres, play counts, and most also have cover images.
This week, I have downloaded and re-installed iTunes 10.6.3.25, but still no change.
Does anyone have any thoughts as to what I can do to get things back the way they were again?
    Many thanks,
    Rusty Shay

    Hello there,
    Hi there Chris CA,
    Many thanks for your reply.
I just tried using the column browser as you suggested, but it remains the same.
I can either have the albums by any one artist sorted alphabetically - with the tracks in the correct sequence....
Or I can have the albums sorted by year of release - with the tracks in random order....
    But not both!
The most curious thing is that all playlists are not affected. Probably three or four out of the 250+ are listed the way I want them all to be.
    It's driving me bloody crazy!

  • How do I stop iTunes from automatically sorting by Album Artist?  Driving me crazy.

How do I stop iTunes from automatically sorting by Album Artist?  Driving me crazy.
I listen to primarily classical music
All of my music was very deliberatley titled by composers "Last Name, First Name" as the artist.
iTunes is changing it to the Album Artist.  I have to go in and delete that information - AND THEN IT LATER REVERTS IT BACK!!!
Hours have been wasted and I am feeling so ticked.
    Any help?

    Purchased or ripped media?
If these are ripped mp3s then another possibility is multiple embedded tags. iTunes works best with a single ID3v2.3 tag. Some software creates both an ID3v1.0 and IDv2.x tag. With multiple tags it is not certain which iTunes reads or which it updates, and any device may choose differently. Once songs have the correct info. in iTunes you can use Convert ID3 Tags... None several times, then Convert ID3 Tags... v2.3. The process removes any embedded art but otherwise preserves the data that iTunes knows. You could use my script CreateFolderArt before and after to save and then restore the artwork.
In the long run you may be better off populating Album Artist properly with a copy of whatever is currently in Artist. My script CopyArtistToAlbumArtist can do this effectively.

  • In songs view, sort by 'album' alone stopped working

I normally prefer to view my songs in iTunes using the 'Songs' view, listing everything with the details shown. I'll usually set it to sort by 'Album'.
Clicking on the 'Album' header used to give me options that I could cycle through, but suddenly it is stuck on sorting only by 'Album by Artist', and I no longer have the option to simply sort by 'Album' alone.
I am unable to restore the ability to sort only by 'Album', have gone through all of the menu choices in how I view or sort my albums. Can anyone suggest a reason for this happening, and a way to fix it?
I have not made any changes to my system software or applications recently that would be obvious causes for this happening. All of my software is up-to-date.
    iMac (mid-2007); OSX 10.9.4, iTunes 11.3.1 (2)

I've tried re-installing my iTunes software and searched throughout the forums and elsewhere without so far being able to determine how to resolve this difficulty.
In case my original question formulation was not clear, in the past I could click on the header (while viewing my iTunes library in 'Songs' view) and cycle through "Album", "Album by Artist", in either ascending or descending order, and so forth.
Now I'm only able to chose between "Album by Artist", either ascending or descending. There is no "Album" view option available to me, as there has always been in the past.
I'm completely puzzled as to how this happened. Perhaps I inadvertently hit the wrong key combination while using iTunes and it changed something, I just don't know.
I would really appreciate it if any other forum members have suggestions as to how I might fix this!

  • How come we can no longer sort by album, only "Album Artist"?

Total BS. If you're listening to a soundtrack album with a ton of artist, you have to know the name of the first artist listed to find it in your library. They used to just have an "Album" sort field, now it is "Album Artist" and "Album by Artist", riddle me the difference because I can't just sort by album. Trying to find out info here is an insult too. If the iPod wasn't so great, I'd totally never come back to Apple. I'm in the market for a new phone and you just made an Android customer.

Nevermind, Apple gave me a link to a similar problem after creating this. Marked the album as a compiliaiton for anyone interested.
Not sure how to delete this so I'll just leave it up.

  • Sort order in iTunes (sort by album)

    Hi!
What could be the cause that iTunes in this case: http://homepage.mac.com/bhager/sortierung.png doesn't sort the tracks in correct order when sorting by album? In the other cases apparently it works fine.
    Thanks,
    Bensch

I had this problem when I was viewing the tracks in "Group by Artwork" mode. It would "duplicate" the album and the artwork for every change in Artist.
Here's a solution if you don't want to rename all the tracks with s single artist (if there is more than one):
    - Select all the tracks in the album
    - Click command + I
    - In the field "Album Artist" enter a single space (" ")
That's it. All the tracks will be grouped together.
    Enjoy!

  • How can you sort an album that was released in 2007 but has 80s music on

I have v8 of iTunes, almost completed all my tagging how I want it in iTunes for all my music
    I have a query though, I have a 80s, 90s smart playlist.
I have recently got an album that was released in 2007, so the year in my library is 2007, however all the music on that album is from the 80s.
So can you tag with 2 years, ie Album release date and song release (original date) or can you sort the album to show its songs from the 80s.
Someone must have the same issue, especially from compilation albums
    please help
    cheers

ahh, was hoping it may have had a "overall" year or album year release date.
Man that means I gotta tag a lot of my music with the correct year now then, as the compilation albums I got all tagged form web with year released
Whats the best way to get the year of the songs then please? is there an easy way? Ive got a lot of songs to do now
    cheers

  • Alphabetical sorting in album view broken in 3.4.0

Upon updating to Spotify 3.4.0, I noticed that alphabetical sorting of albums, by artist or title, no longer works correctly. Neither killing/restarting the app nor deleting/reinstalling it has any effect. This is on iOS 8.3.  This is when sorting by artist. Boris, Brian Eno, Burial, Busta Rhymes, then Beyonce, back to Burial, Beyonce, then Beastie Boys. It's a total mess. Sorting by album title is in slightly better shape, but articles really screw it up.  It takes everything that starts with "The" and sticks in in between the S's and T's. Well, almost everything:  Here we've got a few stragglers stuck between T and U. None of this makes any sense and it's a real pain. Apple Music comes out tomorrow, and I'm surprised that Spotify thought it was a good idea to roll out an update with a major issue like this right before a big competitor's launch.

This was my reply. It was done quickly but I think it gets the point across.

thank you Andrea for your reply,
That's a big shame if this change was intended. To have your Albums listed in a casual order and not Alphabetically seems a huge step back for the iOS version and all of its users. It makes that menu redundant in all honesty, especially if you have over 100 albums. Why change or take away a very important part of the experience that a lot of users want?
For instance, this morning I regrettably started my 3 month trial with Apple Music to see how this experience is. As much as I didn't want to, I felt like I should give it a try, since the main part of my experience with Spotify has changed/gone.
They list the Albums exactly like Spotify used to (before the last update). So in Artist Alphabetical order, with the Albums underneath in alphabetical order too. This means I can scroll through all of "My Music" in alphabetical order without realising some artists are at the top or bottom and mixed in with others.
For me, it makes no sense at all for Spotify to change this. It now looks a mess and the "Album" section to me, and others, is now useless. I now have to filter "Artists" and select that, to then select an album I want. This is not intuitive at all. As I said, it's a step backwards.
I hope the team look at this seriously, because it could possibly put users off the experience. I for one have defended the Spotify team on forums such as Reddit, who mostly put the team down for the huge problems on the desktop version recently, saying its a step backwards for most features. I now seem a bit bewildered why the team are also doing this for the iOS version.
I think you get my point anyway. To change something so important without explanation is madness. Your team need a lot more communication with it's users, or you could be losing quite a few of them to an alternative streaming service.
I hope this feedback helps. If you require any more information please let me know.

  • How do you sort by album name?

I have iTunes for Windows Vista, and I can sort music in my library by Name, Time, Artist, Genre, Rating, Play Count, and last played. However, there is no option to sort by album name. Shouldn't there be? Otherwise, how can I possibly find all the tracks of a compilation with various artists without going crazy?

Anyone have a solution to this yet?
In MUSIC, clicking on columns to add ALBUM name only adds ALBUM by ARTIST which does not give a way to see and sort for the entire LIBRARY.
Seems to be a lost ffeature in the new 9.0 version.

  • How do I sort the album order in my music window in itunes 11.

I am wondering how I can sort the album order in my main music section.  I have had to collect up tracks spread across several 'albums' into the 1 album they were.  The name is the same.  Now this album, 'The War of the Worlds', has 2 CDs.  One is now where it should be, the other is near the end of my albums.  How can i sort the order?
    TIA
    Chris

See Grouping tracks into albums. A big split in the postition can be caused by different Album Artist or Sort Album Artist, or one disc might be marked as a compilation while the other isn't.

  • In iTunes, is it possible to sort by albums, without all the songs listed below each album title?

It seems there was something in the recent iOS7 release that have made a few changes in the way itunes is viewed on the iPhone.  In the past I would sort by artist, which would then show all the albums. Now it shows all the albums, but with all the songs listed below each album title.  I have several artist with over 50 albums, I don't want to scroll through all of the songs.  I clocked it at 1.3 miles to scroll through all of them.  If I sort by album, it does not group by the artist, just the album title. Any possible way to get this view back?

No, I meant if you tap on the album title in the Artist viewso, does it collapse the song listing? Next, I asked if all the songs were not on the phone, like the ones you showed in the photo (with the cloud symbol). It appears that most of these songs are not really on your phone. What happens if you go to Settings>Music>Show All Music>Off as I mentioned in the last post. Here is a screen shot of my music app in Artist view.
This is a mix of songs purchased from iTunes and self-ripped CDs that I have in my collection.

  • Why doesn't sort by album artist sort by album artist?

I so far haven't found a straight answer for this, so I figured I'd just ask for myself.
I have more music than my phone can hold. So it can be hard to navigate a phone thats literally just music and vital systems, so I like using the horizontal view in the music player, where the album art is displayed in the grid. The only problem is that everything is just scattered about, seemingly sorted alphebetically. Before IOS7 it was sorted by artist, and it was far easier to navigate through my library, but now the option labelled as "Group By Album Artist" does absolutely nothing. I've changed that setting a million times, and yet still nothing changed.
Is my phone just stupid? (unlikely, since my last phone had the same issue) I'm incredibly meticulous about the song info, so I know that all of the proper information is included. (seemingly, at least.)
Is there something I'm missing? Or maybe some specific thing I can do to achieve the same effect?
I currently have an Iphone 5s, and I previously used a 4. Both have experienced the same problem.
(I also recently began to edit the sorting fields in itunes, and still nothing changed.)

    Hullabaleur wrote:
but now the option labelled as "Group By Album Artist" does absolutely nothing.
It groups them by Album Artist, instead of Artist.
Keep in mind that for most albums the Artist & Album Artist are the same so likely you won't see much of a difference. Most albums won't even have the Album Artist filled in.
When horizontal, they are sorted by Album name.

  • Sorting "My Songs" by date actually sorts by album name

When browsing "My Songs" in Spotify desktop fof Mac, clicking on the calendar icon in the column headings causes the playlist to be sorted by Album, not by date. See the attached screenshots -- notice that the dates are not sorted but that the album titles are, despite the sort order being imposed on the date column. This type of sorting seems to work fine in other playlists, though I'd argue that the sort order of the column is reversed from what is conventional. For instance, in the Mac OS X Finder, an up-pointing carat (^) sorts from oldest (top of the list) to newest (at the bottom). In Spotify, the up-pointing carat results in the opposite sort order.

    Does iTunes see the iPod?
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
If so have you done anything like update iTunes on the computer since it last successfully synced?
