Sorting within events and between events

I imported pictures from my external to my new imac running iLife 08; iPhoto created some albums which I still have to figure out as they have photos in them that I want removed or resorted.
a. Now, I wish to resort pictures within an iphoto imposed event. It used to be easy with albums and iphoto 6 but not so here.
b. How can I move photos from event to event or will iphoto simply move them back anyway because of the date?

I had my photos on an bootable external drive with a system and then I imported them to my new machine via iphoto 7 (8) probably with the import menu command. Do all my photo images in my iphoto app (on external HD) reside in pictures/iphoto library. If so, should I dump the photos from the new iphoto library and restart iphoto 7 with option key down and select the picture/iphoto library on the external thence reimporting the files; maybe then the original albums etc will arrive intact??

Custom sorting within "for-each-group:current-group"

Hi, I need some help in doing a custom sort within a "for-each-group:current-group". My formatting is in a table format but I'm not sure how to post a table here so I'm just arranging the column details out as it would look in a table. I have a column on the left for the YEAR and a second column on the right for the DESCR. Under the DESCR column I've inserted a nested table with four columns: SUBJECT, CATALOG_NBR, DESCR250 and GRADE.
COLUMN 1:

I'm able to sort by YEAR in the "for-each-group" on the left column. But I also want to do a custom sort on DESCR in the right column.
I've seen this blog on custom sorting by Vetriselvan: http://winrichman.blogspot.com/2009/09/custom-dynamic-sort-in-bi-publisher.html and I tried inserting this sort below after <?for-each-group:current-group();./DESCR?> but I get an error message.

The DESCR values are below and I'm trying to sort them in the following order.
STATUS
SUMMER SEMESTER
FIRST SEMESTER
AUTUMN SEMESTER
WINTER SEMESTER
SECOND SEMESTER
SPRING SEMESTER
Because I need them in the above order, I can't use ascending or descending, and instead need to use a custom sort order. Do you know how I can go about creating a custom sort order?

How do i sort events within events on iPhoto

I have a lot of events that have to do with one main event in iPhoto. I wanted to make one big event that I would click to then open all the specific event folders within it, is there any I can do this?

There is one drawback with huge events. I found that iPhoto and Aperture are a bit slower, if the event size is larger than about 1000 photos. Scrolling the event will take a long time, and smart albums based on that event will take longer to load, because iPhoto will have to search more photos. I prefer to use smart albums and keywords to group related photos and keep the events small - one shoot- one event. The added advantage is, that sorting the events by date will give meaningful results. If an event has photos from several years, the event date does not make much sense for sorting the events.

You can not -- neither automatically or manually - you should never be in the masters folder and there is never a need to be - iPhoto is a SQLite database and it's database structure is determined by it (and changes from time to time) - use the supported access methods (direct access to the photo files is not supported and never has been) - either using iPhoto or using the media browser in the lower left hand corner of every open/attach/iupload window
It is CRITICAL that you NEVER make any changes of any sort to the structure or content of the iPhoto library using the finder or any program other than iPhoto

Are sub events within events possible?

I briefly searched and did not find anyone asking the exact same question.
I am wondering if there is a way to make sub-events within events. I am not a fan of using the folders very much, and it seems like this should be possible in events, it fits the whole concept of "events"
For example:
Main Event: California Trip
SubEvent: Disneyland
SubEvent: Beach
SubEvent: Winery
Basically, I love using events, but I don't want an event with 500 pictures in it covering a whole week trip. On the other hand, things get extremely cluttered if you have 7 individual events on your main event page for one trip. I have 300 events, and lots of those are trips broken into 5-10 events.
If this is not possible, I sure hope someone in software development is thinking about it... : )

Yes it is possible to make folders within other folders. Select a Folder then go File -> New Folder or drag a folder to another one.

I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums exensively. I title the pics broadly.
I keyword on a
Who
What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 25k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
File -> New Smart Album
set it to 'All"
title contains Seattle
keyword is mountain
keyword is snow
rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
New Smart Album
Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
Keywording takes time to set up, there's no doubt about it. I use Keyword Manager as it's much more powerful than the inbuilt system, and adds the possibility of nested keywords. So, for instance, if I add John to a photo it also adds 'Family'. Now I can add many keywords to a pic quickly.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.

Moving photos within events

How do I MOVE photos within events?

You can't.
Events are automatic organisation based strictly on date and time. Manual sorting is not available. Put another way, Events are a very basic organisation for those who don't want to think about it.
Use Albums instead. They are much more flexible and include Manual Sorting. You can create an Album of an event simply by dragging the Event to the Album heading in the iPhoto Window. Albums simply reference photos in the Library and so involve no duplication - they take up no extra disk space.

Grouping photos within events

I want to group my photos within Events. So for example I want to create an Events sorted by year of activity and then within that Event group the photos by "sub Event" like "Holiday to Somewhere". So when I search I can find all photos from 2015 in one Event and then look for activities during the year.
I do not want to combine currently seperate Events by date into one as this is too large to work with.
I have looked at creating an Album named by year but again from what I can see this then ungroups photos and they appear in the Album as individual photos.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

That's exactly what Albums are for:
Create a folder called 2015
Create Albums from the various happenings during 2015, drag them to the folder.
Click on the folder: see all the images from 2015, click on the albums to see only the specific events.

Problems with iPhoto sort of events.

In PC talk, I often nest folders within folders to better differentiate my images. The lowest level of folder becomes an iPhoto event. After loading into iPhoto, a sort of events includes all events independent of the next layer of folders not the events in the first folder then the events in the second folder.
How can I get iPhoto to pay attention to this nesting of folders within folders?

Create "folders" via the File ➙ New Folder menu. Folders can contain other folders, albums, slideshows, books, cards, etc. Albums can only contain photos. Therefore you can generate something like this:

Smart Folder sorted by event titles

I have two smart albums which have very similar criterias. The only difference is that one includes pictures from overseas whereas the other doesn't.
However, viewing the two smart albums is a different experience altogether. The Overseas Smart Album doesn't sort the pictures in any way, whereas the other one sorts it by event title.
Both smart albums have the same preference for 'viewing': 'Sort by' is 'date, and the 'Event titles' can't be selected.
I would really like to view the smart album sorted by event titles. How do I do it? Why can I do it for one but not for the other?
Help appreciated! I have already tried lots of different options!

Depth sorting OSMF video and Android

Hi,
I've built a nice video app for Android, but...
If I start a video, switch out to browser, then return to my app then AIR / Flex depth sorting gets broken and the video that was behind my controls moves in front of it. This seems irrevocable so that evrn taking the video player off the stage and putting it back doesn't restore things.
Has anybody else come across this or have any workarounds?

Adobe, I just want to remind that this issue is still NOT FIXED in Adobe AIR SDK 3.5.0.1060 / Adobe AIR SDK 3.6.0.5920.
Even adding <containsVideo>true</containsVideo> to the application.xml has no effect.
I've encountered that using the old "Video" - Object won't make a change.

Sort within group

I have several groups within groups, and on my last grouping:
<?for-each-group:current-group();./TASK?>
I'd like to sort alphabetically by task, but can only seem to sort on the highest group I have:
<?for-each-group:G_DEPT;./DEPT?><?sort:DEPT;'ascending';data-type='text'?>.
Is it possible to sort on the current group task? I just get a dump when I try to add the sort tag after for each statement.
