Sorting TV shows by Episode number instead of alphabetically.

I have an 80GB classic. I have loaded 3 seasons of the office onto it, and each season is seperated, which is great, but inside of each season the episodes are sorted aphabetically and not in order of the episodes. After I uploaded them I went into the info section and set the season and episode number for each one. Any help would be appreciated.

I am having the same exact problem after a recent iTunes update (10.5.x). My episodes used to be sorted by episode #, but all of a sudden they were sorting by episode ID.
No problem, I went through and changed the episode ID to match episode #.
This fixed about 75% of my shows, mostly those I ripped from DVD's myself.
What is still screwed up is my iTunes store purchased shows. I have tried every sorting tab and tag combination I can think of, and they still remain firmly sorted by some unknown factor (it is NOT episode id, # or release date or alphabetically by name even).
The shows appear sorted perfectly in iTunes. It is only on my iPod classic 120GB that this is showing up. I have also tried removing and reloading the problem shows on my iPod.
I am thinking of resetting my iPod to factory then reloading my entire library, but what a pain...
Apple please fix this!!!

How do you sort photo albums in date order instead of alphabetic order?

My photo albums used to be date sorted but after selecting Sort albums, they are now in alphabetic order. How do I undo that, please?

I am sorry that I ran afoul of the user guidelines, I'll remove the rant if I can. I certainly did not intend my gripe to target the helpful responder. And yes, I did provide the feedback to Apple. I'm just used to such feedback going into a "black hole". Which this almost certainly does because this problem has existed for years (I Googled for an answer first.) However, it should be noted that company's tend to respond to feedback that is very public if they want to keep a good name in the business. The private feedback through the program is like a quiet whisper, only the two parties involved know about it, so there is no real incentive for prompt action.

Sorting TV Show Episodes

When viewing a specific TV show's episodes in ITunes, they are sorted by episode number. However, FR insists on sorting episodes alphabetically. Is there a way to get FR to sort by episode number instead?

Solved my own problem. After posting my question, I browsed through the "more like this" suggestions. It seems my iPod is now sorting by Episode ID on the Video info tab. And even though all of my tv episodes were purchased through iTunes, not all of the episode ids were correct. Or even the same. Some were just 1, 2, 3, etc. Others were 1, 2, 103, S1E4, S1E5, 106, 7, etc. And some were just wrong, identifiying episode 3 of season 1 with the episode id of 104. So I've corrected 2 seasons, synced them, and they synced in the correct order.

Viewing Episode number in iTunes

I have just added a couple of TV show episodes to iTunes and in the Get Info box I can type in the season and episode number, but I can't get iTunes to show the episode number, only the season number. Is there a way to get it to do this?

When you put the season and episode numbers into the Video tab, its just for iTunes's sorting system. For it to show up in the list so you can read it, you need to put the episode number in the "Track Number" field in the Info tab, and the season number after the title in "Album."
If you've bought any TV shows from the iTunes Store, do "Get Info" on them to see the pattern, and then put the info into your new shows along those lines.

All my episodes on my ipod touch are out of order, they are in alphabetical instead of episode number. Its really annoying. How do you fix it?

After i upgraded to iOS 6 my ipod touch has been putting all my tv shows episodes in alphabetical order instead of episode number order. I have tried a few things to put it back to normal but they just wont go back into the right order. Its really annoying if i am starting to watch something and then want to go onto the next ep on my ipod and its really annoying having to go through around 20 eps to find the next one.. Its the same on my brothers ipad. Except they dont have the episode numbers on them at all. If anyone has a solution on how to fix this it would be great. I might end up going to apple and asking myself when i get my ipad to show them excatly. If its a bug in the iOS it really needs to be fixed.

I had this problem too, I fixed it by going to my settings and under general at the bottom there is a reset option, go there. One of the options should be reset network settings, select that one. I’m not sure why it happens but that worked for me; hope you have the same luck!

IOS 5.0.1 messages show phone number instead of names

after the iOS 5.0.1 update, all my incoming and outgoing messages show phone number instead of names even though i have them in my contacts.
i tried deleting previous messages, and restarting a new outoging msg to a specific number but when i start a new msg, after i add the contact, and i send it, it'll show the number instead of the person from my contact.
anyone else having this issue and any possible solutions?
also the number show up as +1 (951) XXX - XXXX
+1 (area code) then the number.... instead of the name of the person in my contact.

i went to the apple store and the tech told me the following:
make sure you backup your photos, contacts, etc.
the problem she said is due to a corrupt file for some iphones4s.
1) sync your iphone with itunes
2) do a restore and restore with a "new phone" instead of from backup
3) your phone will be reset, but you'll have all your apps.
after doing all this, your contacts and message should sync up.

Is it possible to sort by Episode number? Strange that it's a field in the Video tab under Get Info, but I cannot sort by it.

Script to rename tv show with season and episode number

Hi all,
I am working on a script to rename all the files of a tv show contain into a single folder - keeping season & episodes numbers.
I am using zenity to get the correct name of the tv show (mainly to add capital letters, and remove the dots - and also to be able to use the script for different tv show)
then again using zenity to select which folder contain the files, and then I want zenity to display how the rename will do as a verification and if happy then process.
The script work great but I can get zenity to display the output of the command and ask the question.
Any suggestion?

I finally got it!
Now the script work (tested with multiple files, different names) and the verification is to a singles files just to be sure not the mess up those episodes number.

The only way to see the contact name is for the information coming from Caller ID to match what is entered in the contact exactly. If it does not, then it would not display the name. Check to make sure what you are seeing when the number comes across that it is matching what you have in contacts. This includes the prefix as well.

You need to set up the accounts in System Preferences/Accounts, then activate Fast User Switching.
That way you can quickly log in to your own account - then back to his.
You should obviously have different passwords.

TV Shows by episode only?

Wonder why it is that we can no longer download entire seasons of many popular TV shows at a discount? I won't be paying $46 for a 23-episide season of anything!

Yes, I have this same problem. TV shows are in the correct order when viewing in iTunes. They also display in the correct order when I put the shows onto my iPad. However, when I stream shows over my network to my iPad using the Shared library, the shows sort alpahbetically by name instead of episode number.
Are there any fixes for this?

Sorting TV Shows By Sow Name

OK, this is driving me nuts. On my iPad TV shows are now sorted by season, inside that season sub folder all the episodes are a mess. All I want it to open the video app and click on TV Shows and see each show by name, click on that show and see all my episodes. Instead I open the Season 1 folder and there are all of the season 1 shows in there in no particular order. Hopefully there is a simple fix. I have tried renaming the shows, filling in season information, removing season information, using the sorting tab in Get Information to put the show name but nothing seems to work.
Basically I want my shows on my iPad to mimic the way my TV shows look on my iMac iTunes
Any help would be much appreciated as this is making me lose my ****.

Exact same thing here. It's worse when multiple shows have the same sseason as it mixes them up inside the season folder.

IPod Touch 64GB Model, (3.1.2), way to sort TV Shows by season?

Is there a way to sort the TV Shows by season after you go into the TV Show's name? As an example, on my iTouch I bought and got Futurama Seasons 1-5, when going to videos a huge list appears, but at the bottom the Show's name shows up, when I tap it, it brings up a list of all the episodes throughout Futurama, which is sorted by episode number, rather than season, then episode number. Is there a way to fix this, or will I have to wait for a future update for this to be fixed.

I'd love to see Apple bring back this feature. Apple vastly underestimates how many hours of video can fit in 64GB. With my encoding settings (which make use of the newer iPod's support for more advanced H.264 encoding settings, namely B-frames), I can fit about 250 hours of video on my iPod (if I got rid of my music and apps).
Hopefully Apple will do something about this. It's hard to find specific episodes when they don't sort by season. To make matters worse, because there's no Season grouping, the sorting order for episodes gets messed up. All episode 1's from the various seasons get put together, then the episode 2's, etc.
There are several other threads on these forums discussing this issue. I called Apple's tech support line, where I was assured that the issue would get fixed in future firmware. But, at the same time, it doesn't sound like the tech support guys really have a good way of communicating with the firmware developers, so I'm not holding my breath. In the meantime, I recommend going to Apple's feedback at www.apple.com/feedback/ and asking them to bring back this feature.
