I accidentally deleted my entire FAT32 partition ( ~80 Gigs ), i wanted to delete a mount point, but i forgot the partition wall still mounted ...
i used rm -R themountpoint as root
it's FAT32, and i didn't write anything to the partition since then, my data isn't lost is it ?
how can i recover it ? ( from linux if possible )
i remember very long ago there were tools to recover the lost files, but file by file .. is there a way to "undelete" the files of the partition ? without having to save the files one by one on another driver/partition ( with 80gigs of musics and videos it'd be soo long .. )
i have a also have a WinXP partition on my computer if the necessaray tools are only available on windows ...

  • I accidentally deleted my windows 8 partition.

    Hi.
As the title states, i accidentally deleted and reformatted the partition that windows 8 was installed on, on my EliteBook 8570p, and now the recovery tool states that it is unable to restore because of a said missing partition. I was wondering if there was any way i could restore or format back the partition in question.
    Many Thanks.

I guess i should state that this happened during a botched install of windows 7. Right now, i just want to see if i can restore windows 8 in it's original setting to this computer.

  • Does iPhoto not have safeguards against accidentally deleting an entire photo book, which is very easily done (when you think you are deleting just a photo)? No "are you sure you want to delete?". No way of copying your book before, or restoring it after?

Does iPhoto not have safeguards against accidentally deleting an entire photo book, which is very easily done with a single press of delete (and which can be done when you think you are deleting just a photo)? No "are you sure you want to delete?" before it happens? No way of copying your book while you are working on it (to make multiple versions of it, or just to have a safeguard copy), and no real way of restoring it after (since, remarkably, the photo books don't appear as items - items which could very easily be recovered otherwise)?

I get a dialog box when I try to delete a book.
And if you right click on the book in the left column you can duplicate it so you can have multiple versions.

Have you changed the options for Mail Box behaviour in the Mail prefereces? If the option "Store sent mail on server" is disabled, you will not see a "Sent" mailbox. Enable it again, if it is no longer checked. This has to be set for each account in the "Accounts" tab of the Mail Preferences panel.

  • HELP!  I saved a document.  Copied the document.  Went to delete some extra characters.  Accidentally deleted the entire document.  Now I can't find my document.  When I open the saved document, the page is blank.  Does Pages save copied text anywhere?

I saved a document.  Copied the document.  Went to delete some extra characters and accidentally deleted the text of the entire document.  I did not save a blank page.  I cannot recover the lost text.  Please Help.  I'm NEW to Pages.

    Hi Jan,
Copied text (or other copied material) is on the Clipboard, but only until you copy something else or log out of your account. If you act before doing another copy, you can paste the copied material back into the document. If you don't act right away, you may still have a path back.
One of the most useful keystroke combinations on the Mac is the "Oops! key," as a friend of mine once named it. That's command-Z, also known as "Undo". In some applications it will let you undo only a single step, but in others, including Pages, you can do repeated undos, so it's not quite so essential that you act immediately on making an error. Undo, done via the Oops! key, or via the Edit menu takes you back one change at a time. You can't skip any steps, so to get back to the state before the accidental deletion, you'll have to undo any work you've done since then. The memory of what to Undo disappears when you close the document or quit the application.
At that point you're at the mercy of your backup plan. If you've had Time Machine running, you'll be able to enter Time Machine and go back to an earlier, saved version of the file.
All these are in addition to the steps Ian suggested above.
    Regards,
    Barry
PS: Best piece of advice I can give a new Pages user (beyond Backup early and often) is to download and read through the first few chapters of the Pages '09 User Guide, available through the Help menu in Pages '09. Mostly pretty easy reading, and will get you through the basics without much trouble.

  • I accidentally deleted my entire music library and it's in the trash, how do I move it back?

I just deleted my entire music library and its in the trash, how do I move it back?

How did you delete it? Please provide more details to see what options you have available. Did you use iTunes by deleting the directory and confirming putting it in the trash or did you drag the actual  iTunes folder in the trash? If you dragged the folder the solution is easy, either right click on the folder and select Put Back or manually return the folder to the previous location.
Do you have a recent backup of the entire iTunes Music folder including the iTunes Library.itl file or just the iTunes Library.itl file?

  • Help! Accidentally deleted my Windows 8 partition. Can I recover it?

    Hi all,
    I have a bit of a problem.
While I was trying deleting/formatting a USB stick connected to my rMBP, I accidentally selected the windows partition on my HDD instead of the USB. I then preceded to rename and click "erase," just before realising what I'd done!
As you can imagine, I was pretty annoyed with myself, but I hoped that I was mistaken and booting into windows would would work as normal... This didn't happen. Is there anything I can do to get back to 'the old days' and recover my Windows instalation/partition?
Any help you can give will be greately appreciated.
    Thanks.

If you had sensitive data on that partition, then you'll have to make the decision of how much money it's worth to get it all back via recovery software or a recovery service like OnTrack.  If all that was on there was Windows 8 and some programs you can easily reload (i.e. your only cost is your time), then just reload it like you did originally through the BootCamp wizard.  If this is the case, consider it a learning experience and move on.  I once deleted the Microsoft User Data folder from my Documents folder thinking (What's this doing here...) lol.  You can imagine how surprised I was when I started Outlook and nothing was there.  I was like... SOB!

  • Hi, Please help. I accidentally deleted my entire Iphoto Library. I used Stellar Phoenix 4.1 and I do believe that I recovered all. I recovered to "My Passport" for Mac External HD. Files are all mixed up, best way to import back?

Hi, a couple days ago, I was orgainizing my Iphoto libray. Then, I thought that I was emptying my trash on Iphoto. (the ones I deleted when orgainizing) after hitting are you sure button, I realized that it was 209 files with 18,000+ photos. So I frantically stopped iphoto from "saving critical information" thinking If I left it open I could copy all my files over to (I beleive somewhere in finder under pictures?) I thought, but it most have been under the applications folder. Well this is where I really messed up. So after saving every file to that section, and everything was normal again on iphoto, I decided to make space and delete them from where I put them. So instead of selecting each file indivually, I used the select ALL button. Only to find that it deleted EVERYTHING. Iphoto (the file) was apparently at the bottom of the page along with Nikon Transfer, Lightroom 2 and god knows what else. That is when I found a data recovery software program (Stellar Phoenix 4.1mac) 17 hours later it found 159GB. I read enough to know that I HAD to go and buy an external HD. (even though I already own Time Capsule, but I never hooked it up ) was confused about if I could actually use that for this matter so, I just went and bought My Passport an external HD for Mac. Plugged it in, and recovered what looks like all my files (hopefully) did also read enough that I knew NOT to use my computer after this occured.
Now that you all know how I got into this mess, I would like to know the best way to import the files back? Ok I know this sounds easy, but all the files are scattered everywhere on the HD. Is there a way to put them back on my Mac Book Pro that would possibly put them in some kind of order? Date? Image file number? Anything? 18,000 photos to reorgainze is going to be brutal. I can reinstall Lightroom 2, if i can locate where I put the disk. And I also have CS5. Also wondering if the quality of the photo was affected?  I did get them back, so I am not complaining but any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Will be turning on Time Machine and hooking up Time Capsule as well. Should I also use my new HD along with capsule? Any advice on that matter would also be greatly appreciated as well!!!!!
    Thanks, Michelle

  • I accidentally deleted my entire iTunes library after updating my iTunes.  Is there any way that I can get these songs back?

After clicking on an update for iTunes, the only change I noticed was the addition of about 9000 sound bytes, which was ridiculous and wasteful.  I started to delete all the sound bytes, but that was going to be a huge chore.  Instead, I moved the songs I had in my library to a playlist called "backup library."  I then chose to "select all" under edit to highlight the rest of the 9000 soundbytes and delete these in one click.  At first, this seemed to work.  I still had the saved songs in my playlist, and the 9000 sound bytes went to the recycle bin.  I then emptied the recycle bin to get rid of the sound bytes.  When I checked iTunes again, there were no songs anywhere in the library or playlists.  Is there any thing you can do to help restore all of these songs (and none of the sound bytes) to my IPOD Classic?  Is my account saved with a back-up of everything I had saved in my iTunes library and playlists?
I have about 1500 songs in my IPOD Classic that are not affected by this error.  Is there a way that I can transfer all of these songs back into my iTunes library?
I would appreciate any help with this problem.

    Hello bigali,
Your options are kinda limited. I would use this first:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and ...
Then check here for the non-purchased items:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2452022
You want to rebuild the library first, then sync the ipod.
Here is a good idea for when your done:

    Hope this helps.

  • Is it possible to accidentally delete your entire foxfire/mozilla account?

I used to have foxfire on my mobile & now that I'm understanding browser's & what search engines are and it looks to me like Google has just taken over me without me understanding what I was getting myself into. I think Google just wants as many accounts as they can get because they're out there selling so much
advertising for us to buy from the advertisers. Help!

If you check your all programs list (wherever that is in the newer versions of Android), is Firefox still listed?
Mozilla doesn't provide an email service, just the browser, so if you aren't able to find your mail account, consider whether it is a different Gmail account, or Yahoo, Hotmail, or another webmail service.

  • Can't see backup library after accidentally deleting library

In trying to free up some hard drive space - it was almost empty - I accidentally deleted my entire iPhoto Library, emptying it from the trash. Thankfully I do back up to an external hard drive, and have moved the backed up library back to my Pictures folder. However, I cannot see the library in iPhoto, even when i Option-start the app and "Choose" that library. I only get 95 photos that i have imported since the accidental deletion and moved to that back up folder after re-copying it.
Any ideas why I can't see the Library in iPhoto even after choosing it? I'm not going to have to go through and import every photo am I? (I hope not as they are stored by year/month/day in hundreds of folders).
I would also like to know how to get this to work as I have ordered a new iMac today, and will want to choose the same Library on it too.
    Thanks.

    HI roger,
Navigate through the iPhoto Library folder and see if all your photos are in there. I just want to make sure that the backup library does indeed have your photos in there. If it does, and iPhoto still can't see your library, maybe a data file got messed up.
In that case, you can create a new library and import from the old very easily by following the next instructions below.
    Close iPhoto
Rename your messed up iPhoto Library to "iPhoto Library_old"
Drag this library to your desktop
Hold down the Option key and launch iPhoto
This is the window you will get
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library
Once this new empty library is open it is time to import the images from your old library
    Go to File>add to library
Navigate to the old library on your desktop and highlight it in the window, then click the "import" button.
iPhoto will start importing the images from your old library
    This is what to expect:
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
Once all you images have been imported, check through the library and make sure everything looks ok.
You can now start making your Albums, and do your keywords or any other organizational steps.
You can also delete the old library on the desktop.
It is also a good time to backup this new library to CD/DVD by burning the iPhoto LIbrary folder in the Finder, or copying the iPhoto Library folder to an external drive formatted for Macs, or copying the iPhoto LIbrary folder to an iPod.
    Good luck!

  • Accidentally deleted SMS on iPhone 6+

I accidentally deleted my entire conversation in iMessage, but still have it on my iPad.  Is there a way to transfer it back to my phone?
    Thanks,
    Tony

You'd have to restore from a backup made from a device that had the missing message thread.  Alternatively, you could forward the contents of the message thread to your own email for archiving.

  • Is there any way to retrieve accidentally deleted messages?  A whole conversation accidentally got deleted!

I accidentally deleted an entire conversation when just trying to delete a couple of messages!  Help!!!!  Is there any way to get it back without losing the messages Ive recieved and sent since my last backup?  Or do I have to restore my iphone from its last back up and lose all the other messages (it was last backed up yesterday

  • I accidentally deleted my recovery partition. Any way to get it back without taking it to the Genius bar?

Like I said... I accidentally deleted the recovery partiton while in Windows (bootcamp), thinking it was a partition on an external drive.
NOTE: Don't mess around with the system and drives when you are tired!
Now, is there wany way of etting it back without buying a utility for $99, or visitin the Genius bar? And If I have to take it to Apple, will it get wiped? With those two Q's asked, out of curiosity I tried booting with Command R and was able to get to the re-install option for Mountain Lion (but didn't actually do anything). With the Cmd R option and live download, do I really need the partition?
    Thanks.

Unless someone has come up with some third party utility, I fear you will have to at least reinstall the OS X partition. At worst, you may even need to redo the entire drive and hose the BC setup as well.
First try cloning the OS X partition onto an external drive, wipe and reinstall OS X, the migrate the stuff on the external clone back in (this recovers the apps, files and configs. Not the OS).
Command-R is working cause the Mac is pulling the Recovery boot code off Apple's servers. If you're stuck somewhere with no reasonably speedy Internet, you'd be stuck. Hence the convenience of having a local version of the thing.

  • I accidentally deleted my windows partition

I had created a 100GB partition for windows on my 500GB hard disk from BootCamp and accidentally deleted the windows partition and I've got that 100GB free that I cannot use anymore. The partition cannot be resized and that's it. Please suggest a way in which I can get rid of that free space and resize my hard disk without losing ant data.

    there are 2 options here,
    1) use bootcamp assistant to delete your failed partition and reinstall windows. or,
The OP has already deleted it, can't delete it again
    2) using disc utility open your hdd (use the original branded name, not the short name of the same drive)
select "partition" highlight your failed partition, click the minus button then click apply. this will give you your 100GB back. from here you will be able to start over with bootcamp again if you wish.
Once more, the partition is already deleted, how can it be deleted again?
