Sorting the color swatch panel

Is it possible to sort the entries in the swatch panel so they are in alphabetical order? It seems to me to be an obvious thing to do and something that I would have thought that InDesign would have done itself.

The swatch palette is not part of the tool bar and the is no tool the open the swatch palette. Try using menu Window>Swatches

  • Color swatch panel in PSE 10

When I had Photoshop Elements 7 in the past  I could stretch the color swatch up, down and  sideways.  But after installing PSE 10, I discovered I could only pull and push the color swatch up and down - but not sideways.  I'm kind of  bummed about it and wonder if there is some way I can still stretch it sideways like I had in the past?   Any idea?
    Thanks so much.

No, vertical adjustments are the only ones.

  • Script to activate the Color Separations Panel?

I've Frankensteined together a script (javascript) using bits and pieces that I've found here that deletes unused swatches, deletes unused character/paragraph styles, and deletes unused text boxes.
As the final function, I want the script to activate the separatations panel preview (with only the black separation visible). I haven't been able to find any scripts that "activate" a panel for me to manipulate.
Any help would be much appreciated.
------ Additional information that you probably don't need to know but maybe you'll have some clever solution for my problem that I haven't thought of. ------
If any graphic or text has InDesign [Black] applied to it, it doesn't output to our negative printer. This obviously causes problems if a designer fails to apply a colored swatch to a graphic or text and then fails to check the separation preview for [Black] items.
I first thought that it'd be fine just to have the script notify the designer if any items in the job had InDesign [Black] applied... but there are two layers on every one of our jobs that use InDesign [Black]... so the "alert" script would have to omit those two layers when searching for instances of InDesign [Black]... and this all seemed much more complicated than just having a script activate the the Separations Panel with Black selected.)
Again, thank you for your help.

    well now..
first of all i think we found a bug in CS5 at least. Please (anyone) try to duplicate my problem:
    1) open the Find Object dialog
    2) In the Find Object Format select the Fill Color Black. (Click a few times on Find/Find Next just to be sure)
    3) open ESTK, link it to indesign, open the console and type:
    app.findObjectPreferences.fillColor.name
    i get:    Result: Yellow
    4) in the ESTK Console, type
    app.findObjectPreferences.fillColor='Black'
in the Find Object Format dialog, you will get: Fill: Color: (Unnamed Color) Click the Find Button, and "Nothing found"
    5) now for the fun part, in the ESTK Console type:
    app.findObjectPreferences.fillColor='Yellow'
in the Find Object Format dialog, you will get: Fill: Color: [Black]. Clicking on the Find Button you will get the (un)expected results.
a bit later, apparently is not a new bug: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2914093

  • Change the color swatch

I was wondering if there was any way that I could either
change the little color swatch next to my username or choose which
color swatch would be used? Could there be something added to the
My Kuler section that would allow me to choose what I wanted
instead of using the first color theme that I created.
    Thanks for the help.

Hello, yes, currently the color theme avatar is the first
theme you create. Others have requested the ability to change their
avatar, but the current workaround seems to be deleting that first
theme and then it changes... sometimes. Thanks for your patience.

  • PLEASE FIX the Color Swatches Window

I am infuriated, crazed, insanely angry, that I cannot resize this window.
This seemed like it was a problem through at least one iteration of Photoshop proper, and thankfully was either finally fixed, or I figured out how to use the interface differently.
You need to be able to make displays of your swatches look like this below for them to be of much use. The Photoshop Elements display above is unacceptable.
You might think that if you chose the larger size squares that the problem would go away? NOPE.
Of all the companies in the world to let something like this pass, Adobe should be at the bottom of the list. Please, please tell me I'm wrong, that I'm an idiot, and that there is a way to make this display properly.

OKAY. So, this is how to solve the problem yourself...
You can add your own swatch squares, rearrange them, and save your own swatch collections. I first chose white for blanks, then thought better of it and went for the same color as the blank space in the window pane. Works nice, huh.
If you'd like, you can download a zipped copy of the ACO file I made here: http://www.xsonn.com/pub/Default_small_ACO.zip.
On Windows 7, PSE10 likes to store presets in this folder:"C:\Users\{USER_NAME}\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\10.0\Presets\Color Swatches\"
But you can open the ACO filfe from anywhere.
NOTE: If you pick Load Swatches..., as illustrated in the menu below, PSE10 will add the new ACO to the existing Color Swatches window. In most cases, you will want to select to Replace Swatches....
If you just have a hankering to build your own, or you want to fix other swatch collections... The overall fix takes place in two steps. One, adding 'blanks' in the main UI. Then, after that you then have to move them around, but ONLY AFTER selecting Preset Manager... above. And then after leaving the preset manager, you can save your collection out. Easy... but not easy.
Don't get me wrong. I am still infuriated, crazed, and insanely angry that I cannot just resize this window. This is really just my own little way of proving it.
    Cheers!  =)`

  • Any file I open, along with the color swatches and sampler, in PS has a warm white color where it is supposed to be white. I don't now how this happened and I have no idea how to get the whites back. Please help, thanks, P

as I stated. the white in any file I open in PS s a warm white. I don't know how this happened or how to fix it. I do know it is not my PC or moniter. Only in PS. any hepl is appriciated, thanks, P

My5cats, Cris may have more to add but here are some thoughts.  A calibrated monitor does have warm whites.  We perceive a blue white as being correct but it isn't.   i don't know if you are using monitor calibration or not.   One possible area is that Photoshop is set to a paper or some other gamut.  You can check (in PS) by going to the Edit menu > Color settings.  Here is a picture of mine.  I set the working space to sRGB which is used for the web and many printers.  If you get a correct setting , consider saving it.

  • How do I sort the colors in the colors palette?

I'l like them to be in aphabetical order (or numerical order)
    tks

You can also select your swatches, then save swatches, then delete them, when you load your swatches (from the saved .ase file) they will be in order. Obviously you don't want to delete used swatches, so make a copy of your file and delete everything, then paste it back in from the original when your swatches are in order.

  • Color swatch strange behavior

    Hi,
I'm working on a AE 5.5 project and try to use the color swatch panel to put in a color RGB R:5 , G: 16 , B: 103 to create a blue color.
But what ever I try at the bottom of the panel appears a different color in HEX DEC and that's the color that stay's as the swatch color.
Must be a small adjustment in the preferences probably, but how do I get this panel working as in all  other Adobe programs?!
    What do I do wrong?!
    Thanks David

Thanks for that, but I don't think that's the problem.
Would it be possible that the color swatch panel has a different behavior when I work in 32 bits floatingpoint?!
Because I work on a project in 32 bits with 10bits footage.

  • How do you change the default swatches that appear when I open a new document?

When I open a new Illustrator CC file, I would like to have some of my favorite color swatches available in the color swatches panel.  How do I edit the swatches panel so they always appear on new documents?
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Paul,
You may add them to your Adobe Illustrator Startup_CMYK and/or Adobe Illustrator Startup_RGB files in your Plugins folder.
What happens if you DoubleClick those swatches and Tick Global?

  • Color Swatch Window constanly in the way.

I know how to resize the Color Swatch window, collapse it so no colors show, & I know how to close it altogether.
As long as it is open it is usually in the way of the .jpg image I'm working on in the center of the screen. I constantly have to move it out of the way.
On either side of my image there is plenty of room for it, if I could resize it to be taller & skinnier, but it doesn't let you do that. If I move it up high over the menu bars, it seems (I think) to move itself back down where it is in the way as I work.

Ward, I didn't know about the D key to reset foreground to black and background to white. Thanks for that.
Brian, at least I now know what the Palette Bin is. I checked it on the Window drop down menu.
No, I have not been using it. I guess I should check out all the other stuff that is over there to the right.
Anyhow I see if I Close (not collapse but close) the Color Swatches Window, instead of disappearing it will move to the Palette Bin if the Pallete Bin is showing (or perhaps even if the Bin is not showing).
Other than Window / Palette Bin is there a keyboard shortcut to hide or show the Palette Bin? I see I can change the horizontal size ot the Palette Bin with my mouse and as a result squeeze the Color Swatch Window & everything else to a narrow tall vertical work area.

  • Why does my new saved swatch not appear in the Swatches panel when I open a new document?? Thanks :)

I can create a new swatch and save it. It appears in the Swatches panel. But when I close (or save and close) the document, then open a new one/existing old one, my new swatch is no longer in the Swatches panel!?
I have tried finding the answer on forums/Adobe books etc but to no avail - it is driving me mad!!!
    Thanks

That's because a new file defaults to the "default template". You can save a file as a custom template, then open your template to use the custom swatches.
I'm not saying I like this. It's just the way it is.
Any file can be opened as a "swatch library", as well. If you've created files with custom swatches and want access to them, go to: Swatch panel flyout menu>Open Swatch Library>Other Library, then find the file containing the swatches. It will open as a "Library" and you can click swatches to add them to the current Swatch panel. You can also set the Library to be "Persistant" by going to "Library Panel flyout menu>Persistant". Then that Library will open anytime you open Illustrator.

  • Selecting colors via the toolbar swatches

In coloring an object using the toolbar fill palette, I'd like to simply be able to double click on the color swatch in the toolbar, rather than click on the swatch and mouse down to the color and click again with the eyedropper.
What's happening is that the color swatch in the toolbar contains a variety of colors around the one that it nominally represents. e.g. If the swatch is ff0000, double clicking on the swatch is likely to color the selected object anywhere from f30000 to fe0000 depending on precisely where in the swatch you double click.
Is there any solution for this behavior?

    Finally figured this out.
The solution is very simple once I realized the cause of the problem - Mac OS drop shadows. The shadow around the pallet window that comes up distorts the color available in the selection box. So I downloaded ShadowKiller and problem solved!
Maybe this will help someone else out. I can't be the only person who has to occasionally change colors on a multitude of objects quickly; it really helps to be able to simply double click the box!

  • Does CS5 Improve Typography and Color Swatches?

Hi, we are web developers creating mostly dynamic CMS based websites. We have been using Illustrator for designing our layout comps to send to the client for approval and drive the template design process. We only generate the actual graphics needed for the site from these files, we don't try to convert our comps into actual code (we just match the look with our templates using PHP & CSS).
But Illustrator has always been one of our most frustrating programs to use. It just has a tendency to be buggy (you have to nudge your slices down 1 pixel to export properly), or just plain counter-intuitive. And we have been using it for MANY years (we also do print and environmental graphics).
But when I've experimented with Fireworks to see if it would be a better solution (it SHOULD be), there were always a couple glaring features missing that would make it hard to use. The last one I tried was a demo of CS4.
    TYPOGRAPHY
    - Does Fireworks finally use the same type engine as Illustrator and Indesign?
    - Does it support styles so you can apply certain type styling, say to headlines, and have them be globally editable?
It's such a drag to have to manually update the text formatting in 20 different places when you want to try a larger font size or something for your headings. We then use these styles as a basis for our main CSS styles.
    COLOR
    - Does Fireworks finally use the color swatches feature of Illustrator and InDesign?
    - Can you create global swatches with (heaven forbid) some sort of name that makes sense (like the hex/rgb value) and have all objects with those colors be updatable by editing the swatch?
I can't understand how people could actually use those tiny little swatches with no indication of what actual color each was.
THANKS! If these two areas have been addressed, Fireworks might actually be a viable option for creating comps over Illustrator as it should be.

Fireworks has been using the same Text Engine as Illustrator since CS4.
It doesn't create styles the same way one would with MSWord or probably Indesign. It's a graphics app primarily. That said, you can create graphic styles which - when using the redefine styles tool -  you can update any text in the same page that has the same style applied.
Fireworks now supports ASE files. They can be imported as a swatch set and you can also generate ASE files from Fireworks.
FW has had the ability to find and replace color values in text and vectors for many versions, but not from the Swatch panel. You cannot name individual swatches in the Swatches panel, but in the color fill panel you can see the hex value of a selected object and even copy the value to the clipboard.
